I don't live in Coronado but wanted to order food for a sick friend who does live there. I called Boney's and spoke to Michelle. Boneys does not deliver but Michelle offered to do it herself. She sweetly and cheerfully helped me put together an order with several ready made meal items, wine and desert. Michelle refused to accept any fee or tip for delivery. There is nothing quite like an independent, local market. I can't wait to shop in person next time I am in Coronado. read more

I often go here when I want fresh fish and meat. This health food store is definitely pricey but it offers a great selection of health food for the size of the store. The only bad thing I have to say about boney's is that one time I bought a rotten coconut from here. Boney's has great sandwiches, even though I am sometimes worried about the general neatness behind the deli counter. It just seems a bit sloppy and in a disarray. Anyway, it's a great stop for some gourmet or healthy goodies when you're in Coronado. People who work there are really friendly, and I think it might be the only specialty shop of its kind over the bridge. Prices are high, but I guess that's all part of being in Coronado. read more

Boney's is great to run through if you need a specific item. Because their selection is very limited, I do the majority of my shopping at Costco and Trader Joe's, but come here for the cheese and meat selection which are both very good quality. The two things I despise about Boney's is: 1) Their produce is hit and miss and 2) their employees at the checkout counter need some intensive and extensive training in customer service. They all seem to be going through the motions and hating the fact that they are having to work for a living. It's almost depressing. Like most of the other one-star reviews, this one is also aimed towards the deli. Having been in the service industry myself for over 15 years, I understand some people simply do not care about the job they're doing and aren't pleasant. That's fine. But the deli area was completely trashed. I saw the deli worker scoop up trash off the ground while wearing gloves, then pulled a sandwich off the press with those same gloves. There was a knife on the floor for several minutes. I saw the same worker pick the knife up off the floor and place it back on the counter where they were making sandwiches. Straight off the floor. Then he cut a sandwich with it and GAVE IT TO THE CUSTOMER. I couldn't let that happen so I told the man and he asked to have it remade. The worker refused and denied any wrong doing. This deli needs to be shut down. I have filed a complaint with the health department. Do better!! This is how people get sick. read more

This is as close as you're gonna get to a Whole Foods, or even a Trader Joe's, in Coronado. They ARE pricey, probably because they know their niche. Had a Coronado Club sandwich, which at $5.95 is one of their correctly priced items. It had some minor flaws (no onions, somewhat bland, overpowering rosemary flavor of the ciabatta bread), but otherwise well-made. I also bought some almond croissants for $1.49 each. I'm glad it's here, even if $2.89 is totally ludicrous for an Acai drink. read more

Normally like this place but had a very unfortunate run in the other day regarding wearing masks. My elderly mother who has trouble breathing was wearing her mask under her nose but needed to buy groceries. She doesn't have symptoms or fever and wouldn't go out if she did. She was wearing a masks that says "Make America Great Again". She was sternly and rudely told (not asked) to put her mask above her nose. She's a woman who has always gone out of her way for others so it's sad when young people disrespect others, especially elderly by telling them what to do instead of asking respectfully. So, my mother refused, and both pulled their phones and the checker filing my mom threatened police and got the manager all the while telling my mom (a long time resident of Coronado) to get her mask over her nose and threatening police intervention. Totally unnecessary and completely inappropriate especially if management allows then remain employed. I look forward to their reponse here and am happy to review and and all details. read more

