I simply love anything they offer in a Bread Bowl. This time around I had the Beef Stew. The flavor was delightful and very tasty, the beef melted in your mouth with the veggies the same. Not salty, but just enough salt to accentuate the beef flavor in the stew. This is good, because most stews and soups can be very salty. This was a great dinner dish, very filling as it came with a side salad mixed with the right amount of vinaigrette that was tangy but not killer tangy. The top of the Bread Bowl is toasted with butter and garlic. Yummmmmy! I asked for more butter for the bread top. Service was fast, friendly, and professional. What you would expect from a Boudin SF. Parking is a pain because it shares parking spaces with Krave, Souplantation. and the Raddison Hotel. So coming during peak hours, drop off your party while you look for a parking space, you will walk! I will definitely return to this location during off-peak hours. Tuna Melt. That's what you need to try here if you're a tuna lover! The bread and cheese and the blend of tuna is the absolute best combination of flavors that your palette will enjoy. The bread is toasted to perfection! With every bite you take, you're almost wishing this sandwich will never end. I come here a bit before the 11 o'clock lunch hour starts. It's never too busy at that time. Which is a plus because we order when we get here and have to wait a bit but it's worth it because it always tastes so fresh. Everyone here is very friendly and attentive. Although its not really table service because you order up front, they are always checking on you once they've brought your food to the table. So I guess it's like 75% table service. The parking in front of the location is very minimal but there is a lot right behind where you can find more spots. Next to the soy plantation. This review is based on one visit. I met a friend and former colleague for breakfast one morning. Parking was a nightmare as there are only a few spaces in front of the shop. The rest of the parking will be in the parking garage. In my experience the hotel parking overflowed into the shopping spaces for a 9:00 AM meet-up. I ordered the traditional breakfast served with eggs over-medium, potato wedges, bacon and sourdough toast with a coffee to drink. Breakfast is hard to get wrong and this was an average breakfast. The sourdough toast was good and as well as the coffee. The rest was OK. I have been to locations in San Francisco and Disney California Adventure where I had eaten lunch. I may return to this location in the future but came here based on a specific request. Hopefully the next visit will be for lunch. Three stars! read more

The food was delicious at this place. My fiancée and I ordered the clam chowder sourdough bread bowl and the grilled cheese with bacon which also came with a salad. The sourdough bread bowl was a good temperature when it was served. The clam chowder was warm and fresh. The bread that was cut out from the bread bowl wasn't hard to chew. The bread was soft but not too soft either. The whipped butter that was served with it was the perfect texture with the bread as well. The grilled cheese bacon was good too. The cheese was savory and what I especially liked best was seeing the cheese ooze out from the bread. Again the bread was soft and fresh too. Adding the touch of bacon to the grilled cheese was the cherry on top. It was so savory, but not in an overwhelming kind of way. It was the type of savory that makes you want to take another bite. The ambience at this location was calm and peaceful. The server who brought our food over was friendly and gave us all the utensils we needed with our food. The service was pretty quick. Horrible service! The bread is small, old, and hard. I wanting to feel the nostalgia of the San Francisco Boudin restaurant visited the Boudin in Irvine with much anticipation but my experience was extremely horrible. The place is run by inexperienced people who do not care about their customers. I bought a sandwich and the bread was as hard as the soles of Charley Chaplin's leather shoes. When I took a bite I was pulling the hard bread so hard the meat and tomato and lettuce all squished out the bottom of the sandwich and flopped out onto my lap. The sandwich did not taste like it was described on the menu. It was as though the people created their own mix of weird things as a replacement for the description listed ingredients. Like they ran out of the ingredients and cut corners to pretend that it was what was on the menu. They made their own concoction for sandwich spread. Completely weird taste. I had to drive all the way back and asked to return the sandwich but the man who worked there was so upset he got nose to nose with me telling me that that's how the bread comes out and it's normal. He even without manners tapped his finger onto the hard bread and mush in the wrapper I brought back (as though that gesture was going to convince me that hard