Saturday night I was expecting overflow parking and was surprised to a mostly empty lot, more surprising was only two tables had diners. What happened to this once very busy restaurant? The positive, the waitress was welcoming, friendly and helpful. Things started fine, Oysters were good, and the Mussels in Red Sauce were very tasty. Now the main courses: New England Broiled Combination was under seasoned including a dried out stuffed Flounder fillet, 3 very small overcooked shrimp, a baked clam, a few small scallops (not overcooked) and roasted potato pieces. Under seasoned, overcooked and tasteless. Two orders of stuffed Scallops on Risotto, each order had 3 Scallops on a tasty risotto but at $48 and only 3 scallops it lacked WOW. The Bill: menu states the credit card charge but it was strange that each item had the extra charge which meant the sales tax was on the surcharge too. Two Apps, Four entrees, Three desserts, Three coffees Total with Tip $370. It is a BYOB the price did not fit the dinner. Now I know why the restaurant was empty. read more

We made a reservation since we came here for a friend's birthday celebration. We were seated immediately. There is small parking lot in the back of the restaurant. It is easy to missed the sign to the entrance of the parking lot. The restaurant is very cozy. All the seafoods were fresh, tasty, and well seasoned. The rice on the paella was a bit too wet. I had to come back to update for the wonderful service received from Francisco and Rosie. They took it a step further by accommodating my cousin's birthday with birthday music over the speaker (we closed out the place lol).. and just their warmth and attention.. I know that we were the only thing standing in between them and the end of their day, so it was appreciated. Oh and the food.... awesome as usual. We got married last Saturday and ordered food from this restaurant. Unfortunately, this ended up being the only part of our wedding that we regret. The last two tables that were called to eat had very limited food options left, and to make matters worse, no compensation was offered. Please see below for more details. I'm writing to express how disappointed we were with the catering service provided last Saturday. When we spoke beforehand, you clearly told me that the trays would be "full to the brim." Unfortunately, that was not the case. When the food arrived, several trays were noticeably underfilled. The trays of potatoes were so low you could actually see the bottom -- and for something that should have been one of the heaviest and fullest trays, that was unacceptable. The penne tray was barely halfway filled, and the chicken Francese wasn't much better. The only tray that seemed properly filled was the linguine. What made this even more frustrating is that potatoes and penne are not expensive items to prepare, so there's really no reason those trays should have been skimped on. We were told to expect full trays, and that promise simply wasn't honored. We were extremely disappointed--not only with the portions but with the lack of honesty and communication. We trusted your word, and what was delivered did not match what was promised. This experience was both frustrating and embarrassing given that we relied on your assurances for our event. This place was one of our local favorites but sadly, not anymore. The temp wasn't cool enough and it was empty at peak time on Friday night. Now I know why. It has been a couple years since our last visit to this restaurant and what a decline. One thing we could always count on was fresh fish. Tonight the fried calamari was clearly from a frozen bag with little taste. My niece ordered salmon that looked good but smelled so bad she could not eat it. The roasted potatoes unfortunately had no taste at all, not even salted. Finally, the stuffed flounder was bland and the crabmeat filling was disappointing, no taste and lacked a crabmeat texture. I like to support local businesses. I don't know what happened here but we won't be back. What I will say is the server was delightful! She is the reason we just paid the check without complaining. I went for lunch with a friend recently. I had the pan seared scallops and they were stringy. Only a couple of them were edible. The roasted potatoes were bland and did not seem to be seasoned at all, not even with salt. My friend had the PEI mussels appetizer and said they did not taste as good as she remembered from the last time she was there. We were both dissapointed with the food taste and quality. read more

