Conveniently located right off of the main road in Tiverton, Black Goose made a great place to stop for a quick lunch in the area! The views of the water from the patio are great! They had a lot of interesting specials (including ramen!), but not many of them were vegetarian, so I ordered the caprese panini. It had tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, baby spinach, and herb spread. The flavors were good, but the bread was pretty thin--I think the sandwich would taste better on a different type of bread. The tuna burger looked amazing; it came with a huge piece of tuna considering the reasonable price! Some of the sandwiches come with chips but some don't, so check if you want to be sure! The highlight of my experience was definitely the dessert: the key lime pie was amazing! Key lime pie is my favorite, but the other items in the dessert case looked really tempting too. You can call ahead if you're curious about what they have! As others have mentioned, the people working here seem kind of young. You're supposed to order and pay at the counter, and if you're eating in they will bring your food and drinks out to you. Overall, the Black Goose Cafe is a really cute spot! I spent countless hours here from 2010-2012 doing computer work and staring out to beautiful Nanaquaket Pond. It's been many years since I moved from RI, but I hope it's the same staff. The owner and staff were always so nice and let me hang. Their pasta and potato salads are top notch, and great sandwiches and pastries. This small cafe is located right by the water. Very scenic spot! The service was great, prompt and welcoming. I really enjoyed the roast beef sandwich and it was a generous size. This is a great spot for a sandwich when you're in Tiverton (or on your way to the beach). They have changing sandwiches every month and season and some classics. I've never been disappointed with any of the sandwiches (most run $8-10 each). Each sandwich usually comes with their house made Buffalo pasta salad. It is so amazing and such a classic. Sometimes we pick up a container to take home and indulge on. (depending on size runs $6-10). They have delicious desserts. I've tried the blueberry pie which almost has a cookie like top cost, truly delicious! Rice crispy treat and s'mores bars are yummy also! Coffee drinks run a little high for the quality, but are decent. My favorite is the peanut butter cup latte made with real peanut butter! I haven't tried brunch yet, but that looks great as well, along with breakfast cocktails! They also have a few bottled beers to enjoy with your dinner. Excellent views of outside. Seating available outside. Clean bathrooms! Only 4 stars because they're not always friendly here. Sometimes I've been ignored. And also for the prices, some things aren't worth what they charge. The food was decent and the view was a plus but the staff could use some training. We sat at an outside table for some time before we realized that no one was going to take our order. A sign would help. Once inside we felt as if we were unwelcome and an inconvenience. Some small procedure changes and staff training would help to make this small restaurant a jewel. read more

Black Goose is the "goto" baker of all things apple pie. That alone is 5 stars. But they also have many other delicious baked goods that I can't eat now cuz I'm dieting. What I can eat is from their uncanny healthy menu options including Greek and Italian. Wraps. Soups. It's awesome with an atmosphere reminiscent of small town New England. Love the Black Goose! I am a huge fan of the et tu brute sandwich and that is my usual go to when I visit! Their food always tastes fresh and the environment is comfortable, no one will bother you if you sit with a laptop or a friend for awhile. Wow! Great place! The iced latte had a real espresso flavor. The egg scramble had spinach and bacon: flavorful and cooked perfectly. Even the multigrain toast had great flavor. I like this place, although it can sometimes be inconsistent. My biggest concerns about it have more to do with the cleanliness during COVID. I ordered some stuff from the counter the other day and the two different girls who grabbed the things I ordered did not wear gloves. They did use tissue, but I've worked in food service before and I know that sometimes those can slip, rip, etc. I also noted that no one was bothering to clean/sanitize the outdoor tables between guests when I was there. I don't know about inside, I would like to assume they do take better care in there, but now I have to wonder. Even if it wasn't for COVID, these seem like pretty basic standards. I do love the vibe of the place and when the food is good, it's very good, but gloves should be worn by anyone handling food and surfaces should be cleaned and sanitized frequently. read more

