Wow, the service is HORRENDOUS here. Came in here for drinks and the restaurant was barely 1/4 full. It took a while to even get us seated and by the time we were seated, it took another 10 minutes till someone came to greet us and take the drink + dessert order. We watched as waitress after waitress walked by without any acknowledgement that we were there waiting to be served. Dessert arrived prior to drinks which really threw me off. When everyone in our party finally received their drinks, one was missing and it was a beer. Shouldn't that be the first drink to be ready??? So we had to wait another 5-10 minutes before the beer arrived. While the dessert was good, it was nothing to write home about. What I found also kind of off was the 'casual attire' of the staff. I'm fine with t-shirt and jeans casual wear, but the girl who brought out our dessert looked like she just walk out of a trailer park, strutting around in a bra exposing wifebeater. It was quite a turn off and I'd recommend there be some type of standard to the attire staff can wear while on duty. While we exited the place disappointed, I couldn't help but notice some staff drinking at the bar with friends. We went here for drinks last night and it was a good time! It definitely seemed to be more of a dinner place than a drinks place as everyone else was eating and it was more on the quieter side, but the drinks were tasty! Anywhere with hefeweizen on tap is A-OK in my book! And no one minded our loudness. Loved the interior, great decor. They were easily able to accomodate our group of 10 people at approximately 10:30pm. One person at the table did get food - the calamari - and loved it. So I would imagine the food is delicious. The kind of place you'd take a lady to impress with your Bellevue swagger...... or the kind of place work takes you and you run up one hell of a bill between fancy drinks and plates of fancy food. The food was beyond disappointing. The first time we came here, there was a 45 minute wait so we thought it had to be good. But it's not. If you're looking for a gastropub experience in Bellevue, come here! My girlfriend and I have consecutive birthdays so we came here to celebrate one weekend night. The service was prompt and polite and our server did not hesitate to offer us wine noobs a recommendation to go with the food we ordered. The food here is excellent. Had an early dinner here. The wilted kale and spinach salad with goat cheese and pancetta was really really good. Liked that it was not over dressed. Next I had the skirt steak cooked medium rare. It came with some cucumber, greens and radish. One of the most tender steaks I've had in years. Great selection of draft beers. Asked for a pilsner and it was delicious. We came here last night for our anniversary and everything was perfect. Possibly the only thing we had any sort of issue with was it was a little hard to tell who worked there since everyone is wearing casual street clothes. But once we figured it out it just added to the comfortable, relaxed atmosphere that this place is trying to convey. 21+ only was really nice for a romantic evening. Even though the place was packed, we got a table quickly enough after a short wait at the bar and our waiter was perfectly attentive without being overbearing. I had a peach blossom cocktail and loved that the bartender also gives you the shaker. You feel like you're actually getting your money's worth. We were quite hungry and tempted to order 5 dishes but our super helpful waiter suggested we start with 4. He was absolutely right. 4 was just right. The plates arrived very quickly. I was anticipating more of a wait but the kitchen was whipping them out at a breakneck pace. We ordered: 1/2 dozen oysters. My husband didn't care for the mignoinette but I thought it was perfect. I was craving oysters and these were so sweet and yummy. Bacon wrapped Scallops with Frizzled Kale. I loved this, possibly my favorite dish of the evening. The scallops were perfect and I could've easily eaten a plate of that kale on its own. Lamb Meatballs with Paneer. My husband's favorite. The meatballs were super tasty with a little harissa kick, the paneer was hot and flavorful plus there was a ton of fresh tzatziki and tabbouleh to cool things off. Wild Boar Ribs. Unbelievably tender. A little dry and while I enjoyed the intense smokiness while eating them, I was still tasting it hours later. As a first impression Black Bottle Postern makes a nice impression. The service is great. The staff is friendly. The ambience is trendy without being pretentious. They have a full bar with some wonderful local spirits. As a whiskey drinker I was more focused on those. I liked what I saw. I didn't look at the wine or beer list so I can't comment on either of those. As for food there's a nice collection of choices but not overwhelming. Everything is portioned to be shared. We ordered four dishes to share. Three of them I would order