bread is acceptable). Rather than saying I'm so sorry how can I make your experience better he rather give excuses for selling week old hard bread. I've had this sandwich in San Francisco and the baguette was soft, delicious, and not old and hard like the one I returned. Not to mention in San Francisco you get what you order there's no imitation ingredients. I thought to exchange the sandwich for a bread bowl and saw that the bread bowls were so small what a waste. So I didn't get it. Eventually after having to stand in line and wait after they knew well they needed to assist me they went to the back and hid out rather than stand at the front to help their customers especially when there's an issue that's wrong. When they decided to help me they threw my sandwich in the trash without settling the negotiations of my complaint. Then I finally got my refund for the sandwich it came without the money I spent on the tax. So I asked for the money I spent on tax for the sandwich and the girl said that that's how the cash register rings it up and I had to say NO.... I paid tax and I want it back.... so she had to figure a way to give it back to me as well. The bad part is if I did not bring up the issue I would have been short changed which is completely illegal and unfair. I left hungry they didn't try to offer me something else. I can't imagine other people getting a refund without getting the money they spent on tax back with their refund. Needless to say my sandwich was thrown in the trash like a basketball by the rude man who worked there he needs professional development and better management skills. In addition no who worked there said I'm so sorry for the inconvenience or the difficulties you were caused almost pulling your front teeth out in an attempt to eat this cement bread. This location is really dead empty in the middle of the day. We literally saw a worker sleeping in one of the booths haha. (She was obviously on her break or maybe just tremendously bored because of the lull in customers). What we ate: 1 french dip and chili combo 1 roast beef and cheddar sandwich and clam chowder combo Bill was $29 French dip is served on sourdough bread with au jus. This was the best item we had. The au jus is AMAZING! They serve it with a side of horseradish that I highly suggest you mix into the au jus!!! Chili was cold. Maybe it didn't warm all the way through in the warmer. The top was fine, but soon after my first bite I realized it wasn't heated properly. We were going to ask someone to heat it but there was no one at the register when we went to ask. So we just opted to not eat it. Chowder was so disappointing! IT WAS RUNNY LIKE WATER. The consistency was not at all the creamy chowder I have had from Boudin in the past. It was under-salted for my taste as well. So sad. The roast beef and cheddar sandwich is also served on sourdough and it was meh. I think the sandwich would be better as a melt. Ordering the food was very simple, all you have to do is to tap on the food or beverage you want on the large screen once you entered the restaurant, and it usually takes about 5-7 minutes for your meal to be served. Their food is tasty, the clam chowder is my personal favorite. The restaurant is clean, and no streaks of food or dirt were on the table or seat. Amazingly fresh. Had the combo sourdough bread bowl with clam chowder and tuna melt. The bread on both the sandwich and the bowl were out of the world fresh. The tuna melt is hands down the best iteration I've ever had. Epic. The clam chowder was slightly under seasoned but the bowl was fresh. WARNING: NOT CLEAN FOOD In a span of 5 minutes here's what I saw. I walked in and the place wasn't busy at all. Workers didn't seem to notice me or make any effort to acknowledge me so I just waited at the register until someone came walking thru the push-door from the kitchen, to the front register. I ordered my soup and asked if their Royal cookie was a chocolate chip cookie, and his reply? "It has chocolate in it." Okay. Not helpful, as that wasn't my question. Fine, whatever. I asked to grab another type of cookie instead, and he grabs the cookie with his gloved hand. BUT!!! He was wearing that glove when I came in, he was touching all the things in their "Togo" station with it, pushed through all the doors with it, touched the register with it, and now you're touching the cookie?! Dude, even Subway uses those little baking sheet papers to grab their cookies. In a time of the highest ever recorded COVID numbers, this is disgusting. Who knows how long he's been wearing those gloves, because he's been touching EVERYTHING since I was in here for just the 5 minutes. After he gave me the cookie he proceeded to walk over to their "Togo station" and he packed my food in the bag and WITH THAT SAME "GLOVED HAND" proceeded to pack me an unwrapped spoon. There's parking in the front of Boudin but it's shared with the adjacent shops so it can be a little tight sometimes. I