My friends took me here for my birthday this year and I must say I was a bit skeptical about going because of the bad reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is very beautiful and clean. It's surrounded by windows. The view is of the hotel and the parking lot across the street, not a great view but the windows are still a nice touch. And the cool blue light that comes on after dark is cute. We all LOVED the food. Quite a few of us have been back again since my birthday. The first time I got the salmon and it was very good. The second time I got the chicken and it was delicious! My sister and my friend both had the filet mignon and said they wished they could lick the plate clean. LOL I even got some soup from the cafe to go, the chicken tortilla soup was delicious! I don't mind there being a gym on the same floor, doesn't bother me. You don't actually walk THRU the gym to get to it. You take the elevator up and get off and the restaurant is right there. I don't even know where the gym is exactly, I just know it's there because I see people coming from it. Please give this restaurant a chance and try it for yourself. Oh man, I wish I could give this place 5 stars, I really do. It is a close one, definitely. The location is superb, right in the theater district, and is hiding on top of a gym. As if it was intended for you to work off a bunch of calories, then put on something slightly nicer and gain them all back again. Don't let the prices scare you. Yes, it is expensive. But it is a very good value. You get excellent quality food and appropriately large portions. * indicates dishes I sampled from other people in my group. No star means I ordered for myself. Tuna Tartar is one of the best things I've ever had. You get a very generous amount of tuna, coated in a gentle, mild, guac (more like crushed avocado). Sauce is divine, and taro chips are a nice touch. Mushroom soup was also very nice. It had a pleasant consistency and flavor. Truffle oil is a nice touch. However, I would have liked to see a little more flair in this dish. Aside from the truffle oil, there is nothing that makes this dish a star. But I will give them points for simplicity, and for a perfect salt level!!! *Calamari was very pleasant. Olives, pepperoncino, aioli all add a nice acidity to this dish. You also have to love the little cloth they put on the lemon (so you can squeeze without seeds). *Eggplant Napoleon was good, and was something else. I mean it is nothing like eggplant parmesan, not even close. Still a nice blend of flavors. However, in this dish, I would have liked ingredients to be a little more distinct, and less blended. Lobster Club was good, but not super. Also not technically a club (club are double decker). Good amount of lobster, but not enough BLT (key in a club). I do admire that bacon was in tiny square pieces rather than slices (more consistency).Fries were good, nothing spectacular. *Scallops were awesome. not overly fishy, soft, and delicious *Ditto to swordfish -- cooked perfectly, with delicious sides and sauce. Out of Drinks the Mariachi is delicious. Strong, a little sweet a little spicy, and great. A must get! Desert was eh. Blu really impressed me. Always offering some type of deal (groupon, travelzoo etc) I was skeptical, but the menu sounded delicious and it ended up tasting that way too. We came bearing a travelzoo voucher and the waiter didn't flinch. The staff was pleasant and friendly the whole night. The views were nice, offering a glimpse of some nice buildings and a little Boston skyline. The windows in the restaurant really add to the atmosphere and the view. It seemed like every table had at least one seat that was facing the view. The food was great. The lobster club is a homerun take on the classic lobster roll. Filled with tons of sweet lobster meat the bits of salty pancetta included make for nice combination. This sandwich was tested and well thought out and I now see why anybody gets this gives this place a great review. I recommend you do the same. Wife had steak which was cooked as requested and was tasty. We really enjoyed the belgian chocolate cake as well which was half mousse and half cake. The mousse was cake like (dense) and both parts were rich in a good way. Their complimentary rosemary foccacia is a great way to start the meal as well. They validate parking in the garage underneath the building for 5$ up to 3 hours. Awesome deal in the heart of the city. With groupon's always being offered and a lobster club worth going out of your way for, I don't think you can go wrong giving this place a shot. Ate here on a Saturday night before an 8pm show so we were early. I enjoyed the view of the city even though you don't get a skyline shot. It's a view of DTX and the construction of a building going up in that lot across from the Paramount. Our waiter here was Rojario. He was fantastic. Kind and attentive at all the right moments. We had malbec wine and pear martinis which were so very very good. I would go back for a martini in the bar alone. App was polenta fries, a new one for me. They were light and tasty, but a bit boring.. I would not bother with them again. Entrees were filet mignon and the duck entree. The food was very good. I cannot complain. But I have had better. Our table was wobbly. There was a family with small children next to us. I love kids and they were well behaved, but it felt weird to be drinking alcohol with them right next to me. Dessert was choc cherry mousse cake. It was ok. Wish I got the creme brûlée. The bar was filling up and getting lively as we were leaving. The bartender was like a juggler and the drinks were awesome. I thought it was a howl that this place is inside a gym. I was buzzed as we left and taking the elevator with people in gym clothes was a interesting mix. Food was good. Drinks better. View probably best after dark. Prices a bit up there. The bf and I came here on our way to a show last night, and as far as the food was concerned, I was impressed. The service however, left a lot to be desired. We made reservations for 6:00 because the show was at 8:00. It was a little tight, but we usually don't need 2 hours for dinner. When we got to our seats, the restaurant was almost empty, despite there allegedly being a private event going on. The location of the restaurant is a little bizarre given that you have to walk through a cafeteria to get to the dining room. Once inside, the view is amazing, and the room is beautifully appointed. I could do without the PVC faux lizard skin placemats (though they have the side benefit of keeping my silverware on the table in the event of clumsiness). I also wish someone who runs that joint had run the menu through spell-check (you misspelled several things, one of which is "caesar"). Our first waitress was very nice and took our drink order. We told her we were on our way to the theatre, so that the staff knows we're on a time crunch. It took about 15 minutes to get those drinks, and in between that time another waiter literally came over when he saw us looking around and took our order. The pre fixe menu was bizarre in that it was probably the most expensive way to eat dinner there. The drinks were good when we finally got them---one was a jazzed up version of a Shirley Temple, and the other was a strong whiskey-based concoction. The table bread was amazing. It was something akin to focaccia and had salt and pepper crust with a kick of garlic. I typically don't eat the bread, but