Well...beef fajitas were just OK. Chicken fajitas were dry. Fish in fish tacos tasted dirty, a pet peeve of mine. Portions of rice and beans were in tiny little cups. Black beans were super runny. Queso tasted like Velveeta. In sum, this place is mediocre at best. Came back with group of 20. We whisked right through the line and ate outside. Had the chicken enchiladas this time and they were good. A companion had tacos with cold tortillas!!??!!?? Someone ate the Mexican pizza and said it was good. Decent...not great. read more

What a cute little taco shop in the museum district, and located directly next door to my surgeon's office (the hand and wrist center). Don't be afraid to sit outside. The benches and chairs are quite comfortable and you'll get a few laughs watching people try to parallel park without damaging someone's Audi or Lexus. You order with one of the employees and you have your choice of tacos, a bowl, fajitas, a burrito or nachos. It's chipotle style where you pick what toppings and meat you want. I personally love getting the bowl with shredded chicken or pork, all the beans, cheese, lots of red onion, and guacamole (extra charge). They also have all kinds of sauces and the sour cream in squeeze bottles. The chicken is tender and tasty but the pork is the real winner. It is flavor-able, juicy and pulls apart with a fork which is so delicious in a "bowl". Get some lettuce on the bottom to make it super healthy! They also offer a few different kinds of cake and have a nice little lemonade stand where you MUST try the pineapple lemonade. Or strawberry. Or all at once. They've also got a few craft beer in cans such as Hopadillo and your regular, Corona and Dos Equis. No table service but the food is great and they've got a lot of choices and it's always nice and clean. The quality isn't what is used to be. I used to eat here ALL OF THE TIME, its one of the few places near where I love, so it was convenient. Just recently, my husband and I visited and got nachos. They brought out a new container of queso that was SO watered down. We got there about and hour before closing, so maybe they didn't want to waste any queso. I walked here from the HMNS (only a 5 minute walk) and was not disappointed. The fish and shrimp tacos were delicious. You get an order of 3 tacos for $9.95 and a drink, and a side of beans and rice come with the tacos. We were at the park and hungry so we stopped in. We got fish tacos and chicken enchiladas. I ordered to-go and was pointed toward the register to pay and was told to sit wherever for my food with a number and someone would bring it later. I sat at a small table near the register and pickup area. 15 minutes later the guy I placed the other with was like 'you're still waiting?' Apparently half my order was sent somewhere else and the other half was just sitting on their counter getting cold. No rush, no effort to fix the cold food, the people behind the counter were obviously annoyed to make it again. They remade the missing half and just let the rest sit. I got it 5-10 or so minutes later. The food was great (even when served cool), the service was not. No one really gave a **** (except the guy I placed the order with who came through just before my patience ran out) but it's annoying to watch tons of people come through after you, order, get food, and leave while you wait for your order, then wait for your order again. read more

I found this place using google maps. Was looking for a decent mexican place in the downtown vicinity. I've been here 9 times now. 6 times in 2018 and 3 times this year. The food has been consistently good everytime I've gone. My go to is the chicken enchilada combo and chips and salsa. Salsa is really good. Not super hot. It's not a chunky style salsa. Chips are always fresh. Enchiladas are really good. They use rotisserie chicken and green enchilada sauce. Service was good each time I went. I never had to wait that long for my food to come out. Oh Bodegas Taco Shop how you have seriously dissapointed me. I came with high hopes but they fell short as soon I ordered the number 7 (spicy pork). The line wasn't to long yet I was rushed to go pay without choosing the rice or beans that come with my meal. So when the food finally does arrive to the table the hottest thing on the plate are the tortillas the rest of it pork, beans and rice were cold and bland. Even though it comes with 2 salsas they were no help on adding any type of flavor to the food. The decor music and screens are amazing and with so much put in decor I would have hoped for a better outcome on the food but for now I guess I will have to hold back on returning. read more

