About 2 years ago, I started going to BRRacing to help me maintain and setup my Porsche 997, which is mainly a track car. This was after a horrible experience with another Bay Area Porsche "speciality", in which the car failed at a track day event. I've been extremely happy with BRRacing, Bruce and the team have the knowledge and experience to maintain and set up Porsche's for track use. They also do work on pretty much all other European car makes and models. I recently had my car in for regular servicing and also had the team at BRRacing install a Guard LSD. Given the stories I've heard about LSD installs gone bad and prior bad experiences from another shop, I could not be more pleased with my experience at BRRacing. The work was explained to me up so I knew what the install process was like. I was also given an estimated time, which was acheived with no delays. Since my car is used on track mainly, they also advised me of any potential saftey issues from their inspection. They were not pushy at in in having extra work done. They provided me with the facts and allowed me to make my own decisions. Something else that is unique about BRRacing, is they they never once tried to up-sell anything. They want to make sure that any upgrades or work will provide value to the customer. If you own a Porsche and/or use your car on track, BRRacing is a shop you should consider. Being new to the area, I was looking for a shop to look after my old Porsche 944 Turbo - including a pretty substantial refresh of the M030 suspension, brakes, tires and much more. Too many bad stories from my friends who have gone here in the past. I'll admit that I went here for a few items to get worked on, but after hearing all the stories and seeing the high school aged "technicians" working on a midpipe swap (I swear the car was about to fall off the lift), I decided to never bring my car here. They do have great prices, but compared to other shops in the bay, it's not that great of a deal. Bring your car to another shop that has more experience under it's belt. read more

These guys get a solid "meh." If you're not bringing in a brand new Ferrari or Porsche, you're in the back of the queue as far as work goes. They had my car for over 2 weeks. Ended up being $240 just for diagnostic work (Half of that diagnostic work I had already done myself, informed them of it, and they promptly ignored it and did the work themselves anyways) Sure, they're *really* good mechanics, but they're not worth being shrugged off for more affluent customers. This is the place for you if and only if you're a high roller. Oh, also I was told that my car was ready so I came in to pick up the car, paid, put the key in the ignition, and the engine wouldn't turn over. I popped the hood and saw that they had forgot to reconnect the intake to the engine. So yeah. There went 30 minutes of my life while they fixed a car that was supposedly ready to go. read more

I had a terrible whining noise coming out of my 2009 E92 M3 which was fairly intermittent and couldn't always be reproduced. It had been on and off for a couple months so I finally made an appointment with BR Racing to try to get it isolated. I used to always go to the dealer since my car is a performance vehicle and I frankly didn't really trust anyone with it beyond factory-trained technicians. However, I thought BR Racing might be a good option to try out since they specialize in cars like mine and seemed to share a passion for motorsports. One look at the type of cars sitting in their shop and it was pretty clear I had made a wise choice. Unfortunately the day I brought it in, the noise wasn't super apparent, so they didn't charge me to check it out since they couldn't reproduce enough to determine the root cause. They did give me some confidence that there wasn't anything really wrong with my engine since they spent some time trying to find the problem, and told me to just bring it in whenever I experienced the noise again. I paid for the other work they performed and ordered some other parts for a return visit to be completed later. A couple weeks later, the noise came back, so I brought it in without any appointment, and one of their technicians, Rico, was able to diagnose and fix for me on the spot. It turned out to be a fairly basic problem -- low power steering fluid, which honestly, my dealer should have caught the last time I brought it in for service since they supposedly did a full inspection which was supposed to include checking all fluid levels. Rico topped off the fluids, test drove it with me to make sure that was the source and sent me on my way with some tips for what to listen/look for in case it was a larger problem. What I love about these guys is their honesty and extreme helpfulness. Many places would have charged for the initial diagnosis, whether they found something or not, and, some less ethical ones probably would have tried to sell me a new power steering pump. Thank you, Bruce, Robb and Rico for your expertise and outstanding customer service. Highly recommend these guys. I'm never going back to the dealer again, as I think I've found my new "regular" shop. For those wondering, there is also a Hertz rental car right