Sometimes the best meals happen completely by accident! We actually ended up here by default because the other place we were planning to go was WAY too busy. And honestly? I'm so glad we came here! First of all, the service was wonderful, and the view was just as amazing. But let's talk about the food... Of course, I had to get the lobster roll, and WOW -- I was in lobster heaven! There was SO much lobster meat packed into that roll. I got it with hot butter, which came on the side, so I could dip every delicious bite. Absolutely perfect! The fries and coleslaw were pretty good too. My sister went with the clam chowder and chicken salad. The cup of clam chowder was HUGE and delicious. She was kind enough to let me have a few bites, but that's where her generosity ended because she happily finished the rest. She also really enjoyed her chicken salad, especially since it was light on the mayo, exactly how she likes it. All in all, this little "backup plan" turned out to be a great decision. No regrets whatsoever! We left full, happy, and very satisfied. Definitely a place I'd come back to!
Food: lobster roll (cold and hot), lobster mac and cheese, New England clam chowder, and Boston cream pie (no whip cream). The lobster roll had huge pieces of lobster and was filled to the brim. It was like eating the sea - so fresh! It came with fries and cole slaw. I didn't care for the slaw because it has raisins in it. Hubby said chowder was good but not the best he ever had. DD liked her mac and cheese. We shared a Boston cream pie with no whip cream. We never had it before. It was pretty good with custard in the center and moist cake and not too sweet. Service: busy place. We waited about 40 minutes to be seated. But our server was very friendly and checked on us a couple times. Ambiance: great location by the water. We had an inside seat. Very loud bar experience. Parking: we parked in a lot not too far down on the same street. They do not validate.
No reservations accepted, it's first come first serve. You add your name on the waitlist at the host stand. Wait time was about 45mins for a party of 2 on a Sunday around 6p with an increasing wait time. My mom and I ordered the fish and chips and both agreed it was lacking in flavor. The clam chowder was delicious and arrived hot. The fish and chips were lukewarm at best, coleslaw was ok, it has raisins in it, that was unexpected, but wasn't too bad. It's a small restaurant with a 90min limit on tables, food comes out quick. Overall, I'd return for clam chowder and a hot lobster roll that was suggested by the table next to us.

