I'm giving this score because I have had better. I will say they have great table side customer service. Our meal was great. Nothing bad to say about that piece. To sidebar into the next part, our friends from Amsterdam were visiting and we drove from darn near Galveston to meet them for dinner at this place. While my boyfriend was splitting the bill with our friend I stepped out to attend to my horrible habit of smoking. Prior, we had all decided to watch the Astros game at the bar in this establishment once finished with dinner. Once I finished smoking I went back inside where the bartender told me he would not serve me because I "stumbled" and was clearly too drunk to be served. Mind you he didn't have the balls to say it to my face but said it to my boyfriend right in front of me and our friends. We naturally all thought he was joking - I had 2 glasses of wine. It was INCREDIBLY embarrassing and demeaning. My boyfriend stood up for me and spoke the Manager who offered us a stupid card for "next time is on us". Sure that's great... but how about you address your bartender who refused to serve me or address me as a human. This was our first visit to Brenner's. I was impressed Brenner's has been around since 1936!!! Our waiter/server was Jonathan. Kudos to him for being very attentive and knowledgeable. He went above and beyond expectations. I can not tell you how GREAT the service he provided for us!!! Thank You Jonathan!!! We started off with following appetizers: Jumbo lumberman cake(tomato basil & lemon butter sauce), Blackened Jumbo Scallops(dill hollandaise &bbq Onion Strings), Fried Calamari(togarashi spice, Shishoto pepper and Siracha aioli).The appetizers were delicious!!! Between the 4 of us we ate every bit of the appetizer- which we usually never do. This tells you how good the food is there. The main course we ordered 14oz bone in filets and 3 orders of 8oz center cut filet mignon. The sides: we ordered the off the menu lobster Mac and cheese, the German potatoes and asparagus. PERFECT is the only word that can describe what the executive Chef Carlos is doing in the kitchen. Kudos to you Executive Chef Carlos!!! The food was impeccable! I'm quite disappointed overall with my recent experience. I called a day ahead to make reservations for a birthday dinner, hoping to make the whole event smooth and seamless, which I mentioned to the manager when I called and he was all about it (seemed very nice). He asked where I'd like to be seated and I asked that they make sure we have a really great view; I even sent in a credit card authorization form with a big arrow at my number for them to look up my Landry's account. I called 9am and sent in my form the following hour; after lunch, we decided to change the time of the reservation by 30 minutes but no one was picking up. I called about 3x and the next day, I literally called 5x before I could get anyone to pick up. That evening, they sit us at the edge of a stairwell, where there was a lot of traffic and definitely no view (the restaurant wasn't even busy/full). We had to ask to be moved but still no view and I didn't want to make a fuss about it because I really just wanted to settle in as we were very hungry. The waiter was very nice but throughout dinner, it really felt like we were being rushed as he came over almost (what almost felt like) every 5mins to clean up. We felt as if we really didn't get a chance to even just sit and enjoy dinner without being constantly disturbed. Don't get me wrong, everyone was kind but it was just too much; the intimate dinner didn't seem intimate, which was too bad since the restaurant was so beautiful and the ambience was romantic. To top it off, it was as if they forgot I sent a form in. I had to remind the waiter and I felt like they decided to give us free dessert to cover the fact that they were looking for the form. (In addition, why was dessert being pushed so much if we were going to get a free dessert for the birthday dinner anyway?) In conclusion, it was my first VERY disappointing experience at a Landry's establishment. A long-standing Memorial City area restaurant that is now part of the Landry's family of premium restaurants, we visited this place recently as part of Houston Restaurant Week. Starting with the lobster bisque, I was actually a little disappointed by the lack of lobster in my bisque. I opted for the Berkshire Pork Chop as my main course topped with Port Wine Demi Glace served over rosemary mashed potatoes and haricot verts. This was delicious and definitely the highlight of my meal. My biggest fear with pork chops is to have it overcooked and dried out, and yet this was quite juicy and tender. came here for HRW with a group of friends. I definitely like how they have the set up outside the back area. Seems really romantic with the way they have everything set up with the lights. I definitely recommend ordering some appetizers that is not on the restaurant week menu, the crab cakes and the quail were fantastic. Probably the best thing appetizers I've had. For me restaurant week appetizer I ordered the french onion soup which was pretty tasty, the crusted cheese on the outside was the best part. For my entree I got the chicken which was basically a thinly cut fried piece of chicken, it went pretty well with the sauce that was served with it. Everyone else got the fillet which they said was pretty tasty. For dessert I preferred the apple strudel over the bread pudding, why? because it came with a scoop of ice cream! We were hoping to enjoy brunch on Christmas Day with one of our daughters and her boyfriend, but we were told as we were seated that the brunch menu is only available on Sunday, so I guess we will have to go back. Brunch on Christmas Day is difficult to find and steak and crab as the first thing you eat was pretty heavy for my system. That being said, my wife and I shared the crab cake appetizer which I really enjoyed - she said she didn't care for it. I ordered the dinner