next door, so if you need to drop off and still have a car to drive, that's a convenient option. These guys are the best, I went in to have my E39 cooling system looked at in hopes that I could put off an overhaul for another few months, but sadly my fears were correct and I needed a new radiator and t-stat housing. I was planning to do the overhaul myself, but BR hooked me up and did a complete overhaul of the system for a good price, and I did not have to buy a bunch of new tools for the fan removal. By far the best experience I have ever had at a shop. I usually fix my own cars, but I don't have much time the older I get, I think I have finally found a shop that I trust will not rip me off and gets the job done right. Don't listen to the smear campaign by some of the other reviewers on yelp or forums that are moderated by the exact same people, BR Racing is a great shop. Some people are only happy when they are being jerks, and I quote from another reviewer, "I had my RTABs done and everything is fine, but I might break down someday after driving like a girl and it will be BR's fault and not the fact that I drive around a slammed M3 on 101". If I had a dollar for every BMW owner that drives like an ass I would be a rich man. BR Racing is a great shop, if they mess up I will change my review, but I trust the guys there would make it right before that would happen. read more

I've started to take my BMW to BRRacing for repair work. I found out about BRRacing through a web forum (www.e46fanatics.com). They consistently earn high praise and reviews in European automotive forums. The entire staff and management at BRRacing are very friendly, accommodating and professional. My experience here has been nothing less then great. I had maintenance issues that needed attention, and they welcomed me into their shop even though I didn't come to them for racing applications. Ok so my previous review stands. As I've continued to go to BR I've received nothing but excellent service. Every time I want something done I send an email describing what I have in mind and shortly thereafter they send me a detailed estimate for the services. Even when I mentioned some discounts I can get on my own they allow me to send the parts to them even if I am getting them on my own. If I find a lower price they do allow me to bring in the other estimate and they try to match it if possible. Also, since I saw the 1 star review below, I have to say I was never offered a discount for posting a review. Other friends who go here haven't had that experience either. Given I've been going here exclusively for over a year now it's a little hard to believe. Regardless, this is my personal, un-biased experience here. Just felt that there was some merit in mentioning that there was -at least for me- no incentive to post a good review. I'll be going back within the next month or so to do a T-belt change and to install some new rims and tires. Very thorough. Lots of prep for a "standard" service on my Audi A4. It's a low-mileage 6-speed that I love. I was planning on taking it to be detailed (my 2 dogs have "trashed" the back seat) elsewhere after the service but found out that I could get a complete cleaning inside & out by a guy who contracts with them. So a longer wait than I had scheduled but I drove away with a serviced and detailed car. I like not going thru a dealer and went to them based on the Yelp reviews. I was not disappointed and was happy to find someone who specializes in German cars. This place is quiet, low-key and professional. I liked being able to set up the appt and get a quote via email. The waiting area is comfortable and clean for being inside a garage. The only challenge is finding them - they're in the far corner of the Wheel Works and Precision Auto building on Los Gatos Blvd. Note that they are within walking distance of Erik's Deli and a pizza place. read more

I found this place thru my cousin. Met Rob and Bruce and both knew what they were talking about right away. I went to many other shops but most of them either didn't knew what to do or didn't do everything that had to be done to get my job done right. I found sonic motorsports earlier but the guy was a joke and had a horrible attitude. I've built 2 cars in my youth years and have done many mechanical work when i was younger. So when a mechanic talks to me, i know more than what they think i know. BR racing was more expensive than the other shops, but their quality of work is superb. If you are looking for a cheap work or have a average vehicle, please do not waist your time nor BR racings time by contacting this place. This is a high end shop. Bruce, Robb, and team are absolute pros! I brought my Aston Martin V8 Vantage in to install a set of H&R springs. After submitting my inquiry, I immediately received a response from Robb. He was polite, professional, and incredibly detailed in his explanation of the necessary work to install the springs. I really appreciate auto shops that take the time to explain things. When I came by to pick it up, both Robb and Bruce made sure I understood everything they did, including the alignment, which they also walked me through the specs to ensure I was confortable