As soon as my friends saw there was a spot that did alcoholic shave ice they wanted to try it. The original plan was to go to Down the Hatch and Breakwall Suave Ice but there was a HUGE line for Down the Hatch. This almost completely deterred us from both, but after peering downstairs we realized Breakwall barely had a line and we went down the second set of stairs to snag a spot in line for shave ice. Another downside of the location that we learned really quickly is that they're right next to the bathroom, so the foot traffic cuts through while you're in line and waiting on your shave ice. Definitely don't zone out or take too many pictures, you're going to be in the way. Back to the food though, they have regular shave ice, alcoholic adult shave ice, açaí bowls, smoothies and shakes, cold brew and even dole whip and giant pretzels. While they don't have as many flavors to choose from as other places, the ones they have a tasty and they give a great amount of syrup so you don't have plain ice spots. My friends ordered the strawberry guava daiquiri and we ordered the Mojito float and both were good. I thought the addition is soft serve in the bottom of ours elevated it and you definitely could tell they were cocktail flavors and not just regular shave ice. If I came back I would take advantage of Happy Hour from 2-5 where the adult shave ice is just $6.

Right beside our fav spot down the hatch.You get a discount too if you dine there. We went there during the happy hour and got a shave ice for 6$. It was absolutely delicious.The coconut icecream was divine. Must try if you are in the lahaina area.

Breakwall shave ice has lots of choices to choose from the menu. The ice was well shaved and very light. We tried Mango Margarita adult shave ice offered here, pineapple dole whip & rainbow shave ice which was good. Even though the line was long, the wait didn't disappoint us. Kudos to the staff, they are efficient and friendly! If you're in the area check this place out. You'll love it.

The peanut buttah looks good, but would prefer more fruit on it. Maybe I could get the Brazilino and add some PB. I ordered a Brazilino with added PB, blueberries and pineapple too. The pineapples are canned and not so good. The PB is a big clump and not so good. The pineapple and vanilla dole whip was good for the boys. The açaí bowl is blah.

My friends and I had our first round of shaved ice here and it was a great introduction! The young guy behind the counter was kind and knowledgeable--he answered our questions and made helpful suggestions on flavors and toppings. The spot was in the center of a plaza of other restaurants and shops--had a busy feel, but it was nice. The shop itself wasn't busy that night, so we were served pretty fast. My wife had a mix of Guava-Strawberry, Piña Colada and Coconut with a "Creamy Snowcap." I had a mix of Guava-Strawberry, Mango, and Wild Cherry. It was refreshing and delicious--a little icier than what we would have in the coming days. But still good!!

Since I dined at Down The Hatch, I decided to get my 15% discount for some shaved ice at Breakwall. I ordered a small Rainbow shaved ice ($6) with Snow Cap (+50cents). There aren't too many flavor options and the unique ones cost an extra dollar because they're natural, so passed on that. The shaved ice itself was good and flavors were sweet. This was a refreshing treat after your meal though. I'd highly recommend adding the snow cap because they use a thick condensed milk drizzle over it that was so tasty.

Side Note: I would have given this place a 5 star rating had it not been for the guy who took 35 minutes to make a handful of shave ice. There were only two people in front of me but it took over half and hour and they only had 2 and 2 orders. Then, he made mine with the incorrect flavors and remade it incorrectly again. I was so over the situation I ate my shave ice with the incorrect flavors. They need a second person to help if the person working is new and or that slow. The other people around me were like, what is going on?! Some people left the line it was ridiculous. Aside from all of that the shave ice itself was pretty good. Flavors were better than Ululani's. I only mention that place because everyone seems to compare everything to Ululani's. Their Watermelon flavor was the best watermelon flavor I have ever had. It's not pictured in my review because I forgot to take a photo. Seating: there is no seating inside but there are benches around the place to sit and eat your shave ice. If you eat at Down the Hatch there's a small discount but we didn't know as we had Shave Ice before lunch because why not lol.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE!! Shave ice was great, the location was even better. Can't go wrong with lilikoi, mango, and tiger's blood. Put condensed milk on top for a mind blowing experience.

