Just came in from what used to be our favorite little restaurant. So dissapointed. We have been eating there since they first opened. The food was always exceptional. However, it has become a pretty unfriendly place to eat, but the food was still very good. Tonight, we had a very friendly server, Tabby. That's where it ended. We sat outside on the patio. The sun was very hot and the other diners were complaining too. I asked Tabby to pull the shades down. The owner came out, looking very angry, pulled the shades down. We all said thank you and she did not respond and went back into the restaurant. It went downhill from there. We ordered the shrimp tempura for the appetizer. My husband ordered the vegetarian ramen and a suchi roll. I ordered the softshelled crab sandwich. The ramen came out first, then the sushi and last the softshelled crab. No appetizer. The ramen was good. The crab was inedible, Over breaded and over cooked. Hard and dry. No taste of the crab. The appetizer came out after the entres. The shrimp appeared to be processed. It did not look like shrimp, did not taste like shrimp. When I sent the crab back, I expected the owner to come out and ask what the problem was. She never came out. The server came over while my husband was eating his sushi and asked if we wanted the check. HE WAS STILL EATING. MY FOOD HAD BEEN SENT BACK!!! I am so done. Never agan. read more

This place has Japanese Curry that is almost a dead ringer for the stuff served at CoCo's Curry in Japan. Anyone who has been stationed overseas there knows how awesome a find like this is. Go give it a try! These people are fantastic as well. read more

I've quickly become a regular here. The spicy ramen is excellent and I can't recommend it more. I've had it several times in house and to go. The sushi and other more transnational American dishes are also worthy of trying although I can never muster the courage to deviate from the excellent ramen...not because I lack variety but instead because it's so delicious! This is a textbook "Don't judge a book by it's cover" restaurant. I had seen the numerous 4+ star reviews and yet was still hesitant to visit because of the size of the restaurant (tiny), location (basically in Brandermill) and I couldn't understand how the sign correlated with the Asian dishes on the menu (it just reminded me of a traditional waterfront seafood restaurant). So, for many months, I stayed away. Jokes on me! This place is a hidden gem that left me full, happy and with expectations fully met. The restaurant is very small and it seemed to be a 2 person operation (1 server, 1 cook). The server was super friendly despite rushing around serving a full restaurant (probably 20-30 people). Honestly, she could not have been more pleasant especially under a time of stress. My husband and I started with a sushi roll as an appetizer..the "Red Bull" it was delicious & spicy. My husband ordered the soft-shell crab quesadilla and it was so so good...I'm lucky he let me steal a few bites. I ordered the Mabo Ramen which is a spicy Shoyu ramen with ground pork (I thought that would be strange but it wasn't!) and had leftovers for lunch the next day. We finished the meal with the Green Tea Cheesecake which was a small portion but SO freaking good. I'd never had that before and now it's all I can think about. Nice change! Wanted to try something different in the area, so we trusted our fellow Yelpers and were not disappointed. You can call it a "hole in the wall" or intimate". Tucked away, right off of Hull Street, near Brandermill, Bluefish Grill is clean, comfortable and friendly. You know there is confidence in the chef when they preparing and cooking in clear view. Nice variety on the menu. Seems to be family owned and take a lot of pride in their restaurant. We gave my husband a hard time because he ordered a hamburger, so much for something different. It appeared incredibly lean and he said it was the best burger he had eaten in years! My son and I enjoyed some more traditional asian dishes and were impressed with the fresh ingredients and taste, so yummy! Appears to be popular take out location. Best new restaurant in Midlothian which puts it in the running for best altogether. Not only do they have great ramen and sushi, but the fried fish is incredible. Must try. Do the green tea cheesecake. Worth the calories. Edit: Next time I go by there I'll grab a menu and post it. Specials are always changing. I'd give it $$ as far as prices. This is my new go-to place when I am in the mood for a sandwich or ramen. The mabo ramen is a spicy pork ramen that is absolutely fantastic...and will definitely clear up any sinus issue you may have. The Pork Explosion sandwich with fries is amazing. I first picked this up as a to-go item and ate it in the car while listening to a work call. A savory pork with an Asian inspired slaw. It was ridiculously good. The food here is insanely good. The couple that run the place are also extremely nice. The last time I came here the chef showed me the whole salmon he had ordered and how he had done research to find the best fish; it was indeed a beautiful fish. I've been twice so far and plan to always return when I'm in the area. Both times I got sashimi and it was the freshest and tastiest fish I've had in Richmond. The wasabi was also real wasabi and not the powdered kind, which I haven't seen anywhere else in Richmond. We also ordered the seaweed salad which was so good that we ordered more! I am so glad we discovered this little place. I've not had ramen since I visited family in NY and didn't know we have a place to get it here in the RVA area. It was so deliciously spicy! I wish it wasn't so far away from where I live. They also have sushi and sandwiches. Don't forget the strange and delicious Japanese ice cream blobs - there is a name for them, Mochi I think, but who cares! They were gone in a flash. FYI the fried ice cream is HUGE so plan accordingly. It's big enough to get an entire family all sugared up. I am so pleased that this new restaurant opened near my neighborhood in Brandermill ! It is in our little Market Square shopping area at the corner of Hull and Old Hundred near the PO. They are also adding sushi which I just tried and was great but if you like Asian cuisine that is not just copying all the other Asian restaurants , give this a try. I think a lot of people will think by the name people will think it is a deli but it is really an innovative Asian style restaurant. I had the Cha Shu Rice Bowl and loved it ! What I liked was the sauce - eel sauce - rather than salty soy sauce. Don't let the Deli in the name throw you. It is really an excellent fast food alternative with an Asian flavor ! read more