with it. They provided one of the more competitive quotes for the installation and when talking with Bruce on the phone, he knew what he was talking about. I was thoroughly impressed with this automotive / racing shop from the moment I first got there & arrived at their door step. Once I walked in the door & saw their nice comfy waiting area fitted with a plush leather couch, a large HD TV & fish tank in front - I knew these guys were not messing around. The two co-owners (the father & son team) were very nice guys, highly knowledgable & extremely patient with me. I'm a very picky person, especially when it comes to cars. Both of them made sure all the fine details were ironed out & I was having exactly what I wanted to have done to my E39 M5. The 2002 BMW M5 I brought to them needed a new RMS, clutch, flywheel assembly, all 4 cam position sensor (CPS's) & an E60 545i OEM SSK kit installed. They quickly got this large job done & it was done correctly the first time. I have trust issues when it comes to leaving one of my prized possessions at any. But I was happy I took my car to them & very pleased. I'm highly satisfied with their level of work & expertise throughout the whole process. I'm not at all surprised that there are a truckload of 5-star reviews here. BR Racing is a quality shop. I'm not sure what the other reviewers meant with regards to unprofessional looking guys working on cars or bad customer service. The guys in the shop itself are super-friendly, and the shop floor is MOPPED every day, just like the dealership. These guys are meticulous about keeping a top-notch shop. And as for customer service, they are at the top of their game. Bruce and Rob respond to emails within an hour or two, and they'll even use gchat to IM you. A mechanic that will respond to an IM! Rad. As for their work, I've been very happy with its quality and its cost. I'm a price-sensitive kind of guy, and these guys respect and work with that. I recently had an Inspection I done on my 2000 328 and it came back feeling buttery smooth again, and they didn't neglect to tighten up my parking brake that had become loose over the years (granted that's part of the scope of an Inspection I...). They've replaced two window regulators (fellow E46 owners know my pain...) and their price is the best in the south bay. I did have a bit of a nervous experience a week after the Inspection I, when I needed to replace a good deal of my cooling system; I said to myself, ok, this is kind of suspicious. They work on my car and then my car needs more work! Then a couple weeks after the cooling system I had to bring it in again for an oil pressure sensor! But the thing is, the sensor is in the bottom of the oil pan. Why would they have spent time going to the bottom of my oil pan just to get more money out of me? The thing is, my car is 10 years old and it's a BMW...things are going to start going wrong, even in clusters like this. I'm 99% sure that these were legitimate problems, but I'll come back and revise my review if I find out otherwise. Bruce and Rob are father and son. How cool is that, a family auto shop! Figured I'd update my review as it's been over 2 years since my first review and BR Racing has grown up... a lot. Physically, they now occupy 3 garages on-site and an office / reception area. As a business, they are truly full-service. They stored and cared for my car for over a year while I was living in Europe, and I wouldn't have done it any other way. The car was kept covered, clean, battery charged, etc at a climate-controlled offsite storage area. I even sent my parents by to have the timing belt done on their Allroad, and they did it better and at a fraction of the cost of the dealer. I've also been back for a few more toys since I've been back, and BRR doesn't fail to satisfy with their quality work, consultation, and breadth of service. Today, they can do everything from powdercoating to mounting and balancing to custom fabrication. The possibilities are limitless. Customer service has kicked up a notch, and my emails are responded to quickly and efficiently. I still stand by my 5 star review for BRRacing! I have now been a couple of times for more work on my '98 Audi A4 2.8L and they consistently provide great services. BRRacing is busy shop and for all the right reasons - they do quality work, they are honest and detailed in their estimates and servicing, and I feel they really worked with me on how much I could spend and prioritizing the services my car needed. I bought my car at a lower price knowing it had problems (major oil leak, awful suspension). BRRacing helped to identify issues, set up a plan of action for attacking the worst issues first, and figuring out how to fit within my budget. They have really worked with me on every single visit, depending on the situation. As other problems for my car arose (misfiring issue due to camshaft sensor), they helped to fit it into the equation. When a surprise "no reverse" issue occurred, they fit me into their busy schedule. It took a couple of days for them to get time for me, but I understood since I was pretty much dropping the issue into their lap and others had appointments. For every visit that I have