As far as food, I would suggest the fajita steak--it's tender and flavorful which I wasn't expecting from a build your own Tex Mex place. A great place tucked away between the Medical Center and the Museum District. This place a great patio and also ample indoor dining seating. I had the taco salad and it was great. You can choose the toppings that you want along a toppings bar. They have a full bar and lots of beer to choose. The staff was very friendly and it was a quick lunch - no need to wait for 30 minutes - you get your food right off of the line and off you go to a booth or the patio. A really good taco place!! Definitely not a "hole in the wall" kind of place. More a "trendy restaurant" place with neon and such. But still, damned tasty. It's a "build it yourself" menu. You choose whether you're having tacos, nachos, burritos, etc, then you choose the meats, toppings, and so on. I decided on nachos and they started building them in a big stainless steel mixing bowl!! I knew at that point I'd be getting my money's worth. I can highly recommend pork carnitas as a meat choice. Mmmmm!! I paid what seemed an extremely reasonable price for the ton of food they gave me. When I got to my table, I saw a bulk paper towel roll. They must know me from somewhere. Not that I'm messy with finger food, but you know.... I really enjoyed my meal, the rustic decor is appealing, the staff were all very friendly, and I got a lot of food for not a lot of money. What more could you ask for? The place is just a couple of blocks from the natural history museum, so easy to hit both on a nice weekend. I'm definitely going back. Give it a try!! read more

Sooooo I'm really not a big fan of the Chipotle/Freebirds/Bullrito type spots. I mean they're ok, but just not really my thing. Was in the area for work & this was the 1st place that popped up on a taco search, so I went for it. This is one of the reasons why I LOVE Yelp! I usually avoid this area of town like the plauge due to the whole parking scene & had no clue this spot existed. Walked in & was greeted quickly. Seeing my lost & confused look one of the guys asked if this was my 1st go & gave me the run down. He said the magic words "fish tacos" & I was all in. It was the start of the lunch period & the staff kept the orders moving; both take out & dine in. Very clean inside & noticed they have a full bar. Nice little patio area, so I chose to sit out there. The waitress brought my food out & I gotta say I was impressed! I love love love fish tacos. This spot is 1 of the very few that give you a full piece of fish in EACH taco vs. a small spoonful of flakes. The seasoning was lightly done, which I think is a good thing. Not salty/over spiced to the point you can't taste the fish. The slaw in the tacos gave a good crunch. My side of cilantro rice & refried black beans were yummo as well! The prices are great & you will get your $$$ worth for sure. Only got through 1 1/2 tacos & a litlle of the sides; so guess what I'm having for lunch today? First off museum district parking may actually be WORST than RICE VILLAGE parking. I didn't think that could be possible, but there is just no where you can park. However, on this night as I circled around for the 5th time, someone was backing out and I was able to park right in front of the place. However, be warned, there may be lots of homeless people who ask for change. I came in and saw a build your own nachos. That seemed cool, I had the pork carnitas and it was good. A huge bowl with whatever toppings you wanted. I was stuffed by the time I was done. The cheese was superb! But what makes this place even more great? The strawberry lemonade. This place just opened up last week. It's pretty similar to Chipotle in the way that you get to chose the meat and veggies to put into your taco/burrito. I had a shredded pork burrito with habanero papaya salsa and it was muy rico.I noticed that this place has a bar which sets it apart from Chipotle, and a decent looking drink menu. Bodega's is right in the middle of the Museum District, and it is one of the three restaurants that I can think of which is in walking distance of all of the museums (the other two being the ZaZa restaurant and Cafe Express in MFAH). It's also in walking distance from where I live (which rocks) and very close to the Museum District light rail station. Unlike most restaurants in H-Town, this place isn't in a big strip center with a huge parking lot. It's on the ground floor of a building which happens to be a hospital near the Museums and near the residential streets of the Museum District. We need more places like this.
