We were excited to try this location. We came in for an early dinner on a Saturday. The place was pretty empty being that we were there at 4:30. When we were seated the waitress had to wipe down our table. I noticed that the booths really needed to be wiped down and the floors needed to be swept. Our food, my husband Nashville hot chicken sliders and my grilled chicken sandwich were very good. Their tater tots and fries are delicious. My daughter's tri tip was over cooked and dry. Thinking back, they did not ask how we wanted our meat cooked. My son ordered his hamburger without cheese. They made it with cheese, realized this quickly, and remade it. We were indecisive about dinner tonight, so the family opted for bar/grill food. When I called to place our order, I noticed how busy they sounded over the phone, which is great!! I'm glad this business is thriving amidst the pandemic. My husband picked up our food, which didn't take long at all. He said it was PACKED indoors. So FYI, if you're worried about social distancing, masks, etc., then you may want to rethink this place. However, with as busy as it was, it only took 15-20 minutes for our order to be done. Seriously, who can beat that time!! I was impressed. Now onto our food. For the appetizer, we got the Loaded Tot-chos with asada. Very flavorful and the meat was abundant! The tots were also still crispy, despite it being takeout. My Black and Blue burger was good. It had a lot of bacon, but I wish it had more garlic aioli sauce - it just seemed a bit dry for my taste. The Dirty Chips I got for my side was tasty. I was craving Irish Nachos and these were different, yet it satisfied that craving! Although, I wish it had some more of the sriracha sauce. My hubby enjoyed his Stacked Mac & Cheese with hot links. He loves his Mac and cheese, especially this dish with its creamy blend of three cheeses! I came to Bootleggers (on Allen Rd), for the first time, very optimistic about the food and excited to try something new. After talking with friends, I was ready for a great new experience. I had read some of the reviews and was a little worried because many of them said things about bland food, but I wanted to be fair and give it an honest review. I had a pretty good idea about what I wanted before I even got there. SOOOO....that being said, I will start this by saying....HOLY COW, the service is absolutely astonishing!!! My server was one of the nicest people I've ever had in a restaurant! VERY professional and great service! I watched other staff members and WOW they were all doing a great job! If it was all about the service, this place would be a triple 5 star rating! The inside of the restaurant was nice, with the standard bar/pub style adornments. I came here specially wanting to try a new fish sandwich I'd seen on social media (pic below). It looked amazing in the picture, but sadly the staff didn't really seem to be aware they were selling it. It took a pretty good huddle to come up with what they thought it was supposed to be. Even after showing the below ad, that the store posted, the staff wasn't really to sure, but they were going to give it their best shot anyway, because remember the service was amazing!! Anyway, after looking over the menu further, I decided on a Cuban Sandwich as well, with sides of mac and cheese and fries for the meals. Starting with the Cuban, it was just ok, filled with pulled pork, mustard and pickles. Kinda reminded me of one of those old pastrami sandwiches you'd get at one of those dive drive-ins from the ghetto side of town....Don't get me wrong, there is a place for that kind of food, but I expected a higher standard here. It wasn't awful, but it was just as others had said, kind of bland. If not for the mustard, I'm not super sure I could tell you what I was tasting. Meat itself had minimal flavor and was very dry, warmed up on a flat top kind of presentation. The fries that came with the sandwich were actually VERY good. Some of the best fries in town. The mac and cheese was the standard, add some melted cheese to a bowl full of noodles and stir. Sadly I think Kraft Mac and Cheese has more flavor! Now to the supposed star of the show, the reason I came here in the first place....the fish sandwich in the picture below. Was it GOOD or BAD?!?! Drum roll please........Well....it fell short. Besides the fact that it looked nothing like the ad picture, which I wish I would have remembered to photograph, it just wasn't good enough to warrant a revisit to try again! The staff definitely tried to put together a sandwich version of their typical fish and chip dish, but again sadly underwhelming! I will say the fish was crispy and hot, which was the one high point, but the batter had minimal flavor. Not even the proper amount of salt was added. I will say that if you're going to offer something as good looking as that picture (below), minimally have the people making it, on board with your thought process behind the dish. I very much wanted to like it, but sadly it wasn't at all what I was given. Didn't even have the cheese melting off the sandwich like in the picture! I only ate about half before giving up and throwing it away. In today's restaurant world, where more and more of what we order comes down to the food quality, I wish it would have been better. Fish and Chips in Bako is very well represented at Mossman's and Coconut Joe's, having such a high quality taste, they've remained the standard for years with, at times, lines waiting around the corner...Ultimately I think I might have had a better product in the filet-o-fish from McDonald's. Oh well, I appreciate the effort, but sadly disappointing! The funny part for me, is that the FRIES were the best part of the meal, but not worth the $45 I paid for the rest! read more

Found myself in Bakersfield for the first time in YEARS and wow how much it's changed. This little bar/grill was open near my parents and we popped in for lunch. I am trying to rate this fairly, in a fun bar food atmosphere. I love some deep fried goodies when the time is right, but I think that fried food should come out piping hot. It's always a huge disappointment when the fries or anything else is cold that is meant to be hot. That, and seemingly maybe fryer oil was old or on too high, as the food had a dark burnt color. First time ordering take out at bootleggers and probably the last. I got the tri-tip,mashers, and veggies. The mashers and veggies saved the meal. The tri-tip was uneatable. It was rubbery, bad taste, extremely dry, ....taste of meat that's left in the fridge for days. There was a ton of oil on the bottom to try and revive the meat. Reviewing other comments I can see I'm not the only one with this experience. I cannot comment on the ambiance but when I picked up the food it looked clean and overall nice and the people were sweet and got me my food quickly. Bootleggers