A bit of synchronicity. I was up very late last night when I decided about 1 AM to post happy birthday to Bob Marley explaining how Marley has intersected my families life. I had to go to court in the morning and then go see a client in Santa Monica. Afterward as it was still early and I hadn't eaten breakfast, I checked Yelp for an interesting gluten-free breakfast place. Up popped Bluey's Kitchen in SM. What inspired me to go to this cool small indoor and outdoor cafe with GF and vegan fare, was to try the Sweet squash pancakes - Summer squash, served with sweet avocado, mint, homemade GF granola and berries with shredded coconut. I ordered my breakfast at the counter with a chai latte and spoke a bit to the cashier. He was intrigued as I was taking photographs of the very interesting interior laced with art and surfboards. I explained that I was celiac and I love to do photography and now write reviews as an elite reviewer on Yelp. I sat at a communal table and when my chai arrived, the owner, a very pregnant Sabrina came over to talk to me. Turns out she and her husband also are reviving an old restaurant in Venice and she used to live on the street I grew up on, Beethoven Street. I told Sabrina what I ordered and why and she said that the sweet avocado was what made it special. She walked in the kitchen and brought me a piece of GF banana bread to try later. A server brought me the most beautiful pancakes I have ever seen. He watched as I took 4-5 pictures of this dish before I delved in only to delight in the fact that the summer squash pancakes, sweet avocado with the crunchy granola, berries and coconut was ridiculously good. I was halfway through when the server brought out a young man from the kitchen who didn't speak English. The server/runner told me that he created and designed my dish and I told him in my limited Spanish how beautiful and delicious it was. He beamed with pride as he should. The pancakes were not so dense so I ate every morsel of it. I took what was left in my large latte and banana bread and went outside and what do I see- a large painting of Bob Marley on the wall along the row of tables (the only picture in fact). Of all the gin joints on Bob Marley's bday, I get to sit looking at a beautiful painting of him in a restaurant owned by a couple who live in Venice on the same block as I grew up on. This was meant to be and the reason I came to Bluey's Kitchen, the pancakes, were better than I could have ever imagined. read more

Love blueys!! The vibe here is great & they have the best breakfast/lunch options. It's an order & then find a table kind of place, and it gets pretty busy on the weekends so I'd recommend getting there on the earlier side on a saturday or sunday, or just be prepared to wait a little (the wait is worth it!) My usual blueys order is an iced matcha latte & a breakfast burrito with american cheese and bacon. This is one of my favorite breakfast burritos in LA. It's not too greasy and comes with a super flavorful salsa that has a kick to it. The matchas always hit the spot too! In addition to their yummy breakfast & lunch options, they have the cutest store with blueys merch as well as local vendors. I have some of my most favorite masks from that little store. Ordered a takeout pancake breakfast for Pancake Tuesday aka Shrove Tuesday aka Mardi Gras. Overall pretty good but nothing to write home about. Docked the rating a bit because I specially requested utensils in my order preferences and didn't receive any. 4/5 Sweet Squash Pancakes: Really delicious and filling. These pancakes came with a side of berries, granola, syrup, and a sweet avocado mash. The sweet avocado mash was such an interesting take on breakfast. I really enjoyed the texture of the pancakes as well. I couldn't tell that they were squash based and gluten free etc. the granola was excessive. I feel like this dish needed something else to bind all the disparate ingredients together (a touch of whipped cream or whipped ricotta?) 2/5 Matcha Horchata Latte: I'm not sure what I was expecting of this but I found it cloyingly sweet. Upon arriving to Blueys, I was initially thrown off by the location which looked to be in an industrial area. Parking is tight and there are a lot of signs indicating where you can and can't park. Blueys does not have employees taking customer orders at tables, so you can to get in line to order at the front and then seat yourself with first come, first serve seating. We luckily found a big table outside, that we shared with another couple. The food was really good, decent portions but overpriced. Not surprising considering location and inflation but it didn't taste like it was worth almost $90, especially since we were basically sitting in a parking lot. My boyfriend and I were not impressed enough to revisit, but we are new to the area so we are having fun exploring new spots. read more