again. Unfortunately there is one that has potential to be delicious, however it does need a little help. The three dishes I would order again as well as recommend are, natural country hanger steak w/ daikon shiso, bacon lemon scallops, w/ frizzled kale (my favorite), and burrata w/ fresh figs vanilla walnuts shallots (the walnuts are candied perfection). All three were a tasteful delight! Unfortunately the one dish that we ordered that made an effort that didn't quite hit the flavor scale with the same zeal as the other dishes was the roasted artichoke crispy farro and garlic. The part I loved about this dish was the crispy farro, and garlic. I could have eaten a whole bowl of that alone. Sadly it was the artichoke that was the disappointment. Normally I love fresh atichokes and get excited when I see them on menus. This time something was missing.The fresh lemon was nice however it just wasn't enough flavor for me. It needs more flavor. Overall it was a delightful experience, and I would be happy to go back, highly recommended. It's a nice break from the way we've eaten at restaurants for the past decade. The food is served as it's made, which means little or no time under the heat lamps while you wait for the last thing you ordered. Tapas style means you get great tastes without having to spend $40 on an entree. That same 40 gets you 2-3 different plates. We tried a little of everything, and found that the meat dishes were great, the veggie dishes very good, and the flatbreads were just meh. I eat way too much bread, and I'm picky about it. This bread was just OK, but the toppings (pear/gorgonzola, one with prosciutto) were very good quality. It's loud, it's dark, and it's super freakin trendy, so leave your fanny pack at home. Leave the kids home too, since they aren't welcome here most of the time. Put on your best "I don't care about my personal appearance but secretly I'm obsessed with it" clothes so you will fit in. Passed by the location several times before I realized that Black Bottle was preparing to open. So they are still in soft opening mode. They plan to officially open this Saturday March 26th. Sooo exciting!!! Food We ordered the lamb meatballs (really good), butter lettuce salad (eh), pastrami bomber (yummy!), panna cotta (very good but more like a thick pudding), and the bread pudding (way too good... but dangerous). Service So far so good. They have an attentive hostess in front. Wait staff timed their visits well. Overall very good. Location The space is very big and the tables are well spaced. There is no "front door" so this place is really easy to miss. No sign outside yet... but I think that will change. Overall Looking forward to the hard opening. I've been going to both of Black Bottle locations since it open. Until last night, I've had enjoying going here. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the food. First, the scallops we ordered last night was something you expect at a chain restaurant. The size of the scallops were so small!!!! The 4.5 scallops we got were the size of a dime and the largest was maybe the size of a nickel. In addition, the scallops were over cooked and burnt. They shouldn't have serve it at all!! To add insult to injury, the flatbread dough was under cook. The only good thing about last night was the cocktail. If this is what to be expected at Black Bottle now, I would avoid going here at all cost. I hope this was a one time thing. read more

Black Bottle Bellevue had a slightly modern and casual environment with lounge music and dim lighting. The best about this place was the ambiance for a group drinking outing. The worst about this place was the service by a woman who acted like she didn't want to be there. Her attitude was so piss poor when we asked for recommendations on drinks and food. Her attendance was aloof. I asked for my drink without a certain ingredient, but of course they plopped it right in. The waitress's awkwardness and attitude left a bad taste. The food was bar food quality OK and no one in our 8+ group was impressed. The deep fried "Yuzu" popcorn chicken bites were the best. The "Shishito peppers" were over salted and bland. The Smoked Duck was OK for bar food standards. This bar is decent to stop by for a few drinks if you're already in the area, but don't go for the boring food or pissy waitress. read more

My coworker and I headed to Black Bottle at 5:15 p.m. The host told us it would be 45 minutes for a table despite there being multiple open tables. He told us everyone had just sat down, but we could sit at the bar. The food is all prepared and immediately served vs. timed meals so I didn't understand why it would matter. We were hungry so we sat at the bar. We each ordered drinks and one plate to start. I went with the Spanish olives off the happy hour menu and my coworker got the Dungeness artichoke dip. Both came out promptly and were delicious! I was completely surprised by how delicious the olives were. They were breaded and stuffed with cheese. The dipping sauce was good, but not great. The dip was great and paired well with the points it was served on. Our second plates were the prosciutto and bechamel flat bread and the ahi tacos. Both were excellent. We were not disappointed, and for two speciality plates and two drinks the price was reasonable. I'm back for work in April and will stop in again. read more

