My family and I occasionally order here and the food is always delicious including their tteokbokki which easily became my favorite dish there. We ordered tteokbokki last night, and it was not cooked properly unfortunately. The rice cakes were not soft, less cheese was added, the onions were raw. They made the spice of the sauce extremely spicy (reminded me of the sensation of those extremely spicy noodle packets). It was simply too spicy to enjoy, and my family usually handles spice well. We don't know what happened with the dish. I guess it can be a hit or miss. We will try again, but will ask for less spice next time. Will update this post. read more

First time trying Korean friend chicken and now I'm a believer! Very crispy skin and very moist meat. The Salmon Avocado Ball was light and refreshing with a great mix of flavors. Korean fried chicken is the best. So much better than American fried chicken. I love this place, been here three times already in one month. Service is quick now compare to opening day. Very friendly staff. There's two menu, lunch and dinner. I prefer the dinner, there's more choices. Happy hour is Mon thru Fri 5-630. Best drink here is the yogurt Soju! I love Bonchon but yesterday was disappointed. We got there around 8:50pm. I know they close at 9:00pm, but open sign still on, and customers still inside that why I want order togo only. But they said kitchen is closed. It doesn't make sense to me when open sign still on and business hour is 9:00 pm and they don't take order togo at all. Came here after craving for some soy garlic and spicy wings and as usual the food was delicious. The only down side is that the chicken wings no longer have the TIP part?! When did they change that? I was craving for the crispy chicken wings and the favorite part was the tip but when I opened by box there was no tip on the wing! Came here last night for dinner for the first time! All the raving on this place is pretty accurate. The Pros - FOOD! We ordered a few different items on their menu; for appetizers we got Shrimp Shumai which is shrimp dumplings fried (you can get it steamed). Our entrees we ordered Chicken Katsu, Bulgogi (thin sliced ribeye beef mixed w/ onions and mushrooms w/ a side of steamed rice), 10 piece Chicken Strips w/ a side of fries and Ribeye Sliders. Everything had lots of flavor - spice, texture, great portions & seasoning was perfect except on the Ribeye Sliders. I didn't get to try the Ribeye Sliders. This brings me over to my cons... The Cons - We ordered the Ribeye Sliders, which was one of the entrees I really wanted to try but either the server did not write it down or according to the server, the cooks "lost" my ticket. The server was really nice and very knowledgeable with the menu but he was not on top of it. Also, I don't know if this was due to slow kitchen or it's typical at this restaurant but our entrees were not brought out together so one person had their dinner before the other in our party. Typically I like to have our food come out together but the portions are a good size and we didn't mind sharing. 5 stars for food and 3 stars for service. Hopefully next visit I get to try the Sliders! read more

