Finally tried Bostwick's when passing through to see a good friend that lived near. Nice casual, bustling chowder house with indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly service, fast efficient for a good sized summer crowd. Went basic, chowder and fish and chips.. that's what they are known for.. perfect place for casual summer lunch/dinner. Escaping the city in search of a beach vacation definitely requires seafood as a supper staple. And pulling into East Hampton with a grumble in our bellies, it wasn't that much of a stretch to park it at Bostwick's for a late night feast. The restaurant is laid back, casual and even kinda local. The hostess hands out vibrating lobsters to alert you to table availability. The bar area is adorned with fish tackles and drink menu includes sweet Lily Pond Lemonades, Oyster Shooters and Bostwick Breezes. Despite the rustic ornamentation, it's not a cheap eat spot. Most entrees are in the $20-$30 range and almost everything the serve has spent time in the sea. My lobster bisque was nice, though it could have used more actual lobster pieces. I tasted the crab stuffed flounder, oysters and scallops. All were decent but the real winning dish came in the form of crab cakes. Totally out of left field, this flavorful pair of lightly breaded babies seriously made sharing difficult. With a side of blanched green beans and fingerlings, all ready to be dipped in a mind-blowing tartar pepper sauce... Oh lordy, I could eat this every day! All in all a nice place for a meal. I think lunch may be more of a draw since the outside garden is so pleasant but even in the evening, it feels like a vacation. read more

Love this place. Packed all the time and filled with families. The Manhattan Clam Chowder is one if the best I have ever had. You can't go wrong with almost anything here. The lobster roll is tops, as are the fish tacos and fried clam strips. The menu is pretty big so there are lots of choices. All in all, a great summer fish place. read more

Just stopped here for lunch. It was delicious. Best New England Clam Chowder. Not too thick and not thin. Perfectly creamy with potatoes that melted in the mouth. The lobster roll was fresh and flavorful. MKT today was $26. And love the shoestring French fries. read more

Young hostess takes another party that came after us because someone at the bar gave them their buzzer. My friend tells the hostess that is not fair. Gentlemen who was given the table by the young hostess gives us the table. Hostess seems annoyed by this. We asked to speak to a manager. None available. We get sr waitress. We asked senior waitress for an apology. She clearly speaks to hostess. Hostess comes and gives us a half assed apology with a huge BUT... it's busy, buzzers dictate who gets seated when etc. My friend states that as the hostess of this restaurant it is up to her to uphold the rules of the restaurant. Well that clearly rocked the young hostess and when she returned inside she began to cry hysterically supposedly, we were outside so we can't confirm this. Bostwick's is definitely the place to be if you're a seafood lover. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu! My personal favorite is their lobster roll, but I also enjoy their clams and mussels. The food was good but everything is served on single use plastic. I thought it would be a nice dining experience but instead it was a Moscow Mule in a plastic cup and trying to eat salmon with a plastic fork. Not only is it very wasteful, it also makes the experience cheap feeling and just not as nice. Make it classy and less trashy! read more

3.5 Stars Cute, busy restaurant right off the side of Route 27 - this place is decorated with some nautical related items. There's also a bar area with some stools. The clam chowder was soupier than I would like, it needed more clams and chopped ingredients. I think this clam chowder needed stronger flavor overall. The corn chowder was slightly better, more little bits in the soup, but again, needs more flavor. At least both soups came to the table quite hot. There was a little bag of Westminster oyster crackers to add in. The coleslaw tasted fresh and good. The corn was just steamed corn. The lobster meat was a little bit overcooked - it was a tad tough and chewy. The grilled mahi fish tacos were pretty good - there was a large hunk of fish in the taco on a bed of guacamole. If anything, try the fish tacos, they are better and stand out more than the above items. read more

We had lobster fritters, chowders, and I asked for a blackened flounder taco in lieu of the other fish which they obliged and even brought on separate plates since we were sharing. Yes, yes and yes! Worth whatever waiting you have to do. Found this place on our way home, and decided that since the outside was crowded and the parking lot was full, we had to try it. It was packed, but if you sat in-doors ( the less desirable Area, but gets the job done) the wait went from 45 minutes to about 10 minutes. We waited at the bar where the lovely bartender served us a Bloody Mary and iced tea. Both were refreshing and good. Once seated, we looked over the menu, which could be overwhelming, because we wanted to eat everything! But being it is a chowder house, my husband had to order the Manhattan clam chowder. He stated it was the best chowder he has ever had. I had the lobster bisque, which was also super delicious. We also had the stuffed clams, arugula salad and little neck clams on the half shell. The clams both raw and stuffed were so fresh, and clean tasting. This place clearly takes their raw bar seriously. They are real deal and I respect that. For dinner, we needed a little red meat so we ordered a cheeseburger and of course had to do a steamed lobster. We shared both and wow! The lobster was perfection. I have no other words. Just the way a lobster should taste. This place could easily rest on their laurels of having great seafood and just serve a shit burger to the ass who comes here to order one, but no. It was delicious, not joking, one of the better burgers I have had. I love this place, classic Hamptons spot. Bostwicks is really my go-to when looking for a low key spot to sit outdoors and have a few oysters and bloodies. We come here at least once a week, and it's always reliable! Usually good service (with the exception of the middle aged woman with long blonde hair who lied to us about being permitted to sit at the bar tables if having drinks/apps (we called afterwards to inquire, and yes, you can sit there for drinks and apps)), and its a great place to relax on a hungover sunday. Big sized tables if you do have a big group, but they're also great about sitting small parties at the oversized tables. Their bloodies really grow on you - and if you get them extra spicy they're amazing! Also, they always let my boyfriend and friends trade in the clams on the sampler with extra oysters/shrimp (which frustrates me as i'd love to trade in the shrimp and clams for 9 oysters, for only $1 more than the half dozen...but doubt they'd go for that). Will continue to be a staple until Labor Day! read more