on the west side, I have been waiting for you!!!!!! I used to be a regular at the Oak location back when it opened because I lived in the area. The 1 thing I miss about living in that area is being so close to such a great bar and restaurant. The perfect opportunity finally came up for me to visit this new location on Wednesday night, so we chose this spot for date night. The outdoor dining situation right now has their dining under open tents in the parking lot. It is lit with cute string lights and there were more tables available then I expected. It was pretty easy to forget you a were outside until passerby drivers occasionally rev their engines for no reason....ugh. Aside from that, it was real tables not just plastic pop up tables. Can't wait to see what dining inside here will be like once restrictions are lifted. Service was quick and everyone seemed on it. We didn't notice any issues at all. Our food also came out quickly and was delicious! I had the Buffalo ranch chicken sandwich and fries with a Moscow mule. Loved the food, but the mule was just ok for me. So I decided to come and try out Bootleggers here in the N.W. I've been to the location on Oak St. and it was pretty good. This location not so much. The food was ok but the service was not so great. I was sitting at the bar waiting to ask for another drink and someone came by and takes my glass yet does not ask if I'd like another. We had a really great lunch today at Bootleggers. They were open to eat inside and also had seating outside which would be really nice in the evening. My husband had a make your own burger with potato tots and I ordered the Kracken burger with a side of Mac and cheese. They said hi the minute we walked in and we got drinks very quickly from a friendly waiter. Our burgers were cooked to order and were delicious. Stopped here on our way home not expecting much as it's in a strip mall. Wow. One of the best breakfasts we've had on our road trip. Should have taken pictures. The chicken fried steak is different but amazing. Tender, great seasoning and the breading is almost like a tempura. Stayed crunchy the whole time. Also got the good af Benedict (with no mushrooms). The eggs aren't actually poached but are soft scrambled. Sausage patty on it was delicious and they put chopped bacon also. Here's the crazy thing - they put this all on a toasted croissant. It works! We tried both the country potatoes and the hash browns (we share plates). I preferred the potatoes - very seasoned (perfect but anymore salt would have ruined them). My wife and I came here for dinner since we've never been here before. My wife had a blackberry margarita and the chicken hummus plate. She loved both the drink( she had two) and gobbled up her meal and was especially surprised how good her salad I had a Chicken Bacon Avocado sandwich with potato wedges. This was the first time we visited Bootleggers since the move. I used to always have the Korean tacos but decided to change it up and try the rib dinner. The ribs were yummy and the mashed potatoes were delicious. My husband had the Salmon which he thoroughly enjoyed. Service was good on a busy Saturday night. When we left there was quite a line of customers waiting for tables as the restaurant is not very large. We ate at the bar top. On a Wednesday night, I decided to go visit a friend performing. Well I will be greeted by a wonderful and pleasant young lady by the name of Shay. And all throughout the night as my waitress, she was attentive along with being wonderful to talk to. The food on the hand was not up to standard. I order the tri tip steak medium rare. When it arrived at my table, I realize that it was not really good. It reminded me of a girl I dated.... small, dry and very salty. It was cooked well done and was not very appealing. The side potions were small as well. I had it sent it back to the kitchen and ordered the boss hog plate. That plate was not well either. Too much barbecue sauce slathered over the dry meat. In all I would say that the for the most part, I had a decent experience with this place. I will return sometime later to find out if they have improved on the food. read more

Not a lot is open right now. We searched for a restaurant serving dine-in and after checking out the menu, were very excited to try this new location. I haven't eaten at the original Bootleggers location, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I am not sure if they have a limited menu due to COVID, but the options were pretty various from tacos to salads to burgers. When I asked if I could order a mojito, I was told they have a full bar, but then she came back and said they didn't have mint, so I had to rethink my mojito craving. I ended up trying the cucumber mule and it was refreshing! Def a little sweet, but super tasty. Our entire ticket was over $60 for 2 adult entrees, a beer, a cocktail and 2 kids meals. This is not TOO bad for dining out, but I don't think we'd return. The adult portions were quite minimal for the prices and the beer cost more than my cocktail! The music is super loud, but we actually didn't mind. It added to the ambience of the sports bar vibe. The service left us a little frustrated as the kids menu stated they would get a dessert but we couldn't get our servers attention long enough to ask for them. Walked in and sat at the bar. (3) Other customers already seated at the bar with drinks. Didn't notice anyone seated at the tables. 2 Bar tenders on shift. No greet through the door, no greet when seated by the beer taps. Waited a few minutes with no acknowledgement. Bar tenders were worried about something different than waiting on the customers. Both kept their backs to us but both saw us enter and sit down. Got up to leave after a few minutes and one of the customers asked if everything was alright and I responded with " I guess they dont want to wait on us" which was followed by one of the bartenders asking us if we wanted drinks while we were walking out the door. Great burgers, beer and service. This is our go-to spot for a great burger a cold locally brewed craft beer. The guacamole burger is fantastic as is the Kraken, and Ring Leader, which both come with their house made cheese sauce. The menu has a wide variety of other good options as well, many of which we've tried and found to be very tasty. I have tried Bootleggers on three different occasions and was sorely disappointed each time. I have yet to finish a meal I've ordered there. If you like dry tasteless food, this is the place for you. I ordered the Tri Tip and mashers my first visit. The Tri Tip was too tough and dry to be freshly cooked. The mashers and vegetables were extremely underwhelming. I can't remember what my second meal was, but my third was the Parmesan garlic chicken wings where were bland, over cooked and tough. I won't be back. The third time was not a charm. read more