had, their customer service has been supreme - they have picked me up, they have dropped me off at work/home, and they also take the time to explain what work was done on my car in detail (I ask a lot of pesky questions, I want to know more than how much does it cost). *** I read through other reviews and find the comments about "no seating/brand new cars only/emails with no reply" really silly - they have seating, my car is not brand new, I have seen other older cars there, and I receive replies to my emails, though there have been times when it has taken more than 1 day. *** Great group of people, awesome shop, make an appointment and they will take care of you! Bruce and team were fantastic. Brought my S4 in for an oil change after Bruce found a way to squeeze me into their schedule last minute. While my car was on the lift, the technician adjusted my after market exhaust tips after noticing that they were a little too close to the rear valance panel. He re-centered them and made sure they were flush with the panel (they were sticking out a bit too much prior). I had the after market exhaust done at a different shop and BRR took care of this adjustment at no additional cost. AWESOME! This was the first time I went to BRR. I enjoyed talking with Bruce about a potential brake upgrade in the future and now that I have experienced their work and kindness, I will definitely be back. read more

The guys at BRR are great. More than what I had expected. I hesitated at first since they were a good 1.5 hours drive from Vallejo. I heard about them thru a car forum and I thought to myself WTF do BMW guys know about Audis? Well, they knew enough to get the job done! I came in for rear rotors, rear pads, tranny service, and front CV boot. They have a customer lounge seperated within the the shop w/ a nice flat screen, wi-fi, magazines galore, etc... I wish these guys were closer now that im out of warranty =( which by the way isnt an Audi anymore. Yup, im in a BMW and so far im lovin it as you can tell in my pics. Hopefully it wont be to long before I can get down to BRR for some work! Location was key as well. I was able to grab lunch, get my toes and nails done (yes, I get minicures and pedicures MF'er). I recently brought my BMW 330i to BR Racing to have some performance modifications installed and I'm extremely pleased with the results. To start from the beginning, I worked with Robb for over a week to discuss the many directions we could take with my car. After coming up with a plan, he then invited me to the shop to discuss it further. I was warmly greeted and the entire experience was great. They put my car on a lift and thoroughly explained the work that would be involved. I placed some high demands on these guys and they answered the call with some serious custom fabrication. So back in mid-2007 I had my springs, shocks, and rear shock mounts installed on my 2001 M3. My car ended up being a bit too low and rubbed in the rear so they had to roll my rear fenders. I agreed to that and paid for that on top of the install. I thought all was good until I had others point out my fenders were barely rolled. I figure what was done was done, there was nothing I could do and I left it at that. Fast foward to 2009 - I switch to a wider set of wheels/tires and the wheels would rub more on one side than the other due to an incomplete fender roll. Of course being really upset and annoyed at this, anytime the name BR Racing came up on the forums I would describe my displeasure with my fender roll service. Walter finds one of my posts and sends me an e-mail saying BR Racing will fix whatever issues I had with my car free of charge. They said had I gave them a call (even 2 years later) they would warranty ALL of their work. Now this is top notch customer service! I went back, they fixed my fender roll perfectly and now I can drive with my 19x10.5 rear wheels with no rubbing. Honestly I'm not used to a shop backing their work, I've been to plenty of shops with my past cars and they have always never accepted any responsibility for bad work. This is where BR Racing differentiates themselves from others - they will go out of their way to make sure the customer is satisfied 110% and make things right. read more

Found out about BR from Yelp and tons of other research. I am so glad that I went to BR. I brought my 2009 E350 for an upgrade, after comparing the knowledge and prices for the equivalent work at other local shops. I found BR to professionals, with excellent customer service, a well-designed/maintained facility who took pride in their work and treated my satisfaction as if it were the most important thing in the world. To top it all off, they provided a warranty for the work done, which was a very pleasant surprise. Rob and Bruce!! I came into the office for the first time on Wednesday and all I said was "My engine light went off and my whole car started shaking and is having a hard time accelerating." Immediately, Rob asked if I had an Audi A4. He knew exactly what the problem was and what car I had and I had hardly said anything at all! Clearly, everyone there is very knowledgeable. I felt so comfortable because Rob explained everything that was potentially