Food is always solidly good here. Service is usually friendly, but if you come here be prepared to sit for a while, because the food is slow to come out and I feel at times they can be somewhat disorganized. The meal starts out with fresh baked bread and some kind of spread (I think it is a take on humus). They have some nice appetizer choices, I happen to LOVE their take on fondue, and they often have new and exciting appetizer specials. They have great soups too. The drinks here are always good, their bartended knows what they are doing. For main courses, I am partial to their pot roast, which is served mille feuille style with these yummy noodle like circles bettween layers of delicious and tender beef with a nice mix of vegetables. They always have interesting specials, and their burger nights are a great deal. The atmosphere of the restaurant is comfortable, not overly fancy but nice enough for a date. They updated the restaurant to have more comfortable booth seating, which added some space which was needed on weekend nights. Bliss is known for good food. I set up a gp to dine and everyone was more than pleased. Yes, the prices are steep. The calamari is the best I have ever tasted...I could swim in that creamy, garlicky sauce. Do not pass on this item. The appet. is lge enough for two. My chicken was heavy but delicious...well prepared and seasoned. A round the table ck left all greatly pleased. Upon arrival we were asked to be seated at the bar in wait. I got the usual cranberry and ginger-ale. The next person to arrive declined to a drink as she preferred to have her drink w/the meal. Well, the bar maiden, saw red. You know on SNL where they do the sketch...Oprah gives away freebies and an audience attendees head explodes..well, that happened to the bar keep. She went off....quizzed me...Are u dining here? Who took your reservation? Who did you speak to? Who told you to sit at the bar? Hang on a mo' to give me time to answer one of those question. Nope. She was taking off with smoke trailing to find out who put a non-drinker in her midst when three others from our gp intercepted her departure w/complicated mixed drinks. The bar maid found her way back to sanity and smiled like she was all normal and such. One person not ordering when told to sit does not spoil the bar scene when there are only two other people seated and they are eating. Her behavior was uncalled for. We sat for no more than five minutes and would have relinquished seats to paying customers if the need arose. read more

This was not a great experience to say the least. We were a party of 5 and none of us were impressed at all. I don't know how many things will be in this list, but here it is: 1) A waitress shouldn't start a conversation with how she shouldn't even be here tonight, she is just doing someone a favor (this was evident in the service). 2) Fried calamari should not come out DROWNING in a sauce, it should be crispy with sauce on the side. This was a pile of mush. 3) While I liked them, I couldn't taste the coconut in the coconut shrimp. The sauce was flavorful and I liked it, but I couldn't taste anything remotely coconut about it. 4) Two steaks off the "Specials" list - just bad. Presentation was buried in sauce so I almost couldn't see the NY strip. It was a very good size, but had tough strings of fat in it. Good steak doesn't actually NEED the steak knife. I ate mine, my father didn't eat his. 5) Pasta dish was not eaten and later described to me as "dog food." The red meat sauce was horrible. I am not Italian, but I could make a better sauce (gravy) than this. The meat was dry and crumbly and the sauce itself had very little taste at all. 6) Soda came out flat, returned, and never spoken of again. Literally, never spoken of again. She didn't bring out more later, never asked if we wanted something else, never let us know that they had no gas, nothing. 7) When I showed the waitress the Yelp coupon on my phone, she walked away with my phone... strange. They had never seen it and had to call the owner to find out what to do. Which was fine, I just thought it was strange that she walked away with my phone. 8) The waitress should have brought out more soda once the gas tank was changed on the soda. She should have noticed that half way through the meal two people weren't eating. She took the uneaten pasta and the sodas off the bill, the uneaten steak should have gone with them. The waitress tried to offer everyone an after dinner drink to compensate, we declined. Invited us back for a free drink, won't be back. read more

My wife and I had a great quiet dinner at Bliss on a recent Thursday night. We both had the tomato basil soup special and it was tasty and hot. My wife had the filet mignon and she loved it. We had a great time, service was spectacular and the bartender made a great Irish Coffee for me as a dessert. We will go back, certainly. read more

