WARNING: NOT CLEAN FOOD In a span of 5 minutes here's what I saw. I walked in and the place wasn't busy at all. Workers didn't seem to notice me or make any effort to acknowledge me so I just waited at the register until someone came walking thru the push-door from the kitchen, to the front register. I ordered my soup and asked if their Royal cookie was a chocolate chip cookie, and his reply? "It has chocolate in it." Okay. Not helpful, as that wasn't my question. Fine, whatever. I asked to grab another type of cookie instead, and he grabs the cookie with his gloved hand. BUT!!! He was wearing that glove when I came in, he was touching all the things in their "Togo" station with it, pushed through all the doors with it, touched the register with it, and now you're touching the cookie?! Dude, even Subway uses those little baking sheet papers to grab their cookies. In a time of the highest ever recorded COVID numbers, this is disgusting. Who knows how long he's been wearing those gloves, because he's been touching EVERYTHING since I was in here for just the 5 minutes. After he gave me the cookie he proceeded to walk over to their "Togo station" and he packed my food in the bag and WITH THAT SAME "GLOVED HAND" proceeded to pack me an unwrapped spoon. There's parking in the front of Boudin but it's shared with the adjacent shops so it can be a little tight sometimes. I came to this location at 4:30 PM on a week night and it seemed like a pretty slow time to come. No one was at the register at the time but someone came up to the front and quickly took my order. I've ordered to-go or for pick up from here before and sometimes they take a while, but they immediately got my order ready and I was in and out in probably 3 minutes max. I really enjoyed eating at this place a lot. I had the french toast for breakfast which was made using their original sourdough bread. The prices are quite reasonable, the food is excellent and the service was very friendly. Most items feature their original sourdough bread which is very hearty, crusty and heavy. It might not be for everybody, but I thought it was great. You can also buy whole loaves of bread here to take home. I came here in the middle of a cold day, eager for something warm to eat. Boudin did not disappoint. I thought it was a restaurant at first, where you sit down and order so I was surprised when there was a cashier at the end of the aisle, waiting for my order. I ordered a clam chowder bread bowl and half a chicken salad sandwich, while my boyfriend ordered another clam chowder bowl and a chicken salad. The food arrived quickly. I didn't get a bread bowl at first, but the waitress was quick and friendly and fixed the mistake. The soup was delicious, and the bread was really good as well. The bowl was too big and we ended up taking two big bread bowls home, haha. My sandwich didn't taste very good. I couldn't taste the chicken at all. I don't think I'll order this sandwich again. The first time I tried the Turkey Avocado Sandwich and chicken Cesar it was was good. The bread is by far the best part as it is soft and flavorful. The other ingredients were fresh but otherwise not very notable besides the salad being slightly dry. The second visit, I tried the clam chowder and highly recommend the bread bowl. The bread is delicious and you can easily eat the entire bowl. The chowder itself is not the best I have ever had, but it was still good. My largest complaint is that this place is slow due to being understaffed and always busy with online orders which makes it difficult to get in and out quickly. Plan to spend at least 20-30 minutes there by the time you order and wait for your food. I do recommend visiting if you are nearby and want a filling meal. read more

I have heard it gets pretty busy at the Irvine location since it is close to all the business for lunch, but every time I go its only about a 3-5 min. wait in line and then 5-7 min. to bring our food out. You kind of have to get the clam chowder when you come here, its delicious! They sell it in the can for about $4.75 which is very overpriced, but it does beat the Campbells soups for much cheaper. I got the turkey cranberry sammich which I LOVE! they use real cranberries (i think), I could be wrong, they do look a little watery/moist and could be straight from the can. Either way they taste good in the sammich! They bread they use for the sammiches are super soft on the inside and the outer "crust" layer is hard to bite, so be careful! They give a generous portion of turkey so it bulges in the center. Great place for soups and sammiches! and salads too, but mainly soup. They could use more cashier's since the line always takes FOREVER when there is only like 1 person in front of me. This is a great Boudin that is not as crowded as the nearby South Coast one. The only downside is that parking in this plaza may be a challenge. The service here is great, never had a bad encounter. The food is on par with other Boudins, delicious. My personal favorite is the classic sourdough bread bowl with clam chowder. Also, for a yummy kick, try adding some Tabasco sauce to your clam chowder. I also really like the turkey cranberry sandwich and getting the combo tomato soup with a grill cheese. Will not return; this location is horrible compared to the one at South Coast which I usually go to. Yesterday, I placed a To-Go order on Uber Eats for a sandwich and a sandwich/salad combo, and they: (1) forgot to include a side salad, (2) gave me dirty drink (covered with remnants of a spilled drink), and (3) gave us tiny sandwiches (not much meat, veggies, toppings, etc.). I'm not sure if the workers thought they could be lazy with To-Go orders, since the odds of someone returning it are low, but I was really disappointed with the service. I asked for a bag of chips to replace the salad, and they handed it to me without an apology or acknowledgment. I also asked for a slice of sourdough to accompany my soup, to which they refused, saying it's not part of the meal. The food is good- clam chowder is the obvious specialty. Most grilled sandwiches have been good, the salads usually have something left to be desired. Every time I've ordered online there's been a 5-25 min wait to pick up which isn't terrible. That's where my order started off and then it jumped to a 65 min wait after I had already arrived. Looking something for