So I went back here on a Saturday night craving wings and while the place was surprisingly quiet for a weekend night, the lady bartending was great and on her suggestion and helpful explanation of the process, I got their air fried wings. I have never tried an air fried wing before but I would put it in between the taste and texture of a bbq wing and a deep fried one. Crispy and juicy and the seasoning they use leaves these black specks that make them look like they just came off a grill. Definitely a fav of mine now and I am contemplating buying an air fryer on top of that. My only real complaint is it is really bright in there for a bar and I feel like I am eating under spotlights. Brickies Tavern opened its doors in 1956, making it one of the oldest bars in Reno! Definitely don't judge this book by it's cover because even though it might not be much to look at on the outside, the food will blow you away. Even though my friends in recovery tell me that it's totally ok for them to have dinner in a bar environment, I always cross my fingers nevertheless that the vibe of the establishment is good. Brickies came through for us after an afternoon of offroading in the mountains. It was the evening of the Golden Globes, and the show was on all of the TVs, and it looked like at least two tables of regulars were there specifically to watch. Brickies may look rough on the outside on 2nd Street, but everyone in there seemed to have a heart of gold on the evening we came in. Everyone was so friendly, from the folks at the bar who welcomed us with hellos and wished us well on our departure into the night, to the woman who took and brought our order, to the person who was about to clean the already very clean women's single-stall restroom before I dashed in. The food was great, too. We all ordered burgers: some of us "Big Brickies" and others of us "Little Brickies." Burgers come with a side of potato salad, potato chips, or chips and salsa. If Brickies had fries, they'd get five stars in my book. My husband's and my bill for two of us (no drinks, just waters) came to $32, including a generous tip. My husband and I decided to check out Brickies Tavern for the first time before heading to the Reno Bighorns game last night and I am really glad we did. We knew it was an older place - it has been in business since 1956! And were not surprised to find it looking like a somewhat weathered yet charming neighborhood bar when we walked in. What did surprise us was the very warm welcome we received when we sat down at the end of the bar by the tiny kitchen. Dave, the bartender, shook our hands, memorized our names, and told us about their Happy Hour specials. We ordered a couple of Lagunitas IPAs and asked for a menu. Dave was happy to tell us about their known specialties - their hamburgers and Mexican food. When he told us that their beans were made from scratch every day with no lard and that they do not use deep fryers, my husband and I were sold on sharing their Chili Relleno plate. We were super happy with our choice. It came with rice and beans, homemade salsa and we were also given some chips to go with it. Plenty of food to share. Dave even introduced Jose, their cook for the past 22 years, to us. We shook his hand and thanked him for our wonderful meal. This place is under new ownership so I recently came here with a group to try it out. I love that they have their own parking lot as parking in the downtownish/Keystone area can be tricky. But I feel like the parking lot is so tight! I'm glad it was relatively empty when I arrived and when I left because otherwise I would've been hard to get out of. They have a long bar menu of food: wings, burgers, quesadillas, nachos. While I think the burger was pretty good the rest is the food looked kind of questionable. For example the chicken in our nachos just didn't look quite right in terms of color so I avoided that. They have a decent selection of beers on draft but definitely more on the domestic side and less microbrews. However the service we received was great. Zach was a hoot and could probably talk to a wall he was so friendly. He consistently checked on us and was always making jokes. I have to say a number of people talked to our group that were in the bar and everyone was so friendly! The outside of this bar looks really rustic but the inside looks like your average bar. We decided to try this place because a friend of ours frequents it with his buddies and it gets good Yelp reviews. We came here on Sunday morning about 10am. The place was not very busy. There are about 6 tables inside about 15 seats at the bar and a few other chairs at another counter. There are several TVs scattered throughout the place. The kitchen is also behind the bar. The cook who creates the masterpieces works the grill behind the bar. The place kind of reminds me of being in a kitchen with a whole lot of family members. It seemed like the employees knew everybody who came in. We watched them bring their orders to them as soon as they sat down. It is a very small Tavern that absolutely has a locals feel to it. It would probably be a cool place to watch a game. We sat at the bar and the nice lady who works there brought us some menus and she also pointed out the specials board. We both ordered