this was delicious, and the olive oil serving alongside was very good quality. I decided to go with appetizers instead of an entree, and had the polenta fries with truffled fonduta and chives and the duck wings with jalapeño honey and bok choy. The polenta fries were light and delicious. I typically hate polenta in almost every form, and I was surprised I liked these so much. The truffle fonduta unfortunately had broken by the time it got to my table and was so thin I could barely dip the polenta into it. It also made a very light dish feel heavy, which I didn't particularly enjoy. The flavor of the fonduta was good though if a bit on the bland side. I love chives and was disappointed to see them sprinkled as a garnish---I really wish they had been an ingredient in the polenta fries, which would have been fantastic herbed. The duck wings were out of this world. They were all drumsticks, and appeared to be fried (I really wish they had been seared and baked or broiled, but I'll take it) and were juicy and well-seasoned, even a tad on the salty side. The thin sauce on the plate was absolutely delicious and I would have done shots of it had they been offered. The baby bok choy was also probably the best I have ever had in my life. It was perfectly cooked, had tons of flavor, and appeared to have been stir-fried in minced garlic and ginger which was yummy all by itself. The bf got smoked mozzarella sticks with pesto and tomato crema, a caesar salad, and three-cheese ravioli. They were huge and had a really thick breading. The only thing "smoked" about the mozzarella sticks was the large piece of smoked meat inside them, but they were definitely good. The meat was too much for me, but the bf was a huge fan (no surprise there). Also, there was no hint of cream in the tomato sauce---it was just regular old tomato sauce. Both the sauces were delicious though, despite the misnomers. The salad was fabulous. It was the lightest caesar salad I've ever tasted, which I really appreciate. And it was huge. However, is a caesar salad ever worth $15? Probably not. Organic romaine: $1:50; shaved parmesan $1; croutons, $0.20; garlic, $0.20; free-range egg, $0.50; dijon mustard, $0.25; lemon, $0.50; olive oil, $1; anchovy, $1. So...yeah, that's annoying. But if you can get over that, it's a good version. The bf said the ravioli was meh. It came in an amalgamation of sauces, one of which looked a bit like basil cream, and he didn't really touch them. He said they were pretty bland and way too al dente (he's Italian, he should know). We shared dessert, a syrup-soaked tiny chocolate cake base with raspberry mousse on the top and raspberry coulis on the plate. It was good, but really small. And we had to rush through it to get out of the place on time. I made sure the check came at the same time, and despite my mentioning to everyone who waited on us that we were on our way to the theatre, the pre-theatre discount Blu had been advertising was nowhere on my bill. I had to bust out my calculator and make a note on the bill so that I wouldn't have to argue with someone forever. That got worked out fairly quickly though, so it wasn't that big a deal in the end. This is one instance where reviews can be a bit deceptive. A few said the place is hard to find...? its on a street that is adjacent to the Boston Common, we had no issues at all. We valet parked right in front of the building (you validate your ticket at the restaurant and its less than $10, that's a steal to park in Boston). The restaurant is in the same building as the Ritz Carlton, there is a sign in front of the entrance that says "BLU", signs on the elevator on which floor to go, how can you miss that? Once you emerge there is a gym entrance (nice, upscale looking) to your right and a 'food court' looking place (as one reviewer noted) to your left...at first glance you might think that was the restaurant but it is a kind of cafe where you can buy light food, desserts and just chill in the seating/louge area without having to go 'full restaurant' mode. This makes sense because it is in a hotel remember? they will have guests who might just want to grab a bite without the shabang of a 'restaurant'. The restaurant itself is past the little cafe area. We had reservations @7pm on a friday night and were seated right away. The ambience was fantastic and as everyone has already said, the view is awesome. We had asked for a window seat which we got but it seemed to me that just about every seat in the house would still have a great view, kudos to the designers on that. The seating was creative, slick sectional couches for larger parties, or opposite loveseats for 4 ppl, high bar-stool seating at the bar and to the side, or your traditional table and chair for 2. Our waitress was borderline perfect the entire night, kudos to the entire staff for excellent service. The menu had several inventive or creative items, we tried the lamb (gloriously delicious lol), polenta fries (crispy on the outside and yummy inside), crabcake (nice big juicy) with a salad (I forget the name but I devoured it and I don't like salads), sweet potatoe crusted bass (delish!), roasted duck breast, and capped off with the Beligium chocolate cake and a glass of Moscato. Maybe one of the sauces that came with the Polenta was just about the only thing I didn't love. The mashed potatoes that came with my sweet potatoe crusted brazilian bass was the best ever, it was sort of 'whipped' and had a very light, melt in your mouth kind of feel, something not typically associated with your usual heavy cream, drop like a rock in your tummy mashed potatoes. We hung around for ~3hrs and were told to even take our time some more. Everyone around was having a good time, the ambience was simply fantastic. People were dressed nice but not overly formal. The entire place was very classy and upscale without being overbearing or pretentious. I am a BIG fan of Blu, it has just displaced my previously favorite restaurant. It was a perfect evening. We liked Blu!! The view was great, the food was a nice surprise. My steak was actually really good. Both my companion and I were surprised after looking at some of the reviews. We weren't sure what to expect but decided to give it a try! We were going to be seated at the back near a wall but I asked to be seated at the high top tables in the bar, a great choice. The view is fantastic, it overlooks the Washington St theaters and downtown crossing. Ordering the wine and getting the bottle of water took a bit of time. I think the waitress was new. She looked to be running but no where to run to, not allot of people at 630pm on a Saturday night. But we ordered an appetizer, the steak carpaccio. It was rather bland. I asked for a side of balsamic vinegar which did the trick. It was much better. (the chef should have known that..tsk) I ordered the steak. I was done perfectly, the sides were great. My companion ordered the pumpkin raviolis with braised short ribs. He devoured his plate. The wine we ordered we very good. I've learned in Boston and other places, it really does help to know ones wine and ones taste in wines. The waitress could not have helped I'm quite sure. She couldn't answer if the meat was cooked to order or usually under or over cooked. The staff tend to know the kitchen and a good server at a restaurant will let you know. I would have given in 3.5 but there is no 3.5 and I couldn't give it a 3 because we were so nicely surprised. I'm going back! read more

