On a Friday night at 5:30pm in early September, we got a table and waited 15 min to get a menu. The server was everywhere (scattered) of picking food from the kitchen, talking to customers, taking take out orders, etc. At first I wanted to leave, but hubby wanted to eat wings. So we stuck it out. We ordered spicy wings and soy garlic drumsticks with bulgogi fried rice and endamane. The food was good and tvs everywhere. Then we got the wrong bill for wrong table.

The variety of food. Korean food paradise and a bar? Doesn't get better than that! Kimbap, Tteokbokki, fried rice, fried chicken, bulgogi. All of this in one menu. I loved it. I had the wings and bulgogi fries and it was delicious. Going back to try everything on the menu. The staff were very attentive. Parking is tight especially during busy hours!

4/25/26 Trying Korean fried chicken for the first time

4/25/26 Korean Fried Chicken (Mixed 6 PC: 4Wings + 2 Drums)-- thought I'd give it a try--why the heck not!? Best decision tonight! Cute spot at this plaza in San Gabriel where two of my other favorite shops are located, Old Ferry Donut & Paris Baguette. I was warmly greeted as soon as I walked in and I asked how long would it take if I were to order fried chicken? The friendly young man at the counter quoted 15 minutes. There's indoor dining but most of the orders I saw the time I was waiting were for takeout. The playlist was bumpin'- music you can dance to. The camaraderie between staff was charming and genuine. Parking is free and would probably be challenging during peak hours. In about 7 1/2 minutes my order was up-- that was pretty quick ! Off I went to take it home, excited to try this chicken for the first time! Oh, me oh my! Still warm, crispy, crunchy, slightly sweet and spicy. It was simply delicious, full of flavor, my kind of fried chicken!! I'm glad I requested for the pickled radish. That was the perfect side dish for this fried chicken. Highly likely to return & try other items, I'm eyeing the Japchae.

Bonchon SGV is having a special dine-in weekday promo going on: $1 wings! Enjoy up to 15pc wings for only $15 :) We got the sweet & garlicky soy garlic and slightly spicy & tangy yangnyeom flavors. They also offer other flavors like classic crunch, which pairs perfectly with the creamy spicy mayo sauce! The wings were perfectly crispy and juicy. We also ordered the Seoul Sampler with bulgogi french fries, chicken wings, corn cheese, veggie dumplings, and coleslaw! They also offer bulgogi bibimbap and sotteok, featuring savory rice cakes and sausages. Such a perfect shareable with a little bit of everything for everyone to enjoy! They also added some must-try new menu items like the k-chicken sandwich and refreshing cucumber salad. Such a nice change from the usual and definitely worth trying! I'd highly recommend trying this place out :)

Why is it that each time I come here, something goes wrong? I honored my cravings for wings and dined in since they had their promotion for 1$ wings. Partner and I did not wait very long and seated shortly. The place was packed and it was understaffed, so service was a miss. There was another party that got their order in, their food came out shortly, but they were seated after us. Partner was starting to get irritated by the delays. We had our order taken and given the lowdown of how ordering works: you're only allowed to order the promotion first. Additional orders for wings means you pay their regular price. 12 pieces was enough to feed us, but they didn't include their big fat drumsticks. Our fries came out after the wings for some reason, and that was a bit of the wait. We didn't even get plates upon seating lol. At least the food was good, but it was chaotic from start to finish.

Came here for lunch and had the $1 wings. I had 5 soy garlic and 5 kbbq. I liked the kbbq better due to it having more flavor. Mon-thur $1 wings come check it out!