The adult shaved ice was fun to try. We got a strawberry guava daiquiri and a mudslide shaved ice. All the flavors of the strawberry guava were from real fruit juice and fruit purees. The mudslide had everything in a traditional mudslide plus a generous portion ice cream. The mudslide was rich and chocolately. The ice itself was pretty standard flaked shaved ice for those who care. Not amazing, but not bad. FYI, theres not enough booze for you to get drunk off the shaved ice, but you might get a little buzz. Guys working the stand were great with no fuss.

I couldn't wait to try the Dole Whip. This place gave me the option to mix it with vanilla ice cream. Yes please! It's basically soft serve pineapple ice. The large was huge and I ate every drop. I finished it before my meal came. Sometimes, I like to eat dessert first. Now, I can check Dole Whip off my bucket list and I didn't have to go to Disney.

I read a review that said the place by the hyatt is the best I think its luaini, but I compared them and breakwall is much better. The ice consistency and juice taste better. read more

I didn't know adult shaved ice existed until I was recommended to Breakwall! It was hard for me to choose which one to try with having options like mojito, Pina colada, and mango margarita among others. I settled with mojito float (which came with a scoop of ice cream), and it was delicious! Luckily I stopped by here during happy hour. The price was normally $9-$10 and I ended up paying $6. Hopefully I get a chance to stop by again :) read more

I really struggled with how to rate Breakwall. Not that it really matters but I don't write reviews very often but I really felt that there were a couple things that needed to be addressed. First, the good. All the flavors we had were really good. We are a family of 7 so between all of us, we tried a lot and we liked Breakwall's flavors more than the other places we tried in Lahaina. I also liked their Macadamia Nut ice cream more than the other places we tried. However, neither of these factors were enough to offset the negatives to point that I would choose to go back. Now, the negatives. We went here for the first time a few days ago. There were 3 people in front of us in line and it took 20 minutes to get to order. To be fair, two of the three people ahead of us ordered two shave ice for them and another person so that was 20 minutes for 5 shave ice. Then, we ordered 6 for our family and it took another 20 minutes. So, 40 minutes total to get shave ice. We saw Ululani's go through at least 15 people in less time than that. We went back the next day hoping craving the shave ice but hoping that the line would be a little shorter. Again, 4 people in line and it took 30 minutes to get to us. So, just be prepared to wait if there is any sort of line. The second issue is that they melt really fast. Like, REALLY fast. I get it, it's hot out but why did Ululani's, for example, not melt as fast and not cause such a huge mess? The first time we went, I watched someone order a small and it melted to half the size of what it started at by the time they began eating it. It was a huge mess and dripped everywhere. I felt bad for them. Ours melted too but not quite that fast. We went back then next day and this time, the same thing happened to mine. Half of it dripped all over the floor by the time I could grab a straw, open it and start drinking. Super disappointing. Just know what you are getting into if you do go. Be prepared to wait if there is a line and eat fast. read more

This place is absolutely incredible! If you come to Maui you need to come here! Dylan and Maya were so nice to us during our honeymoon. They really went the extra mile to make us feel special and we really appreciated it. The shaved ice is the best on the island and you'll be missing out if you don't come here! read more

I went here with my friend on Saturday July 29th and when I say this was the absolute worst shaved Ice I've ever had i mean that whole heartedly. This was not true HAWAIIAN SHAVED ICE it was COLONIZED shaved ice. 1. The woman that made our shaved ice only gave the outer layer flavor while the inside was strictly just plain ice with no flavor and for the price you should be able to get what you pay for . Spending 12 dollars on 2 Small servings to be utterly disappointed . I was disgusted at best .. GO TO LOCAL BOYS SHAVED ICE ITS THE BEST ON THE ISLAND !!! They were pretty slow and the shave ice was super icy, I had to chip away at it. Also the flavors were pretty bland. At the end of the bowl there wasn't any flavor, I had high expectations because were in Hawaii. I recommend ululani shave ice, it is much better in every aspect and about the same price. There are multiple of them so look it up. read more

The smoothies are good quality but gotta fix that online ordering cause I paid and didn't get what I ordered and my friend ended up buying a new one lol not okay for my 12$ smoothie but I won't give less than 5 stars cause it was a simple mistake that can be fixed and this is a good place. New favorite place for shaved ice in Lahaina. Conveniently located right across the street from the Banyan tree, with a friendly low-key staff and some great expanded menu options (adult shave ice with rum anybody?). We went after a day on the water, and walked right up from the harbor. The other shops are good too, but this one had a much better vibe and menu. read more