My Manhattan clam chowder had no clams. My New England broil dish was nice sized, but was not at all fresh. The shrimp were not fresh. The scallops were under cooked. The flounder was cold and the crab stuffing had no taste. Everything was covered with bread crumbs. The octopus was feh and my wife's tuna was over cooked. Fantastic fresh seafood. The lobster roll was delicious, calamari perfect. The Paella was amazing - a heavenly mix of fresh mussel, clam, scallop, lobster, shrimp over a bed of garlicky rice, yummy! We finished it with a flawless crème bur-lee. A homely place with great & friendly service. A bit loud & congested on weekends, just wish it was a little more spacious. Calamari was PERFECTO, reminded me that calamari is my favorite appetizer of all time across the board. Shrimp scampi was exactly the degree of scampiness you wanted. Swordfish was tender, hearty, and juicy.The only qualm I have food-wise is that they don't offer the ability to swap sides. The swordfish would've HIT with the saffron rice and asparagus. Stellar service. The individual working the floor was awesome -- such excellent, warm energy. Always smiled, made the diners feel cared about. Bathrooms were of stupendous caliber. Get: The Stuffed Scallops and Chilean Seabass and Calamari I've been meaning to check out Blue Water Seafood for a while and it didn't disappoint! This place has great quality seafood for a restaurant that is not located near a coastal town. I also appreciated their menu selections, it's one page back and front of amazing dishes and I had a hard time choosing what to order. In the end, I got the stuffed scallops based on my waitress, Rosie's suggestion, and it was delicious! It came with 3 stuffed scallops with crab on top over a bed of lobster risotto with truffle oil. What's not to love?! My friend got the Chilean seabass and I got to taste it and that is definitely what I am going to get next time I come. it's pretty special. Overall, I had a lovely experience. I came here a couple of nights when I was in town for business. I got the seafood diabolo (I think it was) the first night. The seafood was fantastic and the tomato-based sauce was good, but a bit bland. I've had better pasta elsewhere. The second night I had the surf and turf. The lobster was overcooked and the steak, which should have been medium rare, was overcooked too. The service was good though, and the weather was nice enough to sit outside. Easy to miss kind of place that looks to be a hidden gem (it's very nondescript) this place looked promising. Nice decor and full menu with many interesting options. However, during a Saturday lunch time it was almost empty and it took server at least 15 min just to bring out the bread. Not sure if they just opened at 1:15pm but sure felt like it...? I ordered flounder and my friend ordered salmon, both under specialities section. Flounder was moist but crab cake was a bit too creamy. Veggie medley was a bit undercooked but potato was delicious. My friend didn't say much about her salmon but didn't finish her plate so I think that is an answer. Bathroom was a bit ... oldish/dingy and smelled like urine. For a restaurant that's on the high-end, I would expect it to have better than that. I'd recommend some renovation. I think they are alright and would try again but wouldn't go out of way for it. read more

This is an update to my 5 star review of a year ago. I just had a birthday celebration dinner at Blue Water Seafood. We ordered the grilled octopus as an appetizer and It was perfection on a plate. i would estimate about 1 in 6 higher end restaurants know how to prepare, marinate and grill octopus so it isn't rubbery or gelatinous. Kudos to the chef at Blue Water Seafood, as the meaty segments almost melted in my mouth, yet retained a most pleasing chewiness. Came here for the first time this weekend. You would easily pass it if you didn't know it was there. I think the owner should invest some money into some nice landscaping and uplighting to draw more attention from the highway. Apps were very good. Had the lobster bisque and lobster Mac and cheese. Entrees were okay. We had the stuffed scallops which was very good. And the paella which was pretty overpriced for what you get. The clams were completely overcooked and super rubbery. Chef probably cooked everything together which is not acceptable for that plate price. Dressrrts were pretty bad. Worst part of the meal. Had the creme brulee which was a nice portion but looked like it was just thrown in the oven. The sugar was not caramelized at all on top. And the peanut butter chocolate bomb which tasted like something that came out of ShopRite. It was really gross and again extremely overpriced. The owner and two waitresses which I think was his wife and staff, were very overwhelmed. Could not keep up with the tables. Service was suboar. Barely came back to fill out glasses or ask if we needed anything. The place is BYOB btw. Overall it was an okay experience. I would definitely check out those apps and stay away from the paella and broiled dishes as it seems they cook all the shellfish together in a big pot which ruined the whole dish. And especially stay away from the dessert menu. Owner, check out Restaurant Depot for some premade dessert ideas. Definitely better than wherever you got those desserts from. We were excited to go here based on recent reviews. We love great seafood. Unfortunately, this was not good seafood. Although the prices were on par for a 4-star restaurant, it did not live up to its promise. All four of our main dishes were terrible. Food was not fresh, overcooked, and lacked any flavor. Also, the service was terrible. They never offered to refill the drinks, did not clear the dishes off the table, we had to ask for bread and when it came out, it was hard, and they never came and checked on us. Red Lobster would have been a huge step up. We were there on a Saturday night at 6:30 pm so it should have been packed. By 7, it was just us and two other tables. I can't see this place being in business much longer, especially based on our experience. It's a shame as I had such high hopes for this place. read more

