I'm so excited to share my experience ... I just had an all electric mini-split system installed, replacing 40 year old oil-type wall heaters. I feel like I'm in a completely different home! For those of you living with all electric, this heat/cooling system is economical, highly efficient and John and his team are experts at helping you select the best layout for your home, and then installing in a matter of 2-3 days. Chance was the 'lead' on this complex project, and he's just simply amazing. I dislike writing negative reviews, but I have called Bragg's to query their service. No answer. I emailed. No answer. They came to the house a couple of hours after they said they would (no call to let me know they'd be late) and quoted 200+ dollars to replace a plastic part in my toilet, then told me the upstairs toilet needed fixing. The price seemed wrong, so I called another plumber on a recommendation from a friend (should have done that first). He fixed it, charged less than a quarter of the price for the plastic part, and told me there was nothing wrong with my other toilet. No up-selling and no nonsense from this second plumber. I've asked Bragg's to refund the service charge for doing nothing but giving me what was obviously on inflated price. Their refusal to respond shows they know they are in the wrong. I'm only writing this review to recommend that if, like me, you are clueless about plumbing, don't use Bragg's. Instead find a plumber who will be honest about pricing -- and what needs fixing and what doesn't. read more

I always try to buy from and support local businesses but these guys make that very difficult to do with outright price gouging tactics. Buyer beware, I called to have my AC looked at for a $89 diagnostic call. The tech identified the problem within 15 min which was a capacitor located within the outdoor condensor unit. To my astonishment I was quoted a price of $750 to replace the capacitor! I reluctantly agreed to have the part replaced as we are currently in dangerous heat wave and I have been without AC for 2 days. After the tech left I pulled the panel on the condesor unit and located the capacitor. After shutting the breaker to the unit I removed the capacitor and found several replacement options online for $25. Bragg wants $750 to perform a 5 min service call and replace a $25 part? I canceled the replacement with Bragg immediately. I ordered the part on amazon with 1 day shipping for under $100. Buyer beware, these guys are price gouging taking advantage of people and during the worst possible time during a dangerous heatwave. This behavior is deplorable and reprehensible. read more

Our Dryer wasn't drying very well so we knew it was time for vent cleaning. We called Bragg Plumbing and Heating. Tracy was out in a couple of days, on time and ready to go! Tracy was very professional, knew his business, explained everything so we understood how and why the clothes weren't drying properly. We feel so much safer now knowing how dryer fires are so dangerous and preventable with maintenance. Will definitely call Bragg whenever we need any plumbing or heating needs. I found a bat in my bedroom and Animal Control thought it might have come from the bedroom vent. Carmen and Chace were great. They came out right away, within an hour of my phone call. They checked the vents in my unit, determined there were no bats in the vent, covered the two bedroom vents over with duct tape (just so I'd feel better) and didn't even charge me for their time. I'm so appreciative of their help and I highly recommend them to everyone. read more

This is our second review of Bragg and the excellent service continues. This time it was a problem in a pipe under the house. Tracy and Chance were the techs and it was Chance who entered and worked in the crawl space. It took three hours to deal with the problem with a successful result. These guys are great in every way. Bragg came out to fix a leaking toilet. I was having company the next day and needed the repair done promptly. Technician was very polite and said the bolt was broken and repaired it and replaced the wax ring. Technician told me if it happened again the estimated repair would be about $1500 because they would need to go under the house. Three months later my toilet is leaking again. I had my son-in-law look at it. 1. the supposed broken bolt did not look as if it had been replaced. The bolt was much too rusty to have been brand new three months ago. 2. Turns out the bolt was loose. 3. The wax ring that the Bragg replaced was not installed properly. It should have had an additional small wax ring on top to accommodate the depth of the tile. The wax ring he installed was hardly even touching and was not seeded in to prevent leaking. The $49 rebate for first service was not offered and I had to call the company to obtain that. I'm glad I didn't call them to come back out to charge me $1500 to make a repair that was less than $25. I would not use this company again. read more

