First time here at Blu Jam Cafe, found this place on Yelp and it looked like it had a good variety of breakfast foods that everyone would enjoy. The food was great but the it was a bit pricey for a cafe. When you are seated there is a QR code provided so that you may order online at your table, which was fine it's a new thing many restaurants are adopting. But we didn't get much help even after the food came out, no one really checked on us and we had to flag people down for condiments or refills on water. Great food which is why I'm rating 4 starts but prices could be lower considering the service provided. read more

Came here on Sunday with two other friends. All parties need to be present before they will actually sit you down. I put my name down and the guy at the stand told me it would be 30-45 minute wait. This definitely beats out the Melrose location on wait time. They do have a very small parking lot, but those are for the few lucky ones. There is ample street parking and if you are willing to walk a little but, free parking on the back streets. The crunchy french toast is a MUST. We really enjoyed it. We ordered the rancheros, the california omelet, roma via paris. Everyone enjoyed their food. Our server came by a few times to check up on us, but never offered extra napkins or to refill the coffee I had ordered. Overall, time wise- this location is way better! I'd come back. read more

Are used to really enjoy coming here before Covid hit. The food is pretty good or at least it used to be. It seems that management might have changed and the staff have very little interaction with you even though Covid restrictions have been removed. I enjoyed tipping service workers seeing as that I was one for so long I understand how that works. You literally order yourself through your phone and pay through your phone there's very very very little interaction with your server. I have to go find someone if I needed anything else or have a question. Like get up and find someone.... Also, the food doesn't seem as good anymore. I'm not sure why. And I used to enjoy getting the pressed coffee, but it seems stale now... (the last 3X I went) I used to wait for an hour to get into this place. I can see why this place has so many open tables. You have to order from your table on a QR code that makes you download an app, or go back up to the register and order with a person. Took forever for the coffee to arrive and it was only enough for three cups (for two people) ! When our coffee finally came he tried delivering to the wrong table first. Then when the food came my food wasn't right. No one ever stopped by to check on us or even walked by so we could ask for something. My first time trying Blue Jam in Sherman Oaks, and it came pretty highly recommended. First contact with host wasn't great. She acted like she didn't want to be there. The ordering and paying through the app thing is irritating at best. It's neither quick nor convenient, and it doesn't allow you to customize your order enough if you have any food allergies or restrictions. Very poor system. Food arrives, and one item was incorrect, and the other had fried potatoes that were just flat cold. Room temperature would have been an upgrade. No one ever came back to check on us, at all. I asked someone passing by for help and they held up their finger and said give me the irritated "just a minute" and no one ever returned. Service wasn't just bad, it was nonexistent To be fair, the coffee was pretty good. But if I'm paying 60 bucks for a lunch for two, the food needs to be ok, and the service can't be that terrible. Hard pass. Spend your time and money elsewhere. I won't waste my time coming back. read more

I also didn't like that they don't have waiter service, you scan the QR code on the table and order through the app and pay through it as well. This is another place that seems to be going downhill fast. Just five years ago or so it was a trendy, excellent place for brunch, with creative menu items and everything cooked perfectly and served with a smile. It's kind of a mess now, but maybe they'll right the ship. The last time I ate there I had the steak hash, which is my fave on the menu. Every single part of that dish was poorly executed: - The hash browns were overcooked, flavorless, wretched - The whole dish was under-seasoned and under-salted. Tasted like no salt at all. - The green sauce had a thick skin on it and the mushrooms were overcooked - it's hard to say how the eggs were because after poking and nibbling at this foul plate-vomit, I had completely lost my appetite. (At least they comped the dish, but didn't seem to care much.) Some of that is due to poor culinary execution and other parts may be because it was left to sit under a heat lamp for a very long time. Which brings me to my next point.... The service is a complete disaster now. Once they dropped off my food (and the check with it), they disappeared. The restaurant is using a godawful QR code menu now, and the service is done by committee. And it's really, really bad. No one checked to see how the food was or even filled my coffee. I was legitimately mad at this place -- which, by the way, used to be me and my daughter's favorite place to eat. A special occasion. Waiting 70 minutes for a table used to be worth it. The wait seems to be decreasing, for the above-mentioned reasons, but if I pay $60 for a 2-person breakfast without booze, I expect much better. I haven't been back since that terrible last time, but the two trips before that were subpar as well. I may try it once more but that's it. They have multiple locations which tells me that they're a good quality restaurant. The interior and energy at these restaurants are nice, but not ever Blu Jam location is the same -- some are better than others. The Blu Jam in Sherman Oaks is 5-stars worthy, while the Blu Jam in Tarzana is 3-star worthy. The attention to a heightened customer experience is definitely noteworthy at Sherman Oaks, from fancy water cups, outdoor dining area, good food, etc. The location at Tarzana is the same cost as the food over in Sherman Oaks, but the experience isn't the same. read more

The food was very good and it tasted very healthy, especially my vegan oatmeal. My husband had an open face omelet with a delicious decaf americano. My grandaughter had the kids breakfast which included 1 slice of bacon, 1 egg, 1 slice of toast and potatoes. Last portion for almost 10 year old. A good place to meet for a casual breakfast near Sherman Oaks. You order from your phone as there is no dedicated server as food is just delivered to your table, making for an impersonal experience. I've been coming here ever since I moved to the valley which was back in 2019. After the pandemic it was a whole different rhythm in service but has never disappointed me. The food and the staff are simply incredible. Definitely my favorite breakfast/brunch place to come to and the atmosphere is just great. Best French toast ever, no matter what my family and I decide to get here, we always get the French toast after our meals, so crunchy and delicious, food is very fresh and that always makes us come back. Nothing here makes sense. This is a brunch spot that refuses to serve maple syrup. They think their weird vanilla glaze that reminds me of a human secretion is a decent substitute that everyone will love. You're forced to order through the QR code system which I don't mind, but system doesn't let you make any substitutions. For example they have a soyrizo hash which used to be my favorite but they won't let you substitute the eggs for tofu even though they offer this in other vegan dishes here. I was even happy to pay for it on top of my meal, bit they don't offer it as a side option either. I feel bad for the waitstaff as I'm sure they hear these annoying complaints all the time, but its really on the management/owners. read more

Been coming to Blujam location for a couple years now. The food here has always been consistently good and prepared as desired. Always flavorful and always fresh. The only issue I had this time was regarding one of the staff. We were finishing up our meal and one of the waitresses came and asked us if we were done with the hot sauce and ketchup. We replied "no we're still working on our food" and thanked her. She rolled her eyes, gave a nice little stank-eye and walked away. All the other staff were great but she must have really hated being there to be rude to customers who were actually nice to her. read more

Love the environment and culture at the Blu Jam Cafe, this location especially has a much shorter wait time compared to the DTLA location. I ordered the Beet salad and added salmon..which was amazing! The salmon was perfectly cooked; crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. However, if your going to call it a "Beet Salad" I expect more that 5 beet slices. Next I had the Blu Jam Benedict with potatoes and this was A+ so I highly recommend ordering this if you come. The only other remark I have is regarding the service, the staff isn't too attentive. We struggled to locate our waiter for our check after waiting 10 minutes, so we flagged another employee down. read more

It helps jump a few numbers than waitlisting at the spot. I ordered make your own omlette as the Vegetarian options are limited. The menu itself is limited and vegetarian options are about 2-3. My omlette had egg whites, spinach, tomatoes, onions and Avacado. It came with a side of small cut potato pieces and really tiny sour dough bread pieces. All of it was just crowded on to one single plate. I was afraid no matter where I put my spoon something is going to spill out. I think overall it was decent but not the best.
