Service is typical for this type of restaurant, not terrible, but nothing to write home about. The décor/facility is quite nice, clean and well maintained. The food here is the main negative, for me at least. If the best thing is the side of Kimchi, there's something wrong. We had the Soy Garlic chicken and the Korean Tacos, with a side of Kimchi and coleslaw. I'll rank the food in order from best to worst, Kimchi, Korean Tacos, Coleslaw, Soy Garlic Chicken. I'm sorry, but that Soy Garlic Chicken is not very good at all. The name implies that it's a savory chicken, but it's more of a tangy sweet. I'm guessing they use sweet soy sauce and not standard soy sauce. I get it, some people probably go here specifically for that flavor, but to me it's not good. So the chicken was a letdown, especially when you have Fire Wings in town. The side of Kimchi and the Korean tacos were our favorite. But as I mentioned above, the Kimchi was definitely the best part of the meal. Which is good for me since my girlfriend doesn't like Kimchi, so it was all mine. Korean tacos had good flavor, nothing to really write home about. The coleslaw was merely decent. The best Bonchon in the Sacramento area. Two new locations have opened up in Natomas and also one in Howe Bout Arden, but the original will always be the best. If you're going for their chicken, then drumsticks are the best because it's always juicy on the inside which gives it a lot of flavor. We always get half soy garlic and half spicy because you cant go one without the other. The tteotbokki has a kick into it and make sure you are ready for that hot blast in your mouth and make sure there's a filled water cup next to you because you're going to need it. A little bummed that they dont have the noodles anymore added into the tteotbokki but it's still amazingly good with hot spicy flavor. I tend to skip out of Bonchon when I'm in this plaza because of Leatherby's but I think it's worth it if you go. For example, I think their lunch options are totally affordable for the chicken and a complimentary side. I'm a big fan of the chicken strips half soy garlic and half spicy. If you aren't too good with spicy like my mom is I would stick to the soy garlic which is just as flavorful. I also enjoyed the pork buns because the steam bun was light and pillowy while the pork had a nice crunch. However, the pork buns are my only favorite appetizers from this place so go for the pork buns because the shumai was a bit off to me. It was off to me because there was some honey mustard sauce to it and I didn't enjoy it or the salmon ball either. But honestly, come for the chicken it's packed filled with flavor. read more

We ordered their seasoned fries, fried chicken (5 drum sticks and 10 wings) split spicy and sou garlic flavor they had, the bogolgi sliders, bogolgi soft tacos, Kim chi coleslaw and Kim Chi. The season fries you can't go wrong with. Pretty typical. The chicken is a must try and what they are known for. It was very crispy and not over battered like KFC. The flavors were both very sweet. The 'spicy' flavor wasn't spicy at all. It was good but IMO nothing to special. To be honest flavor reminds me of the Jack Daniel sweet sauce at TGIF. Actually this place reminds me of TGIF but a smaller menu with a Korean twist. The bogolgi sliders were ok. They were really small (hence sliders). The meat was also sweet and it was in a hamburger patty shape instead of traditional bogolgi. It had a spicy mayo on the bun with pickles and I think cabbage. It comes with 3 sliders The tacos were good. It also came in 3 with traditional bogolgi like meat and garnished with veggies and a sauce. The Kim chi cabbage is garbage. Don't buy it. The Kim chi there is good, but for the price it's not worth it (3 bucks I think) for a small portion. I'd spend my money ordering something else. You can get a container of that stuff for about 5 bucks somewhere else. Over all I would come back to try to chicken again. Nothing I would crave or rave about. In general the food was pretty good but I love the Salmon Avocado ball, seasoned fries, and the Soy Garlic Fried Chicken. If you order spicy make sure you can handle spicy food because it definitely is spicy! The spicy rice cake was a lil different for me cuz it has cheese in it. The line is long but you just gotta swing by and put your name on the list then go about your business. They will text you when your table is ready and you can reply if you still want to come or not then you have 15 mins to get there. I love the food here, never really had any issues. But today my parents went to Bonchon to pick up lunch at the