I honestly cannot say enough good things about this restaurant! I came here last Saturday night with my family, we had an 8 o'clock reservation and we were seated right away. We were lucky enough to be seated at a table right by the windows - the view is incredible! Our server was lovely, she came right over to us and introduced herself and brought us bread and water. I'm a sucker for a good white sangria and the one I got here was amazing. The glass it comes in is huge so you're definitely getting your fair share of alcohol and it's truly delicious! We got the lobster dip as an appetizer for the table. It came out steaming hot with about 10 pita chips. Definitely one of the best tasting appetizers I've ever had but I would've loved if it had come with a few more pita chips! However it tasted great by itself too! For my meal I ordered the grilled swordfish which came with asparagus and lobster mashed potatoes. Seriously if I could have this meal every day I probably would because it was that good. I don't know if I've ever eaten a meal so quickly in my life everything was so perfectly cooked and seasoned I couldn't get enough of it. Everyone at the table ordered a different meal and felt the exact same way that I did! After inhaling my meal I passed on the dessert but my parents ordered the chocolate cake and said that they thought it was really good. Overall I really loved this place. Not that I wanted to shoot it, but I really wish that I had a MP5 with me when I came here. Because huge 2 stories high panoramic glass windows made me feel that I was in the set of "Die Hard". And carrying that gun would've made the atmosphere complete. The venue is not on the highest floor or its building doesn't necessarily overlook other buildings, display of downtown skyline is definitely something to rave about. Drinks aren't outrageously overpriced. Market price of beer $5~6/mix drinks $10~15. I can't say what it is usually like as I came to this place for a closed event(hence it wasn't too crowded). But this atmosphere definitely spike up your chance of getting the digits. I did find that girls were friendlier than clattered clubs such as Felt, Gypsy, or any other surrounding clubs. read more