The food was good, albeit on the salty side. The service was noteworthy... for being SO BAD! We were seated at tables by the short end of the bar when there were about 10 empty tables in the middle of the restaurant. We should have asked for a different table straight away since my friends and I have had a blah experience seated in this area before. On this visit, the tables not only unwiped and sticky with gobs of food, but they were next to an extremely rowdy group who had zero knowledge about respecting others' personal space and eventually made their way to be literally butts-to-tables with us. Our drinks went unrefilled, we didn't get refills on our water, we weren't made aware that the duck breast dish took much longer to prepare, we were all but forgotten by our server and we had to wait over half an hour just to pay. So service was minimal to zero. This wasn't the first time we've had a sub-par service experience at Black Bottle Postern, so we won't be coming back, given the many other options Bellevue has now. read more

I wish I could give Black Bottle more than 5 stars. I told my friends as we were about to leave that I thought I was in a coma because restaurants that perfect only exist in dreams. Let me list just a few of its merits: All the food is either dishes you've never eaten before or better versions of ones you have, such as the pear Gorgonzola flatbread. We ordered a salad that the waiter recommended, and my friend said it was the best salad she'd ever eaten. We got top-notch service and no wait time for drinks even though the restaurant was packed. When my table got into a clearly private conversation, our normally attentive waiter stayed away. The menu is so easy to navigate. Its sections are "meat", "seafood", "veggies" and "sweets". The atmosphere is great. For example, the music is mostly songs from about 2002-2006 and it's the perfect volume. A couple tips: Make a reservation. We had to wait 20 minutes for a three-person table at 6:30 on a Thursday, and the restaurant was full almost until we left at 10. The Bellevue location validates parking, though I'm not sure where. I don't know if the Belltown location does. If I had to pick one downside, I was disappointed with my wine experience. I asked the waiter to recommend a white wine to pair with my food, he admitted he didn't know much about white wine, and what I ordered didn't taste that great solo or with my food. I guess when you're ordering a hodgepodge of shared dishes, it's best to drink beer or a cocktail. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but it just didn't hit the mark. The waiter asked if we had any questions, and when I mentioned a food allergy and asked for suggestions he disappeared to find a special menu. He then returned a good 15 minutes later and asked if we had any questions. When I reminded him of the previous conversation he scurried off again to get the menu. Initially I was impressed with the concept of a special allergy/diet menu. It broke items up into dairy free, gluten free, nut free, vegan, etc. This would perhaps have been less necessary if the menu provided any kind of meaningful description of the dish or if the servers would discuss the menu rather than pulling out the special menu and pointing to it as a crutch. It also didn't give the option of omitting a sauce to make a dish diary-free. Based on the special menu, we choose to get the tuna sashimi, pulled pork tacos and the lamb meatballs plus a beer and the white sangria. All the food was fine, but uninspired. Like the tacos seemed to be lacking a sauce and the tuna needed toast points to really compliment it. The meatballs themselves were good and my dining companion enjoyed the grilled paneer, but we both found the portions tiny for the prices. $10 for 3 small meatballs was a bit much. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants not only on the Eastside but even in the Puget Sound. It's a great ambience. Very cool, place, dare I say it, very un-Bellevue. It's got some great items on the menu. One of my favorite items is best in Bellevue, yes better than Seattle. Not a bad selection of wines too. Some of my favorite dishes are: 1) The Duck Breast 2) Pork Belly and Kimchee 3) Hanger Steak 4) Deviled Eggs 5) Mango, Mint and Tofu Salad 6) Pear Flatbread I'd pass on the fried chicken. We were out at a Jewelry show and needed some Chow! My husband had been here for a company event and loved it, so hey why not, lets try it! A few positives... It has its own parking underground and they validate. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were so great! They were funny, talked with us, helped us right away. The people were so nice it was almost like we weren't in WA state at all. :) The lighting is soft and low, the floors are this old rustic wood, which is pretty cool. There is lots of glass and stainless and candles. Its like a big open loft that you would expect in NY. I really loved the atmosphere. The food menu was unique, they even had FRIED Spanish olives stuffed with cheese. OMG does it get much better!? Full bar, great wine selection, unique cocktails. Happy hour prices were good. Lots of small plates and large food portions as well. This would be a great place for a casual meal, a romantic trendy dinner or just to hop up to the bar and have a drink and a quick bite. It doesn't have a Television in the place which I LOVE! I think people like this idea of being able to actually socialize without a lot of distractions. I didn't really see a lot of people on their phones either which was really nice! I hear this is wear all the single ladies in the area sit and scope out the single, hot, rich men.. I guess we will see. LOL Cons.. The place is really loud! And this was just on a Thursday nite. Its a big open space with lots of wood and glass so its a bit busy sounding.. But we really enjoyed it. Such terrible service. I made reservations for 445pm on a Thursday afternoon with 4 other coworkers. After ordering drinks and food, the waitress told us that they had a "mix up with the reservations and there was a party for our table at 6pm." She was like, "But you have like 20 minutes left, but just so you know." This was at 5:42pm. Ok, I get it. If we were walk ins, and they were packed...I would have clearly understood. We made reservations a week in advance and we had only been there barely an hour and they had a mix up with reservations for our exact table? We looked around and there were plenty of tables open. The waitress didn't even offer to move us to another spot, or better yet move the party that hadn't arrived yet to another table. I had to walk over and ask if we could be moved to another table, so we could continue our dinner. It was absolutely disappointing they way they treated our party. We were moved to the very back booth of the restaurant. As we were leaving at 643pm, the table we were at originally had a party of 5 there, but the table immediately next to it was completely empty. I just don't get it. Waitress was rude, inconsiderate and had no remorse for the service we received. Such a disgusting experience. Our first time out since Covid and this is what we experienced. We will never dine here again. If you want a nice evening out, do yourself a favor and pick a different establishment. read more

This was my second time dining at Black Bottle Postern. And I must admit, my first experience was terrible - service related, not food - so I was a bit leery about going back. I met up with some girl friends for Happy Hour. The only food available on the Happy Hour menu are three choices of pizza-by-the-slice. Which is a bit of a bummer. But the regular menu is pretty varied with lots of tasty-looking options, so we ended up ordering off the regular menu. Also, this time around the service was fantastic. I can't recall her name, but she was very knowledgeable about both food and drink options. She had great recommendations and were pleased we took her up on her suggestions. We ordered "family style" and shared entrees so we could sample more food. Ahi Tuna sashimi was really good. It's not a cubed version like you often see. Thinly sliced with a shoyu-based (soy) sauce. Penn cove manila clams sake garlic shiso was delish! I love the sauce! It comes with french bread to soak up all that yummy sauce. The grilled halloumi cheese with date pepper mushroom sauté... if you're a cheese lover, you must try this. Kinda like a small cheese "pancake." The flavor of the cheese with the sauteed veggies and the sweetness of the date paired nicely. I'm happy to say that my second visit has redeemed Black Bottle in my mind and I will be back again! read more

I came here for happy hour on a Tuesday and overall enjoyed my foodie experience. Parking is validated for 3 hours in the Avalon apartment parking garage = awesome! (btw, the restaurant, from the outside, appears to be in the lobby of the apartment complex). Modern industrustial chic interior = love it! Comfy booth seating with a tiny lamp on the table = check! Now onto the most important parts of the review: food + service The happy hour menu seems limited to pizza by the slice for food and beer, wine and well drinks. But...it's all gravy, baby! Their regular menu is so fairly priced that you don't need to wait until the happy hour time slot to eat here! First mistake the server made: told me that a beer was featured on the happy hour menu so I ordered it, then he came back to tell me that the beer wasn't but I could