I've sampled fried chicken at a number of places. Surely this place is unique (and not unique -- it is a chain). For affordable fast food, the quality is very good, and the flavor stands out. We ordered wings and a bibimbap. The wings were boneless, great tasting (and the hot a little too hot). The batter battled between crispy and saucy, and I had wished it was a little more crispy. The bibimbap was the basic order, and very satisfying, well-prepared, and sizzling, with wonderful clumps of sizzled rice on the bottom. Very nice atmosphere and attentive servers. Bonchon is my new go-to place for fried wings! I can always count on this place to satisfy any cravings I have for wings. Unlike other wings place, Bonchon doesn't overdo it with the sauce. The wings are always crispy with just the right amount of sauce that is not too overwhelming. Besides the wings, I also really enjoy the Bulgogi fried rice. I have recently just started ordering it, and my goodness! I love it! I like to order mine extra spicy for that nice kick. And then the Bulgogi meat adds a little bit of sweetness to the fried rice, packing the dish with a sweet and spicy flavor. The seafood fried rice is good as well, but I still prefer the Bulgogi fried rice. The potstickers are great for starters. Ask for double glazed or extra hot if you dare! We ended up waiting for a total of 45 mins. Pretty fair for a Friday evening. The atmosphere was very modern but I feel like it's a little too small, since it can easily get crowded. They play k pop as their background music and had on the food network and basketball on their tv screens. We ordered seasoned fries, salmon avocado ball, chicken katsu and small size of wings/drumsticks in the soy & garlic flavor. The food came out pretty quick, which was nice because I was really hungry. Seasoned fries- Crispy & fresh, just how I like it. Could use a bit more seasoning. Salmon avocado ball- For something that was $9, I was expecting a bigger proportion. Yummy, but I kept wanting to eat it with wasabi & soy sauce. Chicken Katsu- Just like any other katsu you get. Still yum. Chicken wings/drumstick- Texture was a little sticky & crispy on the outside, very juicy on the inside. I like juicy, but I kind of didn't like the sticky. The first time I had it was in my hometown of Fairfax, Virginia and when I heard that Elk Grove decided to open on, I stalked the crap out of their Facebook for their grand opening! Can someone confirm if there's been an update to the "substitution policy" or if my waiter was making that up? I'm so bummed. Last time I can here they substituted meat for tofu in my tacos but this time the lady said they weren't allowed to do ANY substitutions at all. I believe her name was Tina. My salad came out a full TEN minutes before my boyfriends 10 wings came out. I saw the cooks package at least 3 to go orders and they all just sat on the counter. Umm I'm not impressed with this place at all. I finally decided to give this place a try in Sacramento/Elk Grove since I wanted to try something new. There's nothing "new" or awesome about this place. They are known for their wings/fried chicken. We ordered the 10pc wings (half soy garlic & spicy) and it came with a little bowl of radishes - the wings were tiny and there's not much meat or flavor. I have to say I did like the spicy half of the wings, but it wasn't to die for. I rather go to Fire Wings for their yummy meaty wings! Also, we ordered tofu bibimbap, which was just super bland and lacking like a million flavors, and it wasn't even sizzzzzzling hot. I rather go to an actually korean restaurant for their bibimbap. The bibimbap was sooo sad and I'm still disappointed with the wings. I'm sad just having to write this review and I'm still sad I spent almost $30 on not delicious food and I left the place still hungry and not one bit satisfied, can I have a refund plz. This place was too hyped up and it's not even good. Finally giving my review to this restaurant. My family and I have been here 5 times. 4 out of 5 times they have gotten our orders wrong. Hate to waste food so we just kept it and left. Parents love the boneless "nuggets." Lol. Reason for 2 stars one employee and we just like the food. Family and I recently moved here to Elk Grove. We knew we'd miss the Bonchon in our old location. I was ecstatic when I discovered there's one here. Old location I went to was super hyped. The cook in the old location is awesome. This location is not that great. My sister and I wanted to go here since it opened up but it was always busy. Now, I can clearly see why. The service was excellent and very attentive. The staff that we encounter were very friendly and doubled check to make sure we had all the food we order. The food is delicious for the most part. My sister's favorite was the salmon avocado ball. Looks odd but if you're a sushi lover, order the salmon Avocado Ball. It's like a sushi roll without the seaweed wrapper and rice, shaped in the form of a ball topped with tempera crumbles and green onions. My favorite was the soy garlic flavor wings, which has a sweetness to it. The bibimbap wasn't to my full expectations. I haven't found a place that makes a better bibimbap better than Sa Rang Bang. read more

I know, I waited FOREVER to try Bonchon... I didn't want to go when it soft opened and honestly I waited until the novelty wore off a bit because I don't really love waiting forever for dinner. I've tried to come a couple times on Tuesdays but they are closed on Tuesdays (sad panda.) PS I know that Bonchon is a chain #sorrynotsorry I came in with a friend, we got seated in a couple minutes. It was a Wednesday night about 7pm. The place was pretty full but manageable. The waitress asked if it was my first time and when I said yes, she offered to go over the menu with me and told me what was popular to order. She wasn't overly friendly (I don't think her personality is very warm) but she was a good and efficient waitress and I liked her. She kept the refills coming, asked if we needed anything, checked to make sure the food was good, etc... Our food came out quick! I was expecting to wait since it says chicken can take up to 30 minutes to come out on the menu but it was well under 30 minutes, maybe 10-15 minutes. We got regular fries which were delicious! We got the Bibimbap which was DELICIOUS. The bottom of the rice was nice and crispy, we got it with the bulgogi which was very flavorful and tender. All the veggies on the dish were good. My only regret was getting a fried egg instead of the raw. The waitress mentioned that the egg might not cook all the way so it scared my friend but that bowl was SO hot, it definitely would have cooked. Lesson learned. The chicken... oh the chicken! We got half spicy and half not spicy. We did the wing and drum stick combo and we ate the WHOLE thing. OMG, it was so good! I don't know what they coat it in (crack maybe, just kidding...) but it's so crispy! I can't even. It's glazed with a sauce that somehow isn't that messy. You'll still need a napkin but it's not dripping everywhere. The soy garlic is good, tasty. I loved the spicy one! It wasn't too spicy for me but it had a kick. I'm not a fan of the radishes but they are free so we tried it. I'd give this place 5 stars if I found the prices more reasonable. $7 for onion rings or seasoned fries? No thanks.