Overpriced? Really? I challenge the next reviewer to actually name what grocery items are so "overpriced" at Boney's. I used to shop here all the time before I moved and it really irked me when people knock the store for being too expensive. Is it the produce? Hell no. Boney's has amazing sales on their produce and even the regular prices are usually quite low. I've gotten 2 lbs of apples for $1, 8 limes for $1, 5 grapefruit for $1, 4 romaine lettuces for $1, etc. If you're really whining about how "overpriced" Boney's is, take a trip to Albertson's or Vons and compare the produce prices. It's probably double. Give credit where credit is due, please. It's not just the produce, either. Their drinks and sodas, like Sambazon energy drinks and Mexican Coke, were usually the lowest price I could find anywhere. Their frozen section is mostly the organic stuff like Amy's, but those brands are expensive wherever you go. The wine and beer section is reasonably priced, as well; I doubt they have much of a profit margin at all for such a small store. Then there's the deli. Their turkey wraps are the most inexpensive lunch (for the portion of food) that exists anywhere on the face of this earth. The damn thing weighs like 5 pounds, and it costs $4.95. I used to buy these all the time and they still haven't raised the price. If you were to take the turkey out and buy that separately, I'm sure it'd cost more than $4.95. I can't even finish the whole thing. Where in 2012 can you buy a lunch too big to finish for under $5, let alone in Coronado? NOWHERE. That being said, if you go to Boney's and buy the environmentally-friendly paper towels or tampons, you're doing it wrong. Yes, these are overpriced. If you buy mainstream brands like Cheerios, yes, these are overpriced. But Boney's has its niche and they know it well. Think of it as a small, family-owned Whole Foods. The smarter people come to Boney's for the great produce, deli items, and healthy foods for a great or decent price. The dumb tourists come to Boney's for toilet paper and soap, and they're probably subsidizing the low prices for the rest of us. read more

Boney's sandwiches from their deli are awesome. If you like bleu cheese, the roast beef with bleu cheese is amazing. I'm glad I visited, this island has some pretty mediocre food and we were stuck here for a conference. It's an awesome island, but it's hard to find simple delicious food. read more

Such a cute place!!! You HAVE to try the sandwiches at the deli!!!! The "island Baja" is BY FAR the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. I get it every Tuesday and Thursday and has yet to get old. It has salsalito turkey, pepper jack cheese, avocado, chipotle mayo, tomato all on foccocia bread then I substitute the cucumber and sprouts for lettuce and pickles. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. My first Yelp review after being a member for over 1 year. That's how noteworthy Boney's is. I've been going to Whole Foods for the last 10 years and Boney's addresses everything that I've grown tired of at Whole Foods. Firstly, their deli is *much* fresher than Whole Foods. Impressive. Their Sicilian White Bean Salad is the best of its type that I've had. Secondly, the store isn't too crowded - there's room to move around and you don't constantly have to walk around people. Thirdly, easy access. You just turn in from the street. It's not a hassle to get to the parking lot and you get to park really close to the entrance. Fourthly, check out time. At Whole Foods the check out line always seems to be 5 people deep. It has been part of the price you pay to shop at Whole Foods. Not at Boney's - check out time is fast. So Boney's is a great find and another great part of living in San Diego. read more

Five stars for the food. BUT... ZERO stars for customer service after the fact. I had a concern about the ingredients of a store-packaged deli salad which DIDN'T list the ingredients on the package (the first no-no). So i emailed the market through their website and my email was returned to me with "mailbox full" (the second fail-strike). So, exasperated, i called the customer service phone number AND... it rang & rang for 5 minutes. No voicemail, no nothing (the THIRD and FINAL BALL-DROPPING). SO disappointed in the management & service from this otherwise could-have-been-wonderful market. They don't seem to care about the customer after they pay and leave. This is an easy five star rating for me. Boney's Bayside Market is a great escape from the chain grocery stores. One I wish I could make more often. Due to the size of the store, their selection is small but solid enough to satisfy most customers. My wife and I usually come here to pick up items like salsa, sauces, fruit, beer etc. While shopping here, we have noticed that the prices are at least equal if not lower than the chain grocery stores and that the quality of the products was better. The friendly and down to earth service that we receive from the employees walking around the store to the clerks at the check out counter makes this my type of grocery store. read more

