    Dry chicken

Overnight refried chicken. Extremely dry. Ordered for 3 drums + 6 wings. Came with 3 drums + 6 small drums. 3 drums were barely edible. Small drums are not edible.

Final Thoughts: 4.47/5 We've been to Bon Chon lots of times now. This is my first time coming to this specific location though. Apparently this is their first location, but no one quote me on that. Simple lunch/dinner meal. Overall, good experience from beginning to end. Food: Mixed 6 Wings and 3 Drumsticks: 4.5/5 Personal preference for me is the combination of drumsticks and wings, so you get a little bit of everything. These flavors are also a fave for me. We got half yangnyeom and half soy garlic today. The yangnyeom sauce is one of their newer flavors that I've tried. Similar to soy garlic, but with a Korean sweet and spicy kick. Quite umami; nice balance of sweet, salty, and spicy. For the garlic soy, this is always a solid option for me since it is one of the original flavors. The flavor is like a teriyaki sauce. Sweet sticky soy sauce with the flavor of garlic mixed in. That combined with the crispy chicken is really good. My one note though is that I don't think the chicken itself is seasoned enough before frying. This means that all of the flavor is on the outside skin. Once you get to the actual meat of the chicken, there's not much flavor on it at all. Perhaps this is where some additional dipping sauces will help. It's not too big of a concern because the coating of sauce on the outside does a really nice job with adding flavor, but it was just something that I've consistently observed. The chicken is also very crispy. My friend mentioned that the batter and outside crust seems to be thicker. Small note, but something I do appreciate is that they specifically label which sauce is which with a little toothpick "flag". This is genuinely what I need because I can usually never tell which items are which when given to me all at once or on the same plate. Fried Shrimp Shumai: 4.0/5 Simple appetizer item for us. They give you the option for steamed or fried and we went with the fried option today for that crisp. Quite nice presentation. The dumplings are placed on a bed of shredded cabbage with spicy mayo and soy garlic sauce. The flavors work quite nicely together. Perhaps the shrimp was too finely chopped because there wasn't really a bite or crunch to any big pieces of shrimp. That or the dumplings were too small to have those bigger pieces be filled inside. The sauces were nice. Spicy mayo was very light. Just a slight kick to it. Soy garlic was flavor was also very light and contributes nicely as a sauce. For texture, I like the different components. The cabbage added some crunch and a little freshness to it that we could eat with the dumplings. The shumai was also very crispy and it wasn't hard or dry. Coleslaw: 2.9/5 This is one of their complimentary sides. This or the pickled radish. Personally, I like the radish for that tartness and crunch. We did go with coleslaw today. It wasn't bad. I'm just not too fond of the excess liquid that pools. Flavor gave the meal some freshness. The veggies added another texture component too. --------- Quality: Aight They quality is alright. When the chicken and shumai came out, both items were not piping hot like they just came out of the frier. It felt more as if it came from out of the food warmer. Perhaps I would be more alright with this and can pass this off if the place were packed and very busy, but it wasn't at the time that we went. Usually the chicken would be hot to touch, but it wasn't and that goes the same for the shumai. Not that I would want to burn my tongue, but temperature does affect quality for me. Price: Depends; could lean both ways It'll depend on what you get. Again, this was a simple lunch/dinner meal, so we really didn't eat that much. For the three of us, it was $39 total including tax and tip. If you do decide to get other or more items, it might end up leaning on the more expensive side. Service: Pleasant Our waitress was very sweet and cute. We were able to sit where we liked perhaps because it wasn't super busy at the time. She refilled our waters, got our food items out as they were done, and checked on us. Ambiance: Late night adventure vibes Typical little fried chicken restaurant. This is honestly the scene that I imagine for a late night adventure. Dim interior, quite spacious, and just enough tables to fill the space with optimal room to walk between the tables and seats. I like their choice of music because they were playing BTS. Anything with BTS shall always be my preference. Location/Parking: Spacious It's located inside of a plaza and right at the corner of the top right corner of the side when you're looking from the street inward. There are some other restaurants and shop in this plaza and the plaza across too. Parking was not an issue on a Sunday before Labor Day and at midafternoon time. I'm not sure if the holidays affected this, but there are many spaces left in this parking lot when we got there. We definitely don't go here often enough to judge, but perhaps it'll depend on the time and day though.

