Arrive by 10:15 and were seated immediately. Downloaded the menu and placed the order by 10:25. Waited for the coffee that finally arrived an hour later. The food was finally served by 11:10. The quesadilla was lukewarm when it made it to our table but my egg Benedict's were cold, the hollandaise sauce like glue. Have been a faithful fan of BJC but the Atwater restaurant has a lot of cashing up to do. Extremely long wait time and cold food is not a good combination. read more

The food is really good. Yes a little expensive but you get what you pay for. The service is really great. Very personable and attentive people who seem to genuinely care that you're having a good experience. I can't get over how bad their coffee is... it feels inexcusable in 2022 when you're surrounded by good coffee to have coffee that is this terrible. It's airplane quality. I get that they aren't a "coffee shop" and aren't trying to compete directly with Intelligentsia or whoever else... but it's not hard to make a decent cold brew (which, they don't have cold brew)... it's not hard to find some decent beans that don't taste burnt. While the environment is really nice (love the high ceilings, bright natural light, etc), I wish they'd pay attention to important details like the fact that the side door makes a *horrible* loud squeaking noise every time it's opened. If the coffee weren't *so* bad I would be happy to come here all the time and pay for their food. read more

The food was fine, the staff and service was very good. Although you can have eggs anyway you want them on most dishes, you can't change the eggs (scrambled by default) on the Chilaquiles or Migas. I've always had a fried egg on Chilaquiles, do a search and almost every photo has fried eggs, the runny yolk makes the dish. We asked and they won't do it because the "corporate chef" has his preference of eggs for some dishes and won't let it be changed. What a loser! Bro, you are the chef of a breakfast spot, your "signature dish" is French toast with corn flakes on it...that's "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" level food. It's a pretty high opinion of yourself to think your egg choice supersedes that of the customer, you're not eating it....plus you're wrong in this case. First time coming to Blu Jam in Atwater Village. The ambience and location were good but the food was just okay. They recommended the crunchy French toast as their specialty so I got that. My friend got the tofu hash. We also got the French press to share between the 2 of us. We ordered on our phones and my biggest gripe was that my french toast took forever to come out. The coffee came out quickly, my friend's tofu hash arrived soon after. We then waited for 15 mins, but the french toast never made it out. Nobody came to the table to make sure all the food had come out either (I understand this might be due to covid). Finally, I went to the counter to ask about the French toast, the person at the counter said she'll check on it. Then someone came to our table to ask my name for the French toast order. Only after that they brought it out 5 minutes later. I don't know if this is an issue with the online ordering system or if they're just understaffed. Tofu hash- the portion size is generous. It comes with 2 tortillas as well so it was definitely filling. However, it was underwhelming in taste. The potatoes were the tastiest bit but overall the dish definitely lacked flavor. Had to add some hot sauce and salt-pepper, then it was nice. Crunchy french toast- although recommended as their signature dish, was just okay. The crunch of the cornflakes coating was great but there was no custard-y center to the bread which I'd expect in a French toast. It was fairly dry and really needed the vanilla sauce and berries that it came with. They don't serve syrup which doesn't help. Overall, I hope the food improves over time because this is a very new location. I really want to come back for a better experience. read more

Some people hope to visit every Major League Baseball stadium before they die, I just want to visit every Blu Jam location. Each has its own distinctive vibe and Atwater is no exception. I have been a fan since they opened their first location on Melrose. We've celebrated my wife on Mother's Day at the Brentwood location, had breakfast meetings at the one Downtown, broken bread with my cousins in Encino, and so on and so on. Despite the additional locations and the state of the world we now live in, Blu Jam has managed to continue serving consistently excellent food, in a clean space, from an always-friendly staff. I'm happy to report that the Atwater Village location is no exception to all of these things that have put Blu Jam atop any list of the best breakfasts in the city. I had the Norwegian Benedict on my latest stop. Similar to a traditional Benedict but with smoked salmon, dill, and tomato instead of the usual ham. It did not disappoint. I've been a witness to how the grilled potatoes have been perfected over the years into what they are now. So perfect that even when I order something that doesn't come with them, I make sure to get a side order. My wife had the Migas, just as she has had for the past 16 years. Our kids had the Crunchy French Toast because you can't go to Blu Jam without getting at least one order of them (usually two). I don't think Blu Jam gets enough praise for their coffee. It reminds me of the kind you get at a 5-star hotel. I highly recommend any of their locations if you haven't been. It's a great place to take guests when they come in town and every person I've ever recommended it to as always thanked me for it later on. read more

