They had a DJ and were nice so really not a big deal! Sadly they were out of coffee? But still got a espresso martini and it was very good. I can't speak to the other drinks here, but I was with some folks who didn't drink and it was good with the mocktails. The food however, really covers it all. Ordered the cornbread to start and when I say this was better than I could've imagined, this was top 5 if not top 2 cornbreads I've had. This cornbread with the fig spread and butter was what I want every single cornbread to taste like - warm, sweet and flaky; it was SO good. We used every bit of the butter and the fig jam. The entrees were above and beyond. I took a chance on the catfish and it was the best chance. It was perfectly seasoned, perfectly fried, and the grits were SO good and flavorful. The glare was saying, "How much longer y'all gonna sit there?!" We were on a time limit because we still needed to make our way to the Brooklyn Museum of Art. End of the work week! My wife was craving BBQ and I thought it would be great to support a neighborhood near and dear to my heart...Harlem! At one time, the go-to was the legendary Sylvia's and it remains a staple but Harlem offers an array of eateries, lounges and culinary experiences capturing flavors from all over the world. I chose BLVD because of its back story, this is a black-owned, family gem that has taken flavors from the south and brought them right to Harlem's doorstep. The food was great, the ambiance was fun, the staff pleasant, and there was a gentleman working the room that checking the pulse of the clientele, either management of the chef himself, especially since he seemed especially happy with the positive feedback about the food, total pride! I visited this restaurant the other day, but it was extremely packed so I went to another one because I was doing walk-in service, but today I was able to sit down. It was really really good.. being that I came for brunch/snack I didn't really get meals. What I did get was a lot of sides and they were all delicious. It was a girl's brunch and we chose to go to Harlem. I made reservations for 1:30pm. When we arrived I found parking nearby. We walked in and the music was booming. Our temperatures were taken and we were sat right away. We were served by Shay and she was great. We started out with a passion tea mimosa craft. The one I poured had a small hair in the glass and Shay took care of it right away. The mimosa was very tasty, only thing is after while it got too sweet tasting. For our entrées I hot the fried chicken dinner and the girls got different items. The food looked delicious. I enjoyed my chicken and potato salad. The collards were just ok. Yummy! I've been plotting and scheming on coming here for brunch for months now but haven't found the time until today. I made reservations because I know this place is pretty packed. I requested one of the green houses outside because it was pretty crowded inside and just wanted space from all the noise and loud music. My request was fulfilled with no problem. The seating outside is not that great just because of the location and the way it is set up. I would definitely sit indoors or in one of the outside green houses and not at the individual tables. My reservation was honored and I was seated on time. The food was delicious. It came out hot and prompt. The collard greens was very well seasoned and the catfish was crispy. The mac and cheese has bacon crumbles on top so if you don't eat bacon, let the server know. The menu is varied and has a great selection but I was told they don't substitute any of the side dishes. I didn't want the potato salad but was told I would have to buy another side because they don't substitute. A little annoying, but no big deal. The servers and hostesses were very friendly and attentive. I would stop by again if in the area. I didn't catch brunch, but came for dinner. The lighting outside is pretty poor so either come early for outdoor dining or sit inside. I was too full to eat dessert although I wanted some but definitely next time. I have been here twice. Both times on a Friday. The 1st time I sat at a table. The server was just ok. Cash I assume was fairly new but when we would ask detail questions about the food and drinks, he would say I don't know. I just started working here. As a manager myself this is NOT the proper response. You should say, I am not sure...Let me find out and get back to you. So he gets 3*. Now on to everything else which is 10 stars. They say the 3rd time is the charm but I disagree.. My 2nd time here was EVERYTHING!! The bartenders Eric and Malik make KICK ASS BOMB DRINKS!!! I am coming back to see both of you. The food is solid and made upon request, so do know that the food takes some time to make it out. However, their drinks are solid, the music is always good and the decor makes you forget all of the previous businesses that tried to hold this corner of 116th street. Speaking of which, the location couldn't be better nor easier to find. During the pandemic, BLVD has set up outdoor seating, a weekend brunch with a live DJ and it's classic Brunch all day menu. I was excited to try this restaurant since it came highly recommended by my sorority sister. She loves to eat, as do I! I will preface this by saying I drove to Harlem on a rainy Tuesday night to try this cuisine. We even made a reservation. Upon arriving, I was initially made to wait for a table because she wasn't there. It annoyed me because the place was empty. Why make me stand in my wet clothes and wait when there were literally 3-4 parties seated in the main dining area and 9-10 open tables?! Eventually the host saw the annoyance on my face and allowed me to sit while telling me I couldn't have any food but they would allow me to order drinks and appetizers. Ok fair enough. Welllll I didn't even get to order that initially because after sitting for 10 minutes, my friend was late because of train delays, the waitress only showed up when my friend did. Thankfully the bus boy brought me water! I ordered appetizers when the waitress finally came back, she left to get lemon, and stayed away for a hot minute (remember there were only 4 occupied tables? And the one closest to us probably died from sitting and holding her outstretched credit card for no less than 30 minutes.). I finally ordered ginger wings and corn bread maybe 35 minutes after I first arrived. Both came really quick but the corn bread was hard and even though it was warm-hot the butter didn't melt. It just sat on top of the bread like a crown. Who was going to eat that? Since she didn't come back to see what we wanted to order OR to see why the cornbread was sitting, we told the bus boy to take it. Side bar: He was amazing and the reason for the 2 stars. Thankfully the wings were great. I was too annoyed to order anything else. Plus I didn't want to risk it coming at 9:46 when they were just about to close. The waitress didn't fill our water while we sat, she didn't ask if my friend wanted a to go box and I'm STILL waiting for the lemon I asked her for about 8ish. By then, we were frustrated and barely had the appetite to eat. We ended up taking most of our food home. Unfortunately, this seemed to be a common issue as we noticed other tables experiencing similar delays. It was quite disappointing and felt unprofessional. On a positive note, the music was great, but I wouldn't recommend going on the weekend due to the long waits. The prices were on the higher side considering the portions were small. I ordered the salmon with mashed potatoes, which I would rate 8/10, and the wings, which were excellent and deserving of a 9/10. The biscuits were a highlight, earning a solid 10/10.