still order it for the regular menu price. To which I said no thanks, and ordered a vodka + grapefruit juice. What should he have done? Offered me that beer for the happy hour menu. Second mistake the server made: gave my friend a glass of sangiovese which had gone bad! Some other happy hour diners also noticed that the wine had a strange odor and taste to it. But all was well when the server replaced her glass with a sangiovese, poured from a new bottle, as well as for a few other patrons who had selected the red wine happy hour special. Onto the food. Everything is shareable and all 4 items the 3 of us shared we magnificent! I'll start in order from my favorite: 1. bread pudding with a whiskey sauce - heck yeah! Warm bread pudding oozing with flavor and soft on the inside. 2. blasted broccoli - the best broccoli I've ever had. My theory is that it's blasted with butters, oils, and salts :) 3. prosciutto and bechamel sauce flatbread pizza - there was a sorry-looking tiny strip of prosciutto on each slice but the delish crust and bechamel sauce compensated for it 4. pulled pork tacos - there were 3, so each of us got to enjoy one, and it was quite enjoyeable Service overall was hit or miss but we got what we needed and weren't pressured to leave after we finished eating, so we ended up staying for close to 3 hours uninterrupted. The Honey and I decided to try this place for a date night last night. We are foodies and cocktail fans so were intrigued by the menu. We had Jenna as our server and she was AMAZEBALLS. Friendly, personable yet professional. She offered us great recommendations and even double checked with the bartender when the Honey wanted to know what Rye was used in their Throwback Manhattan. We had: Throwback Manhattan: Delightful! Flor de Tequila: This was my drink and it was refreshing and lovely. Both drinks were beautifully presented. Food: Spanish Fried Olives: I loved this but it wasn't to the Honey's taste. That was fine more for me. Who says no to salty, warm fried olives? Not me. House Smoked Boar ribs: falling off the bone. Served dry and tasting of alder smoke these were perfect needing no sauce or anything to mar the spicing and quality of the meat. Pork Belly and Kimchi: The pork belly was unctuous and fatty and the kimchi bits in between on the kabobs were just bright and acidic enough for a counterpoint. Seven Spice Shrimp: Spicy. The Honey was of the opinion that they were over spiced just a tad. I could still taste the shrimp on my pieces and we both loved the fact that the give you the heads. Salt and Pepper Squid: Not rubbery. Perfectly cooked and spiced with chili flakes on them as well. I would eat this over any of the garden variety boring "calamari with x flavor aoili" that every other place serves. Roasted Artichoke Salad: Who knew that a salad could blow your mind? We both absolutely adored this. The Honey, being a former Chef, asked about the dressing and recipe and it turns out that they marinate some ingredients and then toss the salad in a different vinaigrette and serve it with a curry yogurt dressing. Long story short lot of time put in to this dish. Cacao Nib torte: Delicious. NOT too sweet, though you can sweeten it up if you take a bite with the whipped cream. Perfect. TL:DR Great service, great atmosphere, great food. We can't remember the last time we dined out and didn't have a single miss all evening. Black Bottle... You killed every last bit of excitement in me for those pulled pork tacos... Pandora is a great asset to any business, especially restaurants... BUT... When you're blasting "90's Alternative Rock Hits" on a lazy Tuesday afternoon... It is just a bit of a mood killer. I just wanted to get out of there before hearing the next horrendous song that was subjected to be played throughout this potentially hip Bellevue hot spot. It was happy hour and my better half and I got a glass of the house red. We discussed our house red together as we sipped. Neither one of us impressed. But hey, it's a house wine, during happy hour. What can you really expect? The thing that really bugged me was when we paid the bill and were ready to head out and my sweetie had a fourth of his glass of house red left. Of course, being a proper lady, I told him I would contribute to the cause of not wasting wine and drank from his glass. When the wine touched my lips, I noticed an immediate difference. It had become apparent that I had received a glass from an open bottle of wine that was open for quite some time! You would think that if there was only a glass left of house wine, that there would be a better use for it. Cooking perhaps? Why give one person a glass of hosue wine from a freshly opened bottle and their partner a glass from the bottle that was used the day before? I must say, Black Bottle had a great location and also had alot of potential. I feel that they can give their customers an exceptional experience with only minor changes. They had great concepts but the execution was weak. Did I mention the music? A second chance will be attempted at a later date, but I wont be craving any "blasted broccoli" anytime soon. read more