It's great that they've stayed open, but unfortunately my family and I felt that our shave ice did not live up to the hype. The flavors weren't very strong and didn't soak all the way through, leaving a plain (unflavored) inner portion of ice. read more

I think the flavors here are great, the strawberry-guava and the mojito were balanced in terms of sweetness and boldness--even more so they didn't have an artificial taste like every other shave ice location. The ice here is much more coarse and hard than what you expect from Hawaii shave ice, and two people in our party had 1"x1" ice cube(s) like you'd see in restaurant soft drinks. If you don't mind that texture then I definitely recommend the mojito flavor, it was really refreshing. You can't go wrong with an acai bowl. Kombucha is okay, slightly acidic and not carbonated enough for me. If it's their own batch then I understand and it is reasonably priced considering kombucha is 100% overpriced on the islands ($5.50/16oz v. $3-$4/16oz. in CA) read more

SO TASTY!!!!! I went to this place 4 years ago, when it was on another street. It was amazing then as it is now!!!!! I had the grape shaved ice last time, perfect size. Recently, I had the adult shaved ice flavor, strawberry daiquiri, which was like a drink and a snack combined. Each bite, was cold and a tasty heaven. Their açaí bowls are big, but a PERFECT breakfast meal, especially if you love fruit. Great staff and atmosphere !!!!! read more

The booze traveler came here for the adult shaved is, and so did my wife and I. We ordered food from their sister restaurant Down the Hatch, so we shared a large, although you can get a small and massive! The large is $13, and well worth it! Plus a large would be fine for one person if that was all you were going to have. They have a lot of drink options, and even create your own, but when in Maui, get the Mai Tai!!!! Light and Dark rum, a coconut creme drizzled over the top of the shaved ice and macadamian nut ice cream at the base. We did not get buzzed off this, so if that's what you want then it's not for you, but if you want to enjoy a delicious drink in a creative way, the line forms behind us! The macadamian ice cream is worth getting to the bottom for, as it has real big macadamian nuts and is scrumptious!!! read more

We have been to a couple other shave ice vendors but this one was one of the best. Not only do they have the traditional flavors of syrup and ice cream, but they had ADULT flavors which included a good amount of rum as in the pina colada... make sure you get the snow cap to top it off. read more

I ordered the Root Beer Float, thinking it was a "real" root beer float. Kyle explained that it was a root beer flavored shave ice. I was about to change my order to another flavor choice when he convinced me to stay with the root beer float with added Roselani vanilla ice cream. I think I paid $9. My husband ordered the "Customer's Favorite", Mango, Passionfruit, Guava. We sat at one of the few picnic tables and umbrellas, and sampled our refreshingly icy shave ices, while looking at the gorgeous view of Lahaina and the crystal-clear waters. I liked my "root beer float" but it was a tad sweeter than I like. Perhaps I should've added a free sprinkling of Li Hing Mui. Next time! Yes, there will definitely be a next time! Thank you, Kyle!

The main option there was Island Vintage Shave Ice, so I headed over. This is a walk up spot where you order from the counter without going inside. When I got to the counter I was told they were out of coconut, strawberry, and mango for the day. Since I usually go with lilikoi and coconut, that was a bit of a disappointment, but not a deal breaker. After looking over the menu I ended up ordering a small with lilikoi and pineapple. I then watched as the ice was not shaved fresh but instead scooped out of a freezer. That was a first for me and it showed in the final product. Instead of being light and fluffy, the ice was clumped together and at times a bit hard. As for the flavors, the pineapple was good and tasted true to the fruit. The lilikoi on the other hand was lacking the sharpness that I really enjoy. While they were natural flavors, the balance just was not there for me. The bottom line for me is that I would not head back here again in the future. Between the texture of the ice and the lackluster lilikoi flavor, this one just did not do it for me.

A reservation system or some kind of other solution would keep people both well fed and safer. Neighboring businesses said the hack is to arrive at 10 when the initial rush has died down. Stopped into Breakwall for dessert after some apps at Down The Hatch. Someone recommended their strawberry and passion fruit combo w/ ice cream at the bottom which was fantastic! The guy in front of me ordered a Mudslide (boozy) which looked over the top as well.