First time ever in Boston and wanted to get the full experience of their seafood. I heard a lot of good things about this place and the long lines. I was a bit hesitant, at first, but it was worth it! We didn't have to wait long at all. There was an opening at the bar, so we took it. I loved how it was right on the water and had a cozy charm to it. I had a Moscow mule, a cup of clam chowder and split the calamari and steamed mussels. Everything was so fresh. I'm glad this was my first food stop in Boston.
Chill ambiance with views of the harbor. The wait time can be quite long. We waited about an hour and a half for a table. I ordered the warm Lobster Roll and New England Clam Chowder. The lobster roll was a solid 3/5 stars but the clam chowder was the star of the show. Easily 5/5 stars... I would go back just for that. It was so flavorful and packed with clams.
THE FAWKIN CLAM CHOWDA! Oh my gawd this was the best clam chowder I think I've ever had (but I'm Minnesotan) we loved dining on the patio and eating a ton of food. We hit it hard getting the clam chowder, lobster roll, lobster Mac and cheese and shrimp entree. The shrimp was delicious as were the fries served with it, nice crispy and seasoned how I like it. I personally wasn't crazy about the Mac and cheese or the roll because I'm not a huge lobster fan BUT my friends said it was delicious and they loved the huge chunks of lobstaaa. Our waiter was super fun and friendly.
This is my second time in Boston and I had to stop by here because on our last trip, we tried so many clam chowders and it was nothing compared to this place!! By far THEE BEST CLAM CHOWDER EVER!! We also ended up getting the lobster roll and holy moly, did you see how much lobster is in that roll?? Unbelievable!! So worth it!! I also never had a boston cream pie before (i know, bummer) so i thought, why not try it here since their lobster roll and clam chowder is superior! Boston cream pie did not disappoint! It was not as sweet as it looks but sweet enough! The service was amazing per usual! Our server is super attentive and even though it was super packed and busy, our wait was only 15m. And ambiance is nice too because it's by the water. Overall, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!!! Everything was 10/10 PERFECTION!!
A Boston staple with what people say has the best chowder. Service at the bar was phenomenal-the bartender was attentive even though she was slamming busy. Drinks were great. Split a bowl of chowder and it was very good, albeit not the best I ever had. Depending on where you get a seat, there is a gorgeous view of the harbor. Bathroom was DIRTY and bar was sticky-otherwise would've given this a 5th star.
We had a great dinner at Boston Sail Loft! The location is great and I recommend sitting outside or in the back against the windows for nice views of the water. We had the clam chowder which was excellent...lots of clams and potatoes and the dill was a delicious addition. We also had the lobster roll. It could have used a little more mayo but overall we liked it.
If I could give this place more stars, I absolutely would. The fact that anyone has anything negative to say about Boston Sail Loft blows my mind. From start to finish, we had an amazing experience here. We ate here on Sunday. They open at 11:30am. We got in line around 11:00 am, and there were already dozens of people waiting in line for them to open . Around opening time, the owner came out and personally greeted everyone as they came into the restaurant. He was so friendly. He greeted passers-by on the street and talked with the locals. The staff was friendly and answered all our questions. They provided recommendations and offered suggestions. We sat at a window table and were able to see out at the boats. It was cute and quaint inside! I got a cup of the clam chowder. I 100% recommend it! They add dill and omit the pork, which made it so delicious! My friend and I split the fish and chips, and it was more than enough for two people. The fish was cooked perfectly and the fries (chips) were crispy without being too crunchy. We added a bit of pepper to our fish, and my goodness does that make a difference. If you visit Boston, want an awesome local establishment with delicious food and overly friendly staff, this is the place for you. This was my third visit to Boston and I'm so sad I didn't know about it sooner. It's a MUST.
Busy restaurant on the water and one of my favorite lobster rolls on this trip. Huge portions and very lively in here. Server was a bit slow but due to the influx from the FIFA fans. Started with the cup of clam chowder that comes dripping from the cup. They use a lot of dill here and come out hot. A bit on the salty side but oyster cracker helps with that. The lobster mac and cheese came with a salad. The lobster mac had a nice broiled cheese top and a creamy inside. Nice lobster and cheesy flavor to it. I got the warm lobster roll and changed it to come with onion rings for $1. The onion rings tasted homemade. Slight crisp to it and thick onions. The lobster roll was massive and the amount of lobster it came with was incredible. Poured the hot butter and squeeze lemon on it for an amazing bite. Would come back here for a larger party to share the plates and order more stuff from here. The lobster bisque is only on the weekends. They have daily menus as well.
Tourist trap. Best clam chowder? I beg to differ, had way better at the Chelsea Market fish market. Our plan was to sit outside at a table on their SIDEWALK area with my 10lb dog in her stroller, but the hostess said, with an attitude, no dogs allowed in the patio area. Patio area? You mean the sidewalk? Isn't the sidewalk a public area? We were confused. We tried to clarify because maybe he was confused? But no, he said no again. My mom was hungry so we opted to get a bowl of chowder to go and we put our name down at the restaurant next door who was UBER dog friendly and even gave my girl a dog bone when we checked in, and lots of pets. Anyways the clam chowder should be renamed to dill chowder because dang, why so much! And hardly any clam, mostly potatoes. Not a fan of the policy or the chowder, would not recommend
Hands-down, we had the BEST lobster roll at Boston Sail Loft during our trip. It came highly recommended by some locals too so I knew we were in good hands. It wasn't cheap, but we weren't going to travel too far out of the city to find more affordable pricing haha. I love this little restaurant on the water. Please note that they do not offer reservations so you'll have to check in with the host for seating. The wait can be ridiculously long, so make sure to put your name down and either try and find a spot at the bar to have drinks to pass the time or go somewhere else and come back. It is very popular! For food, my friend and I split the lobster roll and the scallops entrée. Both were incredible. The lobster roll was meaty, tender, sweet and the roll itself was perfectly buttered and fresh. Nothing ruins a lobster roll more than the roll itself being stale and this one was perfection. The scallops I would also highly recommend. Boston Sail Loft will definitely always be on my list of places to go to when I visit Boston again! read more

This place was amazing. First of all expect a bit of a wait as it gets packed. Came back for seconds two days later. The food was remarkable to say the least. The lobster was literally overflowing the roll and crawling out onto the fresh and crispy fries. Had a local cover and beer for refreshing taste to the food. My girl had the seafood with linguini and was amazing. More seafood than pasta for sure. The second go around we had calamari and was super tasty and fresh with a light crunch not heavy. The place was nice and cozy well lit and a very east coast flair of the restaurant right on the marina. Super highly recommend. read more
Boston Sail Loft delivered exactly what we came for, classic New England comfort by the water. We each had our fair share of lobster bisque, and clam chowder. We went family style on the appetizer sampler, and the fried fisherman platter and were beyond full by the end. The bisque was rich and buttery, the chowder thick and flavorful, and the fried platter hit that perfect crispy spot. Service was friendly but a little on the slower side for a table, which is the is expected for peak hours. Still, great food, great portions, and that cozy harbor charm that makes it worth the stop. read more

