I've long wanted to try this place next to Trader Joe's because it was always crowded. As soon as I walked in, I knew why: we were greeted warmly, and they served alcohol! There were nice California twists to familiar breakfast items. I was particularly pleased with the potatoes upgrade, which included brussels sprouts. The brussels sprouts were nicely cooked and seasoned. I also ordered the mushroom 'n' pesto benedict. I was slightly disappointed that the English muffin seemed a little cold and soggy, as if it had not been toasted. Still, I was very hungry and it hit the spot. It was busy on a Monday morning, and the hard floors and walls had nothing to absorb the noise. On a weekend it would be even busier, and not the ideal place to take someone if you want quiet conversation. Yesterday, I left this restaurant minutes after arrival because of inhospitable treatment by a server/bartender which was condoned by a manager on duty. The server, a young man who appeared to be in his early 20s, aggressively addressed me as "Man" and asked me if I wanted "something." I ordered a drink. Next, he asked, "You want food, Man?" I responded that I do not answer to "Man"; but to either "Mister" or "Sir"; I'm 67 years old and probably old enough to be your grandfather." The server bowed his chest, flexed his tatted forearms, and screamed at me; charging towards the bar as if he wanted to fight me. He demanded that I speak to him "with respect." He was demanding from me what he refused to extend to me as a patron. Another young man purporting to be the general manager was nearby, and we went outside the restaurant to speak privately. I provided him with details of the incident. In response, he dismissed the server's actions as informality to be expected because of his age. However, he did not address the server's aggressive and provocative movements towards me, which he personally observed. The manager next asked if I wanted to be seated outside, in effect refusing to address nor apply corrective action. I refused and told him that any business condoning actions and outrageous conduct like the server's did not deserve my patronage. In summary, this restaurant's apparent reliance on a college-aged workforce and refusal to influence their presentation to the public does not merit consideration for anyone's dining experience. Especially one that willfully condones and apparently encourages their staff to physically threaten their customers. read more

SOOOO GOOD!!! I have seen this place so many times and finally gave it a shot this weekend. It did not disappoint. My fav new bfast spot nearby by FAR!! The breakfast sandwich was soooooooo good and had a really unique flavor that I loved. The strawberry cheesecake pancakes were mind blowing and the potato's were perfection!! The breakfast burrito was also amazing. So flavourful and not to mention HUGE! My friend said that it was his new fav breakfast burrito by far. Over all this is my new spot for weekend brunch! I feel like you cannot go wrong with your choice of food at breakfast republic. I am finally reviewing this place because you might notice extremely long waits and that's because it is worth it. The price is definitely worth the quality but can we take a minute to admire all of their options. I recommend for a Sunday. Going through each plate, you can pick any pancake or French toast, I promise you will be happy. They have everything from banana split, lemon ricotta, strawberry shortcake, I always choose one so I have breakfast and a breakfast dessert. As for the breakfast itself, you can choose your choices for bread, how you like your eggs, and mix and match between other components. Not pictured but a must order is the Cafe de oro translated to coffee of gold and yes it tastes like gold. I highly recommend ordering said coffee with any dish you end up getting. Best of lucking choosing it is so hard because everything is so delicious. Now for ambiance, it a cute breakfast place by the UC Irvine campus and smack down the middle between a Trader Joe's and a Pete's coffee. My roommates and I walked in on Saturday at noon and waited around 20 minutes. Service was alright, not the most welcoming but fine. There were plenty of seats inside and outside. The decor was cute and on trend with the chicken theme. Parking is shared and free! We ordered a bottle of mimosa with orange juice, lychee syrup, and guava syrup to share. For our mains, we ordered the shrimp and grits ($18), american ($13.5), and turkey meatloaf hash ($14.5). The mimosas were good, however, I didn't like how we had to stir in the lychee and guava syrups with a wooden stick. I stirred too fast, and the bubbles overfilled my glass. The shrimp and grits were too watery, like soup, and the grits were undercooked with a grainy feel and hard center. The shrimps, corn, and their hot sauce were delicious though. The american breakfast platter was nice and simple, nothing spectacular. The turkey meatloaf hash was yummy, and pesto was a great touch. All the eggs were cooked to our liking, over-easy and perfectly runny. Overall, this was a pretty average breakfast spot. Prices were reasonable, and most dishes were good. Not worth any wait, and avoid the grits. I'd still go again when it's not busy for some good old fashioned breakfast. read more