Service is inconsistent. Visited here multiples for the $1 wings deal and also few times without any deals. They have a policy of not being able to add on wings if you don't order it in the beginning which they don't always enforce so it's confusing. If you don't order with the deal the wings come out to about $2 per wing so the deal is def good value. However, you order by piece and there's no pickled radish included. Without the deal, the pieces go by multiples of 8 so 8pc,16pc, 24 pc and the radish is included. The guy with the mustache, silver chain, and accent was very friendly and I appreciated his attitude. However. another guy with braids seemed very over his shift or whatever it was, he just seemed very tired. While taking our order, we asked if cucumber salad could be on the side of the chicken sandwich. to which he answered no they cannot bc the portion is different (?) idk why that would matter and maybe it's not even his fault but it was the way he was talking to us. I understand. it's probably pretty busy bc of the promotion and the employees do not get paid that much more to work during the promotion, but i just wish his attitude was more friendly! It's a little off putting and deters me from wanting to visit again. with that being said, the food is good and they are attentive, even if without friendliness. i love their soy garlic sauce, the chicken is very crispy and satisfying. but bf got the chicken sandwich and said it wasn't that great. they have a few games to play like a big connect 4 outside and mini foosball table inside and some other games near the restroom area. I would give this more of a 3.5 but i'll round up, I do enjoy the promotion and they have a loyalty program with the "stampme" app now but you cannot get stamps during promotion days

Been meaning to come by to try them out for a while now, I'm glad to have had a chance to eat here today. The vibe is pretty chill, the service was friendly and excellent. I ordered 10 of their $1.00 wing + soda I should have ordered the max of 15 wings, (5 soy garlic and 5 Yangnyeom) both taste good!, I may also order their fries next time. The place has a sports bar kind of vibe and kept clean

It seems like they're running promotions like $1 wing because they're trying to increase business . I tried to come in and was going to miss last seating. I called to be considerate. They were not willing to seat me and were using that to reject letting me order at promo price. Like I'm willing to tip as if I'm dining in and I'm willing to bounce to let the staff go home. Seems strange to turn away business. EDIT: so instead of internally forwarding the concern, you had me go through a bunch of form replies for a canned response reply from corporate. Smh

Great service! The waiter was so friendly. They also had a $1 wing special going on while we were there only available for dine in. They had the baseball games going on the multiple TVs while we ate and it was a good time! Parking can be a little hard as it's a busy plaza.

Lunch special: 2 drum sticks and 3 wings with side of pickles.

Came here today for lunch...get here when they open...because the tables fill up quickly. Thankfully I got there when they did open. The staff was and is very friendly...to all the customers...the staff was very accommodating and took care of everyone. They are great. They have a great menu and a lunch-special menu...I ordered from the lunch-special menu. I guess the negative...if there is one, this is one of many restaurants that offer chicken with lots of flavors to add and it's expensive. There are sooooo many chicken places offering hot and spicy chicken or Korean fusion or tex-mex...you know what I mean...so many specialty chicken places that for some reason, charge an arm and a leg for a wing and a leg. See what I did there! All that being said, Bonchon's chicken is very good. I'd eat here again. I can get a great meal at El Pollo Loco and spend less...and once in a while spoil myself and spend more to eat here. I hope you understand my review...with tax and tip, just water and lunch special, $20.00. To be fair...it's getting expensive to eat out everywhere even for chicken. In close...come to this location you won't be disappointed.

Recently went to bonchon for the first time after years. It is better than I remember. I ordered online which was super easy and got a combo which was 4 wings, 2 drumsticks, and a side of your choice of cold slaw, rice, or radish. I picked rice and chose soy garlic. Total was $13.99 +0.99 convenience fee and $1.47 tax...didn't realize there was a convenience fee until looking at it now but don't love that. I might've ordered from a third party but I thought it was their website. Food was better than I remember. It was pretty crunchy and tasty exterior, however I remember the interior meat was okay. I think I prefer bbq chicken the chain more, but it is down main street so a bit further for me. Service was great - it was a quick interaction since I just went to pickup but the cashier told me they were doing $1 wings the month of January 2026 (?) for dine in only on weekdays I believe. I would've done that had I known! Didn't experience much ambiance since I got to go but it was chill and not crowded, but I went on a random Wednesday afternoon. I would go again out of convenience, but not my favorite Korean fried chicken spot for sure.

Had dinner here after a long day in the office. Nothing beats a cold beer and some Korean fried wings! Great timing too, it was $1 wings special. Once we walked in we were greeted and seated shortly. Service is always great here and it's a nice and clean Korean fried chicken spot. I love coming here. My friend even cheated on her gluten free diet just to eat here lol.

Bonchon San Gabriel Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Bonchon San Gabriel

    Are the chicken wings breaded?

Yes. Korean style breading then dipped again and fried again. Delicious.