Probably the best clam chowder I've ever tasted, this is coming behind Seattles know clam chowder location at pike place. I mean you're talking about 2 different sides of the country here but man was it good. We got here on a Saturday night right before the kitchen closed. The lobster roll was out of this world, for the price? We had a good amount of meat in there and an was it mouth watering. I definitely recommend getting it warm. Service was good and if I ever visiti Boston again I'll want to try this same food again. read more

Make sure that you book ahead or get on the worst list! The food was fantastic. Service was good and attentive. I probably wouldn't order the sandwich again bc it was a little plain/unseasoned. My family and I came here for dinner. We were seated quickly. Beautiful view and clean restaurant. Sarah was a very attentive and knowledgable server. We ordered the clam chowder, hot lobster roll, lobster Mac and cheese, kids burger and fries and Cajun popcorn shrimp. The clam chowder was really good. We were visiting Boston in search of an excellent lobster roll - specifically looking for a hot buttered one that was loaded with lobster and we got it here! This place is located on a marina and has views of the water. We arrived 8 minutes after opening on a week day and it was already pretty busy but luckily we didn't have to wait. We sat down and our server was quick to get us drinks and answer any menu questions. She didn't rush us but was timely which I appreciated. In an effort to order different things, my boyfriend got the lobster roll (hot and buttered) and I got the lobster mac and cheese. Both meals were delicious! The lobster roll was loaded and cooked well and the mac and cheese had plenty of meat in it and was super flavorful. I also loved the texture of their French fries so don't skip those! read more

First time trying Sail Loft and it definitely lived up to the hype. Came here on a Wednesday night with a group of four, and even though it was surprisingly busy for a random weeknight, we only waited about 20 minutes for a table. The location right on the water gives it a classic Boston feel, and the atmosphere inside is casual but lively. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful with recommendations, which made it easy to pick a mix of dishes. We ended up ordering the pan-seared halibut dinner, fish and chips, lobster roll, Cajun popcorn shrimp, and clam chowder. The clam chowder stood out the most--it's hands down my favorite I've had in Boston so far. Extra creamy, rich in flavor without being overly salty, and a good portion size. The Cajun popcorn shrimp was another highlight: crispy on the outside with a nice little spice kick, while the shrimp inside was tender and fresh. The halibut was cooked perfectly and paired well with the scampi lobster sauce, which added both flavor and richness. The lobster portion itself was generous and felt like a great value. The fish and chips and lobster roll were also solid choices--classic, well-executed, and fresh. Overall, Sail Loft delivers on both food and atmosphere. I did not think the Boston Sail Lodge was impressive at all. Maybe I started with the bar too high at Saltie Girl but this did not compare. For starters it was the same prices at Saltie girl but this was a way more unimpressive both in service and taste. I had the chowder and Lobster roll and both were just okay. I do not think they are worth the price. Extremely forgetful in my opinion. I would say just go to Saltie Girl read more

This place is amazing! Best clam chowder! We only had to wait 20 min for dinner, did not need reservations. The staff were very nice! The food came out fast! I never had clam chowder before but it was amazing!! And I got the Cajun fried shrimp as an appetizer also so delicious! So juicy and flavorful, just a little spice. The tartar sauce and cocktail sauce was also so good! The lobster roll was also something I never had but wanted to try and it was really good! I could only eat half and half of my fries but they were just as awesome the next day! Highly recommend and cute area to walk around while waiting! read more
Yes, you'll wait at least half an hour for a table. They don't take reservations and are clearly not hurting for business. But I might be going a bit soft in my old age because I thought the clam chowder here, while normally not my cup of tea in terms of soup that I crave, was absolutely worth it. (They take down your number so you're free to stroll around the area and they also add you to the Toast waitlist, so you can keep an eye on where you are in the queue). The chowder was chunky and thiccc, chock full of potatoes and clams, and I loved the addition of the dill. It's a bit of a production because it comes in an overflowing cup but just look at the photos - truly magnificent. Came with the tasty oyster crackers. I got the soup and half of a tuna sandwich with fries and a pickle, which for $18, is a pretty good deal. Fries were utterly delicious. We lucked out into getting a seat facing the water (albeit right next to the family bathroom) but the views were great. Food came out super promptly. read more

Great experience at the Boston sail loft. We came on a busy Saturday during a holiday weekend, the wait time was estimated to be an hour, however it was around 40 minutes. We were promptly seated and our waitress was extremely friendly. We had the lobster bisque (cup), lobster ravioli, and fried shrimp plate. Everything was hot, tasty, and fresh! The location was clean and spot on for the theme. Would definitely recommend and will always visit whenever I'm in town. read more
Came back for chowder 3 times in 3 days. Lobster roll was good chilled, the hot one was meh. Fish n chips was said to be good, but it wasnt amazing imo. Clam app was really good fried, maybe my tast might do it a little more cooked but might be pref. read more

