I love the Caraway Rye. They had a caraway onion rye so I got that instead this time. It has a bit more of a bold flavor because of the onions and I absolutely love this kind, especially for a grilled cheese sandwich. This type of bread is more made to be grilled. I think it taste much better crispy instead of soft, but I also make sandwiches with it and it's also still very good as cold sandwiches. I'm not a sauce type person so I like breads that have some kind of flavor to it to make up for not putting sauce on sandwiches. The bread here is the type of bread that you're gonna want to get if you're not a sauce person they have pumpernickel on Saturdays. They do not have it on the weekdays. It's very hard to pick the kind of bread or pastry or any kind of bakery here everything is just so so good. You just wanna try everything. I wish they would do half breads so that I could pick two because a big one is sometimes just too big. read more

When you walk into this little shop you can see everything on display which is so comforting. The sourdough is thick and near the top of some of the different varieties that I've had! While this is one that I will get repeatedly I did not like the veggie version that was a specialty, it just had too much going on. The blueberry scone was fun to try but I will not be getting it again. Seating is minimal and outdoors so plan to take your goods to go. I am partial to Breadsmith, having lived in Milwaukee and spent time constantly searching for bread in the Parisian manner until I found Breadsmith. In France, good bread is vital to any decent meal. After moving to Minneapolis a couple of weeks ago, I was surprised to see a Breadsmith in Edina. Yet, it seems Edina has everything except a lake, diversity and cheap prices. A line was moving fast, and I had my order ready in my head. Unfortunately, the staff at the Breadsmith in Edina did not speak English well, surprising for Edina. It was comforting, more like my hood near Lake Street, but sadly my order was screwed up, and when I arrived home 35 minutes later, several items were missing. Begrudgingly, I drove back to Edina and picked up my missing items. It took an extra hour at least. I have now been to all of them. I was in the neighborhood looking for something else and I look up and there it is. I kind of came in for the free soft ccc. It sure was soft and very good. I bought my favorite, honey white bread. This goes great with PB&J. As I was leaving some girls were coming out of the attached store and were wondering if they should go in. As soon as you walk inside you know it's going to be delicious ~ the aroma of fresh baked bread and treats just engulfs you! What makes me a little mad is the fact that I've lived in the area for 33 years and have never really heard of this place let alone gone inside. Seriously, I challenge you to simply pay this quaint business a visit because you certainly won't leave empty handed (even if you wanted too, the deliciousness is that amazing!). My husband and I chose two items to sample. First, Maple Pecan Scone (mini size). TO DIE FOR. I have yet to find a scone relatable to what I love from my second home of Wales and this comes pretty darn close. So yummy!! It's seasonal so I'd encourage getting there soon to try before they remove from the menu. Second we tried a Caramel Roll (mini). This too was TO DIE FOR. I appreciated that it wasn't too sugary, didn't make my teeth rattle from the sweetness. Instead, it was a perfect balance of sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, maple and whatever else used. Seriously so good. The price point seemed to be relatively fair as well. I think they're more competitive with their pricing than Great Harvest, with much better quality as well. Breadsmith is a quaint little bakery tucked in next to a Starbucks and a Lunds & Byerlys off of France Ave. my brother & I stopped in at about 7:30 on a Friday (they close at 8) and the staff was attentive right when we walked in the room. Both of us were offered a sample of their banana bread (very good) and their pumpkin spice scone (also very good). Even though they were close to closing, they still had many options available to us that we could purchase. As my brother was making his decision I looked around the space and they also had croutons out as a free sample, and I grabbed one of those to take home. My brother decided on a sour dough loaf that cost him around $5.50. They will also slice the bread for you which is neat. I asked if $5.50 was a fair price and my brother said so. The place seemed very nice, had that classic "bakery/bready" smell to it and seems like a nice option if you're looking for something a little higher quality. The samples help too! read more

Staff is superb, professional and friendly. Always offering a taste of freshly made batch. And yup, it works. Always buy more than my plan. The variety is amazing sweet and savory bread cookies and more. Yes, higher price than run of the mill bread but this is artisan very much natural ingredients and flavors that are unique. So of course it is worth it. Parking is easy for the plaza and location is a great one in the 50th street neighborhood. I get a piece of bread every chance I get. I decided to splurge because today is a BIG day at work. Huge disappointment. For $1 I bought a single mini muffin(currently dieting low carb). After removing the paper, this is exactly how much muffin I got to enjoy. I was super excited to be BAD. Breadsmith should know how to make muffins so that half the batter doesn't stick to the liner. $1 for one bite is robbery unless it's the most unbelievable bite ever, which it definitely was not. Breadsmith is our go to for bread and most bakery products. We have pretty much switched to whole wheat products and our usual weekly purchase is a loaf of their 100 percent whole wheat bread. We also recommend their whole wheat Lovash (a type of cracker like flatbread) that goes really well as a snack and their crostini (unfortunately not whole wheat). Their muffins are good and brownies are outstanding. The service area can get a bit crowded and parking can be an issue at times at the Edina store. I wish they would add croissants but probably this is too much to ask. Anyway I highly recommend. read more