Lobster bisque, you had me at the first spoon! You were creamy, savory and memorable! The lobster roll served with butter hot was also just perfect. Nothing other than pure lobster meat with butter and herbs. The lobster was prepared just as a steamed lobster should be - soft and rich! This awful lobster roll at Ed's Lobster House made me realize that I should honor the beauty that is Bostwicks. We sometimes go to Bostwicks twice in one day. The menu is extensive and you can have a completely different flavor profile each meal. However, the food is so good... that sometimes you just want to get the same thing each time. All the employees are awesome and waiters are kind and efficient. The great service further contributes to the wonderful experience. This place is awesome. When we first pulled up, the restaurant looked really cute from a decor standpoint (what you would imagine from a cute upscale, Hamptons / beach chowder house). When we first arrived, there were a lot of people sitting outside waiting for a table. The restaurant said they weren't doing any more pick up / take out orders because the kitchen was so busy and told us to come back after 9pm. However, we only wanted to pick up the soup (chowder house!) so they made an exception for us. We tried the Lobster Bisque and it was AMAZING. We came here July 30th on our way back to the city from Montauk. This place was the best meal we had the entire time in that area. Everything that was fried came out crispy. After watching the sunset in Montauk, my friends and I came back here for my birthday dinner. There's a bit of a wait but they give you a buzzer to hold onto. We had ordered the clam chowder and lobster bisque. Both were delicious- rich and creamy with an abundance of meat. As for entrees, I ordered the seafood pasta and OMG it was delicious. You really can't tell how much food they give you because I was eating and eating and I swear the bowl wasn't getting anymore shallow. BY the time I was stuffed, I still had half my dish. There was so much scallop, shrimp and lobster in there- every bite was just amazing. I heated it up the next morning and gobbled it up for breakfast!! Service was a bit slow though- that's why I took off the star. It took a while to get our check- had to ask for it twice actually. Otherwise, the food was just over the top YUMMY. read more

Loud !!!! Inside and out. Wish they would use or hope they would use biodegradable plates, know they have no dishwasher. They need a buffer between you and the road, maybe they'll spend a little $$ on shrubs this year. Over waitresses in short shorts that put on airs. The food over all is very good. Okay, so before I go badgering the price tags, I must list the disclaimer, "Location: East Hamptons" Moving forward, Bostwick's was a stop on the way back from Montauk. The wait was over an hour on a Friday afternoon so we decided to squeeze in at the bar. The service was somewhat lacking, but we made it through. I was a little hungover from the night before so I stuck with iced tea to hydrate, and boy was I thirsty. Funny thing is, I kept having to beg for refills. Not once did she offer, not even one time. I must have had at least 4 or 5 iced teas. Even funnier thing was when I got the check, the iced teas alone were $17.50!! Just keep in mind, refills are not complimentary! This place has potential but falls very short of the mark. For one thing, one very disappointing thing, everything they use is plastic, the "cutlery", the cups and "glasses" - everything is disposable, making this busy restaurant one big enemy of the environment. Unacceptable in this day and age when we are facing environmental crises at every turn. The New England clam chowder was good, but the fish and chips was deplorable, actually rubbery and very greasy. I ate one and half pieces of the three and then gave up in disgust. My wife and I had a modest meal - $80 - way over priced, in my opinion. read more

Minus the 30 minute wait, this place was fantastic! Ordered the lobster bisque for an appetizer which was incredibly delicious! The bisque was full of chunky pieces of lobster with a creamy and tasteful texture. The best! For my entree I ordered the famous fish tacos-- fried codfish tacos! My gosh it was so good! The slightly spicy sauce topped with diced onions and other diced veggies was out of this world! I highly recommend this place when visiting the hamptons! You won't be disappointed. read more

I stopped at Bostwick's on my way back from the Montauk Point Lighthouse looking for some good seafood. I wasn't disappointed. The lobster bisque and the clam chowder were both excellent. The lobster bisque was chock full of lobster, which was appreciated, but I preferred the flavor of the clam chowder overall, so if you're hung up between the two, go for the clam chowder. We also ordered a lobster roll and a crab cake sandwich, both of which were wonderful. Again, the lobster roll was filled with ample amounts of lobster, but the crab cake sandwich stole the show. It was flavorful, filled with crab, and came with a delicious remoulade. Everything was fresh and homemade, and is well worth a taste. However, the hostess that made me and my party of 2 wait 35 minutes for a patio seat that we eventually gave up on in favor of an indoor seat needs to go. Not only did she seat a party of 5 (only 3 of which were present; their seating policy on the hostess station specifically states that incomplete parties will not be seated) outside, but she also sat another party of two outside not thirty seconds after I had been seated with my party of two. I don't know what her deal was, but no explanation or apology was offered. However, our waitress was very kind and prompt. We saved the best for our last run of "lobster roll" eating on our way out of Montauk. This happened by chance. And I will also add that this was our second stop for lobstahh roll yesterday. We sat in the outdoor patio under a well shaded (trees and umbrella) area and quite comfortable. For starters, hot steamers served in its own broth and melted butter - delicious and perfectly cooked. Followed by a hot lobstahh roll, very generous portion, succulent morsels of claw and tail pieces. It was not overdressed in seasonings or mayo which allowed a clear taste of the lobstahh.