Had a large order of the Soy Garlic Wings to snack on with the family before my son's baseball game. I enjoy the light, crispy batter on their wings with that sweet, savory glaze. I forgot someone had recommended I get them double glazed, which definitely would have taken these wings to another level as the flavor was lacking a little. Next time I want to try those Bulgogi Fries which looked delicious, with of course some wings double glazed. Service was friendly. Our order was out within 15 minutes, which was a plus as we needed to get to the game.

An old, poor tasting "chicken strip".

I've been eating here for all my 13 years in Silicon Valley. Tonight's dinner will be my last time eating here. From the last time, maybe 2 months ago, the sizes of everything has gotten smaller, which I wouldn't mind as much if the food tasted the same; tonight's food was awful. I only eat white meat chicken and what I got tonight, tasted like a cheap knock off. The last strip that I had fell apart in the first bite, it wasn't fresh at all and tasted simply, like old chicken.

Chicken strips with the soy and garlic sauce
    Peter N.

The chicken strips with the soy and garlic sauce, with the Korean coleslaw was incredibly delicious. It had that slightly sweet, really savory, crispy flavor and texture. I'm so confused how anyone could eat that and have anything to complain about. This was literally the best chicken I've had in over a year, and I go to restaurants at least 2 times per week. It was fantastic!

Ordered a few times via Doordash. Price is reasonable. Some flavor is a little too sweet. Soy Garlic is my go-to option.

    Hours of Service

Arrived at 8:50pm. Hours state that they are open until 9pm. Staff told me that the kitchen is already closed. Please change your hours of operation to reflect the hours you will actually be opened and serving guests until. Not a good business model to turn away paying customers during your posted hours of service.

Delicious Korean chicken place! Have been here a few times and it never disappoints. Staffs are super friendly and they told us we can choose how many pieces we want for one sauce and then for the other sauce. Ambiance: few tables inside. They get quite busy even for a weekday night. Lots of people getting to-go too. Huge parking lot outside so easy to find a spot.

Bonchon standing on business as per usual at this location - the chicken and onion rings were both delightfully crispy. The rice was not dry. The spicy mayo was kicking! Radish was delicious too. Service was great! Ambience is casual and chill. Still my favorite Bonchon!

Medium half half (garlic soy & spicy) with radish, coldslaw and bowl of steamed rice
    Annie K.

Mm delicious fried chicken for din din! There wasnt anyone really there when we arrived around 7pm wed evening but it started filling up a bit later on. I really enjoyed the service here, our server greeted us and helped us with the menu and was patient with our order and checked up on us after the food was delivered. We got the medium half and half with pickled radish and cold slaw included sides and added steamed rice. It came out pretty quickly and was crispy and piping hot. The spicy i think was my fav but wow it can get spicy with the hot temperature as well! I love the combo with the pickled radish and rice. The soy garlic is a good non- spicy option but just not as fun for me since it's not spicy. I noticed they have yang yum flavoring as well which i would like to try next time!! Food good, service great, would def b back!!

    Happy hour

I love Bon Chon. I've been eating here for years. They used to be very busy but recently it's not as busy, maybe because they opened other locations. I always order Small wings half & half with radish and potstickers half & half (spicy and garlic soy). That's enough for 2 people. They're both very good!! I like the flavors. I wish they are more generous with the sauce because that's the best part and sometimes the wings aren't covered fully with sauce. Spicy flavor is actually spicy (not white spicy) so you might not want to order it if you can't handle spicy food. They recently introduced a new flavor called Yang Yum. It's more flavorful than the 2 existing flavors and way less spicy. I'll select just this flavor next time.

