I am an avid pizza lover. Honestly, who DOESN'T love pizza?! My all time favorite thin crust pizza is from Lombardi's in NYC. Unfortunately, that isn't easily accessible here in California. However, Blaze could definitely be a replacement for now. I had the Meat Eater pizza. I don't know what else to say about it than it was amazing. Blaze and Pieology are good comparisons, but everyone needs to go try 800 Degrees in Westwood. While Blaze is good for the price and has unlimited toppings, it is very fast food quality compared to 800 Degrees, which really excels at making a neopolitan pizza that tastes much more refined. The crust tastes less manufactured, and the toppings are much higher quality at 800. Blaze is good. 800 Degrees, which is founded by the same guys as Umami Burgers, is just better. Think The Counter vs. Umami...both are tasty, but one is more refined. read more

I think the overall concept of being able to pick and choose your own toppings is an amazing idea, and I wish more restaurants and food joints could perfect it. First time here last night and liked it so much I got 3 pizzas....!!! Well I did, no lie, but two pizzas I shared with my boyfriend and the third was take-out for others. Green Stripe is delicious with that pesto drizzle on top and works great with the mini bitterness you get with the arugula. We also tried to build our own pizza, adding the spicy sauce, artichokes, goat cheese, salami, sausage, and zucchini... which surprisingly worked well too! Overall, the pizzas were very flavorful and tasty at an affordable price! Quick service, fun for a date night or quick bite, and not too heavy/food-coma inducing because of the thin crust. Ok, I was kind of skeptical of the fast pizza concept...what could a 5 minute pizza really taste like? Something out of a freezer? The first time I got one of the gourmet pizzas and was disappointed. Luckily I came back to give them another try, ordering a regular cheese pizza. The cheese and sauce were very good although the crust is thin and can get a bit crispy around the edges. I'd suggest adding Gorgonzola to the regular pizza to give it some extra zing. The pizzas are made quickly and come out a few minutes after you check out. OK so I've been to Pieology and MOD - very similar concept - of build your own pizza and where Blaze totally excelled is that they use FRESH Mozzarella! I enjoy Pieology more than I do Blaze, no offense, but it's not bad here. I've been here a couple times, but only when my friends want it. I never really ever crave Blaze. They have lots of choices to choose from for crusts, and it's "Chipotle" style like Gogi, so you can choose the toppings you want. I love garlic so if you do too, put lots of garlic in it! Anyway, I always put some of my all-time favorite toppings on my pizza, and every time after I get it, I don't "love" it. It's tasty for the first bite, but then I get tired after awhile, and sometimes I can't even finish it. I often feel sorta "gross" after eating it.. I came here yesterday with my brother and I believe I paid a little over 7 bucks for my pizza. The sauce and cheese options are extensive, my favorites when it comes to pizza. The white sauce, pearl mozzarella, and ricotta are musts. Try have your basic veggies and then some... I wouldn't recommend the zucchini, it makes the pizza super soggy because it's soaked in water or something. If you are looking for something sweet, try the s'mores pie... So yummy! The place was empty when we arrived, and packed when we left. I think when school is not in session the crowds are governed by the theater schedules. Crust was a bit soggy, but overall the flavor was good. They add a small rise on the rim of the crust to give it the traditional raised edge look. When making the pizza they stick your pizza id on a metal insert, which gets cooked with the pizza - when the pizza is done, they remove it. Interesting way to track pizzas, never seen a pizzeria do this, nor can I say I like that method. They give you a good amount of toppings (you may need to ask for more) and they seem to make your pizza assembly line (with the same person) rather than pass the pizzas down the line like other make-it-yourself pizza places. I did find it a little awkward waiting for the pizza at the counter, when I'd rather sit down and have them bring the pizza to the table. They don't use table tents so they can't do table service as the seating is seat-yourself. Overall the pizza was good, but due to the quirks, I'll give it a four. read more

If you come at the wrong time your going to wait and that line will be out the door with hungry UCI students. Now onto the battle between the two. I gotta say between both I think Blaze has a little bit better crust. I think both are freaking great though. Price wise they are pretty much the same. Toppings wise pretty much the same. Taste wise its a pretty close race. I love to build my own with pepperoni, meatball, bacon and jalapeno. Top it off with some feta and that is money in the bank right there. I come here for lunch with my co workers now and then and if you come after about 12:30 the lunch rush has died down a bit. But it can pick back up. I will hand it to the workers they get through the line pretty darn fast. They do have bottled beer here so can complete the ultimate pairing of pizza and beer. The pizza we had here was fine, but sadly, due to bad customer service, we won't be returning to this establishment. After ordering two Build Your Own pizzas, I went to the cashier to pay for them, was told an amount, and I assumed this accounted for one pizza being a High Rise pizza, which costs a bit more. The cashier told me the amount I was supposed to pay, and I ran my card through the machine, and saw the Card Approved notification. Immediately after this, the cashier must have realized that one of my pizzas was rung up as a regular pizza, not a High Rise pizza (like I would know standing on the other side of the register?), which costs a couple dollars more. She asked me if this was the case, and I, still thinking that was what I had just paid for, said yes. She then starts punching buttons on the screen and announces a new, higher amount I should pay. I never would want to weasel out of a few dollars, so I slide my card again, and again, I see the Card Approved notification at the top of the screen. The cashier then hands me my receipt and turns to help people behind me, but because I had a feeling I had just been charged twice for the same order, I ask her if she's going to cancel the first charge on my card, she kind of nods listlessly without any other explanation. Because I didn't want to create an issue when I know they're busy and wanted to give this girl the benefit of the doubt on something I assumed made sense, I just left the situation. Looking back now, and seeing I had been charged twice for two pizzas, I wish I had asked more about this before leaving the register, but I'm a bit disappointed that this cashier wouldn't think to comp a charge when she clearly knew what the situation was. Since then, I've tried to contact the store, Blaze corporate over the phone, request the mistake be fixed through the their online feedback site, and send them a direct email with credit card statement screenshots and pictures of our receipt, but have heard nothing back.