The service and food have taken a nosedive. We once loved this place but no more. Just returned, ordered 3 sandwiches to go...only 2 other couples there at the time. We were told to wait in the dining room. Waited 45 min then went back to counter where our order had been sitting for who knows how long. Did the two girls working offer an apology? Nope , just said " oh, thought it was a phone order" Got home, sloppy sandwiches.... the Gobbler had one thin slice of turkey ( see the pic). While we waited there had been a " disturbance " in the kitchen ... yelling, banging of pots.... the sandwiches looked like the kitchen sounded. On our way home from Newport, we were looking for an informal quick bite to eat not too far from the highway so Yelp reviews led us here. A cozy cafe with outdoor dog-friendly seating and a handful of tables indoors, a display case of sweets (cakes, cookies, muffins, quiches, baked French toast, spanakopita and a few other goodies) greets you right as you enter. A board above the sweet display lists the coffee/latte selection and the board to the right, the specials. A menu is also available with all of the breakfast, lunch and dinner items. A very friendly young lady behind the sweet display greeted us immediately. You place your order at this counter, seat yourself and they bring your order to you. My friend and I decided on sharing the Greek salad with grilled salmon, a bowl of lobster bisque, the spanakopita dinner and I ordered the iced cocoa loco for a drink. We sat outside with my yellow lab and the patrons outside were all dog lovers so the ambience was relaxing and view of the bay across the road was lovely. Our drinks (ice tap water and the iced cocoa loco) were delivered rather quickly to our table and it took maybe about 10 minutes for our dinners to arrive. The salmon over the salad was a bit overcooked and was a little fishy for me but the salad was plentiful with mixed greens, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, roasted red peppers, olives, sliced onions and a Greek dressing and feta on the side. The lobster bisque was piping hot, very creamy with a strong hint of tomato (which I liked) but my friend thought it was a bit strong. The bisque contained small chunks of lobster which tasted fresh. The slice of spanakopita was generous and very good, just the right amount of spice, feta and spinach. We both would have preferred it to be hotter. It was warm, just not hot. The tzatziki was excellent served with toasted pita wedges. Would have like the pita wedges to be hotter too, they were luke-warm. The small side of mixed greens salad contained very fresh greens, cucumbers with a Greek dressing. A very good value at around $9. The iced cocoa loco made with almond milk was terrific. Rich cocoa flavor, well mixed/combined and not too sweet. Service could not be more friendly and helpful. Total tab around $38. Not sure about the cost of the iced coffee drink, salmon add on or lobster bisque as none of those items had prices next to them. We were pleased with the value of our meal for the price. A great stop en route home in a very quaint community. read more

Pretty great sandwich place with views of the water and the bonus of outdoor seating. They also have wifi, so you can find people working from here during the day. My favorite part? Their bomb ass pasta salad that comes with the sandwiches. It's a little spicy and a lot awesome. The sandwiches are good, and can easily compared to the flavor of Panera Bread with just a touch of homemade goodness. Salads also taste similar. The Lighthouse tuna panini is fantastic. Recently got a turkey sandwich and it was overwhelmed by mayo, so "light on the mayo" would be a good phrase to include in your order. They have all kinds of tasty looking desserts. Awesome brunch spot! We went for a hike in Little Compton and stopped here for brunch on the way home on a Sunday morning. It wasn't busy which was surprising because the location has a view of the water across the main road and it's super cozy. In the summertime there's patio seating, too! We had the hot Apple toddy, Apple cider Bellini, spicy ramen bowl and an egg scramble from the specials board. The drinks were delicious! I recommend the toddy if you're looking to warm up. The ramen bowl was definitely two servings' worth of yum. My egg scramble had spinach, tomato and feta with a side of toast, it was perfectly sized and very good. I deduct 1 star because I found it impossible to determine the cost of the drinks and the items on the specials board without asking. It wasn't on my receipt either which was kind of a bummer. Also, the counter staff was high school-aged girls who weren't overly helpful or familiar with customer service etiquette. It might make a nice difference if there were a manager/supervisor/senior cashier providing some direction or oversight to help them learn and improve. For example, the girl thought we were done with the ramen bowl but, rather than offering to wrap it, she wanted to clear it away. When we asked for her to wrap it up to go, she replied with 'I'll see what I can find in the back'. It was a little odd. I would recommend this spot for brunch for groups of 1-4 people. read more

When Black Goose was new in town the sandwiches and desserts were out of this world. We would frequently visit. Over the years there has been a major decline in consistency. I will say I notice that there seems to be alot of younger people working during the decline and I am not sure if that is the reason or not. Sandwiches always used to come with a Kosher pickle and a side of either mac salad, pasta salad or a potato salad. The last couple times I ordered 2 Parisian Paninis sandwiches to go, they didn't include anything except the sandwiches, they no longer give a nice piece of chicken breast in the panini, it was so tiny all you could taste was the herb cheese spread that was smothered on the bread. My husband and I couldn't even eat them. Desserts are still pretty good though. read more

This place has so much to offer. I was overwhelmed with the options for lunch. They have paninis and sandwiches on their regular menu, Asian inspired dishes on their specials, and pizza and other bakery items in the counter. I ended up with a basic tuna panini because I couldn't comprehend the breath of choices. It was great and the pickles on the side were a nice touch. I was a little sad not to have the side of pasta salad that people talked about in their reviews. I didn't need it in terms of amount of food, but I'm always a fan of sides. While I was eating an older man came in and wanted a cup of coffee and a pastry (not chocolate based) to go. The people working the counter helped him pick one out and he left. Soon after he came back in and said that his co-pilot ordered him to go get more of the same. It was super cute. This bodes well for their pastry selection I would say. I will definitely have to come back to try all of the other options that looked and sounded so yummy. I was also surprised to see that they serve alcohol and are open for dinner.