After reading some other reviews I decided to describe my experience at Bliss with 4 of my friends. We enjoyed sharing some salads, but when the entrees came, one of my friends just did not like the taste of the fish. She told the waitress and asked for chicken instead. We finished our meals, no chicken. No waitress. Finally she got the waitress and asked her to just box the meal and she would take it home. We ordered three desserts to share. They were put in the center of the table, so they knew we were sharing, but there were no plates for each person, just the desserts. Finally the chicken meal came, wrapped to go. No one from the restaurant commented on the dinner that had taken the time of our entire meal to cook, no one apologized, really no one cared. I was amazed at this, and I concur with other reviews that complained about the service. I have been to Bliss before and their short ribs were excellent and that chicken dish was fine so I can't give it only one star, but decent service is an important part of a fine dining experience and this restaurant just didn't have it. read more

I don't write restaurant reviews often but when I do the meal is Extraordinary. Our time at Bliss last night was just that. From the moment you step foot into this romantic setting Ron the owner makes you feel welcome and special. He is certainly attentive to every need. From serving perfectly made cocktails to a desert that tasted incredible. Last night our dinner started off with goat cheese salad with fresh smoked salmon. It was delectable, exquisitely prepared and expertly presented. WOW factor of 10. Next up was Whole Wheat Linguini - Broccoli rabe, white beans, sundried tomatoes - Garlic, oil & parmesan cheese. It's actually hard to describe how fantastic this dish was. Homemade pasta, fresh ingredients and an aroma that was incredible. My wife thought it was once of the best pasts dishes we ever tried and now it's at the top of the list. I had the Jagermeister Pork Baby Back Ribs and a side of mashed potatoes. I've had ribs just about everywhere. Let me tell you these were as good as it gets. The meat just fell of the bone and melted in my mouth. They were that good. Again - Wow factor 10 We concluded out night at Bliss with espresso martini and a desert that consisted of fried banana and chocolate ice cream. Great way to end a fantastic evening. New Years Eve. We were drawn to the restaurant because of the reasonable priced and good selections on the early bird menu. $29.95 for a 3 course dinner. We would have much preferred to dine at a later hour, but decided to head over to E. Setauket. Upon being presented with the 2 menus, we found that the lowest price was $36.95 and then there was a menu with more selections for $59.95. The manager was very friendly and accommodating, and allowed us to pick from both menus, but there were less choices than were listed in the online menu and there were only 2 courses, not three - though dessert was now included, and the price was $36.95, not $29.99 Being on a restricted diet, my main interest in the online menu was that there were at least 2 choices that were suitable for me in each course. The menu we were presented with did not have all of these offerings, and was more limited. For an appetizer 3 of us ordered the shrimp cocktail of sorts. The cocktail arrived with 2 lonely shrimp on the plate, artfully presented, tasty, but sparse. The main course was good, and the dessert was ok. All in all, this restaurant that my friends frequent and enjoy, turned out to be a non memorable and a bit frustrating New Years Eve dining experience. I guess if restaurants are going to have menus and specials listed on their website, they need to have them scrutinized much more carefully before hand. read more

Recently dined here on a Friday night after not having been here for a few years. The place was much louder than we remembered. The small bar was crowded and there was live entertainment. The service was good but we were disappointed with the food. Crab cakes were moist but did not have enough crab and the red snapper was very bland. Dinner for two was under $100 with a bottle of wine so it was not too expensive but there are better choices locally so we probably will not return. read more

We walked here because it is close to Stony Brook Univ. It was great. We got a burger, mac & cheese and crab cakes. All were good. Service was good. Chardonnay was inexpensive and good. We will go back when we come again. We were pleasantly surprised. Service was also really good. read more

