We used to go here a decade ago and on a recent trip back to LA, we decided to come back! This time with our rambunctious 2 year old. I am so impressed with the service at this location. Immediately after sitting down, without asking, they brought my toddler a free bowl of fruit recognizing that she was yelling "I'm hungry!" Lol. They were so helpful in giving suggestions for the menu, and food is fresh with HUGE portions. The staff are prompt, hard working, and just overall so kind. Boy what a great find this place was we really enjoyed it! They're located In a neat old building with a pedestrian mall and lots of other cafes and restaurants and they've got plenty of seating. The ordering is all done through your phone and they bring stuff out to you but you don't technically have a waiter or waitress. You order and pay get your food and leave when you're ready. I love it no worrying about waiting for a check or anything like that. More importantly the food was so good I got the blue jam benedict and it was yummy loved the ham and crispy bacon and their hollandaise was really unique and delish. Overall good food and service from Blue Jam staff. You use a QR code to see a menu and place your order. You do have to pay as soon as you order, causing additional tickets in case you want to order something extra. I did enjoy that there is seating on the patio, especially since it was nice weather. One major downside is that there are gnats everywhere. I understand that it is outdoor seating but in other outdoor patios I havent encountered them before. Another table mentioned it to the manager and he said he knew but couldnt do anything about it. There are other restaurants in the same location and they have plants outside. An infection in the plants could cause the unpleasantness of these gnats flying around. I'd suggest that they buy some gnat traps for the tables that are found on Amazon. read more

Super cute and cozy restaurant. We were greeted immediately by an awesomely hospitable person at the entrance and seated right away. He asked if we preferred indoor or outdoor seating and we chose indoor. Once seated, he asked if we had been to the restaurant before, which we had not. He walked us through scanning the QR code and informed us that we could place our order through our phones, but that he recommended at the register for ease and accuracy. After reviewing the delicious items on the digital menu (photos included) my husband went to the counter to place our order. The wait was minimal and our orders were hot and prepared as we requested. Blu Jam Cafe has so much hype as one of the most popular brunch spots in LA with several locations throughout the city. I went to the DTLA location and really wanted to like it, but it just fell flat in so many ways. Its location is in a small mall-like building with string lights, but there was absolutely no ventilation--it felt sticky hot and sweaty the entire time we were there, which was an unpleasant feeling. There were also flies flying around all over the place. In terms of the food, I split the Crunchy French Toast and Brunch Burger with a friend. The french toast was not crispy at all; instead, the corn flakes were soggy and limp. The toast itself also didn't have any flavor. I did like the vanilla bean sauce that it came with, but it had a huge piece of hair in it--gross. :( The burger was fine; it didn't have that much flavor and the meat was overcooked, so I would opt for other places' burgers. On top of that, my water had a fly swimming around in it--double gross. :(( The service was also terrible. Our waiters rarely came by to check on us and really only came to bring us cups for water and the food wen it was ready. When they did come, they were pretty rude; it was obvious they didn't really want to be there. The reason for 2 stars instead of 1 stars is for the potatoes. The potatoes were awesome. I liked how cute the mini cubed pieces were, and they had a great crunch on the outside and pillowy softness on the inside. Came upon this place on accident. It's in the cutest little alley with twinkle lights. The star of the show here is Guy! Not sure if he owns his place, but he definitely treats the customers like he does. What a gem! We weren't sure what to order and ended up ordering far too much food, but I will say it was all incredible. My husband got the breakfast sandwich with the potatoes and he loved it and I ordered the Chilaquiles, which Guy said was their most popular dish and they 100% delivered. The thing I will say about these too many items as they are large portions so I would hundred percent recommend sharing them. I can't recommend this place enough!! My boyfriend and I always come here when we have a chance. Today's visit was a special occasion, to start our 4 year anniversary celebration with breakfast. Our waiter, bulmaro made the morning very special. We were quick to make friendly chatter and he even cracked a few jokes. With great attitude and service. He surprised us with a platter with cinnamon toast and writing happy anniversary with vanilla cream in the middle (supeer good!!!. ) We ordered our usual hangover scrambled. My first review was for the Hollywood location- mistakenly posted for the DTLA location. I prefer the Hollywood location much more for ease of parking, navigation, and cleanliness. The DTLA (Spring st) location is still a fun experience as the mini mall-vibes with string lights is nice. The food is just as delicious and the QR-code online ordering and payment system is great for introverts and time efficiency. We had the Blu Jam benedict and Norwegian Benedict, which were wonderful. These potatoes are my favorite- the perfect ratio of crispy to mealy for hash browns, and the hollandaise with dill for the Norwegian is a nice herby touch. Note- you need to ask for a pass for the bathroom, which you give to the security guard across the way to let you into the bathroom hallway. First things first, I HIGHLY recommend the French Toast Churros. Crispy and flaky on the outside but soft and moist in the inside! It was like having heaven in my mouth and I'm not even a sweets person! Although, I'm quite sure about the basil as a garnish. This particular location is within a beautiful arcade building. There is dining in the indoor "outdoor" and the interior area. I would recommend sitting "outdoor" as you're underneath hanging lights and glass skylight which is fitting for a weekend brunch. The service was modern in a sense that you can order via QR code and be separated from the rest of the party or you can order inside like a traditional exchange. We have been to Blu Jam a few times, always with work friends. This one is in Downtown LA and is super cute. It has plenty of seating, the service is fast and very friendly and we have never had a bad meal there. We always start with their great coffee. It is French from a single-origin coffee bean from Guatemala's coffee producing region "San Lucas Toliman." The house espresso blend, is also great. They serve the Italian favorite Danesi. They are only open for breakfast and lunch and close at 2 on the weekdays and 3 on Saturday. I do not know it they are open on Sunday. Their breakfast is our favorite so we often go there for brunch, but their lunch is good as well. The place is ever so clean and all the food is locally sourced. Their Crunchy French Toast is really great. It is a fresh brioche dipped in the best tasting batter, and then rolled in corn flakes and grilled. It is topped with fresh berries, served with powdered sugar and vanilla bean sauce. It is heavenly. For lunch try the warm mushroom with mixed greens, sautéed mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, goat cheese, pumpkin seeds, and balsamic vinaigrette. You can add grilled chicken breast for about 4$ more. Speaking of lunch have the Argentinian Steak and Egg. I always order an extra egg. It is flattened beef tenderloin with potatoes, green beans, a sunny side up egg and a chimichurri sauce. I also order some bread with it. It is great. The prices are fair. You will love this place, I think. It is in the wonderful Arcade Building. read more