What's time is your last seating? I was standing in line around 8:28 pm today 3/31 then staff attended to me at 8:30 and was told I can only order to go. I've come at least a couple occasions and was still seated at 8:30.

Hi Vicky, thanks for taking the time to write and provide feedback on this experience. Our store policy has been for new walk in customers looking to dine in, we cut off 30 mins before closing in order to allow our kitchen sufficient lead time to…

Do you have a drive thru?

there's no drive thru ... place your order online, park and run in to grab your food

Do you have party tray price?

Hi Tom, No sorry, we are a franchise operation and corporate does not have any party tray options on…

Is your fried chicken gluten free?

No sorry, our traditional recipe calls for the chicken to be coated in flour before it is twice fried in vegetable oil.

Are you guys open on Veterans Day?

Yes, we have been open every year for Veteran’s day. Sorry for the delay on the response. We always try to do our best to keep the Yelp site updated with current hours.

You still offer the family meal? I don't see it on the website

Yes, try ordering online at Bonchon.order.com or try using the new Bonchon app!

Hi. Do you still offer the family meal?

    Yes we do.

    Is your chicken halal?

No sorry. We prepare our chicken in a traditional twice fry process the true Korean way!

Is your fried chicken free of any fish or seafood sauce? I want to order but someone in my party is allergic to seafood and seaweed.

We don’t use any fish or seafood sauce in the preparation of our chicken. It is fried using soybean oil.

Is it actually going to reopen on July 10? Before it said it's going to reopen on July 1, but it didn't.

Hi Isabelle, we are pushing back our reopen date to Mon 7/13. My apologies for the inconvenience but that is a pretty firm date now at this point. We appreciate your patronage and hope to see you soon!

Is the food safe if you have a peanut allergy? Do you cook with peanut oil or have peanut related ingredients in the kitchen? Thank you!

We use soybean oil to fry our chicken and for all stir fry dishes, e.g. fried rices, japchae. We do not use whole or chopped peanuts in any other dishes. Hope this answers your question!

Can you get plain fried chicken without any sauce?

Yes absolutely, we just cannot provide any of the proprietary sauces on the side as the Franchise does not allow that.

Still open for takeout during COVID-19?

Yes, we are still offering take-out. And I am trying my hardest to get set up for third party deliveries, e.g. Grubhub, DoorDash, etc.

Why are you close on Super Bowl Sunday?

We have made a personal business decision to close our store EVERY Sunday. Our family worships on Sundays and we wanted to afford our staff the same opportunity if they so desire. Additionally, we felt that it was important to have a consistent day…

    How much is corkage?

We do not really have an established policy as we have never had any customers request us to bring in their own alcohol. What are you thinking of bringing in and is it some kind of special occasion?

How is it compare to the Bomb Chicken in Monterey Park?

I like Bomb Chicken more. My SO likes Bonchon more partly because it can be made spicier. Bonchon is also a larger place with a more restaurant feel rather than fast food and has way better service.

    Are you open for today(05/27/2019)?

    Yes we are!

Do your clothes/hair smell after consuming the food here?

No, it's not like a Korean bbq place where the food is cooked right in front of you on a grill, and I believe the kitchen is behind closed doors. The food is not that pungent. No need to worry about smelliness!

What are your hours for Christmas Eve? When's the last time you'll take takeout orders?