salad and petit filet mignon (6 oz) and green beans, which is a pretty big meal for me - especially at 11:00 in the morning. My dinner salad was delicious and the green beans were just fine. I ordered the steak medium rare and it was cooked closer to medium - but the meat was seasoned perfectly - very tasty! I have to say that Brenner's was VERY busy this day (even early), but the waitstaff, kitchen, and food servers kept the food pumping out to the dining room with impressive precision. The manager(s) probably knows he has a great staff, but this customer really appreciated these folks working so hard for us on Christmas Day. We went for my mom's 80th birthday, since she'd enjoyed previous visits. I made the reservation months in advance, but was told it had been cancelled upon our arrival since I hadn't sent back the form (I had with email confirming). Our group seated but service was slow, food was sub-par (temperature and doneness). My meal was brought 15 min after the others. Due to the wait for our food and no one asking how it was, we didn't say anything. However, I called and sent emails to Landry's without any response. I did receive a call back from Brenner's, but not a follow up as was told. This was overall disappointing, as this had been one of our favorites for special occasions, including our wedding. We do like the area in the back for photos and the restaurant is clean and quiet, but our expectations at an upscale restaurant were not met on this visit. read more

I really wanted to try this place and my husband brought me here for my birthday. The meal started off great and the place is beautiful, but suddenly it all went down hill. I ordered my ribeye medium rare. It came back almost medium well. The waitress didn't even ask to cut into it to check to see if it was prepared to the right temperature,which is odd for a nice steak place. It gets worse... She tries to convince me my steak is medium rare and that it the lighting. I've eaten at a lot of steak places that are much darker and I know what a medium rare steak looks like. She takes it back and then brings a small flash light then tries to show me again and basically proves nothing. She says they will make me a new steak. It gets worse... They bring me this thick steak that looks like no ribeye I have seen before. Looks like a New York strip at this point and my birthday happiness has faded. It is rare. It is actually "Blue", which is a cold center and a few seconds on the grill. I look at it and said, this is not medium rare. The waitress basically blames me and said they wanted to error on the side of caution. At this point, I'm thinking this steak house does not know how to cook a steak- SAD! I basically gave up and said I would eat it. Manager comes over and looks at it and says he will have them cook it a little more. My husband has finish his meal. The filet he had was good. I should have ordered the filet! The waitress was passive aggressive, which made it so uncomfortable. If you are at a nice steak place and your steak does not come out right, the wait staff should take it back and make it perfect. That is where this could have been fixed. She gave me a free cake on my birthday as an apology for my experience. Figure that, a free cake on my birthday... which restaurant doesn't do that anyway. Manager was so nice. The night could not have been more perfect! My boyfriend reserved us a nice table by the window -- complete view of the outdoor area in the back of the restaurant. Our wait was very minimal and the hostesses were very polite. Jamilla was our server, and she was amazing! She was very knowledgable of all the items on the chefs menu and was able to help us with drink pairings. Although, we ended up with Scotch and Whiskey Old Fashion's.. and for those who know my reviews, know I love a good Old Fashioned! Shoutout to the bartender last Saturday who hand prepped our drinks to perfection and took our photo in the courtyard. You da best! Anyways, THE FOOD -- ooohhhh we ordered the filet mignon and the red snapper, which was topped with lump crabmeat, accompanied by the mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese (yes, I know what you're thinking... but, my man likes starches). Y'all, the steak was ordered medium well, but let me tell you how it just melted in my mouth. It was so velvety and buttery smooth, so juicy and mouth watering and the au jus sauce was amazing! My snapper was great, it had a very fishy smell, but nonetheless, the lemon butter sauce completely blocked that from my aura. Amazing birthday dinner!! Loved every sip and bite. Ask for Andrew as your dining room server!! There was a decent sized party next to us who were loud, but when you're with friends, you should be enjoying each other's company. Despite the busyness of the evening, we were still able to get a table by the window. Great views to the fountain/stream. We enjoyed a couple of cocktails before dinner. Had the crab cake as an appetizer, dry aged, bone-in ribeye (split), and the au gratin potatoes, topped with a generous amount of bacon. We had leftovers, for sure. The story sounds good and the staff praise it but just from the water I knew I was in trouble. Water tasted like it was from tap. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. The akuashi ribeye did not stand the exceptional praise from our waiter. It didn't make me want to try it again. Lobster Mac was very good. The valet was awesome. Our server Morgan was amazing. The atmosphere was great. The food would leave you speechless. Management/Front desk? Rude! The manager Alfred was unprofessional. He sat us down (party of 5) celebrating my birthday at a table right next to the bathroom, two of the seats were pushed against the wall to the point we had to move the table ourselves to be able to sit down. When I asked Alfred if there was better seating he responded with " I don't know what better seating is" .Alfred made sure to make us all uncomfortable. Thankfully Morgan turned it around for us. We went here for our 5th anniversary dinner. If I could redo our date night I would go elsewhere. I didn't feel valued as a customer, I felt that we were just another number to the employees. We made a reservation for 7:30 and had to wait at the bar til 8:00 for our table. That was a bit annoying since we purposely made a reservation so we wouldn't have to wait. To start the hostess asked what we wanted to drink. She asked if we wanted bottled or tap water. In my mind I thought by bottled she meant in a regular water bottle from the grocery store so I asked for one bottle. Well they brought out this huge glass bottle of spring water. I think that by saying bottled water that is misleading, they should say a large glass bottled water. Thankfully it was only $7. I also ordered a drink with rum from the bar. When I tasted it, it was very strong of alcohol. I returned it to the bar and was glad they didn't charge for it. I was unsure about the appetizers and couldn't decide between the calamari or crab cake so the waiter said he would give me a mix of both. In my mind I thought he meant half crab cake half calamari. But it was actually one order of each appetizer on one plate and we were charged for both. I feel his description was misleading. I thought the crab cake and sauce were very good. I would order that again. The calamari was not enjoyable though. The breading was thick and coarse, like corn grains. I've had way better calamari than that. For the main course I had salmon which was very well cooked. My husband had the steak which he enjoyed. Another waiter asked if I needed my meal to be bagged and I said yes. I think our waiter had forgotten about us. For dessert we shared bread pudding. It had the right amount of sweetness. I was disappointed that they didn't write happy anniversary on the plate. They didn't comp us for an anniversary dessert either. I know some restaurants do that, but not this one. I think our waiter was new because he didn't seem familiar with the menu and only asked us once if we liked the food. I believe the manager or assistant manager came to our table and asked about the drink I returned to the bar. He didn't ask about our satisfaction with the food. Just for the reason of returning the drink. I thought that was strange. Usually a manager visits tables to see if the customers like the food... since that's why people go to restaurants... to eat food. Also before we left I had to remind our waiter that I was waiting for my to go bag. So our dinner was just mediocre. Some positives some negatives. We had an amazing experience at Brenner's for Valentines Day. I wasn't expecting much as restaurants are overwhelmed on special occasions. I was first impressed that they offered their full, regular priced menu, instead over priced limited choices. We were seated on time and our server, Paige was fantastic. She was very friendly and did a great job of timing the appetizers, salad and entrees. Our steaks and sides were perfect! They were obviously very busy, but two managers, Jeff and Erin, checked on us and were engaging with guests to make sure they were enjoying their meals. Great experience! The downside was that the bits of lobster throughout were overcooked and had a rubbery texture. -Seared Scallops with Cauliflower Risotto 8.1/10 Perfectly seared and seasoned. These delicately delicious scallops were accompanied with a healthy portion of jumbo lump crab and a buttery cauliflower risotto. My only qualm was the abundant amount of undressed, plain field greens that adorned the majority of the center of the plate. They could have just left this off as I didn't feel it added anything to the dish whatsoever. I mean, at least toss in a light vinaigrette?! At the end of the day, is this my favorite steakhouse? Honest Review: The waiters (Rebecca, Jordan, and Juan) were good... but the management was terrible. Tina is in charge of the planned events for the restaurant and she didn't pull through on her end at all. I watched my brother pass out cake before food because the timing on serving us was terrible. If you plan on having an event and want it to be successful, please don't have it here. The event started at 6 and people got there at 6:30, but we didn't get our meal until like 9. We had our company Christmas lunch at Brenners on 12/14 at 12:30p. Management did a very poor job allocating enough resource to handle their customers. They obviously knew the demand because reservations are required They only had one bartender for a full restaurant and lacked sufficient wait staff. It took us over an hour for the waiter to take our order. And another hour and to receive our food. One of my guests had to leave before his food arrived due to another appointment. Who would think it would take over two hours to be served? We rarely saw our waiter who eventually apologized for the long delay. And of course they added an 18% tip to the bill. My wife and I were Taste Of Texas diehards before trying Brenner's. We both had the best steaks ever tonight at Brenner's. Blew Taste Of Texas out of the water. My 10oz filet with garlic butter was literally perfect and my wife's Manhattan strip was cooked to perfection with absolutely no gristle. The cooked spinach side was way better than anticipated. My wife typically doesn't like tomatoes but helped me demolish the beef steak tomato salad. Mac and cheese was very good and mashed potatoes were pretty normal. The restaurant itself is good. Wait staff is good. But the only problem that I had encounter is that when I pulled up for the Valet parking. The Hispanic guy curse me out in Spanish as he assumed that I don't understand him at all. But unfortunately for him I am fluent in Spanish as well. That just ruin the night for me. For a such high prices restaurant they should employ someone with high moral and not being racist. I also a Landry select member so I will also rate this place at the corporate survey.