Black Bottle doesn't really know what it wants to be. It looks upscale but it's actually pretty casual and the service is mediocre. It tries to be hip but the lights are just dim. It tries to appeal to a broad range of tastes with an array of small plates and manages to be not very good at any of them. I had flavorless Chole Bature, overcooked fish tacos and incredibly basic scallops on a bed of kale. The menu uses cheese as a crutch throughout and it's hard to choose a complementary set of small plates because it's all over the place. I have come here twice with coworkers on business travel and the value it does have is that it appeals to broad range of tastes and is great for groups. So if you're looking for a dolled up Applebee's where everyone will find something interesting to them come here, otherwise avoid this overpriced, underthought yuppie trap. read more

I got the vibes of a Capital Hill style restaurant put into Bellevue. Good experience, different menu items than traditional restaurants. Parking is around, just look for it. Big open area with neat decorations. Two grown men we had 5 shareable plates and probably could have had about 3 more. Definitely a light snack type place - or we are just fatties :) Each had one drink and walked out with about $140 bill with tip and not completely full. I went here with a friend while attending a conference in Bellevue. It was conveniently near my hotel and I do love a good tapas place. So, this is a brand new restaurant, and it felt like it. Once seated, we waited a good fifteen minutes for a waiter to show up. It was loud, a little young and flashy for my tastes, and just not as cool or classy as I like my tapas/wine bars to be. (But that's just me). The wine: delish. I highly, highly recommend the by-the-glass malbec they have--the Hudson Shaw Malbec (2008). Deadly delicious. The service: very nice, once they showed. Discombobulated, as the place had just opened. I suspect this will mellow out within a month or two. The food: We ordered several dishes to share. They were: the bulgar wheat harissa lamb meatballs & paneer, crispy fried chicken with ginger soy dipping sauce, bacon lemon scallops and frizzled kale, butter lettuce pomegranate goat cheese salad, prosciutto potato wheels. I highly, highly recommend the lamb meatballs. Incredibly delicious. Beyond that, though, I found some of the food too fatty for my taste (the potato wheels and the scallops), and some just underwhelming (the salad and the chicken). Would I go here again? Probably not. Because I know that when I go out to eat tapas, I'm going to spend a considerable amount of money. So I'm fairly choosey about where I go. But would I recommend it to others? Black Bottle was super busy when we arrived on a Saturday night, and the host told us 30 min, which of course translates to an hour. Thankfully, the food didn't take long to come out. We ordered the pork belly with kimchi, fried chicken, salt and pepper squid, prosciutto and bechamel flatbread, blasted broccoli, and the sirloin with mushrooms. My friend thought the chicken tasted like they came from a box, but they were still pretty good nonetheless. The ginger soy dipping sauce was great and tasted just as good with the squid. The mushrooms with the steak were way too salty, and the pork belly with kimchi was basically just brushed with sweet chilli sauce. The best dish of the night was the blasted broccoli. At first we were skeptical cuz it was just a heaping plate of broccoli, but it turned out to be our favourite dish of the night. read more

I had dinner with a group of 9 on our lovely friend's birthday. It was 8 on Monday night, so we were seated right away upon arrival. It looked sleek and cozy inside, and our server was courteous and efficient. Black Bottle is the kind of place you need to go with a bigger group of people because everything on the menu is meant to be shared. I am not a huge drinker, but I enjoyed sharing a pitcher of spiced sangria. We ordered multiples of the following: - bulgar wheat harissa lamb meatballs & paneer - seven spice shrimp - chola batura eggplant potato chickpeas - some kind of flat bread with arugula and tomatoes I actually did not get to try the flat bread, but everything else tasted wonderful. I really enjoyed the paneer, which was well seasoned. I also loved how the seven spice shrimp came with the deep-fried head. It was spicy and crunchy. Chola batura was a bit greasy, which was perfect with the slightly sweet vegetable stew and hot pepper on the side. Our birthday girl got cacao nib mousse tort & chili pistachio brittle for dessert. The mousse was sweet and creamy, but the crunchy chili pistachio brittle had a nice kick in the end, which I found pretty addictive. Thank you Black Bottle Postern!
