I love Bova's! I visited once when I had a bunch of time to kill in Boston and decided to go see the Little Italy area. I found Bova's and was glad I did!! The staff were very friendly and walking in felt like I was part of the family. I ordered an eggplant Stromboli/calzone and it was delicious. I also got some arancini to go, and they gave me instructions on how to heat it up (both for oven or microwave), which meant to me that they really want you to have the best experiences with their food. Dessert-wise, I got a lemon bar (amazing and tart), a slice of Boston cream pie (also amazing), and a black and white cookie (not frosted the way you'd typically find them in New York (they just used vanilla and chocolate buttercream), but it was still good!). If I was more local, I'd definitely go back on a regular basis to try everything on menu!! read more

Bova's is my favorite bakery in the north end. Open 24/7 and the family who runs it is truly wonderful. I've had just about every baked good they make so I consider myself quite the expert. The fruit tarts are my hands down favorite. Order several, they will keep a few days thanks to a clear sugar glaze on the fruit. You can never go wrong with a lobster tail or cannoli although I personally prefer Mike's for these two pastries specifically. However Mike's does not have my favorite kind of cannoli called Florentine and Bova's does! I always order at least 2, they are much bigger than a normal cannoli but I absolutely adore them and can never just order one. The cheesecake is rich and creamy. My favorite flavors are strawberry and blueberry. The chocolate dipped strawberries are hugeeee and cheap as dirt. The Milanos, lemon snowballs, linzers, wedding cookies, and any of the sugar cookies dipped in bright colored sprinkles are sooooooo good. Finally if you're here late at night with the munchies for something savory try a calzone. The spinach and cheese is my go to. read more

Their pastries are superb but the staff and cleanness...not so much. Staff is very quiet, and even if they do talk, they get annoyed easily. I barely see staff wearing gloves or their masks correctly. Hairnets are not used in this bakery...at all. Floor is always dirty everytime I stop by. read more

Excellent bakery in the North End! Came for the Italian rainbow cookies and was not disappointed. Amazingly fresh and delicious. The owner was so sweet and gave my friend's one year old son a little cookie for the road. I would skip Mike's and go straight to Bova's. read more

Wow! Thank gosh we went to Dino's for dinner! Let me tell you.... my friend suggested Mikes or Mods for Italian baked goods ( she is Italian and lived in Italy, she knows her stuff). Anyways, she said both bakeries are known for their cannolis (which neither of us are a fan of, however when in Rome...). So needless to say the good ol hubs and I stopped by each place ( I discussed this in a previous review of Cafe Vittoria). We decided we would come back the following day, but after dinner at Dino's I wanted to pop in to Bova's. This small bakery brought me right back to Naples... from the amazing selection of decadency, to the enormous lobster tail cornucopia stuffed with butter cookies.... I was in awe. Everywhere I looked there was something amazingly decorated, whether it be the colors, the shape, the textures and fillings..... I was in heaven. Unfortunately I struggle with a bit of black and white thinking aka OCD... so we had to leave empty handed and go to Mikes bc that was the original plan. But when we got there I just wasn't impressed, and begged my babe to go back to Bova's. He's such a sweetie and appeased me... and we ended up with the most delicious of treats! I would DEFINITELY come here again.... and if I lived in the are I would come often and for all our baking/ party/ holiday needs ( as what the locals were doing during our second stop by...). The staff was mixed between friendly ( seemed to be to the locals) to typical Italians....which made the ambience even better! I seriously loved this bakery and you will too! So skip the other places and come here... it's literally a 2 minute walk off the main drag of Little Italy. Btw- we got the vanilla square ( a huge piece of cake with chocolate frosting and whipped cream), a chocolate dipped chocolate chip cookie ( which I'm pretty sure was biscotti shaped like a cookie) and another italian cookie that I need to look up... almost like a burnt molasses or brittle with chocolate ( so damn good)!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Went to visit Boston to try the lobster rolls. I stumbled on this place during one of the impossibly long lines for one of the rolls. Actually this place was so much more satisfying and delicious. Very friendly staff offering a variety of great looking pastry. The peanut butter bomb was delicious. The chocolate cake and cupcakes (both yellow and chocolate) needed to be a bit sweeter. Overall it was pretty good. read more

My FAVE fave FAVE pastry/everything food place in Boston. I have lived here for almost 4 years, and this is still the best place at 2pm or 2am. The best cannolis, service is so great (especially the saints dealing with the drunk crowd at 2am...not that I would know :)), and their other non-pastry items are also wonderful. I guess open 24 hours means low quality control. Nothing is outstanding - almost everything here tastes like it's 3 days old or more. When you take your pastries home you better finish them that day because there's no hope in keeping them. The mousse is dry, the flavored cannolis are both dry (the ricotta) and stale/soggy (the crust). The heath bar and snickers bar are sickly sweet and the coffee cake is dry. The snow balls are way too dense and the icing and cake somehow both overpower each other. If you have other options, strongly consider them. read more

