This place is absolutely amazing!! I am a frequent visitor of Chipotle but after my first time here I wrote a hasty break up letter to the other burrito place. (We're still friends tho. Lol) Anyway, the food here is delicious and there are many different sauces to sample and put on your food. I don't even think I can explain the amount of euphoria when their food hit my tastebuds. Oh my gosh. Their burritos are the standard giant variety and the nacho bowl is huge and satisfying. I never tried their tacos but I'm sure those are good too. Friend had a margarita and she loved it. The only thing that annoys me is they charge extra for certain veggies and now they charge extra if you want more than two sauces when you used to be able to get an unlimited amount. My friends and I had the chicken tacos and the "Mexican pizza" after visiting the nearby museums. The tortilla pizza was amazing-- very crispy and flavorful. However, in both dishes the chicken was a little dry. Other than that, the restaurant has a great ambiance with the colorful lighting and helpful staff. This restaurant is super loud because of the music and people and when I went their was construction happening next door, so when I was ordering, I was literally screaming and the lady could not hear me. I ordered nachos, but every time I told her what I wanted and pointed to it, I guess she didn't hear me, so she would put the wrong thing, so I got a different kind of beans, meat, and sauce than I actually wanted. I'm a pretty chill person, so I was just like whatever guess I'm trying something I wouldn't normally get today, but I could see how someone could get upset about this and I was screaming my order pretty loud so idk. After visiting the Houston Museum of Natural Science and dodging children and huge families all day, we needed a stiff drink to get the nerves down. I wanted a margarita and some chips. Bodega Taco Shop? Sounds like a perfect places to get both of these items! We sat at the bar but it looks like you order your food at the counter. It looks kinda like a Chipotle or a Qdoba where you build your own. We didn't eat, but I wanted to! We ordered a couple margaritas at the bar and some chips, salsa, and queso. The chips were fresh, the queso was great, and the salsa was kinda plain. The margaritas were amazing, and I had two.Service was really friendly and helpful. I placed an order with a Bodega's Taco Shop today through a catering website called ezcater. I am a pharmaceutical rep who uses ezcater at least five times a week, and today in Houston there was a tropical depression that dropped 14 to 15 inches of rain in some areas; mine being one of the areas. I contacted ezcater to see if I could cancel and reschedule the order, because I could not get to my office luncheon in Sugar Land. The ezcater rep explained to me that she contacted the manager at Bodega's who would not allow me to cancel the order without being fully charged. Let me mention that this call was placed at 8:30 AM and my lunch was not scheduled to be delivered until noon! I decided to contact the restaurant myself, thinking that by explaining that I was flooded in and the news showing all of the areas that were flooded the manager would make an exception for the special situation. I spoke with the manager, and he was incredibly condescending, sarcastic, and just an overall difficult human being. When I explained that I was flooded in and could not get to my luncheon, his response was "That's funny! Because we've delivered several orders to your area this morning without any problems." I told him that he could look at the news and see that I was not lying. He then went on to say "many of my workers live a long way from the restaurant and they managed to make it here safely, so I don't see why you should have a problem making it to your luncheon." I stated that the lunch I ordered was a 'build a taco salad bar' for 20. Nothing was assembled, so wasn't there a way for him to sell what I had ordered during his lunch rush, especially since he was not having any issues with flooding in his area? He went on to tell me "no, that's not how it works. We lose money you lose money." I explained that his behavior was leaving a very bad taste in my mouth. And that a $350 order is not worth losing a customer for the long term. He stated that he tried to help me the best that he could; he could bring it to my house or he could take the order wherever I needed it to go but he could not cancel it. I explain that as a pharmaceutical rep that would not work, because I can't have the food here at my house and that it would need to go to the office. I also explained that Ive ordered at least five times from ezcater every week for the last two years and have never canceled an order. This was a very special and dangerous situation. He then responded with "that's also funny, because I have never seen your name appear on any of our ezcater orders". I explained that I had just ordered two weeks ago for one of my offices on Fannin, and his response was "oh, well did they like the food?" At that point I told him that he was just being outright condescending, and to go ahead and deliver the food and I would do whatever I needed to do in this dangerous flooding situation to take care of it. When I told him he was being condescending he wanted to hang up on me and said "you have a great day" and hung up on me. I will never, EVER order from Bodega's Taco Shop again until that manager is taught how to handle customer service issues better and in a more sympathetic way. His customer service skills are unacceptable and they will continue to lose business as long as he manages situations. His thinking is extremely short-term, and he did not consider the hundreds of orders (tens of thousands of dollars) a year that I could be making to Bodega's because he was so shortsighted to only see the potential temporary loss of $350 today. read more