Honestly, the two star rating might seem a bit harsh, and it may be coming from a space of some bitterness, but that's where I'm at as I write this review so that's what I'm doing. Yes, they have good selection. Yes they support local businesses (they carry one of my favorite vegetarian spots, Evolution Foods). Yes they've got organic and non-GMO and vegetarian fare and fresh sandwich, soup and deli. Yes yes and yes. They're loaded with the goods, I know! OH: AND BULK! So why am I all bitter-boned here? It's because of the limited access problem. Basically, they do not accept EBT. Therefore, my government assistance does not assist me in buying things here. It makes it off limits, a place of good choices, none of which I can afford and thus none of which I have access to. But really, what was I expecting on the island of Coronado? Still, it'd be very cool if Boneys was willing to open that possibility up, as it'd make me less of a tourist in their store and more of a devoted customer. I mean: groceries from work - bus - home would be great. But looks like I'll have to stop by Vons to do that instead?! There is just something so genuine and cool about this market that I make a special trip to Coronado every once in a while because of them. Maybe it reminds me a little bit of smaller more intimate markets in Europe? The market itself is rather upscale but it is totally worth it as I can tell that their products are very high quality and they strive to provide the best. I come here to get their Coronado Club on a baguette (very reasonable priced at about $6 with lettuce tomatoes and sprouts on a Bread'n'Cie bread ) or Chicken Noodle Soup (one of the best I have ever had- not to salty but very satisfying with plenty of chicken and great not overcooked noodles) or Date Nut Bars (a phenomenal discovery of chewy goodness that is house made just like all their soups) You can find everything there if you are cooking dinner at home. The butcher section is well stocked with organic choices and they will cut and slice your meat for you. The produce section looks great and has a great variety. If you are a vegetarian or vegan you will find some great products unavailable at your usual crowded grocery store. I could ride my bike to this store and cook at home every day and be even a better environmentally conscious individual in general. This store reminds me a lot of a Fresh and Easy and Organic Roots mixed together... a lot of organic and healthy options, but definitely on the pricier side for some items. We ordered a few Black and Blue burgers and some Pollo Asado from their meat department that an employee recommended, and they were both pretty good! If I can remember correctly, they had quite a bit of wine options, but nothing generic-ish like Tequila, Vodka, etc... which was fine because we just went across the street to the liquor store and purchased it there. If I ever need to come by and get something to eat for lunch/dinner, I'll make sure to stop here. read more

I am so impressed with the customer service at Boney's Bayside Market! I'm from Philadelphia and instead of ordering flowers for a friend who had an operation, I called the market to put together some goodies. Michelle was so so helpful! She worked with me to put together a variety of items and even sent me photos of all the prepared foods so I could choose! We had a number of phone calls back and forth as I checked in with my friend. I got SO much for my money- chocolate covered almonds, cheese spread and crackers, toffee wafers, satsumas, berry fruit salad, chicken Caesar salad, broccoli gorgonzola salad- all in a insulated bag! And then on top of all of that, she offered to deliver the order to my friend, who happened to live down the street- and she refused a tip! She went above and beyond with such an upbeat attitude! It was a pleasure working with her! I know my friend will continue to support this market- and I hope others will too! read more

I work on north island so its convenient for me when I forget my lunch or just want a snack that is vegan. Not sure if this place is owned by Whole Foods, they have similar labels, but the deli section is awesome. I highly recommend the lemon orzo salad or if you want something uber fattening, (who doesn't) then the asiago pasta salad. Most of the other deli selection are pretty swell as well. They also have great tasting individually wrapped cookies and brownies. Not a huge selection of other foods, produce is ok, large amount of veggie/soy products, they have a good fancy cheese selection though. The checkers are zombie'd out, hippie style, which may also mean they are totally baked, but I don't care, I rather just check out quickly and head out. Its a good place to stop if you are near the ferry and walking around Coronado as well. read more

I'm giving Boney's 2 stars because service is usually good, would be higher if not for this. I went to Boney's and purchased a berry smoothie , requesting no bananas. It was brought to my attention by the person who took my order that with no banana ( as it had banana in it ) would be $2 more. This is not only confusing but also unfair. You usually get charged for additional products. Since I have a banana allergy and cannot eat It, I had to pay $2 extra in order not to have an allergic reaction. WOW. read more