wrong with my car and told me all the steps they would be taking to fix it. They also emailed me estimates and called me before they did any work. Also! Because I was without car, they sent over a ride to pick me up! Such great service. I don't own the fanciest car and I was a bit intimidated going in because of all the nice cars around but once I actually talk to the guys in the office, I felt a lot more at ease. I've only been here once last month and it was a great experience. I noticed major vibrations while driving and suspected a failed wheel bearing. I called BR the next morning and they agreed to see the car immediately (which is awesome). Bruce took a ride and noticed other clunking noises which I knew about and said if he could figure them out, please fix. Later the same day, they had fixed the wheel bearing and found bolts missing from the underbody brace (clunking noise). After thinking about it, I asked to replace the other front wheel bearing as a preventative measure, and they kept the car to finish up the next morning. I've been driving the car on every road surface, and it drives perfectly, with no clunking noises whatsoever. Service from end-to-end, including a ride home, was top-notch and prices were very reasonable, especially the labor costs (which some places charge way too high). My BMW 540 had an electrical problem that was misdiagnosed by 2 previous shops. One of which was a trusted engine builder of mine and the other shop being BMW of Fremont. In any case, without much previous information from the other shops, BRracing took my car, diagnosed in 1 day and had it completely fixed the next day!! Two months out and the car is experiencing no electrical problems. These guys are the experts and will now always be my goto choice for repairs and maintenance. Robb and Bruce are straight shooters and always get right to the point. No fluff and I really appreciate that. BRRacing has always taken great care of me and my 2006 MINI Cooper. I started bringing my car to them in 2010 when I got involved in autocross and a few track days each year and wanted people who know performance cars to work on mine. The first time I went, I felt a little intimidated by the other cars being worked on: Porsches, BMW M Series models, even some Ferraris; several cars worth over $100k. I wondered whether my much more humble car (which is primarily my daily commuting car and only secondarily a weekend competition car), simple automotive aspirations and smaller budget would fit in at the shop. I'm happy to say that I've always been welcome with open arms by Bruce and Rob, who are as pleased to educate me about the service and upgrade options that fit my budget as they are for experienced racers seeking much more ambitious work. They are always very clear about differentiating between what needs to be done on the car and what is optional. Called yesterday, went in today, for a brake fluid flush (also clutch as part of same system). Dealt with Bruce in the office, wonderful person, great communicator. Dealt with Rico in the engine bay as he was the assigned technician, very knowledgeable about audi/vw and true enthusiast. My Audi TT was test driven and I was told that my brakes are not too noticeably soft (was wet out so it couldn't be slammed hard), but that because it has been four years since the last known flush, we should flush them for safety. Once they began the process of preparing for the brake flush and safety inspection, Rico reported that the bleed nipples could be too tight (as result of over-tightening by other shop, or corrosion) so it was best for me to return on a day I could leave the car for more than a couple hours in the event a bleed nipple broke or needed to be removed with a drill or other tool. I incredibly appreciated their honesty, their attention to detail, and concern for me as a client and my preparedness for having my car out of my hands. I will be calling back to schedule the service when I can leave the car (in the event a bleed nipple is not cooperative). Also, even though my car was the least sexy, powerful, or newest of cars in their engine bay, the treated me like any other owner. They discussed upgrade options in passing with me. They offered to show me components on their own personal cars. They also spend the time to explain, which for some people is the hardest part of dealing with mechanics, being in the dark. I walked out not being asked to pay a thing for that days work. My experience is limited for now, but I highly recommend. read more

Took my 3.8 GT3RS to them for basic track set up. Was really impressed with Bruce and Robb's professionalism and intimate knowledge of these cars. The mechanics are first rate and they have a great, clean shop with top notch equipment. They also mounted and balanced some race tires on very expensive wheels on a very great mounting machine that left no marks nor scratches. All the work was done in a very timely fashion, which is more impressive given the car was there over the holidays. I've had no issues communicating with them, even getting emails back on Sunday night or quick responses to PMs on forums. Will definitely be taking my car back there for more work. read more