Came here today for a long-overdue catch-up with my good friend from high school marching band -- and of course, we had to get the piccolo latte to rep our section! :') My friend ordered the avocado toast, which was beautifully done, and I ordered the sweet summer squash pancakes, which were a mountainous work of art as well. When food-adventuring, I love ordering things that I can't get anywhere else -- I'd never heard of squash pancakes until now, and they had such a unique, fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth taste! Their green hue was aesthetically paired with whole grain pumpkin seed granola (my absolute favorite mix) and mint leaves, then decoratively sprinkled with fresh berries. As a sustainability enthusiast, I was initially afraid that there wouldn't be any reusable silverware (since you order your food and pay first at the counter), but there indeed were cute baskets of them outside! This place is seriously slipping. Customer service gets a zero as far as I'm concerned. I called in my order like I usually do and pick up close to the time they give me to pick up. I had been waiting for my order ten minutes on top of the 25 minutes they explained it would be done. When I asked them about my order one guy just disregarded me. Another woman her name Adelia said you called in 30 minutes ago not 35. How are you going to speak to customers like that. She also claimed they go by ticket order yet people that were in line received their orders before I did. Then when getting my order they didn't even write which burger was well done and medium. Fries were soggy when ordered-for extra crispy. More customers were irritated then happy. This was my go to but for $44 for two burgers and fries and food and service lame, I won't return. I was in the area for a work meeting and needed to kill some time beforehand. Thanks to Yelp, I found this hidden gem. I ordered a turmeric latte with almond milk and enjoyed my drink and the ambiance so much that I decided to return for lunch. For lunch I ordered the seasonal bowl. Salmon was grilled to perfection - I loved the charred skin and how moist and flaky the salmon was. My only "complaint" is the portion size. I probably could've ordered something else, but I have a tendency to overeat so maybe the portion size is actually perfect... In any event, parking can be a challenge so... good luck! read more

Cute little brunch place that serves up delicious food that leans on the healthier side. There's seating inside and plenty of shaded outdoor seating as well. Instead of french toast, eggs benedict, and pancakes, Bondi Harvest specializes in bowls and toasts accompanied with avocado, kale, and cauliflower rice. A lot of their food can be made gluten free or vegan, but don't worry, they have plenty of eggs and bacon (and other meats) to go around. There's also a decent selection of coffee and tea. My friend ordered the Whirley bowl, which had a variety of vegetables to go along with a perfectly cooked piece of fish. It was light and refreshing but also substantial enough to work as a meal thanks to the fish and avocado. I went with the "Former" bowl (it's the one with Prince's symbol) and that was also very filling as well. I opted to pay extra for the grilled halloumi. Whether you want to make this bowl vegan (just omit the fried egg), vegetarian or omnivorous, it's going to taste GREAT. The falafel and hummus were especially tasty. I asked for fried eggs and they could've been cooked for a little longer (whites were still a bit slimy), but that wasn't a huge deal. Highlight was the tabasco kale and mushrooms though!! I kind of get the hype of this place. Overall, I have mixed feelings. While the location is beautifully decorated, I don't know if the food and drinks here can really carry the high ranking at this location for long. Our food took forever to arrive and it was because of the lunch rush. This is probably because this place can not handle a large lunch rush due to its small kitchen. I had to wait for about a half hour before my food came out and when it did, it was cold. Nothing was hot or warm. The sweet halloumi tartine avocado toast was alright, but it wasn't "wow!". I might have to try this place again and hopefully I could have a better experience. The decor was pleasing. I loved hanging out there and just admiring how the place is designed. Internet is not existent, this place is not really that great for you to work and have your caffeinated drink. Parking is hard as well. Be ready to park far when you visit during busy lunch hours. Everyone from nearby companies and high schools all visit here for lunch. read more

I will start off by saying that my friends and I love this spot. We've been coming here since early 2020 (before the shutdown), and back then it was far less crowded/busy. The coffee is good, the bowl formerly known as is delicious and healthy, and their house hot sauce is great. HOWEVER, since it's become significantly more popular, it took 50 minutes for us to get our food today and 45 minutes the last time we came (hence the 3 star rating). I like this spot, but I'm hesitant to come back due to how long it takes for you to get your food. They really need to figure out their kitchen situation... read more

