Came here a few times with some friends and the food hasn't disappointed me yet. The galbijjim is probably the best thing on the menu along with the bbq beef. The galbijjim has this nice and deep flavor that is hard to come around in Houston's Korean cuisine. Something about the overall flavor reminded me of the food I had Seoul. However, the galbitang was disappointing to be honest. I'd probably give that a 3/5. It was missing that rich taste that the galbijjim had. It tasted a little watery. The pancake wasn't too bad itself, but it wasn't anything special. The special thing on the menu is definitely the galbijjim. My biggest complaint with this place is the banchan (side dishes). It goes against the principle of Korean cuisine that you have to pay for the side dishes here. Part of the joy of Korean food is knowing that with every meal, you have at least a few side dishes to pair with the main dish. Charging a dollar or two for a side of kimchi is ridiculous and honestly, that in itself made me want to give this place 2 stars instead of 4. It's not even about the money, it's about the principle and this establishment should know better. Running a restaurant is not about making an easy cent or two. It's about telling a story, representing a culture, and sharing an experience with all those who visit. Don't jeopardize all of that to make some money selling kimchi and packaged seaweed. read more

Tteobokki flavor was really good with right amt of spice and sweetness reminiscent of street tteobokki but sadly, the fish cake which is one of the key ingredients of this dish had this weird perfume(?) taste to it that I have never known from eating fish cake that I actually ended up not eating them. The second you walk in the place is inviting and the staff is friendly. The waiter brought us ice cold water in a canteen and we ordered the fruit drinks- Plum and Pear- these were PHENOMENAL! We got the bulgogi and the bibimbop and they came out fast and delicious. We had such a great experience that I didn't take any pictures, but ours looked exactly like the pictures. They give you a big soft tofu slab, it just seems like the cooks were too lazy to make it presentable. BTS Stew- 6/10, $12 Stew was also flavorful but extremely salty, I just remember it tasting like American cheese. This place is delicious and quality all in a cute little modern shop in the new Katy Chinatown. This was my first restaurant after COVID started and I was a little anxious about eating out again, but all the workers were wearing masks and the restaurant seemed sanitary. We came during its soft opening and although the menu isn't very big, it has some must get items! Squid ink seafood pancake: this blew my expectations out of the water! I honestly was not excited to eat seafood pancake, but this pancake is different. It was thin and crunchy, the squid was tender, and I loved the sweet dipping sauce. Also yes, it's pitch black because of the squid ink which I thought was pretty cool. Does not taste burnt at all, lol. Must get. Bon Galbi: this is basically their namesake and it yes, it's worth it. The galbi is really thick and flavorful and not overloaded with fat. Even the lettuce bed underneath that soaks up the flavors was delicious. Galbitang: this is a beef bone broth and I was really excited for this dish but I was disappointed. The soup itself was good and I enjoyed the vegetables and noodles, but the meat was a little tough and it wasn't easy to split among friends. Army Stew: great flavors, it's a conglomeration of ramen, random meats and vegetables if you've never had this. It's basically reminiscent of an everything stew during hard times but still tasty! It is pretty pricey though. I think overall, love the place. There are a few dishes I would definitely get again. The menu felt a little sparse, but that may be because it's still during their soft opening but I'm looking forward to what else they'll offer. Furthermore, I can't give it 5* because I do feel like the restaurant was quite expensive for the meal, and we actually finished most of the food to my surprise instead of having leftovers. We have been regulars here since they opened and really fell in love with three dishes. Unfortunately they just came out with a new menu and have discontinued two of our favorite choices. Tried two of the new dishes today including the Korean pork ribs and TTEOK Galbi (Korean hamburger patties). Both were good but I sure miss their spicy pork belly dish and the beef spare ribs. I was pretty excited to try out this place because the reviews seemed pretty great. It's always great to try out new Korean restaurants and I couldn't wait to try this one out. I was pretty disappointed however. Space is pretty limited and it's a first come first serve, so get there early if you want a table, otherwise, you're looking at a pretty lengthy wait. The food itself is pretty decent. Bibimbap is always a staple and worth getting. The portion size is pretty small though compared to other places, so consider getting an appetizer with your meal. I also tried the bulgogi, and again, good taste, decent amount of meat, but they charge you for rice if you want more. The thing I probably would get again would be the squid ink pancake - not really because it was great tasting but because it was probably the one thing on the menu that was worth the price. My biggest qualm about this place, aside from the lack of seating and overpriced food for smaller portions is the fact that they charge you for the sides! It just felt like everything was being nickeled and dimed! You were charged for sides, and there were no refills on it! If you're going to charge already higher prices for your entrees, at least includes the sides. Yet, here, they weren't holding back and definitely tried to get as much out of you as possible. Much like the numerous other reviews on here, Bon Galbi is starting to show its priorities with schiesting their customers by nickel and diming. Its one thing to make a profit as a business, but customers should not feel jipped by the time their visit is over. Unfortunately, while the food is tasty, the experience with Bon Galbi has left me wishing I went somewhere else. First, I would say Katy