lunch I came upon this place on yelp. I've always drove past it especially when i go to souplanation so i was decided to try this place out. It's located in the same plaza as Souplanation but the parking lot is behind the building. Upon walking into the place the decor reminds you of those old fashion yet modern deli's ala corner bakery. But instead they featured their freshly baked breads for sale at the entrance. I ordered the pick 2 items for $7.49 including the highly raved clam chowder with a half Turkey raspberry rachel cole slaw sandwich. We also ordered the Gumbo instead the bread bowl served with a side mixed salad. The clam chowder was actually pretty yummy with the dash of chopped parsley on top. Although it seemed like it was alittle more watery then the usual chowders i've had. Nonetheless there was plenty of clams and chunks of potatoes to tingle your pallid. On to the sandwich which was thinly sliced turkey breast, on top a leaf of lettuce, tomatoes and this super sweet yet tangy raspberry cole slaw all nicely placed between two slices of freshly baked chewy sourdough bread. With my first bite i was like WOW this is one of the most yummy sandwiches i've ever ordered! Next time i will probably just order this sandwich alone since it definitely hit the spot. The Gumbo in the bread bowl had quite alot of heat in it. So if you don't like spicy food you may want to skip this one. But if you love spicy foods definitely give this one a try. It was your usual hardy gumbos full of rice, tomatoes, and a bunch of spices topped with a sprig of diced parsley too. The bread bowl like all there sour dough was super chewy with a crispy crust. This is definitely what a bread bowl is suppose to taste like. The side salad was just like another mixed salad with mixed greens with italianish vinaigrette dressing. The sandwich itself was fresh, but really nothing to rave about. The soup bread bowl though was very delightful. The sourdough was pretty spot on. Crunchy, hard, soft fluffy insides. It was so good to eat it as I dipped it into my clam chowder. The soup itself (which they sell in cans), was rather delicious as well. Good flavor, nice amount of clams, creamy, warm, gooey. Having ordered, the meal came out in a short period of time. For $8-9, it wasn't a bad meal. I'd definitely come back if I felt like having soup! We have not experienced any follow up from management for the medical expense incurred from the food poisoning. This works if you are in a bind. I was nearby looking for a quick dinner. I was short on time and there were a few customers ahead of me which each seemed to take a while when ordering and that also translated to a long time for each of the orders being prepared though i did see my order being prepared and a while for my name to be called out. anyway, i got to half sandwich and soup combo which were prepared correctly despite my modifications. our meal did not come with utensils even though there were two soups so make sure to ask for utensils. their rewards program seems great- one loaf each month (i like to get mine sliced) and a free treat on your birthday month. read more

I placed an order online and up until the actually order showed up everything was fine. The delivery person was nice and on time even followed the directions given. What was disappointing was that 2 items from my order were not delivered. I called the store 3 times to resolve the situation and no one answered the phone. I was disappointed because the food at this restaurant is very good. Be careful ordering on their website. There is no way to get support if the store location decides to not answer the phone. We ordered on a Friday night 15 mins before closing so I was slightly concerned about the freshness of the food, especially for our first time trying Boudin SF! We ordered the family deal for 2 (2 sourdough bread bowl soups, 2 cold sandwiches and 2 cookies for $25). The clam chowder, although super delicious, was more of a potato chowder and we were pleasantly surprised they gave us an extra cookie. This review is based on a Doordash delivery experience I had recently... Boudin SF is often an overlooked alternative to the more "mainstream" soup and sandwich type places and that's a shame. The food quality here absolutely trounces " P-Bread " and " C-Bakery " at the same price point. I ordered a half soup/half sandwich combo with Chili in a bread bowl and a half french dip. The portions are absolutely awesome. Unlike other places, I did not feel ripped off. Everything was thoughtfully packaged and they included all sorts of sauces and butter for the bread. I did knock one star because my French dip's baguette bread was a little stale. Even after long steamy dips in the au jus, it was still a bit tough to chew. Overall a great experience. For some reason the sandwiches here are really inconsistent. The chicken pesto either comes oozing with pesto or almost completely dry, there's no happy medium. Today my sandwich was completely dry but had a TON of balsamic rather than the regular drizzle. I ate half but it was so dry and hard to consume so I didn't bother to eat the rest. Also, the bacon grilled cheese here is always overdone. The sandwich gets hard and way too crispy, same with the bacon, and it doesn't taste the same as it normally does at other Boudin locations. FOOD POISONING!!! I had breakfast here yesterday and ordered the avocado toast with a hard boiled egg on top. A few hours later I had severe stomach cramping. Another 4 hours later I have full blown food poisoning symptoms. It was so bad I had to have an IV service come to the house to rehydrate me. I am still sick this very moment! I still love Boudin. They added three new salads recently (couple months ago?), and my favorite is the chicken panzella. Recently I moved to Torrance, so I can't get my boudin fix as much as I want to. However I come to Irvine once a week for work now and try to come here. Today I placed an order for pick-up for the soup and salad combo. I ordered the butternut squash and the chicken panzella salad. When I came home, I realized there was no chicken in the salad. I called back and the guy sounded genuinely apologetic and told me he would send a gift card to my address. I just thought he would take my name and tell him when I'm coming in next time to redo my salad. Overall, he handled it really professionally.