EG Laguna Blvd location. They went inside to place the order in person and aren't too familiar with the place/menu. They ordered the family meal and my mom wanted to make sure she chose the right options and called me on the phone. As she does this, the cashier: Jaymie rolls her eyes and is visibly annoyed that my parents had to call me. She was not friendly, did not smile, and rolling her eyes were uncalled for. My parents are older and aren't always quick on their phone. But they definitely felt the body language and rudeness of this cashier. My mom didn't say anything to her about it but i wish she did. She was upset and told me about it after and even felt bad that she called me to confirm what i wanted and said she shouldn't have. It's not ok for her to feel that way because of rude customer service. My mom even said it wasn't busy and no one was in line behind her. read more

I would recommend this place to everyone in the area. My husband and I drove out for this place based on the reviews and the novelty of Korean fried chicken (KFC??). The place was pretty full on a Wednesday night with families (who we later saw having dessert at the Leatherby's ice cream parlor across the parking lot). Observing other groups, we chose to eat tapas-style by ordering multiple appetizers and an order of chicken wings. Everything we tried was tasty! The spicy chicken wings were too spicy for me, but they have a garlic soy sauce which is wonderful and heat-free. The fried chicken is made to order. It comes out in a perfectly crisped state. Please make your chicken order as soon as you can and worry about the rest of your order once you settle in. The chicken can take 30 minutes if they're slammed. The servers are used to taking multiple orders through the course of your meal. On that note, we have had the same sweet female server each time we visit. My family loves this place. I've tried both the spicy and garlic flavor. I love the garlic flavor because it still has enough spice, but with the yummy flavor. The spicy flavor is a little too spicy for me, and I can eat spicy food. So we usually order their wings in the garlic flavor, the japchae and fries. Unless you're eating AT the restaurant, I suggest you to NOT order the japchae because it clumps together in the package when you take it home. It was hard to eat it, since the noodles would not unstick from each other. The chicken is delicious. Crispy enough and the sauce coats the chicken enough to give it the delicious flavor. This is probably the best Bonchon location from the other ones I've been to around the area. The spicy chicken wings will really hit you! So be ready for a lot of water and pickle radish if you like them. Also the soy garlic flavor is pretty good but I prefer the spicy ones. I'm kicking myself for not finding this place sooner. We ordered to-go with curbside pickup (because Covid...), and the online process was so easy and quick. We got the chicken wings + drums (the soy flavor), and honestly fell in the top-5 pieces of fried chicken I've ever eaten in my life. For the drums, I was expecting little drumettes like you may get at a typical restaurant-- nope. They're full size, and also awesome. I wasn't expecting much from our potsticker appetizer, but somehow these were also above and beyond delicious. I have to admit-- the only downside to the meal was the coleslaw-- it was just the basic American-style tiny shredded cabbage with a ton of mayonnaise-based sauce, but it was just a little side, and everything else made up for it. I've heard alot about this place and I can't figure out why. I had the salmon ball which was good. My wife and her friend had wings and they were both hammered by the cooking and dry. The spicy was really hot but no flavor to distinguish what spice they used. Wife had basic version and just really no flavor. They would make more money if they sold single pieces. I've had Bonchon before at other locations and have had a great experience. Today's experience is strictly based on the food from this location, not the service. I ordered quite a few things and upon getting home, I noticed a very thick stench from the food. I tried disregarding the smell and began trying the wings but couldn't get passed my second wing due to the odor. Not sure if it was the oil being used or what could've gone bad, but the food gave off a horrible "raw" smell. The fried rice also had the same smell. This place is only ok...nothing on the menu look that appetizing. Came here with friends on a early Sunday evening. The line they had was out the door to put your name on the waiting list. There was two hostess