I was excited to see this on yelp. When we entered I was confused on how to order but the cashier explained it all! I got fish taco combo. It came with rice & beans. Taco were good but I needed a lime. They were out of limes. Really you have a full bar how are u out of limes? That's was a downer. The cilantro rice was not very good and cold. Black beans were like soup. No whole beans. We also got queso with ground beef with chips. That was good and a lot of meat more than I expected. Parking is very limited and you might have to pay. This place is a gem. It's similar to the "assembly line process" you would see at Chipotle or FreeBirds with as many, if not more options. You can make nachos(which I highly recommend), burritos, as well as other options. They offer hot queso, in addition to two other traditional shredded cheese options. The fresh pico, pinto beans, and chopped jalepenos, are incredibly delicious and will add awesome flavor to whichever dish you choose. I work in the hospital nearby and visited today and first I noticed there's no people of color in this establishment. And me being a mixed black woman that immediately caught my attention. And the Mexicans that was there wasn't very attentive to us but they were to their own race. Which is typical because we know they are known for not liking blacks. The food was subpar, the atmosphere was blah. Could use some diversity and more people who speak English. The food is excellent. Whether you go with the tacos, burrito, bowl or salad, they are very generous with the toppings. I've also seen an order of nachos, and it was STACKED. I'll probably share that one day with a friend or two. For 6.95, you can't go wrong. There's a wide variety of ingredients and sauces to choose from so the combinations are almost endless. It's also nice to see items that you can't find in other similar establishments. I'll typically go with the rotisserie chicken, charro beans, and cilantro serrano dressing and mix up everything else. The staff is consistently nice and friendly. Parking is a little tricky but you should be able to find some metered parking off the street. This is a great alternative to the other taco/burrito joints. I also hear they have a great happy hour. read more

The guy who took our order didn't know any of the happy hour specials, including margarita prices. There were at least 3 signs with different margarita prices all over the restaurant. When I asked him what was in the "special sauce" on the burger, he had no idea and just said it was special. Derp. Don't try ordering any of the combos without rice and beans. It's the same price, regardless of whether or not you want the drink and sides. So just take them anyway, I guess. That's what I did, but then they forgot to give me the rice and beans. Double derp. Food was just OK, didn't change my life. I was left feeling hungry an hour after eating their shrimp tacos. The only reasons why they get 2 stars from me are (1) the margarita, and (2) they fixed my order when they messed it up without any trouble. Don't go here if you have a low tolerance for kids. There are lots of them, being next to the park and the science museum and such. TL/DR: It's just ok. Seemed a bit overrated based on other reviews. read more

My experience was quite disappointing. I called to place an order for someone else. I have never been to the restaurant before, so I was a bit unsure of how everything worked. As I'm explaining what I need, the person on the other end of the phone asked me a question I didn't have the answer to. As I am telling him this he begins to tell me how it works in the most offensive way. His tone was elevated and he was hung up on telling me what comes next that he didn't take the time to listen to me. I hung up the phone. I called to verify the information that I needed with the person I was ordering for, then I went to the location. As I'm placing the order, I feel a bit more confident because I now have the information that he demanded over the phone. Once we get to the meat, he says they are out of enough of what I need. So once again I'm ordering for someone, so I can't just change their order without checking with them first. As I am making my phone call, I can feel him getting irritated with me. To be so unaware of how you make new customers feel is shameful. Once we get pass the meat situation. I finish explaining what else I need on the burrito. I asked for an order of chips and fries. Oh man this was like pulling teeth. I'm guessing that my mask must have made fries sound like rice. So we go back and forth for a while until it is determined that I want Fries. He ask someone to make the fries as he goes to get the chips. He turns around, looks at me then begins speaking to the other workers in Spanish, then he begins to laugh. Now if they were actually speaking about me that was not determined, but based on our interaction I would say so. I say all this to say, customer service should be more important. You can have the best food on the planet. However, if you continue to treat customers as though they are idiots and don't matter, you will never see the full potential of your business. read more

My wife and I was visiting Houston and wanted to try some traditional Tex-Mex and this place was just around the corner from where we was visiting. My wife had Shrimp Tacos and loved them. Now, I'm biased towards burritos in general, so I can't really review any of the other food here. But for a drink and giant meal (in my opinion), $8.50 is a hell of a deal. I'm a vegetarian so I get the meatless rice, lots of veggies, cheese, pico, guac, hot sauce, and sour cream with black refried beans. SO. GOOD. I am craving one now. Ugh maybe it is because I am from San Antonio and great authentic Mexican food grazes every corner or maybe it is because I myself Know how to cook Mexican food. He was given basically a stainless steel baking bowel and asked what toppings he wanted on top. and for the Finale...the Tortillas totally came from a package...I took one sniff and knew they were NOT HOMEMADE. Now in case you were wondering, yes I did try the tortilla and still came to the conclusion that they were not homemade. Super disappointing considering this is not a chain like chipotle which is also a disgrace to a burrito but anywho, clearly I will stay out of places like these because no one knows how to cook. If you are going to make a burrito or serve fajitas then please make fresh tortillas, its really not that hard. :-) Also this place was really overpriced. Will never return. On a plus side the staff was really nice, helpful and prompt in bussing tables. Some guy was complaining about how his order of wings "wasn't enough" and they gladly brought him more "on the house." The food here is a good solid taco (or burrito) that you will probably enjoy. I got the vegetarian burrito and it was filling and probably equivalent to Freebirds in tastiness. One of my favorite things about this place is the location- there aren't a lot of places to eat in the Museum District and it is right near the park, so we can get our fill of Mexican food and then wander around the park for a half hour or so. Also, I love the patio- so nice on hot days! And everytime I have been there, there have been plenty of open tables on the patio. My main complaint here is the noise level when ordering. I can barely hear what the people behind the counter are saying and they won't speak up :-( Perhaps turn the music down a decibel or two so I don't have to say "What?" every other word when the person behind the counter mumbles something about salsa. read more

Got the fish taco combo, which includes a drink. The cashier asked what size, I said medium. I understand the ¢50 they charge for a drink upgrade. What I don't understand is why I was charged for an entire other drink ON TOP of the ¢50 I had already been charged for the upgrade. By the time I realized what the cashier had done she was on to the next person & the charge was already on my card. Prices are very inconsistent, I often order the same thing and take notice.