I was staying in the North End for work and decided to try out some local places. Either this place is way overrated or I got the wrong things, because I did not like what I tried and will not be returning. I got two types of rice crispy treats and they were both so soft and crumbly... the bakery clearly uses oil (cheaper) instead of butter. They went straight in the trash. I also got a slice of cheesecake and that too was not very creamy and extremely mediocre. I also ordered a plain cannoli to try and it was SOGGY. Cannoli should exist as an empty, crispy cookie shell and then should be filled with cream after it's ordered. The end. Everything I bought went straight in the trash. Don't waste our time in line and go elsewhere... to NYC! read more

OMG!! Coming from the south after being born and raised in the north you can't find an Italian bakery. Our weekend trip to see the Red Sox play ended the best way to with a trip to Bova's Bakery! Amazing !!!! This is a must in Boston. So many options. Even the sandwiches are fresh and delicious. My friends ordered the cannoli and lobster tail they were delicious. Ate the Parmesan chicken sandwich and it was sooooo good. Ordered the Boston cream donut and it was yummy cake donut. The surrounding area is a great place to walk around and many Italian restaurants. Peet's coffee down the street if you want coffee with your bakery choices. Would definitely recommend !! read more

The aducaity that they would put fake chicken in their $16 FROZEN CHICKEN ALFREDO PASTA is absurd! I've been coming here for the last decade and never in my wildest dream that I think id go home with this piece of sh!t frozen soy "chicken?!" WOW! Please if you're going to up the price at least keep the same quality! LITERALLY ONE OF THE BEST CALZONES I'VE HAD IN MY LIFE (and I hate calzones). Got the broccoli chicken calzone. It was heated for a minute behind the counter so when it came back out, the calzone was just NICE AND WARM AND JUST GREAT sitting in my hands. The cheese just melted in my mouth and the bread was just super soft and delicious. I wish I bought more calzones and just left it at my house to heat up for lunch/dinner. But DAMN! I'd suggest to get calzones and dessert here with your friend/date and take it to the pier to eat! Staff is AMAZINGLY friendly and helpful too! One of my favorite finds during my one day exploration of Boston. This Italian bakery in the North End is quite a treat. The cases are filled with such beautiful cakes and pastries, it was hard to make a choice! I ended up with a mini lobster tail that I immediately enjoyed while exploring the streets. The pastry was light, crispy, and flaky. The cream was decadent but not cloyingly sweet. It was so good! Not only was the pastry so beautiful but it's taste left me wanting more. read more

Most of the bakeries in the North End are really great! Bova's is no exception but the selections are hit or miss. Long story short: just get the Florentine cannoli! Lobster tail was okay but not ricotta. Black and White cookie was stale and the icing had poor taste. Finally, the chocolate chip cannoli was okay but Mike's or Modern definitely make it better. I do enjoy having another option without the lines. The 24/7 hours are awesome as well! read more

Bovas is awesome! A must place to stop at while in the north end, feels very local and authentic! Open 24/7 so perfect for late night snacks - they have pizza and the rice balls are perfection!!! Came to Bova's after seeing a lot of good reviews and to experience a rare 24 hour restaurant in Boston (I went at 2am and at 8pm). Both times, the food was lackluster. The cannolis did not seem fresh and some of the ricotta flavors were much too light for the hardness of the shell. There was a large selection of flavors, but I would rather have a few flavors that are really exceptional. However, the size of the cannolis allowed us to try a bunch of flavors, which you would never be able to do at Mike's. All in all, the experience and novelty of Bova's sets it apart from the Boston cannoli pack, but don't expect the best dessert you've ever had. read more

Bova's is an experience. You walk in to what initially looks like a small corner store, only to discover vast counters of pastries, breads, stromboli, and assorted groceries. It's definitely owned by wizards because it's way bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. The other evidence that it's owned by wizards is that everything there and I mean ev.ry.thing. is amazing. Get a quick 'lil stromboli warmed up for you on the spot, eat it for lunch, you're golden. You're actually shining with a golden stromboli glow. Buy bread, buy cannolis, get it all to go, take it on the road, eat it all. Stuff it in your face and come back for more. I haven't told you the best part though, which is that at any time you might be craving some kind of Italian foody goodness, they're there for you. Like a good neighbor, Bova's is there. Twenty-four hours a day. If it's 4:30 in the morning and your tummy is craving the sweet sweet lovin' of a bag of Italian cookies, you know where to go. Bova's. Go to Bova's. Eat. Heard about this place being a great place for cannoli, even better than some of the more well known places in the North End like Mike's or Modern. I tried the Florentine cannoli and Creme Brulee cannoli and some almond cookies. Love that they have such an interesting assortment of cannoli flavors as well as other classic Italian pastries. They also have sandwiches, arancini, and other food items. It can get a little crowded inside and there's no seating, so take your order to go and find a place outside to enjoy it. read more

How disappointing. I live 4 blocks from this bakery and have been going for YEARS. During high tourist season ,I have always called ahead to have them put it together. Never an issue. I called to day and was told "we are too busy to out together an order for you" . The order consists of a pound of boxed cookies and 3 loaves of bread. If she is too busy to help a neighborhood customer, then I have to ask what is the difference when she is helping the tourists in front of her?? I am SO incredibly disappointed. I read more
