Food: the noodle and rice dishes were tasty except the beef and chicken. They were extremely chewy. The shrimp and calamari had a good crunch to them and again, the flavor was there. Service: both ladies were quick to take orders and came to refill our waters a few times. All the dishes came out fairly quickly and they even threw in some free grass jelly desserts. My only gripe is that we had four adults and a toddler and they automatically charged us a 20% party gratuity fee. Normally it is 6+ to be considered a party. So done with this place. It used to be our favorite place but today was the third time we were served with raw crispy garlic chicken! It seems like they don't check the temperature or run some time when they fried it, it came out so raw. I ordered shumai and was never told by the waitress that portion was down to 4 pieces from 6 pieces. DELICIOUS. Thai food with fresh ingredients and unapologetically authentic flavors. They do not try to dumb down the flavors here. Everything is cooked as authentically as it gets. How do I know? I came here three times in three days while in the area for work. Every time I came, I saw a lot of Asians customers and some were ordering in Thai. I got the papaya salad every time I came and it was delicious. I also tried the Tom yum soup, Tom kha soup, larb salad, blue elephant cha cha (fried fish filets), and naked shrimp appetizers. Every dish came out very good and fresh. Vegetables were crispy, fish was fresh and soups were steaming hot. I'd come here again the next time I am in town for work. A bit of a warning: if you cannot take strong flavors or spice-make sure to tell the server when ordering. I saw a couple of ladies screaming at the owner because their papaya salad was too spicy (it had one chili in it), then they threw a fit about about the service because they were not asked how spicy they wanted their food. She was thoughtful about explaining the changes (having both crispy and regular rice noodles in the soup). The soup was on point with a deep complex flavor and all the flavors blended well for a to go order. The crab cakes were big, crispy, and filled with a lot of real crab meat. I have been traveling through this town for numerous years and finally got the opportunity to get a pick up order. I ordered the three curry sampler and chose Red (with shrimp), Green (with vegetables) and Penang (with beef). See pictures. They had the order ready on time, and it was packed in an elegant and appealing black carry out bag (see pictures). So how was the food? So let's go in order. I found the Red curry dilute and it came with 3 slightly overcooked shrimp. The Green curry was my favorite. It had thickness, a body of flavor, and a perfectly cooked assortment of vegetables that were crisp and fresh. The Penang curry was also dilute, had a good amount of beef, albeit with some being chewy. Interestingly, I tasted no peanut in the thin sauce. I usually am the one in my friendship circle that tries restaurants out first. But this little gem has been thrown into many conversations when speaking on great little places that wow! When my husband and I suddenly had a weekend off together, I quickly suggested a little lunch date at The Blue Elephant. After looking over the menu for several minutes I had my choices narrowed down to either the Drunken Noodles, the Pad Thai, or the Blue Elephant Crispy Garlic Chicken. I ended up going with the Pad Thai and the hubs got the Drunken Noodles, both with chicken. Both were great! Hubs and I ate a few bites and then switched up to taste each other's plates. Neither of us could say which was our fave. The Pad Thai was more of a sweet and sour dish with the tamarind sauce mixed into it. The crushed peanuts on the side added a nice flavor to an already awesome dish! The best part of the Drunken Noodles to me were the huge pieces of grilled onions and the big slices of green onions. They made the dish! The hubs shoveled his food down his throat so quickly that he thought about ordering another dish! I had to put a stop to that because I would've had to roll him out of the restaurant. I told him to order a dessert to tide him over hoping he'd order the Mango Sticky Rice, but he got the banana roll with honey instead. My only complaint about the banana roll was it wasn't enough to share! They were slices of bananas wrapped like little envelopes in egg roll wrappers, drizzled with honey and then sprinkled with sesame seeds...absolutely delicious!!! Oh and it also came with coconut ice cream which makes me want to whip up my own at home! My absolute favorite Thai spot in town! Family rarely comes to see me, and on this rare day, I suggested Blue Elephant. We come from a place of ample Thai options, and this place is very much comparable. We got boat noodles, drunken noodle, pad thai, green curry, hainan chicken rice, and mango sticky rice. It quite literally breaks my heart to leave this review. I've faithfully gone here for years. But the quality has been worsening and I can no longer recommend or justify the cost. I always order the Mongolian beef with substituting regular rice for coconut rice. Typically I order from a delivery app. Runs me $24 for the meal. First I noticed they changed the meal to not have straw mushrooms but regular standard mushrooms. Disappointing but I get it that straw mushrooms are much more expensive. Today I ordered and the original containers have been replaced with divided containers. Instead of a full serving of beef and the rice on the side; it is now a half serving of beef and rice in the same container. And the price is the same! Extremely disappointing. I just can't not justify the cost for lower quality food/ half the quantity. The flavor is still there. The mango sticky rice is amazing. And the spring rolls are the lightest crunch I've ever had. Came here on a Saturday, not one person in sight (that should have been an indicator) I proceeded to order anyway. The yellow curry was watered down and had no flavor at all. I think if they would have nuked it in the microwave for 30 seconds it would have been better than what I was served. None of the hot items were hot, it was room temp at best.