The view alone deserves....OK, the view is pretty nice (if you like higher views of the same old buildings). But the food...is not their strong point. The times I have been here, the food was never spectacular. Flavourless risotto, oily, oily polenta fries sauce. No, just...no Blu. However, their saving grace is most definitely their aforementioned view and their alcohol. Literally, the best sangria I've ever had (made in a bar/restaurant). The fall blend of the sangria is amazing and will have your feather-weight friends hilariously buzzing throughout the rest of the night's events. Otherwise, would I recommend Blu?...Not for the food, no. For the drinks and the view, yeah, sure. But get a bit tipsy before you order any food. I had been here once a couple years ago and had remembered the food being fairly good, but what had really left an impression was the ambience and the view of downtown Boston--that more than the food was what brought me back tonight for "Dine Out Boston" (aka restaurant week). The restaurant week menu was not extensive: there were only 2 choices for appetizer and dessert and 3 choices for entrees. In the end, only one person in our party actually ordered from the restaurant week menu. Dine Out Boston Menu ($33): 1. Stuffed Artichoke Bottoms -- Honestly, this was my first time eating artichoke so there's really not much I can say about this appetizer beyond the facts: it comes with four artichoke "bottoms" stuffed with a mixture of crab meat, spinach, mozzarella cheese, and lemon butter sauce. Let's just say, it didn't have me running to the grocery store to buy some artichokes of my own. But my mom and brother enjoyed it. 2. Grilled Salmon with lobster ravioli -- Aside from my memories of the view, spotting this entree while previewing the menus was one of the contributing factors to us coming here tonight. Sadly, it was just okay. We ordered the salmon medium rare but it came out more like medium well. The tomato sauce was flavorful and had a nice fresh tomato-sourness to it. The ravioli tasted noticeably of its lobster filling but unfortunately, was very undercooked- less than al dente. 3. Divine Fudge Lava Cake -- Definitely fudgey. In fact, it's pretty much the same dense sticky-fudgey texture throughout, with the center being slightly less cooked, but no lava in the middle. Again, just okay. Regular Menu: 1. Atlantic Miso Salmon with golden quinoa, snow peas, carrots, shiitake mushroom, miso vinaigrette ($26) -- Like the salmon above, we ordered this one medium rare and it was medium at best. My main problem with this one is that the fish was so bland. There's a thin watery glaze of miso on top but the flavor just wasn't there. The quinoa and veggies mix was a nice complement and it was overall enjoyable in a light and healthy tasting way, despite being on the under-seasoned side. 2. Slow-Braised Pork Shank Ossobuco with gorgonzola mashed potato, oven-roasted tomato, natural jus ($24) -- This dish is huge. It comes with a large pork shank (definitely larger than my fist and wrist) and true to its "slow-braised" promise, it was indeed tender. However, it was also slightly under seasoned and could stand to have some more "natural jus," which my brother did ask for. He was also not a fan of the gorgonzola mashed potatoes because it was just too rich and creamy for his taste. Overall, the view and ambience were as lovely as I remembered it but the food was just A-OK at best- every dish had something going for it but they all had a big "however" to undermine it as a whole as well. On top of that, the prices are high, the service is not particularly friendly--I probably won't be as tempted to come back next time. read more