came to this location at 4:30 PM on a week night and it seemed like a pretty slow time to come. No one was at the register at the time but someone came up to the front and quickly took my order. I've ordered to-go or for pick up from here before and sometimes they take a while, but they immediately got my order ready and I was in and out in probably 3 minutes max. Located on Michelson (and not in Park Place), Boudin SF shares a small space near Souplantation. Parking is extremely limited outdoors, but there is a parking garage that one can park at. It's confusing. They have "retail" and "guest" parking. Actually now that I look back at it, I'm not as confused. :P But I believe that you must choose retail parking since you are, in fact, going off to Boudin SF. When you go in, you see the all familiar great looking sourdough breads that they have in the back with the shapes in animal form. :D Going here is simple enough, order your sandwich, sourdough bread, or bowl (: Impressively enough, the speed at which they give you your items here is ridiculously fast compared to the one at SCP. I think it maybe took 2 minutes after I sat down to get my clam chowder bread bowl. So service here goes fast! Which means they just have the bread already cut and just put the clam chowder quickly in there. What is different here at Boudin is that they cut their bread bowls lower. Yes. Which means you have less clam chowder than the SCP Boudin. The bread lid is bigger, yes, which means you have the same amount of bread, but less clam chowder because the cut now makes the bowl lower, which essentially gives you less clam chowder. The clam chowder? Good. Good on a cold winter day for lunch :) You get to enjoy the creaminess and you get to enjoy the *gasp* clams that come along with the soup! I have to agree with the majority - it's like Panera or Corner Bakery but far FAR better. It's located next to Souplantation and you may find yourself having to park in their lot since there are only a couple spaces in front of Boudin SF. When I first walked in I had to laugh to myself because sitting at the first table I noticed were a couple that looked like they belonged on the cover of a Richard Brautigan novel. Very San Francisco! But as I glanced around, the other patrons were not SF bohemian so it was safe for me to make my way to the counter to order. I took the advice of other yelpers and got a grilled brie, apple & fig sandwich on sourdough plus a bowl (actually a mug) of butternut squash soup. The soup had some walnuts and cranberries mixed in. A bag of Tim's original potato chips were also included with the meal (love 'em). The flavors were just perfection. My head was bobbing around doing a happy dance with each bite I took of that sandwich. Normally I'm not a big soup lover but as I finished my soup I was practically licking the mug clean. I also purchased a lemon bar which was quite good although not the best I ever had. It didn't really look like a typical lemon bar but it did taste lemony. Staff were all very efficient and friendly. When I heard about the oldest restaurant in San Francisco being Boudin, I thought that I had to give it a try since it was walking distance from my hotel. The first time I tried the Turkey Avocado Sandwich and chicken Cesar it was was good. The bread is by far the best part as it is soft and flavorful. The other ingredients were fresh but otherwise not very notable besides the salad being slightly dry. The second visit, I tried the clam chowder and highly recommend the bread bowl. The bread is delicious and you can easily eat the entire bowl. The chowder itself is not the best I have ever had, but it was still good. My largest complaint is that this place is slow due to being understaffed and always busy with online orders which makes it difficult to get in and out quickly. Plan to spend at least 20-30 minutes there by the time you order and wait for your food. I do recommend visiting if you are nearby and want a filling meal. read more

I really appreciate a good piece of sourdough bread. I can also appreciate that Boudin knows how to do bread. However, I would only come here to access good bread and not food. I came here for a quick lunch break today and left half of my food on the plate. I was greeted by a very unenthusiastic employee that said "yeah, what do you want?" I felt slightly awkward ordering especially since I did not have a line behind me. I ordered their special soup and salad. I chose the Waldorf salad which is a personal favorite and the daily special of vegetarian chili in a bread bowl. The Waldorf was topped with smoked mozzarella cheese which was the weirdest thing to put on a Waldorf salad (Bleu cheese, anyone?) and the vegetarian chili tasted like something that was out of the can. The top of the breadbowl was too dense to bite into as well. Overall, I picked the mozz off the salad and ate the salad. I left most of the soup because it frankly, tasted disgusting.