The only complaint I'd have is that there appeared to be a breakdown of some sort in the kitchen, which caused a huge wait for my and other's sandwiches. This is a nice small grocery store in Coronado. They have a small deli when you walk in that you can order sandwiches from. During lunch time the wait for a sandwich is about 10+ minutes. I ordered their Ruben sandwich and it was pretty tasty! A little heavy on the sauerkraut but there was a good mixture of meat so that helped balance it out. Boneys has all the items you'd find atta WholePaycheck or Henry's--for about the same prices; some things are more $, some things are less $. Decent selection of fresh bread and meats, but the standout at this spot...the snacks!!! Cookies and pies and chocolate covered nuts and trail mixes and bars, along with a pretty damn good selection of drinks! Easy parking and fairly close to the beach, friendly employees (shoutout to Kevin who graciously helped me find a few things) and did i mention all the snacks?! I've been coming to Boneys for years for good deli sandwiches with no problem. I was there a few days ago waiting for my order for a sandwich, when I observed one of the employees pick up a plastic counter protector from the floor that had fallen from the deli counter. Immediately after placing it back on the counter, she placed meat and cheese on top of it. I reported what happened to a different female employee and asked to cancel my order. She seemed genuinely upset with what her colleague had done and was professional about. In her defense, it was busy, however, ruined my appetite. read more

Bayside market is the best place for a sandwich cold or hot panini .the ( Baja) is my favorite & Smoothies and fresh homemade soup, ( turkey chili) my favorite and salads. Fresh muffins, best cheese selection. ( hum bolt fog) my favorite And then the cookie selection homemade daily. My favorite is the flax seed. They got roasted chickens and ribs daily. If you want to BBQ the meat department has marinated Tri Tip that is tasty also known as Dank.... Get some food here walk to the bay one block away and eat on the bay!! read more

THE Island BAJA Sando is so good, but it is just no longer worth the wait. I have tolerated the complete lack of efficiency, urgency and customer service from the deli staff, for a couple of years now. We live right across the street and keep going back. Today, my 2 identical sandwiches took over 25 minutes. I watched several who ordered after me come and go and when I asked, the staff couldn't care less. I purposely waited until after the lunch rush and it was not busy at all. Instead of going inside for a sandwich, next time, I am merely going to find a brick wall to repeatedly slam my head into as it is so painful to watch this team "work" that will be better. I have been hoping it would improve because the sandwich is so darn good. I was willing to take the punishment for the fix, but today was the last straw. I think what is really the thing that gets me going, is that they just absolutely DO NOT CARE! This is specific to the deli, as the rest of the team is really nice and friendly and they do a good job. Long overdue shout out to our local hero market Boney's. Simply put, Boney's makes life on Nado easier and special. We love our gem of a grocery market. Standouts for me are the guys at the butcher shop. Knowledgeable, and professional. Everyday selection of meats, chicken & seafood is top notch, custom orders available. Today my wife wanted 4 center cut pieces of salmon. They took the tray to the back and 3 min later, 4 perfect cuts for dinner. My daughter has gone vegan, and Boney's is a necessity for her. Together we've found a way to ensure she gets all the nutrients she needs, and Boney's is a big part in that. Amazing deli sandwiches (local tip: call in your order and grab n go). Really nice wines, including organic reds. Awesome prepared foods in a pinch, great produce, and be sure to check out the "pharmacy" section - lotions, potions & oils galore. This place is fantastic. Nothing but quality groceries. And so many options for all different diet restrictions and preferences. Josh was working the "butchershop" and he was literally lighting the place up while he was working with customers. Incredibly upbeat and fun while being respectful and suggestive with everyone. I'm a salesman and couldn't help but admire how well he was treating everyone while still upselling the better quality meats. Everyone left his area in a better mood than they came. Every time my boyfriend and I go to boneys we ask for no spread or no sauce or dry and every time we get a sandwich slathered in sauce.