Grabbed some food at around 1PM on Sunday afternoon before an event at the New Roads School. The line was out the door and it took about 20 minutes for us to get through it, but the staff were as quick as they could be and the food was delicious! Loved the avocado toast that I ordered: just the right hint of lemon, and the bread wasn't so flimsy that the smashed avocado made it soggy. The structural integrity held up well! I also got a soft-boiled egg on top of the toast (+$2) which was a great addition. The side of bacon that I ordered was also crispy and delicious! I tried a bite of my friend's squash pancakes and they were also really good - the consistency and flavor were both very interesting. Portion sizes aren't bad for the price! There's both indoor and outdoor seating; we were trying to get in and out quickly so that we wouldn't be late for our event, so we sat at a counter inside the main restaurant, but the outdoor seating looked really nice, especially given the great weather. read more

A hip place in a somewhat hidden place. Missed the sign so went around the block looking for it. Heard of parking issues but got lucky to get the parking right next to the front door. Remember the concept of eating in little portions but more often in a day? The meals came in metal dish wares, the kinds you used in camping. The choice of dish wares complimented the hipness of this place. As simple as it was, the presentation and plating were superb. The pancakes were really good. Who would have thought of making pancakes out of squash? It was a brilliant idea and worked wonderfully into a fantastic meal. I can't say the same for the bowl. It's kind of bland for me. My new obsession. You can also get CBD added to any drink! Free parking on a small side street (that can be easy to miss). The establishment itself has an inside seating section and outdoor patio. My group chose to sit outside (inside has no AC FYI). The cashier was very nice and could speak to the selections on the menu. Once you order at the cashier, grab a number, and a runner will bring it to your table. My Avocado Toast was delicious, huge, and of course, aesthetically-pleasing. I would recommend to anyone (especially millennials). Others in the group tried The Bowl and Kale Salad and both really liked theirs. My toast with avocado, egg, and bacon was great but my kale salad with mushroom wasn't for my taste buds. For drinks He got the chai tea latte and i got an iced latte both were good. We loved the outside seating atmosphere, a great place to sit and chill and relax. They messed up my order twice which was -_- but they didn't realize cheese was already mixed into one of the items and then when switched to getting a burrito, I got my burrito I asked for no potatoes and one other item and the first one they brought me had burritos. This place was such a sweet surprise - It's tucked away within a business park where a few benches are placed on parking spots. It was on and off raining when I was there, but they had indoor seating which was cozy with a lovely interior decor. I got their Sweet Summer Squash Pancakes and they were delicious! The fluffy pancakes with the sweet syrup, crunchy granola and fresh fruit made for the perfect combination. My boyfriend got the Breakfast Burrito and he was not as impressed by it as I was with the pancakes; he felt like they weren't anything special but still tasty. So impressed with the amount of seating area available. They very much utilize their whole surrounding area. Patio areas well shaded (based on time of day), but they have tables for 2-6+ based on your party size. Love the beach vibe. They have a mini shop both inside where you order and on a bus to the side. Great ambiance and attire can be anything from fancy to surfer. Good is priced well and was delicious. The kale salad in the Blueys breakfast was incredible. Also the breakfast was worth every cent. The avocado toast alone makes the meal. So much parking availability, so no worries there. came in on a Tuesday and the cafe was pretty empty - we found parking right in front of the restaurant and sat outside on a long bench. I loved the vibe of the cafe and the decor had a very beachy vibe to it. We ordered the egg sandwich, the bowl, bondi breakfast, squash pancakes, and acai breakfast bowl. egg sandwich (5 stars): super delicious!! the egg yolk was still runny and it coated the avocado, bacon and toasted sourdough bread really well & mixed with the aioli really nicely. the bowl (5 stars): definitely my favorite out of the 5 dishes! even though it's mostly veggies, it'll fill you up. I loved it mostly because of the different textures you get from the crunch of the pickled radish to the creamy hummus. bondi breakfast (4 stars): a pretty standard breakfast plate, not too memorable but still delicious and filling squash pancakes (3.5 stars): I loved that it wasn't too sweet, but the texture was a bit too mushy for me and I wasn't a fan of the sweet avocado in between the pancakes. but it was a super pretty dish! acai breakfast bowl (2.5 stars): it was more of a sorbet than an acai bowl imo. it was literally 2 scoops of acai and the texture was icy rather than creamy and smooth. it was also too sweet. really nothing special about it. overall, a super cute cafe with delicious food you should try out! read more
