A must stop when visiting EastBay Rhode Island. All freshly prepared and locally sourced ingredients made daily. Bakery items are all homemade which is unique as many bakeries use frozen products. They have homemade gluten free products as well which are out of the world. The prepared meals are always revolving and honestly so quick and convenient - and good. Coffees a huge hit- they have a Boomerang specialty coffee which will keep you awake and focused. Great selection of drinks, sandwiches, salads, etc. Staff thats happy and attentive. Lovely cafe and sandwich place totally worth a visit that is not a national chain! This coffee and sandwich shop has a friendly and comfortable setting. There are tons of made to order wraps, sandwiches and salads and a full coffee bar. Great for breakfast or lunch. My chopped Italian salad and high quality salami and prosciutto along with added chicken that was moist and well seasoned. Salads are made by their high quality ingredients and this one cleared the bar for sure. My husbands sandwich was also wonderful with fresh bread and high quality meat and cheese. This is what subway dreams it could become! And for about the same price! They are well staffed with friendly professionals who are happy and engaged. The music is my only minor quibble (unremarkable Pop with word)... maybe classic rock or even jazz would be a better fit. Food the way I'd make it myself in a comfortable location. I've seen multiple mixed reviews on this cafe and decided I had to try it for myself. I ordered the #4 breakfast sandwich which comes on a bagel with ham, maple bacon, sausage, and cheddar cheese. I ordered and in less than 5 minutes my food was out- something I appreciated. The food itself was delicious and the only complaint I have is that it was a bit overpriced for what I got. I ordered the breakfast sandwich along with a coffee and the total was $12. Of course, take into consideration this is a cafe in Barrington so prices will be on the high end. Lastly, placing your order/waiting to pick it up/where to dispose of your food is quiet confusing. If you don't mind the price or having to ask other customers where things are, then try this place out!! read more

What is love, you ask? It's your husband getting you a #BestDonutsRI gift set as one of your Christmas presents. The set includes twelve free donut vouchers, each at a different donut-making establishment. It's called love, people. So we went here yesterday and - to both our surprise and dismay - BKC only had two donuts left. It was after 12p, so it was bound to be expected. That was the dismay. The surprise was two fold. The donuts left were of the Maple-Glazed Pumpkin variety. So we got 'em, and savored every delicious bite. And we got coffees too - also great. But the donuts, yes, they were perfectly delicious. Made with love, for sure. The other surprise: I'm writing this review in February. And the donuts - Maple-Glazed Pumpkin - were Blue Kangaroo Cafe's only donut. Pumpkin! I love this place. I wish it was closer to my work, and I would be there at lunch and in the morning daily. The coffee and the cookies come first. Coffee is always on point. Cookies are amazing. The oatmeal cookie is the best I've ever had. They also have gluten free options for customers with dietary restrictions and even those are super tasty. I am addicted. They also serve lunch - sandwiches, smoothies etc. It is not just coffee and pastries kind of shop. Quality establishment. The service is a hit or miss. Some days when I go in the staff is amazing, then you get few new faces another day that are pretttttty rough around the edges. I think they are just busy most of the time and get cranky. I like this place, especially the name. This is my go-to place whenever I am in Barrington. Whenever I go, I order the lobster roll which is really good. The staff are friendly and the service is quick. It kind of has a deli atmosphere so I recommend either getting your food to go, or eating outside. I don't particularly enjoy the loud, crowded indoor seating very much. Whenever I go with someone else, they usually order one of the sandwiches which I hear are quite good. There's a lot of options. Definitely give the Blue Kangaroo a try. read more

I have celiac disease (highly allergic to gluten) and usually never have a problem with the gluten free items here, but the last two times I got a GF muffin there, I got sick. I shrugged it off the first time, thinking I should've asked if the coffee syrups were malted, and the that it was my mistake for not asking. But it has happened again after a muffin. I know I wasn't given a wheat flour muffin by mistake (that would make me very very sick right away) but it was definitely contaminated and not made in a dedicated area. Please...if it's being made on the same surfaces as flour goods, it's safe for gluten-free trend-followers, but not for people with real allergies. read more