I love this place! As soon as you walk in to the shop the aroma is to die for. I wish they had a candle on just how good it smells. My mom and I are big time fans of the Cranberry Blueberry Rolls which they only make on the weekends. When I stop by to get a roll for myself I always end up leaving with more to share with my family because they also love this place. Every time I go to Breadsmith especially this location the employees are so sweet and welcoming. I recommend anything from here from the bread, to the muffins, to the brownies and the strawberry jam. I love stopping in here, especially on a Saturday morning when we really should be eating breakfast at home but I haven't been grocery shopping in two weeks because we have a baby and work and tired and whyyyyyyy. Anyway. I'm usually here for pastries and treats, as opposed to actual bread. But their muffins are excellent - I favor the banana chocolate chip. The scones are also delicious (and usually glazed) but can be a touch on the dry side. Not to be consumed without a beverage on hand. Cinnamon rolls? Perfection. The service isn't great here - they expect you know what you want as soon as you walk in the door, which (because of the layout) is about two seconds after arrival and before you can even see what they have that day. I wandered in here for some fresh sourdough to make some sure-to-be-amazing grilled pot roast and provolone sandwiches later that evening and walked out with not only that but a loaf of banana bread and two cinnamon rolls for around $19 and some change. I love that they'll slice any loaf if you ask - it's super helpful because I am terrible with a bread knife - it's why I only have 8 fingers! (just kidding, knock on wood) Not only was everything SUPER delicious but service was prompt and friendly and despite the banana bread being a little pricey around $8 I feel like everything else was a pretty good deal. When I buy a scone from this place and leave it in my kitchen I find myself going back throughout the day to nibble at it because it's so addictive! I can't eat it all at once because it's a whopping 600 calories (luckily they post the calories so you know)! I basically only come to Breadsmith to get scones, haven't tried the bread yet. My favorite scone is the chocolate coconut scone and they also have some seasonal specials throughout the year. Get their punchcard and once you visit 10x and spend at least $5 each visit, you get something free. Also they offer you samples, do not pass up! Two gripes: They have no handicap access so for this mom with a stroller it can be a real struggle to get in the door. Sheesh! This place went from amazing to wtf relatively quick! We used to love going here, all the bread was SOOOO soft!! That has SERIOUSLY changed!! The last 3 times I've bought bread here it has been really tough, I have to fight to cut through the crust. It's so tough the crust is painful to eat, it cuts the inside of your mouth up of toasted or warmed at all and it's like chewing on rubber if it's cold. Can't win. The last time I was in I asked for a brioche style bun and they said the closest they has was a yogurt roll but they failed to mention it's NOTHING like a soft, fluffy, delicate brioche bun as it's tough, dry, and hard as a rock!! I bought two for sandwiches and they were terrible. I had to eat the contents of my sandwich without the rock hard bun. The bread is again tough and dry. It used to be SO SOFT and perfect!! Idk what you did to make the baker mad or leave but you better find a better one or make amends QUICK!! I'm one more bs loaf of bread away from being and EX customer!!! read more

Handmade daily and consistency every time you purchase. This place is my go-to! I always be sure to pick up a load or two for guests or when we head out of town. It's so delicious and there is plenty of variety. They change up their scones and a loaf or two of bread seasonally to keep things interesting. My favorite is in the fall when they have their pecan and maple scones. Yummmm! Mouth is salivating already. The place itself is small and there is sometimes a line out the door which looks daunting. They are always generous about handing out samples too if you're not sure what you want. It's a small bakery so during the holidays or peak seasons you may even see a line forming outside to place or pick up your order. The great thing is that you can call ahead if you want to reserve anything. They'll have your items set aside for you. For frequent shoppers there are also "punch" cards. I don't go here often enough, but this review is more about the service than the bread. My company has a French club and they scheduled a tour of the bakery after work one day. The owner met us and gave us a tour of the back, told us about the equipment (all imported from France), then had some dough ready for us to roll out and shape. We made a few baguettes each then he put them in the oven to bake, talked to us some more, answered all of our questions, then sat at Starbucks with us while we waited for the bread to cook. During the whole process they provided samples for us to try of their muffins and other breads. When the bread was done, we left with the bread we made, plus goodie bags, and they ended up with at least a few more regular customers. read more

everything here is DAIRY-FREE!!! (kosher) If you can't eat dairy, you'll understand my excitement at finding an entire bakery of things I am able to eat. Let me highlight some of the best: On Saturdays, they have pecan caramel rolls. They taste buttery, a flavor I haven't been able to experience in 12 years! Giant ones and small ones, gooey and flavorful. It's a rare week I don't buy one. Their frosted cinnamon rolls are delicious. Very sweet icing, and the perfect amount of cinnamon and sweetness throughout. Oftentimes I mean to just eat half and save the other half for later, but it's difficult to stop! Chocolate babka...mmmm...though the caramel and cinnamon rolls overshadow the babka, i think. Pumpkin bread is a winner, too. They give out samples and plenty of smiles, and they never make me feel like a sow for walking out of there with an armful of baked goodness. Breadsmith is carb heaven. You need bread, rolls, muffins, brownies, pastries, scones, or babka? Come here, you'll find what you're looking for. What I love most about Breadsmith is that they offer "regular sized" and "small sized" options for most of their products. I put this in quotes because the "regular sized" brownie is easily equivalent to 4 brownies. No cookies here, though. You'll have to get your cookie monster cravings fixed elsewhere. Scones were good, but dry (possibly due to not containing any milk?) and didn't have the right crumble that a proper scone should. read more

My first trip here was specific for buns I was in need of for dinner with my parents but I quickly realized they span not just a large assortment of breads but cookies, a variety of pastries and quite possibly the largest pretzels I've ever laid my eyes upon.