We haven't been to a blue Water since the pandemic started. We made a reservation tonight for a belated Valentines dinner. Everything was exceptional. Our server Rosie was excellent. Very friendly and answered all our questions. The coconut shrimp was very good. The clams casino were outrageous. My wife had scallops with crab meat & lobster risotto. I had my favorite, the seafood fra diavolo. Both dishes were excellent. For dessert we had the chocolate lava cake which is to die for. Not the same as it once was. The food was awful. The Calamari was soaked in oil. The shrimp in the shrimp scampi wasn't cleaned -see the picture included. The Chilean Sea Bass had no flavor and didn't taste like Chilean Sea Bass. Very disappointed.. the quality of the seafood was not what it use to be at this place. We ordered mussels in white wine garlic sauce and it looked like sand and had really no taste.. the mussels were not cleaned. Some didn't even open.. ordered a dozen oysters and they were very small for $3.75 each.. and you use to have a choice on which ones you wanted to have.. now it was just one type of oyster.. and creamy Italian dressing.. I stead of mignonette for the oysters.. that was horrible. we also ordered the prime ribeye steak.. it was very thin.. don't think that was a 16oz steak.. for some reason I didn't get a picture of it.. but trust me.. it was thin.. the server was very nice Frank.. he was very understanding. Blue point oysters were terrible! Ordered a dozen, left half on the plate. Wife had sea bass, cooked well but was bland and plating was non existent for $43. I had the stuffed scallops and they were over cooked like rubber. Could wait to get the check. We have come here many times, but this was the last. A great surf 'n' turf restaurant for special occasions (date night). This restaurant is located right off the highway. The structure is unique - looks like a house converted into a restaurant. Valet parking (FREE) was mandatory which is great due to the size of the lot. Once we walked in, there's a more elevated vibe. Be warned of the hustle and bustle by the receptionist area during busy hours. The dining area is very dark, we used the tea light candles and our phones to see the menu. Just a bit brighter would help. However the ambiance was absolutely NICE & TRENDY. In a large group setting, the acoustics aren't great so it could get very loud. I LOVE that this restaurant is BYOB - so bring your favorite bottle of wine. This place has gotten very popular, I would highly recommend making reservations. CHILEAN SEA BASS - *RECOMMENDED - Fresh, cooked flawlessly (not dry or over seasoned). I dove right into it! Plating & portion was perfect. It was so delicious that I wanted MORE after I was done. SPECIAL RIB-EYE STEAK - *RECOMMENDED - Portion was huge, temp perfectly done as requested and very well-seasoned (mesquite flavor). We had our triple date and the atmosphere, service & food was IMPECCABLE! With our other dining experience - we had a large party. Our steaks were not served as intended (cold and temp not to our order) HOWEVER the server was able to accommodate and quickly rectified the situation. I wouldn't go here again. I got a dinner with scallops and they tasted like ammonia. The staff was awful. They acted like I was lying. I understand that happens sometimes with seafood and isn't the restaurants fault but they refused to take my entire dinner off they bill because it was "only" the scallops. read more

I'm on the seafood diet...I see food. And then I eat it. Blue Water is a very fitting pick for this diet. I was visiting my parents and they left me in charge of making dinner plans. I had a hankering for some seafood and didn't feel like making the trip down towards the shore. Blue Water was the obvious choice. It's a stones throw away from my parent's house and has got some of the freshest and tastiest seafood around. Plus, it's BYOB - hurrah! I'm an absolute sucker for BYOB. Yes, there are some great spots by the beach but there's no need to travel with Blue Water right around the corner. I hadn't been inside since the ownership changed and I'll admit, I was a bit disappointed by the new interior. The previous decor was authentic and reminiscent of an old fish market. There was a fresh fish counter and a large wooden board up with daily specials. It all felt very rustic, like something that you would find in an old historic fishing town and not East Brunswick. The new Blue Water is straight up classy, with fancy place settings and gold and silver curtains. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with some class... it just doesn't have the same old world feel. Although there was a dramatic shift in the decor, I was pleased to discover that the quality and selection of food had not changed. We started off with our go to app selection- fried calamari in a honey soy glaze with a sweet dipping sauce. This is not on their main menu, but it's on the daily specials menu whenever I come. It was a bit too sweet for my linking this time. Calamari for dessert anyone? The menu is huge and I had a really tough time choosing. They have a double sided specials sheet in addition to their standard menu. I was torn between a scallop and risotto combo or a shrimp scampi of sorts. I ended up going with a dish that had jumbo shrimp, roasted tomatoes, shiitake mushrooms and artichoke pieces served over jasmine rice in a garlic white wine sauce. The sauce was rich and flavorful and this scampi was not skimpy- lots of shrimps uppin' there. The roasted whole pieces of garlic were a really nice touch. Other entrees at the table included a grilled swordfish with mounds of crispy fried onions on top, seared ahi tuna with an asian veggie stir-fry and a broiled shrimp and scallop combo with julienned veggies and roasted potatoes. We all left full and happy. The food here is phenomenal and so is the presentation. Every entree is plated so beautifully that it makes me want to whip out my phone and go instagram crazy. I've never been to a restaurant where you are greeted by the host by telling you how quickly he wants to see you leave. Not the first time, either. Why are we told the kitchen closes at 8 when all the websites say 9? This happens time and again. Apparently no one wants to work or they don't want your business? Instead, we took our business to another seafood restaurant in a neighboring town where we felt welcomed and relaxed. We were 10 year patrons of this establishment but it changed owners or management and has not been the same since. Real bacon and very tasty. I was glad I didn't have to share them. Perfect size makes a big difference. When my corn and mushroom risotto with seared scallops came out, I was went in. Risotto was creamy and rich in flavor perfectly made. Every bite was like the very first. Scallops were amazing seared to perfection. Portion size was perfect. I didn't even hesitate on dessert. I knew exactly what I was ordering after studying the menu before arriving. Cream brûlée was so damn good. I had asked for several spins so my table can taste it. But eventually I ate it all.