Asiantown is an upcoming area with a lot of financial and social potential. Bon Galbi's facility is quite modernized and very elegantly decorated (perhaps you're paying for their decor). However, I do wish there were more tables and it did feel claustrophobic walking in. Walking in, we had 6 people in our party but the waiter refused to seat us at a rectangle table that can seat 6 people stating it would be cramped. While I understand the concerned, he was quite adamant about it, so we were forced by this man to split our group up. Really dude? Menus showed higher than normal prices. Seafood tofu soup is $13, Bon Galbi is $28. Army stew is an incredible $30 (Ham, ramen, sausage, bacon, kimchee stew - all low cost items). The worst part is their sides are not complimentary but the nickel and diming comes in here. $1 for a pinch of fish skin, another $1 for literally 8 thin pieces of roasted seaweed and $1 for tofu with some peanut/sesame sauce the size of a 'deck of cards'. Oh, NO REFILLS either. Bowl of rice is additional charge too, and their measurements are sure as hell not what you would imagine, but closer to half size of your palm. As a business, they have every right to charge whatever the heck they want, but from a customer POV, its definitely not worth coming in to Bon Galbi. Its in your best interest to drive the extra 10 minutes to Chinatown or 15 minutes to Koreatown to get more food for half the cost. Their food is flavorful and good, but everything else would sour your experience. Save the trip, go elsewhere where your dollar will be stretched to fill your stomach. read more

This place has one of the best kimchis ever! I typically go to a lot of Korean restaurants and have tried a lot of different types of kimchis. By far this place has my favorite kimchi ever! Their army stew hotpot is perfect for 2-3 people, and the flavor was amazing! I also got the pork belly which was so tender. The pork belly was super crispy and super fatty it was absolutely delicious. The restaurant has a comfy feel to it that makes you feel at home. This place is located inside the suite New Katy Asia Plaza. It's surrounded many more Asian restaurants and retail stores. I've been several times and it stays crowded. When I arrived around 7 PM during the weekdays there was limited parking available, but it is a free open parking lot. I was greeted immediately and there was no wait. This was my first time myself and a friend dined at this restaurant. The menu options, lead to lots of questions for me, but the server was very attentive and explained everything. I also used Yelp photos of entrees to decide on my order. My friend and I both ordered something different and shared. It was a lot of food or very large portions of good quality hot and ready entrees. The food came out pretty quickly and was all really good. I posted a photo of what we ordered. The first time I came here, I loved it and I highly recommended it. We came here last night with a group of 5 people and I was much more disappointed with multiple things. Firstly, I'm upset that they now charge for banchan (side dishes). As much as we ordered, it doesn't seem fair that we don't at least get 1 set of banchan per main dish. I know they say a lot of people waste banchan, but it would make more sense to have a policy of 1 set per main dish with no refills instead of making you pay for every banchan dish and no refills. It kinda ruins the experience of eating Korean food for me when you order so many entrees and still have to buy banchan on the side. Secondly, they don't serve any alcohol but their byob is now $5 per person. When we came last time there was no charge. I know it's reasonable to have a corkage fee but it should be per table or perhaps "per bottle" instead of per person?! Kind of a rip off... Lastly, just like others have mentioned on here they tend to say the kitchen is closed way before the actual restaurant closes. My friend wanted to add on a galbitang at 8pm and the restaurant closes at 9pm. The server came back to say that the kitchen is closed, but that was such BS because the table next to us (a group of 8 women) didn't even order or get their food yet. It's almost like they don't care about their business and the servers just want to get out of there faster. It's really unfortunate because the food here is good. We also loved the haemul pajeon (seafood pancake) too, especially that the onions and carrots inside makes it more flavorful too! Got to try the spicy galbi jjim today for lunch. THIS WAS DELICIOUS. It was just my husband and I and after stuffing ourselves we still had so much meat left (I can't wait to eat the leftovers tomorrow). It's $45 and can feed 3-4 people. Level 2 spice is recommended but I got level 1 and it was still pretty spicy. The galbi jjim was a little on the sweet side but I appreciated it because it balanced out the spice. In addition to the meat, there were potatoes, cabbage, pumpkin, glass noodle. Pro tip: take home the leftover sauce and make fried rice with it. Don't waste the sauce! There's a lot of recent 1 star reviews because you now have to pay for banchan. I did think it was a little odd because part of eating at Korean places is getting all the side dishes but it didn't ruin the experience for me. I got kimchi ($1.50) and fish cakes ($1). They were out of pear juice so I got orange juice instead. Orange juice is okay; I'm not sure if I would order that again. Everything is cooked for you, so it is not one of those Korean BBQ places. If you check in on yelp or hashtag them, you can get a free soda. Upon sitting, they give you water right away. What we ordered: -Kimchi Pancake: It was nice and crispy. They used really ripe kimchi which made it nice and tangy. I loved it. -Bulgogi: Very flavorful. Ordered this for the kids and they enjoyed it. -Spicy Pork Belly: This was so good and the highlight of our meal! The portion is small though, they just give you one thick slice and topped with a ton it sliced green onions. -Galbi Tang: I have been wanting to try this for a while so I did not know what to expect. I liked it! The broth was light but very beefy. It included sliced daikon and glass noodles in the soup. -Dolsot Kimchi Cheese Bimbimbop: Good!