to greet you and take your name down. Both were pretty nice. When we were able to put our names down, we were told that it was about an hour wait. We decided to wait because not all of our party were there yet...there was a bar on the side of the restaurant...thought we could order drinks while we wait...we can't. This part was a little irritating because we kinda wanted a drink, and there was a waitress behind the bar who kind of ignored us. She wasn't that busy at the moment. She could have told us that the drinks were for dine in guest. Nope...we stood around for about 5 mins before one of the hostess approached us to tell us that we couldn't order. There were several guest at the bar who I'm sure were annoyed by our presence next to them while they were dining. This could have been avoided had the waitress said something instead of ignore us. When we got our table...we already knew what we had wanted. Took a while before we got our orders taken. When it came to me ordering, I tried to order the chicken katsu dish. I was told that they were out?? After an hour service...already out of the dish. So I changed my order to chicken strips and with a side of popcorn chicken. Chicken strips were ok....had a lot of chicken meat...but was on the dry side. Popcorn chicken was too salty. Overall impression was that I wasn't impressed. Nothing stood out for me. I love this place. Good service and excellent food. The wings with either sauce won't let you down. I ordered the salmon avocado ball as suggested by other Yelp reviewers and I ended up scarfing the whole thing down in like 10 seconds. It's awesome. Their bulgogi wasn't that great the last time I ordered it... but maybe it was just an off day. I like that they have ddeokbokki (is that how it's spelled?) on the menu. The good- the chicken is damn good! Like crunch in your mouth, smack your lips good! I personally love the soy glaze a little more than the spicy but only because the spicy is like REALLY spicy. Like, 'better keep some bread nearby' spicy. The price was also fantastic to feed all of us (2 adults, 2 teenagers, and 2 littles)!! The customer service was amazing too! I pulled right into stall 1 and called the number on the sign. They came right out with my order, not missing a thing, and also included hand wipes! The bad - the parking lot is not the best... also I get a little aggro that every time we go, my littles won't eat because they are too busy exclaiming how they want ice cream from Learherby's (which is in view from the window). Service here is a little quicker than previous Bon Chons we've visited...maybe we caught them at a good time (Sunday lunch). The Bulgogi fried rice and Soy Garlic strips came out quickly and hot, and tasted great. The rice had a little more oil than the last Bon Chon we went to but tasted fantastic. Beer offerings were fine and they even had a few ciders. I don't know what they did to their chicken but it doesn't seem like it's the same as a year or two ago... I spent 15 dollars on a ten piece and it looked like I got 10 lil chicken nuggets. It's fr a recession I guess I really felt like this was an impoverished meal for a chimney sweep. They were about the size of McDonald's nuggets. The chicken used to be so much bigger and a nicer cut of chicken that was more juicy and delicious. Idk what kinda cheap chicken they using now but I shoulda gone to McDonald's fr This chicken was over cooked and undercooked??? I got a piece that was mushy and then another piece that was really hard. MY GOODNESS! For the longest after this place opened, I've been wanting to try it out. I never had the chance to, but about a month after giving birth, I FINALLY DID! I just had my babygirl in late December and tried this place out in February. After trying it, I was hooked! This place is legit! Food can be pricey, but it's SO worth the money! Fiancé and I came here with our new baby girl and we ordered: 1. Spicy Chicken Korean Tacos 2. Pork Buns 3. Seasoned Fries 4. Small order of Wings with half and half (soy garlic/spicy) Spicy chicken tacos -- BOMB! Since I didn't eat many spicy things during my pregnancy, it was quite spicy to me. I ate one and I gave the rest to my fiancé. If I was able to eat it, I would have ate the whole thing and not saved any for him. He enjoyed it as well! 3 tacos per order and it was a good size taco as well. Pork buns -- DELICIOUS! This was one of my favorites. Although quite small, it was seriously so tasty! It's basically on a rice bun with a slice of pork belly, cucumber, coleslaw, and spicy mayo. I ate two out of the 3 that came in the order and saved one for Lou.
