Typo need a cute tavern sign for this adorable street, and here it is.
    Kelly H.

A cute restaurant on a cute historic street! From the tavern sign to the clean interior, you go in liking this place already. The staff was limited on the weekday we came, but friendly. The tap list included Guinness, Harp, and Smithwicks, and a couple local beers among the dozen, but also a moderate list of cocktails and wines. Picking from the dishes is difficult because even on the lunch menu, there are so many yummy offerings. Narrowing it down with with the signature symbols, the short rib au jus on a crusty, buttery baguette was delightful. Sampling the corned beef on pretzel, it could be difficult to decide even on multiple trips. We went all out starting with both a plate of crab cakes and stuffed clam cakes, and found the crab the meatier of the two, but both were comforting. For whatever reason Yelpers have listed Brazen Hen as not being a good place for kids, but we still took a chance. Despite the clean, dark but glossy interior, our kid still got a coloring sheet placemat and brand new crayolas. The kids menu seemed to be on theme, and I still can't believe my kid picked shepherd's pie over the usual chicken tenders and fries. Our server was friendly to everyone at our table, all ages.

What a find! We were in Westerly on a snowy day. Saw this place, pulled into a parking spot on the street and wandered in to a warm, inviting, cozy, tavern. The fireplace was an added treat. The meals were delicious. Yes, that cod reuben was very delicious. Large sandwich, many (too many!) fries, and drinks. Hamburger was also terrific. There is nothing we didn't like here. Even the restrooms are really nice! The bar was fairly busy for a random Saturday afternoon. When in the area again I would not hesitate to return there. The menu seemed quite diverse, also. I'm sure everyone would find something they would enjoy.

In the culinary world, the word WOW implies exceptional ambiance, food, and service. The Brazen Hen--now one of my new favorite restaurants--gets that rating on all counts. Bonus points for serving Bangers and Mash, a rarity in the Ocean State. Oh, and did I mention the excellent Kimchi? No? Well, their Kimchi was surprisingly tasty. On a scale of one to five, The Brazen Hen gets a ten.

We were looking for some friendly and simple and came across this wonderful Irish pub. Had a great meal, food was delicious. Service was a tad slow but that was to be expected at dinner time. Whiskey sauce on my streak was scrumptious!

First time eating dinner here...nice atmosphere, mostly Irish cuisine menu. My husband had the meatloaf dinner which was good but a little on the high priced side for meatloaf. I had a Caesar salad with chicken that came out not cooked very well so I had to send it back. He started with the guineas French onion soup & I had the pretzels with beer cheese & spicy mustard which was excellent. Pretzels were great too. Service was average. Menu a little on the pricier side for what you get.

Best meatloaf in the world. Words I will swear by til the death. We stumbled upon this local Irish pub restaurant last July and knew we had to stop again when we had work in RI. The meatloaf is a blend of veal, corned beef, and pork. It's tender, and juicy, but also slightly dense in the best possible way. The brown onion gravy is savory. Mashed potatoes are homemade and richly flavored, maybe a hint of sour cream and lots of butter. The julienned carrots and squash accompany the french style green beans perfectly. Do yourself a favor and order extra squash and carrots, they are absolutely delicious.

The menu offers everything from soups and salads to scallop meals and sandwiches. Extremely well priced. There are about a dozen tables and a few high tops as well as a bar for seating. Parking is across the street. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. I wish they had brewed iced tea, but they said it only comes from the fountain. Ick! Ordered a bowl of clam chowder soup. Very creamy and good flavor. The clams seem to be gritty. Probably could use a good rinse before they are cooked. But overall, the flavor and consistency our clams and potatoes with each bite was nice. Ordered the cod sandwich with onion rings. The cod sandwich is quite large. Served on a brioche bun with tomatoes and lettuce and a lemon wedge It was served piping hot. The fish, although large and presentation was nice, it lacked flavor. The batter was not completely cooked toward the meat of the fish. You get your choice of side and we had onion rings. They were standard side, but cooked to perfection. Overall, I was pleased with this restaurant. I would give the ambience a five out of five, the weight staff service was five out of five and the food would be a solid four. I would definitely come back to this restaurant.

The staff members are always welcoming and the aura of the visitors -since we became a nation seem ever-present. Bravo DPI... See you soon. On a visit to Mystic, I could not wait to find a restaurant that served more seafood than I could easily settle on. Sitting in the Mystic Marriott lobby, yelp pointed us to the Captain Daniel Packer Inne. What a find. Although the building was restored in 1979, it's origin dates to 1756. Everything seems to have been preserved -including the aura. As you would expect with a building older than the signing of the Declaration of Independence, it is small in size but large in hospitality. Without reservations, we did not stand much of a chance in the upstairs dinning area, but a flight of stairs down to the pub in the cellar... and we were seated in 20 minutes. For appetizers, we had the phyllo dough lobster lollipops and an order of artichoke hearts that were resting in a light lobster sauce (the artichoke that is) that invited us to soak up what was left with the delicious homemade bread we were served. For our main course we had the halibut steak that was sitting on top of freshly mashed potatoes with a smattering of fresh corn kernels. The customer service attendants were mindful of their tables and visited at opportune times. -Not when you start to take a bite and never did we wonder where they might have gone off to. Parking was a bit of a challenge but by far worth the hunt. If you are looking for a very friendly restaurant with a historical beginning and great food... Look no further. DPI is a definite re-visit for us.

The building itself is gorgeous with thick beams and great finishes. It's a beautiful place even if it is a little tight. With that said, we had a party of 10 and had reservations in advance. Parking is always tricky, but we got a good spot in the lot and were very happy. The wait for the table was maybe 10 minutes which was not too bad. The waitress was very good and she took care of our water, drinks, and bread right away. The place was busy but we really were pleased with the service! I ordered the fish and chips. Most of the table ordered a steak, veggie, and mashed potatoes. Truffle fries was the appetizer that landed on my end of the table. They were not my favorite. Those who had the steak seemed happy with the meal. Both of us who had the fish and chips were not happy with the meal. We had fish and chips at Steak Loft the night before- and they did not compare. They were perfect. The order I had at Daniel Packard were heavy and filling but I was missing the light tempura batter, the crunch and soft fresh fish, and the great tartar sauce that is the standard for fish and chips! I didn't take my leftovers which is not the norm for me. I'll swing by in the winter for a pint in front of the fire no doubt, but I think another dinner is not in my future.
