There used to be a Black Eyed Peas restaurant in Phoenix, and it seems like many people don't grasp that its focus is on traditional American cuisine. This style is fundamental, embodying the essence of what American food originally was - substantial, corn-fed, quintessentially American dishes. It's all about generous portions of homemade, wholesome, and straightforward fare, not about being fancy or overly intricate. Unfortunately, in Arvada, people don't seem to appreciate how great this restaurant concept is. Moreover, the owners of Black Eyed Peas might not fully understand the challenge they face in conveying their concept to food enthusiasts. Once these foodies experience it, the concept becomes clear and speaks for itself. This place probably is a little back dated and the bathrooms do have a slight smell. But the bathrooms are clean and the restaurant itself is maintained. I love this restaurant. It would be my go to place.

First time in this place. Right away from the door we were greeted by a very nice hostess. Our waitress was also really nice, patient and kind. We were family of 3 adults. We ordered Shepherds Pie, Irish Pie and Reuben Sandwich. All dishes were very delicious. The meet in Reuben was incredibly good -- cooked at the restaurant. Definitely great place for lunch or dinner. Loved dinner rolls.

Huge shout out to John at Black Eyed Pea!! He hooked us up, AGAIN! I've had a really really rough year and the kindness here helped so much! BEST FOOD and locally owned and operated! He even gave us a Christmas gift knowing we go there for so many years. You just don't find that anymore. 7095 W 88th Ave, Westminster, CO 80021

This is maybe the most convoluted review I've ever written:…read moreWe were happy to get a spot here on OpenTable for Mother's Day. Fortunately, it is close to our home and the reviews looked great. When we arrived, we redirected from the main dining room to another space the restaurant owns 2 doors down. I wonder if we may have had a more attentive experience had we been in the original? The first disappointment was that our meal took 40 minutes to arrive from the time that we sat down. Our waiter consistently forgot that my husband had ordered a Diet Coke or to refill the drink when he had offered. The tables around us seemingly were served earlier, even though we all placed our orders around the same time. I ordered the Thai Pork Belly Benedict, which was absolutely delectable and definitely something write home about! And the country potatoes side was perfectly seasoned and crispy. I would absolutely go back for this, just maybe on a weekday brunch due to the wait. I thought it was extremely unique how the children's menu was plated in a muffin tin, with 6 different food choices for just $12. Great deal! My husband had a Belgian waffle topped with fruit, which was really unremarkable. Reminiscent of something that you might self-make at a hotel breakfast. Unfortunately, his waffle was cold, and he requested that they remake, which our server made sure was done in a timely manner. All in all, our meal was very reasonably priced at around $43. I just wish it hadn't been such a long wait, both to receive the initial order and for drink refills.

Our waitress was amazing - friendly, made great recommendations, and talked us through the menu, answer all of our questions thoroughly. We ordered the streak tartare app, clearly a staff favorite and they put a unique twist on the standard dish with mushrooms and a divine Dijon mustard sauce. The bread was baked to perfection - crunchy but soft all at the same time. My friend got the salmon, cooked to medium and I got the Jamaican jerk chicken which was not very spicy and contained a lot of flavor. The mango chutney and green mojo combo was complex and paired well with the chicken. My friend devoured she salmon so one can only assume it was delicious! I would highly recommend if you are looking for a date night or dinner with a friend and you're in the Broomfield area, Hickory and Ash is the spot!

Quick note though, they do not pick up their phone. I called three times before heading over and it just rang straight to voicemail each time, so don't count on getting ahold of anyone. We walked in as a two top and got seated in the back room. At first I wasn't loving it since it's kind of cut off from the rest of the restaurant and the ambiance definitely takes a hit back there. But our server Tristen completely turned that around. Super knowledgeable, funny, kind, and quick. He also paid close attention to my girlfriend's allergies and made sure she could order without stressing, which I really appreciated. Food wise, everything hit. Classic steakhouse vibes in the best way. My ribeye was cooked perfectly and the mussels we started with were actually great, which you don't always expect out here in Colorado being landlocked. All in all, aside from the back room situation and the phone issue, this place delivered. Honestly feels like that space should be reserved for private events or opened up a bit. Huge shoutout to Tristen though, he alone bumped this from a solid 3 to a 4 for me.