I definitely agree with many of the previous reviews. $299 for less than an hours work (40 minutes for the actual repair) seems like a lot. I'm going to estimate that the cost of a hot water heater thermocouple at around $20. The rest was labor. Seems like a lot for that amount of work especially considering there was even a $49 off the cost web offer. For the sake of a full disclosure ...the technician did fix the problem with the 2 year old hot water heater not lighting. He also offered me the chance to call someone else ...which by 3:30 in the afternoon didn't seem practical since we wanted to take hot showers before the next day. All that said I'd find someone else next time. They are too expensive. read more

In an effort to save someone else time, be advised that this company charges for estimates. Even though I had already had camera work done on my pipes and know the problem, they still wanted $49 for an estimate on repairing it. That's enough to make me call someone else. read more

I wish I had read the other reviews before using this company. Be warned! I did a search specific to Occidental plumbing. They came up as an "Occidental plumber." They came out, gave my husband an estimate and a date was set up. They no showed. I was ready to hire someone else, but John was very apologetic and we had a deadline on the work we needed done. The workman came and announced that it would be $200 extra because we "live out in the middle of nowhere." If it weren't for the fact that we needed this work done fast, I would have sent them packing. So if Bragg's plumbing and heating comes up as a local plumber, be warned--they aren't. And they won't let you know until the last minute that you are going to pay extra because they aren't local. And this doesn't speak well of their business practices, in general. We won't be using them again. The work itself was well done, so I gave them 2 instead of one stars. But the quote process was not upfront, and if they are going to list themselves as local to get more business, they shouldn't be charging more for not being local! read more

Avoid this company! They will charge you 3 times the reputable guys. I had them replace a part for my heater and they were only at my house for 1 hour and charged $500 for parts and labor. I got a second opinion and he said I was ripped off and that it should have cost $150. The installer was very nasty when I tried to reason with him about his inflated price. The owner was not reasonable and I believe that if you have a heater malfunction in the winter you will be taken advantage of by these rip-off artists. read more

This is my personal experience and opinion. I received a quote from Todd to repair a 2" pvc water pipe at my residence, not on the telephone, which required cutting of the pipe on either side of the pin hole leak & replace that piece. His quote was $1465:00.. OUTRAGOUS,! I received 9 other quotes from local plumbers ranging from $250:00 to $320.00. They're in the business of RIPPING PEOPLE OFF!! I spoke with John, as it recommends on the website, to have my heater, dryer vent, and air ducts cleaned. His price was substantially higher than other companies I compared. I asked him why he was more than twice the price. I had expected him to answer with there being a difference in equipment or chemicals. Boy, was I wrong, he immediately got on the defensive and told me I should ask the other companies why they were so cheap. I should have read his yelps before contacting Bragg P&H, it appears price is a touchy subject. I am just glad I found out ahead of time so I did't give him the opportunity to stick it to me. Bragg Heating and Air repaired my 17 year old Bryant Forced Air furnace. I got a second opinion and apparently that repair was in line. HOWEVER I was lied to about the need for repairs to the air ducts!!! The tech said their were 4 good sized holes in the air ducts and that I was losing heat and that the amount of flow out of the floor vents were to mild. LIAR! I had another Heating and Air person come to see if they could repair the ducts for less, maybe PATCH them instead of replacing at high costs. I am an 80 year old retired person who has not enough on which to survive. And although the repair was proper, trying to SCAM me about the ducts is UNCONSCIONABLE and SHOCKING and CRUEL. read more

Chris did an amazing job fixing someone else's badly done plumbing which could easily have done some considerable water damage had it not been replaced. Our 9 year old Toto toilet had seen better days and was leaking. I couldn't turn it off because the spigot was jammed between the tank and the wall. Chris fixed and replaced the spigot in a matter of minutes. Rather than get all the new parts needed to fix it I decided to purchase a new Kohler toilet. Chris picked out the perfect one for the size of the room. He was a pleasure to work with, too. It's nice to have something done right. I highly recommend this company. read more