Went here before a show purely for convenience of location and because the other restaurant we wanted to go to was packed. Small restaurant on the 4th floor of Equinox building. Friendly and quick service. A few tables have cool views of Washington Street. We ordered the shrimp scampi, bolognese and then lava cake for dessert, all of which were tasty but nothing spectacular. We had a good overall experience, but nothing extraordinary that would necessarily send me back here. I went here with some girlfriends using the Savored discount. The restaurant was a bit hard to find and in an odd location (in the same complex as a health club) but once you got inside, it was beautiful and had a great view of downtown. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. I got the margarita, which was delicious (and a tad strong - just the way I like it). Bread was tasty too. I ordered the pan roasted chicken and it was scrumptious - still moist, great accompaniments, and a good portion size. I think it was a big overpriced for what it was, but worth it with the discount. If I were craving it, I would go back for this dish and pay full price. Why I only gave it 3 stars: Even though we were only one of 3 tables, it still took quite awhile for our drinks/food to come out. Luckily we had the bread. Also, the price for the amount of food you get/the location was a bit steep in my opinion. It would be a fun place to go just for drinks, though. read more

Just ordered two salads costing over $30 because I had been curious to try Blu. We got them to-go because we were in a rush, but didn't realize that the portions were as small as a side salad and not entree. At this point I waited 20 minutes for my order and wanted to eat and not complain on size as I headed home. Upon opening up my Ceasar with Anchovies I noticed not only was the tiny to-go container sparsely filled with salad but they only gave me ONE anchovy. I don't think I've ever seen something that stereotypically embarrassing for a so-called high-end spot in Boston. The other salad was yummy but, again, tiny for an almost $20 seared yellow tuna salad. I had wanted to bring girlfriends here for dinner and drinks one day as it looked cool, but now absolutely not. Don't waste your money on this overpriced spot. Very disappointed - I'm always walking by and was excited to try tonight. read more

Excellent food and a beautiful view of Downtown Boston. My mom and I are both very picky eaters, so it can be very tricky to find a restaurant that suits us both when my parents come to town. However, Blu worked perfectly. I had the Veggie Lovers Vegan Feast: red quinoa, roasted butternut squash, grilled zucchini, sautéed baby kale, black beans, cilantro-sunflower pesto. Pleasing both to sight and to taste. My mom had the free-range chicken, and my dad had the salmon. Both of them were pleased as well. It's easy to miss Blu because it's upstairs in the same building as the Equinox gym, so be attentive when on Avery Street looking for it. You won't be disappointed. read more