The worst place I have ever been to. Had an 8 o'clock Rez with wife and another couple. We were told we would have to wait 20 mins for our table. No problem we sat at the bar and had a cocktail, it only took about 20 min for the overwhelmed bartender to get the drinks for us no big deal. They seat my party and asked me to close out the tab again not a big deal. As I waited while the overwhelmed bartender prepared other guests checks I noticed that each time she printed a receipt she would stick it in her mouth while she was getting the bill holder, when I saw her do this with mine as well, I asked the hostess to read me the balance bc I refused to touch it. After paying my bill (another 20 min ordeal) I joined my party, they were not to pleased with the service and had been asking for bread the entire time that I was trying to pay my bar bill. We ordered another round of drinks after more the 15 min later they arrived at the table and they were not the drinks we ordered, they offered to buy us a round because of the mess up at this point we decided this was not going to get any better and left, we went to Mario's down the street and had a fantastic time with great service and food. read more

I went here the other day for breakfast for the first time. I had a great experience! I ordered a bacon egg and cheese on a hard roll, and it was absolutely delicious. They gave me 2 eggs with a good amount of cheese. The price was reasonable for the amount. I couldn't even finish the whole thing. Coffee was fresh and hot. Also I purchased meats from the butcher. I was very pleased with the quality. I will definitely be returning to bliss! read more

Went there 11/3/15 for restaurant week. The restaurant week menu posted on line (and still there the following day) was not what they had when we arrived at the restaurant. I am a vegetarian and there was no longer a vegetarian option. They did accommodate me, although not with the Butternut Squash Ravioli, which was on the on-line menu (and one of the reasons that restaurant was chosen). Server was very blah. She did not ask us for our drink orders. She did not have any suggestion when my dining partner was deciding between 2 main course options. Once our main course plates were cleared, we had to wait too long for server to come over with dessert options (restaurant was not crowded and server didn't' seem overly busy - not sure what the hold up was). I came to bliss with my boyfriend for a late lunch early dinner. It seemed like when we showed up they weren't exactly ready to host guests. This very friendly guy sat us down and mentioned he would bring us a drink menu and bread, and neither came. About 5-7 minutes later our waitress showed up and asked if we would like a drink. We told her that we were waiting for a drink menu and she brought us one. The menu she brought had only specialty drinks on it, none with beers or wine. We had to ask a third time for a drink menu. My boyfriend finally ordered a beer and then 5 minutes later was told that they didn't have any available. I ordered a wine and then was told if I wanted that wine I had to order a bottle. I settled on the house and it was ok, not what I wanted, but it was good enough. We ordered an appetizer and it was pretty good. The calamari was pretty tasty and the sauce it was in was a nice change of the regular Mariana they give at most places. The bread came with hummus which I don't really like. We asked for butter and it was loaded with salt flakes. It tasted like it was left out all night or something. Just not good at all. The entire time these fruit flys were flying around our table and kept landing in my drink and on our food. It was disgusting. I know the waitress saw the bugs too. I know it isn't her fault but it was nasty. We both decided to get a burger because we didn't really love how things were going and we figured it's easier to make a burger compared to some things. The burger was supposed to have bacon on it and neither of ours came with it. The burger did not taste done and was slimy. I just ate my fries because I was afraid I would get food poisoning honestly. I really wanted to like this place but I left hungry and between the undercooked food and flys I won't be back. My boyfriend mentioned his beer tasted stale. I don't get it. This place has a bar in it also, the bar portion is small but they could probably do better if they shut the restaurant part down. I can't imagine anyone ordering catering from this place honestly. A very strange experience and while everyone was polite and nice they need a new cook or a new business plan for sure. read more

I came here two nights ago for dinner and had a great time. The restaurant and decor were really nice. Instead of butter, they give a pesto hummus with the bread which was awesome. I got the sea bass and my girlfriend got the risotto. The bass was light and had good flavor, the portion was on the smaller side. The risotto had great texture, but could have used some more ingredients as risotto usually doesn't pack a lot of flavor. Overall great food and ambiance, but it was the service that really made Bliss stand out. As soon as we sat down both the server and the owner went out of their way to ensure we had a good night. They gave us good recommendations and were very nice. After passing on the appetizers, the owner had the chef prepare an off menu appetizer for my vegetarian girlfriend, on the house so that we "get the full experience." Very different experience than other reviews here about the service, and coming from the hospitality industry I'm usually very aware of things like that.