These guys really tried to rip me off! I had them come look at my water heater because the pilot light went out and it would not ignite again. The guy did not even bother taking the assembly out, yet he determined I needed a $600 pilot assembly or a new water heater. If you have seen Dateline on NBC with Chris Hanson, this was a classic case of trying to rip someone off. I had enough sense to get a second opinion. The next guy took out the assembly, determined it was a burnt wire and fixed it, without needing parts, in about 20 minutes! Unreal! Watch these guys, they are not trustworthy. Called for an emergency sewer lateral line repair. The broken pipe was exposed, but the person answering the phone told me there would be a charge of $69 just to look at it. I called four other contractors (offering the same service) and none charged for a quote. Sorry Bragg, you lost a customer on that one. read more

I am not sure you can enjoy a required plumbing repair, but I suspect this is about as good as it can get. A leak developed under my kitchen sink and it turned out to be the garbage disposal that had worked loose over time. Called Bragg, they responded with a technician, the same afternoon. Tracy showed up at the time specified, and the dispatch office kept me informed along the way. Job turned out to not be an easy 1,2,3 type but a battle all the way. Tracy got it done, left the under cabinet area cleaner than when he arrived. These guys are Diamond Certified for a reason! I would use them again. read more

Service techs Chance and Tracy did an amazing job putting all new heating ducts in the attic. They kept me posted on what was going on in a very professional way. They were very accommodating and meticulous. A number of weeks later I hired them again to fix a bathroom drain leak. Once again they did an outstanding job to perfection. We have a small, old building and we specialize in caring for people with Alzheimer's and other dementias. On Monday we discovered that a drain pipe had broken and residue from a garbage disposal had drained under the building. The soil had absorbed it, creating a noxious odor and possible health issue. Todd Snider with Bragg Plumbing arrived in response to my call. He said that the area would have to be cleaned up before he could do the repairs to the drain pipe. We had the area professionally cleaned and sanitized. Late on Tuesday Todd gave me a bid of $8265 to fix the pipe - there were two holes. I knew that it would not take more than a day to fix the problem and I asked to be billed for time and materials. He said this was illegal in California, but he agreed to lower the proposal to $7500. The job ended up taking two men five hours to complete. Allowing for $500 in materials, the fee equated to $700 per hour for labor!! What a rip off. read more

We discovered we needed new furnace vents - didn't realize they were the original vents from when the house was built in '63. It was easy to get an appt - not weeks out - and the vents were replaced by Chance who spent all day under the house installing them. I would definitely recommend this company. They are small, local, most knowledgeable, and very professional. It's nice to have the heat coming in to the house now instead of under the house! read more

The only good thing I can say about this company is they showed up for the estimate. First the service mng. who did the estimate was not a real people person I Felt . He checked our furnace which had already been checked from PG&E . PG&E is being a little more cautious these days by telling us we had a slit gas leak at the control value and they tapped it off and removed the value. ok so we got a few estimates to reinstall the value, you should always do that and we did. When the Braggs guy checked our furnace for his estimate he began telling us all the things that he felt it needed, which none of our other estimate did. Tells us because the furnace was older it should really be replaced. Then came the cost to replace the valve , o and you won't be able to ask ahead of the appointment what they charge hourly or ruffly and now I see why because the have a service charge just to come out so I was $49.00 out for him to tell me a cost which was 3 times higher than our other estimate plus he wanted to charge me double for his service call just to check the furnace which when I Made the appointment was told it would be the $49.00. I told him that and he agreed to the $ 49.00. This company is wanting to soak you for all they can get as others have found in these yelp reviews. My suggestion get other estimates from repeatable companies before you pay more that you should. read more