Disappointed today. Showed up today around 1240 with 4 people ahead of me and line not moving for several minutes. I turn my head as I see a lady walk in and go to the cashier (woman with blond hair) and I pay attention to what they were discussing. The cashier woman takes the ladies food order and tells her I will put your order ahead so you don't have to wait in line. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! I am holding my 3 yr old in line waiting and waiting and you do this in front of me?? This is shameful and unprofessional on so many levels. My donut crew and I cleared out Blue Kangaroo Cafe of their donuts. Unfortunately, they only had two kinds, pumpkin and gluten free pumpkin. I'm not sure if they normally have more or if we just came at the wrong time. But despite being turned off by the flavor pumpkin and the words "gluten free," the donuts exceeded my expectations. The donut dough reminded me of pumpkin bread. It was dense and cake-like. The vanilla icing complimented the base very well and overall, it was a delicious pastry. It would have been even better heated up. So, it didn't really taste like a donut, but if they call it a donut, I'm sold. read more

Stopped in really quick and was definitely pleased. It was early Saturday morning and the place was surprisingly super busy. The service was really fast and those working were nice. I didn't have any of the problems mentioned in other reviews. I got an asiago bagel with egg and bacon. The bagel was good and thick. A mixture of thick and chewy if you're into that. The egg was fine and the bacon was crisp and sans fat which made me very happy. $5 for a sandwich is kind of steep especially since i ate it in no joke 4 minutes. I emailed an order request for a dozen gluten free pink velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting through the cafe website and received an email that said the baker would be giving me a call. The baker did not give me a call, just someone to officially take my order. I called the order in over a month in advance. The woman was very polite over the phone, asked what the event was (fashion blogger 30th bday party) and said they would put a special fondant high heel on one of the cupcakes. Great! She said someone would be calling me with a cost estimate later on that week. No one called me. A week before pick up I called for an estimate. Took them awhile to find my order which was entered in as 12 dozen cupcakes and not the simple dozen I ordered. "Good thing you called!" The order was read back to me and the estimate was given. I asked if I could pick them up at 4 on Saturday, they said no problem. Saturday came. I called in the morning to check on the order. Took awhile for them to find the order but eventually found them. They were already prepared. I said I would pick them up at 4 as I previously requested. The man on the phone said they closed at 4 and it would have to be sooner. They should have told me that the previous week when I called and made the 4pm pick up request. No one mentioned they closed at 4 and I didn't think to check because I figured if the time was bad they would have said something. I scrambler over there--counter person is pretty clueless. Eventually he retrieves my order, half of the cupcakes are on their sides. Some of them are pink while others are not. The "birthday" cupcake is a complete mess and totally misshapen. The fondant high heel is three separate misshapen pieces of fondant cut into triangles? and placed on the cupcake. Made absolutely no sense. He gives me the box. I open it to fix the cupcakes that had fallen on their sides, smashing the frosting, and he says nothing. Passive aggressive on my part but I had no time to complain in person. Cost was decent for a special request. $34. Taste was good--way too much frosting but it was also very good. Presentation and customer service left a lot to be desired. I would probably try another bakery next time. read more

I ordered several foods yesterday including a strawberry chocolate latte with skim, a quinoa salad and a Mediterranean salad. Not sure what was the offending agent but suspect the tossed Greek salad. The vinaigrette container was placed right in the salad. I didn't think anything if it until within an hour of eating it, I became violently ill from food poisoning. Not returning even despite the enticement of a free order 'on the manager.' And I spent $30. This place should be marked as illegal... For how awesome it is! Seriously, I've never had a better breakfast sandwich in my LIFE. The portions are HUUUUGE. Which ever meat cut you choose is proportionate to the sandwich and not just a topping. The meats themselves are flavorful and different from what most places are serving. Maple anything is the way to go. (Pro-tip ask for some cream cheese smear inside and thank me later) Also get crazy with the pastry and specials case, as you'll see truly unique flavor combinations! I haven't had one of these fabled cinnamon rolls as I don't arrive early enough, but one day I'll claim that prize. (PS any place that has nitro coffee is better than whatever you thought better was.) The crazy thing is this place is always SLAMMED when I go. Yet they get through that line and have your food and drink out to you lickity split. My only gripe with the place is that the seating area is too small and/or packed to enjoy, but I'm not really going to complain about a place being successful. Since we moved to Barrington we have been coming to the BK quite a bit. We learned the secret that they only serve and make the glorious cinnamon rolls on Saturday and Sunday. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating. I had an instance once with an employee that I hadn't dealt with in the past where they had made a mistake on a previous order and promised a replacement the next time. When I arrive during the next visit I told the new person that I had the previous issue and she didn't know me. She went and spoke to the usual young man that makes sandwiches and he vouched for me saying that he recognized me and remembered the issue. These people are always extremely friendly and put out an exceptional product! If you live nearby I highly recommend a trip on the weekends for the cinnamon rolls! read more