Upon arriving we were seated quickly and ordered through their website. Our waiter was very friendly and accommodating. I ordered an americano which came out quick and tasted great. We were also served a small pitcher of water with leaves in it. Whatever leaves they had soaking in the water made it undrinkable; it almost tasted like I was drinking dirt water When it came to the food, it was decent but pretty overpriced. I've always wanted to try the Blu Jam Cafe. I have to say they did NOT disappoint. For this month, April, they have a special introductory offer of buy one, get one free. I was so pleasantly surprised! We were greeted by a smiling face who said we could sit anywhere we want. Then she proceeded to tell us to scan the code and place the order and pay via credit card. They do not accept cash. When you scan the code, it notifies the server the table you are seated at. This is the new contactless way of serving food and I LOVE IT. The decor was very hipster -- white walls with black borders. The music was energetic but not overly loud. You feel like you have been taken away to a small European village somewhere. I ordered the huevos rancheros which was one of the best I have ever had. The ranchero sauce was enough to coat the black beans and tomatoes. The medium fried egg sits on top of the finely cubed tomatoes and black beans. Then there is the fried tortilla which sits on top of finely cubed potatoes. The potatoes are soft and well spiced. There was also shredded cheese to top everything off. The food portions are huge. We also ordered the french toast!! That was really delish. The strawberries were finely cubed. I love the vegan options here, and the tofu scramble is one of my go-to's for breakfast on a random weekend. If you're vegan or vegetarian, or simply enjoy non meat options, try the scramble. So nicely seasoned and the veggies were fresh. A note, there is no traditional table service. You order off the QR code menu and someone brings your food. The minus one star simply reflects my utter confusion at the pricing for coffee beverages. Why is a latte with no enhancements or substitutes like $8? I just really like the crunchy french toast here, everything else was to me on par with your typical breakfast/brunch place. Was tasty though. I would come here again. I also like the casualness of ordering and paying on your phone, but be warned if you decide you wanna order something to go afterwards, they may not deliver it to your table, which was what happened to us. We were waiting and waiting and eventually we found out it was just sitting out on a table off to the side for who knows how long. I often pass by Blu Jam Cafe, Glenddale, CA, on my way to work. Finally, I had time to stop by for breakfast. The staff were friendly and, most importantly, the food was spectacular. I returned twice with friends who were equally impressed. Today, I had breakfast delivered. It was delivered fast and did not disappoint. Yes, the staff and management were welcoming and attentive. It was a weekday lunch and it wasn't crowded. I liked the ease of ordering and options for seating were good. The food was not remarkable... I had too much high hopes. It was average food. The one thing that really disappointed me was the quality of the ingredients. We ordered two salads. One salad looked okay the other had obvious old lettuce buried under the top bits. When asked I did speak up. The reply was, "we will mention it to the kitchen". Okay great. The coffee drinks were good but only that and the ToGo drink container was very flimsy. Had to abandon the beverage before I could get to the car. This is my all time favorite breakfast spot! They are also dog friendly and give a little water bowl and treats for the furry ones. Their food is consistent and always is spot on. The crunchy french toast is amazing. Always crispy on the outside and soft inside. The vanilla sauce on the side compliments the bread so well. The chilaquiles is to die for! I always get mine with a scrambled egg and add their habanero hot sauce and it is just perfect. Ordering over your phone on the table is so convenient and the waiters come and are very attentive.