Bon Chon's lunch special is the way to go! 3 drums or 6 wings + a side for $10.99! (Rice extra)

I can't believe I haven't done a review for Bonchon... it's long over due. First off it's Korean fried chicken with other tasty dishes. You must try the chicken!!! That's what I primarily come here for! Their hand battered crispy double fried chicken has the right amount of crunch and flavor! I'm a simple guy and just go with the soy garlic. Gimme a side of dicon, and a bowl of rice and I'm set! Prices are reasonable and if u are able to go during lunch time, Bon Chon's lunch special is the way to go! 3 drums or 6 wings + a side for $10.99! (Rice extra) Service is fast paced but the dining room packs up quick, phone orders is definitely a great option.

Ask the Community - Bonchon Sunnyvale

What kind of oil do they use for deep frying?

Hi Eugene! We use soybean oil. We hope to see you soon!

    Is it halal chicken?

No it's Korean double fried chicken

    Is there outdoor dining?

No, there isn't any outdoor dining.

Is Bonchon Sunnyvale open for dine in?

YES! Bonchon Sunnyvale is now open for dine in!

Do they have gluten free menu?

Is Bonchon chicken free range, organic, and/or air chilled?

If they don't buy air-chilled birds, they very likely do their own air chilling, just considering how crispy they get their chicken skin.

Do they put msg in the chicken?

The Bonchon here in Sunnyvale answered this question on their Twitter by stating "their might be MSG in our chicken." It's a little vague but you assume that's a yes if it's not a straight no

When will you have the fried calamari again?

    Going to order it too

Do they have boneless wings? How about fish sticks?

Yes to boneless wings but no fish sticks, at least as of a few months ago.

The broth is the best part, you can season it to your own taste but the base itself is already pretty great! Very savory. The bossam took a while to come out, and by then we were already pretty full off of the pancake, soup and bibimbap. Service sizes are generous, and this definitely would've been enough for 4+ people to share. There was a great assortment of different banchan - my favorite is the jelly! The pancake was nice and crispy, with a good amount of seafood, the bibimbap had a great amount of crispy rice at the bottom and the tofu soup was comforting and exactly what we were looking for. The bossam had a lot of meat - I kind of wished there was more radish and napa to go with the meat, but it was tender, not too fatty, and satisfying. We had plenty of leftovers to take home. Jang su jang is still a classic staple, and has a delicious offering for almost any korean craving you could want. It's a little pricey, but comparable to other options in the area with consistent quality that makes it worth it in my opinion.

If I were to order again for the same group of friends (4 people total), I would order 해물 파전, 돌솥 비빔밥, 청담 갈비, 양념갈비, and 눈꽃살. I think its close to the amount of food that we ordered, but a little more affordable and some (superior) substitutions. The staff was friendly and efficient which was fantastic. I got to meet the owner/manager, he seems like a kind and friendly gentleman. I want to come back more often for the 해물 파전 and 양념갈비. I made this review to express my excitement over this restaurant and for my future reference.

I think I've been sleeping on some traditional Korean food. I thought i had a good grasp of what…read morewas good and what was a pass for me. Today was a new experience. This marks my first day having real Soondae. I had it twice before around the El Camino Koreatown area but it was always too light, cold, no flavor.. But here at JangTu, i found the one i love. It was warm, soft and delectable. Normally i love Jokbal over everything but the Soondae was better than the Jokbal to me. Even then, the Jokbal had good flavor. FYI, we mixed it with the Raboki sauce.... heaven! Great service! Super nice and attentive! Made the experience great! Also got the Octopus Intestine Soup, but i do think personally prefer Gamjatang more. I will come back to get it next time With hot soup and heavy cuts of meat, of course gotta get NangMyeon! Washed it all down like a refreshing soda! Great time, will be back for my 2nd time soon