Wow. An amazing place for dinner. Have been there twice already this year. Greta view of the Paramount Theater. Waitstaff is cordial, attentive and friendly. All of the dinner courses came at appropriate intervals and we felt like we were at home. Very relaxed atmosphere. Food was amazing. Appetizers were perfect, main course was prepared and served on time. We ate so much that we did not have room for dessert but we ordered and brought the dessert home for later. We had dinner at Blu tonight with another couple before seeing a show at the Opera House. The restaurant is unique and has a great view, but the positives end there. Our waiter was not the friendliest and took a really long time to take our drink order. Then after we received our drinks, we were left sitting with our menus for quite a while before he returned to take our order. The food was mediocre but the worst part is that in the middle of eating our meals we saw a MOUSE scurry across the floor and run back into the kitchen. I was horrified and felt sick to my stomach wondering how many must be in the kitchen if one is in the dining room. We were so disgusted that we paid our bill and left immediately. We tried to alert a manager or the hostess about it on our way out, but couldn't find anyone and then we had a show to catch. I've lived in Boston for many years and have never seen a rodent in a dining area, let alone at an upscale restaurant. Upon searching Blu's Yelp reviews for "rodent" or "mouse", it appears that a few other people have had sightings while dining here as well. Definitely will not be returning to Blu. read more

We live right nearby and it is fabulous to have this place so close. The menu is always being tweaked AND there are items that it is hard not to order over and over again. These include the tapas platter with the most amazing lamb lollipops, or the pork or fish tacos, the pastas, the swordfish, etc. Phil is one of the best bartenders ever and often has interesting new wines available by the glass. It can be pretty full with the theater crowd, but the noise level is well-controlled. We have never been disappointed. read more

Came here on a Thursday evening at around 6:30 with two friends. We ordered the scallop for appetizer,Lobster club,pear spinach and shrimp linguine to share. The bread is really oily and salty. The lobster club is okay,,on the salty side. The shrimp pasta is pretty good but the portion is small(We already expected that) The pear spinach is okay.. Overall I would say the food is just okay..I would expect better quality food for the price. The waiters are very nice. And the service is very slow. read more

If I had the opportunity to give a 3.5 stars, I would due to the service. The food and location (including the view) was wonderful. However, the waiter had 7-8 tables and while experienced was clearly flustered running from table to table. Hopefully, the restaurant uses this to rethink staffing levels and service. The view of the Paramount sign in the background and the modern architecture surrounded by glass was a great setting. We enjoyed appetizers including the Eggplant Napoleon which was a different take on the traditional that was devoured by the table. The fish tacos were simple, fresh and some of the best in the area. The short rib flatbread was equally delicious. The pan seared cod and miso salmon were cooked to perfection, evenly seasoned and super fresh. The other dishes were enjoyed by our friends. I had their Chicken & Quinoa Meatball appetizers, Iron Steak for entree, and I forgot the name of my dessert, but it was a chocolate cake with ice cream. All were very tasty. I went for restaurant week, so the portion may have been smaller, but I was very full by the time I finished the entree. My only complaint was that there wasn't sufficient AC. Also, I felt like the cutlery weren't very clean. Mine felt a tad bit sticky. I'd definitely come back to this restaurant though! read more

View was to die for ! Customer service was really great . Really had a great time here. Would definitely go again but maybe just for apps and drinks . Food was not really good at all . I ordered the duck and I was extremely chewy . Lamb chops was also very tough too and was too well done even though we requested medium . Food have no flavor and taste artificial. The view is good and service ok. There drinks are good and strong if you alcoholic drinks !!!

I use to come here for lunch a few years ago because the prices weren't too steep and it's nice ambience and views of downtown. We decided to come here for a big group dinner because of the location. When I called to make reservations, the host was not very friendly. It felt like I was bothering him and he couldn't wait to get me off the phone. He was borderline rude to be honest. That should have been an indicator of what to expect. When we came for dinner, the views were great at night. We practically the only party there at 7:30 on a Wednesday evening. But the food was less than desirable. I got the bolognese and it was terrible. It's a fairly big portion but size doesn't matter when it's not good. It was in the mid twenties range and for that price I kind of expected better. I only ate two bites of the plate and the waiter saw my plate and didn't ask me how it was. I would only come here for the views. You can get better food and service elsewhere. read more