Second visit was so disappointing was there 3/13/26 & return 3/15/26. Unfortunately my food wasn't the best this day tasted funky and lobster was cold and you couldn't eat it as the first day was completely different. And couldn't eat the salad much either since I wasn't aware it had bacon take full responsibility here for not asking. So I asked for a cup of instead since that was very good on my first. I let the server know I couldn't eat the food moved plates to the side 85% portion she there and I got charged for all of it no manager come over. read more

Boston seafood I got one of the specials that was a pasta with lobster, shrimp, scallops, oysters and muscles. It was so good!! They have lemon and Parmesan on the side that you could add. I wasn't even that hungry but I slurped it all up! It was packed but service was great ! I had a couple servers help me and both gave great recommendations and were very friendly. You sit right by the water with windows everywhere. It felt like the most Boston place you could go to eat. read more
The first order of business after we landed in Boston was to get to lobster rolls and clam chowder. On my previous trip here just a few months prior, we did our due diligence and had lobster rolls and chowder from three places but missed out on Boston Sail Loft. This place was on top of all the lists of must try places. We came straight from the airport and found parking just a few blocks away. It's Boston, so you will be paying for parking in the area. It is located on the Boston Harbor so you get great views inside. The whole building has alot of character from the outside to the inside. The restaurant is more long than wide and goes down the length of the pier. They maximize the space with tables the length of the restaurant so it definitely feels tight inside. When we walked up on that very chilly day, there was a crowd outside which told me this place must be good for people to wait in the cold! We put our name on a list and was told we had a little over an hour wait so we just walked around, grabbed a cocktail nearby and waited patiently. Customer service really good. Once they found out we were from Texas, they told us all about having their chowder shipped down south if the cravings hit. When we travel, eating is one of our main goals so we tend to order a variety of things and just share. We got three hot lobster rolls that came with fries and coleslaw, lobster bisque, and clam chowder (or chow-duh as the locals would say). While we waited on that, we ordered drinks. I went with an espresso martini. It came out completely creamy looking which I'm not used to, but it was tasty. The food all came out at the same time and looked great. I only like my lobster rolls hot with butter and that's what we got all around. These things came with a hefty price tag but you get what you pay for. They were filled and overflowing with juicy, succulent New England lobster. The butter wasn't needed but it just added to the deliciousness. The buttered brioche roll was a perfect vessel for the meat. The fries were solid too and the slaw was just ok. The clam chowder was excellent. It was thick and hearty and hit the spot on a cold day. I will say it was potato heavy, but still great. What I did miss was a little smokiness of some bacon or something like that. Maybe it was there, but I could not tell. The lobster bisque was delicious as well, but I will pick chowder over that any day. Overall, this place was worth the hype and wait. I would rank it in my Top 3 in Boston for sure and would not hesitate to come back if in the area. read more

This is one of my favorite places to visit when I'm in the Boston area. You will have the best clam chowder of your life here served in an overflowing cup or bowl. I love to pair my clam chowder with an ALMOST overflowing espresso martini. Truly a delicious combination. The restaurant sits right on the harbor and is really picturesque. If you're not able to sit outside on the deck, the inside area has plenty of windows to watch the water. The owner bends over backwards to make sure you have a good experience, and his staff are always great. My last visit, I was there at opening time and the owner greeted everyone in line and gave a little speech about how long they'd been in business and how important his staff are to him. He then greeted each guest personally as they were seated. Great guy. The Sail Loft is a gem, and I will continue to stop by whenever I'm in town. read more

Boston 1st timers. The whole experience was 10/10. From the host "Jennifah" to waitstaff and food. We had several different chowdas during our visit and BSL was my fave of them all. And the warm lobsta roll? You can't perfect what BSL offers. We'll be back for sure. But not before ordering their chowda from Goldbelly. read more

Such a cute restaurant! I walked past this place for the last three years, and I've always wanted to try it. I popped in today and sat in the bar. Amazing staff, so friendly and welcoming. The shrimp cocktail was out of this world, everything was so fresh and great, I highly recommend. Makes a great weekday lunch spot.! Also great views read more

Seating is tight. I would recommend getting two separate tables instead of asking to seat 9.
There are not allowed to share a red lobster with friends?Why?
I couldn't tell you. We both ate all of our lobster. Maybe one of you order a lobster and the other order something else and share. No one can really stop you from doing that.