Unfortunately, I think that Ookook is in a sunset right now…read more We haven't visited Ookook for approximately a year or so now, and the previous time we visited we were pleasantly surprised that the food was still so good and tasted great. So since we were finally back in town, we decided to stop in to one of our old favorite haunts. There were definitely some highlights, but there were other issues that made our visit come up extremely short. We were surprised that the Yelp Waitlist indicated that there was only a 5 minute wait time on the Friday before a holiday 3-day weekend. When we arrived, there definitely was no wait and a table was drawn up immediately. After we were sat, we visited the typical sides/veggies/galbi jjim bar. When fishing out the galbi jjim, I noticed that the ribs appeared to be in a very, very oily sauce. The good thing was that at least the meat it still tasted the same. I remember in times past, I used to love their fish cake banchan and would order it several times. This time, however, the fish cake was pretty bland and cut in smaller pieces, which felt very strange to me. Furthermore, the cucumber kimchi tasted sour as opposed to the slight sweetness that I've come to expect after eating at other Korean places. The mash potato was not seasoned either and some of the other banchan from the buffet bar was also just mediocre. This was the first time that we realized that the food had definitely changed at Ookook. Our first round of meat was spicy beef brisket, beef belly, and LA Galbi. The spicy beef brisket was lacking a bit in the spicy sauce and was dry due to not being fatty enough. One of the pieces of the LA galbi was fine, but the other was very fatty. Whoever cut the LA galbi did a mediocre job because small pieces of the rib bone were still stuck in the meat causing an unpleasant eating experience. Even in spite of this, the LA galbi was the best meat of the night. Our second round of meat was the marinated beef chuck, bulgogi, and more LA Galbi. Just like the first round, one of the galbi ribs was much fattier than the other and also had small bones embedded in pieces of the meat. The bulgogi was a little light, but tasted mostly like it did before, so no major complaints here. The marinated beef chuck was an interesting cut since I've never seen it served like that before, but it felt like I was eating an imitation marinated boneless short rib with a much more gamey taste. This was pretty bad. Our third round, was more LA galbi, and spicy beef belly. The ribs were both finally meaty and seemed to be cut well and to give credit the spicy beef belly actually tasted like the marinade of old. The problem is that the food here used to be extraordinary. The banchan was something we kept wanting to eat despite it being a filler. IMO, fillers being bad is indicative of a huge issue with the quality and taste of a buffet as those types of dishes are what you want your customers to focus on eating. Furthermore, the quality of the cuts of meat were some of the best and made it very easy to choose Ookook in SG rather than going all the way to K-town. It is evidently clear that something changed between either the quality of the meat, the management of the restaurant, or something else internally that is affecting the overall quality of the food at the restaurant. As for service, it was nothing short of excellent. Literally 5 stars. The front of the house does great. The wait staff was very attentive, accommodating, and very nice. It was great to see some old faces and it was definitely the best part of the experience. To my favorite waiter/waitress (unnamed in case there's blowback on this review), service has never been an issue and it's always a pleasure for the both of us to see you! Anyway, even though it might be a sunset so far, it doesn't mean that the sun doesn't eventually rise. I sincerely hope that Ookook is able to improve their food so that the quality and attention to taste comes back very soon.

I almost always order the Galbitang-it's light and comforting without feeling heavy, arrives hot and generously filled with beef. My boys went with the pork cutlet, which was perfectly crispy and paired with a delicious tangy katsu sauce. As a nice finishing touch, we appreciated the complimentary Yakult-like yogurt drink. Parking is plentiful in the back lot, making it an easy stop. If you're craving warm, comforting Korean soul food, this places hits the spot!!!

Every soup I've tried has been incredibly bland and lacks the deep, rich beef or pork flavor that you would expect. There's just no depth or boldness to the broth, which is especially disappointing for a restaurant where the soup is supposed to be the main focus. I came here again today with a group of coworkers, all of whom are Korean, with the majority of us having grown up in Korea. Unfortunately, we all had the exact same reaction. None of us enjoyed the soup, and the overwhelming complaint was that everything tasted bland. Even the kimchi was disappointing. The radish kimchi lacked the crisp, crunchy texture it should have, and the regular kimchi was missing the strong, punchy flavor you would expect. The interior is also very bare-bones and feels like the restaurant was opened with the bare minimum needed to operate. That alone wouldn't bother me if the food made up for it, but unfortunately, it doesn't. It's honestly disappointing because I feel like so many Korean restaurants that open in the SGV end up falling short, and unfortunately, this place is another one that falls into that category. After multiple visits, I can't say I've had a meal here that made me want to come back.

The wings are a dry sweet rub as opposed to a sticky one. The flavor is super unique and the crunch of the wings is delicious 10 soy garlic wings ($20) The soy garlic wings are just okay compared to the honey butter wings. I didn't feel like there was as much flavor as I wanted. I like the the wings were a decent size and had a lot of crispy crunch Mayak Gimbap ($15) Unlike the typical kimbap rolls, these ones are individually rolled and stuffed with carrot radish spinach fishcake and rice. It was super yummy but a bit pricey. Disclaimer. I ordered through DoorDash which is why the prices are higher. It's definitely cheaper if you order in store.