Went here on a date night with my girlfriend, since we have been here before, we wanted to grab the same plate we got the previous time. We both got the diver sea scallop plate and man, where we disappointed this time around. Not only did they raise the price but also reduced portion size. I felt like I was eating an over priced appetizer. We asked the waiter to see if that was the portion size originally, but man, they are good at making stuff up. Originally he told us that nothing had changed, but when when we told him that we had pictures of our previous time, he went to go ask the manager to tell us that they did reduce portion size... with a $4 price increase..... (even though the manager said that the price was the same)... 2 lies within the same night.... I think this restaurant forgets yelp and google reviews exist and pictures....if this is the new normal for this restaurant, definitely not going back. read more

Attached to the Ritz Carlton Hotel in the Equinox Health Club. I have been here many times over the years and it has always been excellent. Steak or Seafood are my go too's. Waiters have mostly been here for years and are very present and are good for feeling out the right amount of engagement. Active bar seen on Thursday thru Saturday. read more

Absolutely fantastic! We got lucky and got the best table in the restaurant with a direct view of the Paramount and enjoyed a nice quiet meal. The service was attentive and the food excellent. Short ribs with pumpkin ravioli - awesome. My husband had the swordfish and it was the most tender swordfish he ever had, Great wine selection and also dessert! read more

I'm someone that usually offers good reviews and simply doesn't return to places that don't offer a good experience.. So it's extremely rare for me to find myself writing a negative review, especially about Blu. I've dined at Blu once or twice a week for years. Last week we went to Blu without a reservation and approached a couple of seats at a high top against the bar, we were told they were first come first serve. Immediately we were approached by a hostess with an abundance of attitude who informed us that the seats at the bar side high top were reserved. As we walked out, intending to go elsewhere, a server advised us that the two bar seats just a few feet away, at the end of the bar, were open and we could sit there. The real issue is that when we left two hours later the high top where we attempted to sit was still empty and other high tops along the bar were empty as well. I'm not sure if or when I might return to Blu. Dealing with a person who has an abundance of attitude along with a matter of fact attitude is not part of my desired dining experience. Particularly when she walked away without offering other seating options that were clearly available. read more

My friend n I both enjoyed well prepared seafood dishes Saturday night before watching La Sylphide. I appreciate Blu's variety of seafood dishes & tried striped bass with poached egg. No problem substituting a different vegetable- my attractive meal was delicious. My friend's shrimp scampi was a generous portion which she liked. No one rushed us. Service was good. I have eaten at Blu several times, never disappointed. read more

Located on the upper floors in a Ritz Carlton building. It is a relatively high end place, with very expensive prices. I ordered the NY Strip, which was mediocre. The service was excellent, and the view was spectacular. Average and expensive food, so come for the vibe and view. read more

Blu is haute cuisine in spite of itself. The elevator ride up lends a sense of elite secretism, but there's a sad-trombone moment when the door opens to a casual cafe replete with bored looking laptop typers that you must walk through to arrive at the host stand. The second stumble is in choice of typeface- the sign directing you through the cafe is printed in Comic Sans (a good choice for lemonade stands, not classy restaurants), and the menu is printed entirely in Papyrus (almost as overused as Comic Sans, a popular choice for overpriced candle shops and chiropractors trying to exude an air of new age mysticism). Sure, many people don't notice, but many others with a design eye know that these fonts scream "tacky"- it's hard to truly see an establishment as upper echelon when these little details are present. The view was magnificent, a theater district sea of neon with a soft blue wash adding understated intimacy. The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The food, a pasta bolognese, and burger, was above average- the bolognese was packed with zesty flavor and the burger sang with spice. Despite Blu's tripping over its own shoelaces at the start, they finish strong with good takes on classic dishes. Don't go for a truly next level experience- go for a good (albeit pricey) bite before a show, and if you're sensitive to bad font choices, bring a blindfold. read more

Fantastic food and a great view. The service was excellent. The only strange part is exiting the elevator to enter the restaurant. It looks like a banquet hall with the entrance to a gym. Well worth it though. Lobster mashed potatoes may have been the best mashed I've ever had. read more

The ravioli was perhaps the best I've ever had. And the chocolate lava cake was perfect You can't beat the view either!