Fortuitously found this place while dropping off a letter at the post office nearby. SO glad I did. In business for only a week, so the menu is pretty simple...but wow, great mix of sandwiches and Asian selections. It was very hard to resist trying a rice bowl or ramen, but decided to play it safe and go with a philly cheese steak. YUM. Just some onions, mushrooms, and surprise! A fried egg on top! Oh yeah and the steak was so tasty, moist, and just the right amount. An excellent take on an old standby. The couple who seemed to be the owners made a good team, and the owner/waitress was very nice and answered all my questions. She brought me a sample of new crab soup. It was so good I bought a take out bowl to have tomorrow. Place is simply situated in a strip mall kind of setting. Clean but sparse interior, only 5 tables or so, looks like they expect lots of take out business. Highly recommended place and should only get better and better. Went for lunch. Varied menu with lots of choices. Sushi, seafood, roast beef sandwich and pork belly all made fresh to order. We had a flounder sandwich and salad for $11.99 and a soft she'll crab sandwich with fries for $12.99. Both sandwiches had a sweet Cole slaw on a toasted ciobata roll. The meculun salad had a ranch Wasabi dressing that was wonderful. Definitely a well added resterant in the area. They do not have an ABC license yet. But we can expect a Japanese influence with Sake's and beers. I hope they try to serve so VA beverages and wines. It looks like the resterant is owned and run by the cook (husband) and wait (wide) staff. The wife was really nice and helpful. read more

I've been living in the area for about 9 months and just now found this spot. I wasn't really sure what to expect but we decided to try it out instead of heading downtown to one of our usual spots. I had no idea that this spot had so much variety and AUTHENTIC Japanese cuisine. When we entered my wife and I were greeted promptly by a very polite server. I was impressed with how clean the place was and the great service. Even better was the food! The menu had several traditional Japanese dishes, along with sushi, asian-fusion, and american style items. They really have something for everyone. I got a seaweed salad for a starter and my wife got a lobster bisque. The seaweed salad was out of this world and was the best I have ever had. The presentation was incredible and was very refreshing. For our entrees my wife got 2 sushi rolls and I got the Ramen. I am a bit of a ramen connoisseur so I was a little hesitant at first. But once again I was blown away at the presentation and flavor. The sushi rolls were out of this world too. The presentation was beautiful and the portion was really big. After our meal the owner stopped by our table and asked us how we liked our food. He was able to tell us about how he prepares the food and the amount of time and effort it takes him to make the dishes and many of the ingredients. This place was definitely worth ever cent I paid. I will be going back for sure! I honestly can't wait to try all the different ramen noodle's soups as well as some of the sandwiches on the menu. Thank you Bluefish Grill for the great experience! The owners were there and the woman was very sweet to talk to. The prices are very reasonable... Great bang for your buck! I hope they do well and stick around. We'll definitely be back. Excellent, small, family-owned restaurant with a BIG menu! The sushi was AMAZING. Someone pointed out there is now no need to travel to the city for good sushi and they are correct! I love the location and it is a spot we will frequent more often. The decor is really cool, almost like a beach or lake house theme to go along with the feel of Brandermill. No complaints.