Very good! Super busy on a Sunday morning, but our party of 2 was fortunately seated immediately. Long lines formed afterwards, I'd recommend trying to come before 10am if you can. The pancake flight was huge, and the breakfast Mac and cheese with Jurassic pork was one of the best brunch novelty dishes I've had. The click madam eggs Benedict was perfectly cooked, and I loved the Brussels sprouts on the side. The hollandaise sauce wasn't too lemony and the English muffins were soft and delicious. My vanilla latte was SO good, and it's also next door to a Peet's coffee if you want to get coffee to go afterwards for a slightly cheaper price. The savory, rosemary flavor makes these potatoes a must. - We came early this morning so the wait was not bad. There was already a good line flowing upon our arrival. The wait is usually longer. There is little doubt that this location benefits greatly from it's proximity to the University of California at Irvine campus. This was 9am. The service was excellent with Gloria F. very attentive and helpful. The food was very disappointing. The ambiance was very loud, impossible to hear my wife across the very small table. The temperature outside was 58 degrees and the doors were open with no heat so I'm guessing 60 degrees inside. We had to order and eat very fast because of the temperature...and the noise. Very uncomfortable and fast breakfast. Eggs Benedict were cold. Portuguese sausage was so tough we could not cut with a knife. My scramble was cold and not very good. Potatoes cover half the plate on either meal and were cold and tasteless. Buttermilk pancakes were cold and syrup was lukewarm. If you just want breakfast and don't care about the noise, cold, or quality of food, then this is your place...they will give it to you with great and friendly service. If you're a university student and have to walk to eat breakfast then this is your place because there is nothing better within walking distance and you might not care about the food quality. Spending $54 plus tip for breakfast for two used to be a crime anyway. Now it seems more normalized. There are many better places. read more

Went here with coworkers and had a great experience here. We had a party of 13 and they were able to accommodate us quickly. The service was great. Our server Sunshine did an amazing job giving excellent recommendations. I ordered the chicken chicken fennel sausage omelette and upgraded my bread to the lemon coconut pancakes. The omelette was pretty good, potatoes were decent. The real prize were the pancakes! They were fluffy and delicious. I also ordered the Cafe de Olla which was also very tasty. First time trying this place with my friend and sister for brunch yesterday, we went here since I'm a vegetarian and my friend doesn't doest pork or beef. The ambience was nice and packed. I can see why folks come here for their drinks, which we didn't have but looked good. I had a vegan burrito, and my friend was going to order a veggie omlet but our server recommended getting a vegan omelet minus the asparagus. my vegan burrito had fake meat which is fine as I used to be a vegan. I didn't taste the cashew cream sauce at all, it was dry and the vegan cheese they used tasted like plastic. mind you I have tried many vegan spots and cheese over the three years and this vegan burrito was one of the worst. which also had some hard pieces of the fake meat. it came with rice and beans, which the beans were just average the rice was hard like leftovers from the previous day, can't believe they served it. I had asked the server what the ham like pieces were why he cane by to checek on us snd he said I can take it back and ask them but it should be vegetarian. I said I'm just curious what it is i no its not pork he said it could be tomato..umno no wasn't, it was the fake meat (which I had no problem with mind you just curious). my friend later asked him if her omelet had pork or beef since it looked like ground meat and his response was "instead of asking me again you should read what the menu had" super rude..as she asked nicely. he then went on saying his gf was a vegetarian (so he should be understanding) and that they make all vegetarian and vegan dishes with the correct ingredients, mind you he recommended that she get a vegan omelet instead of a vegetarian one. we did not like his attitude as if we're were constantly asking him things when only twice. would never come back to this place due to the service and the food.i should of left him no tip but I did.