the bacon egg and cheese sandwich with potatoes. I had a Diet Coke and my wife had water. They proceeded to prep for sandwiches and cook the food on the grill. We've finally found it. A neighborhood bar that has taken the place of one we frequented in our western Nebraska home town. It's a fairly long haul for us from south Reno, but worth the drive. Wish it were just around the corner. Friends recommended this place as a local place with great atmosphere and good food. They were right! Our server, Jessica, was friendly, helpful, and efficient. We always had red beer (beer and tomato juice) back in Nebraska. Jessica made it with Bloody Mary mix and it was great. Their burgers were great. Big, well cooked to medium, tasty, and reasonably priced. They had that crust from the grill on the outside that I love, but weren't overdone. I have wandered in here for drinks and honestly discredited the place for the "dive bar" atmosphere. I stuck to a few drinks and never really gave it a shot as a bar to frequent although it's fairly close to me. All of that changed yesterday. It was fairly busy and I ordered a double patty burger and some tots (I didn't take them up on their dare for the triple patty). The Burger Arrived and for the price I wasn't expecting this bigger to be anything extraordinary. I smashed the tots and contemplated taking the burger home for a late night snack but my ancestral urge for this flame broiled goodness was too tempting and I took that first bite. I can't believe I've never heard of this place and it's been here forever! Popped in For a burger and they were at Covid capacity so we sat outside to order and wait for a table. Eventually as people left we were escorted in and seated at a sanitized table. As far as the Karen's leaving reviews about capacity and face masks, I experienced quite the opposite. Tables were spaced, sanitized after each party left, and people arrived in masks. We were asked to wait outside when tables were not available as were others that we witnessed. Yes when people walk it can seem packed but the owner (I'm assuming) quickly addressed it. It's a small place and few people entering can seem like an entourage. So needless to say, I witnessed the staff adhering to the current guidelines... mystery solved Karen's! It seemed as if there was only 2 people working and service was not bad, they were hustling to keep things in order and moving. Our order consisted of a plain cheeseburger, a bacon cheeseburger and tatchos. The cheeseburger was perfect, the bacon cheeseburger got a little charred but it was still pretty flavorful and tasty. It also had delicious thick cut bacon on top, yum. The Tachos were Fire!!!! DELICIOUS; only adjustment I would make is too cook the tots extra crispy so they don't get soggy so quickly! Brickies Tavern is quickly becoming the place that I always aggressively recommend when friends bring up wanting to grab something to eat. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but on the inside it's charmingly decorated with Reno/UNR memorabilia and a huge mirror behind the bar. The bartenders are always super nice, and there's usually at least 8 or so beers on tap. Great prices on pitchers, too! But the main thing that keeps me coming back is the food. This place used to have great food and waitstaff. Unfortunately, the new owners are clueless. It takes forever to get food. I have waited for over an hour. I stopped for drinks with a friend last week and found out they had let most of the old waitstaff go? i spoke to friends who just tried to have dinner. Is it only in Reno you will find a dive bar whose parking lot is semi packed with Mercedes, Lexus, and BMW's? It kind of took me by surprise as I approached this venue that was established in 1956 and had been suggested to me by an acquaintance who serves as a bartender here. The place is quaint, a little dark as it does not have any windows. The floors were clean, standard square pattern. There was a completely filled long bar (about 20 seats) and several high top tables, one of which had just emptied, leaving us to wait only for the server to clean the surface before we were seated. We looked at the sandwich board specials and the breakfast menu. The kitchen was one of the smallest I've ever seen, no wider than the cook's arm span. Simple is the kitchen, simple is the menu. We were there for breakfast, which is served 8am-12pm. My daughter was less than enthused with the selection, as she has very picky tastebuds, but opted for the biscuits and gravy with soft scramble eggs and crispy, crispy x 3 bacon. I inquired about the huevos rancheros, which sounded delicious but not quite what my tastebuds were after, so I requested the 3 eggs over easy with homefries and sausage patties. My man ordered the house made corned beef hash. We were served a plate full of buttered sourdough toast, which came two of our meals, and told we could request more if we desired. The presentation was exactly what you would expect for a diner. There was a bit of grease and the portions were plenty. The only condiments on the table were salt and pepper, so be sure to ask for the ketchup and hot sauce if you desire them. My breakfast satiated me and the sausage patties were thick and juicy. My daughter was pleasantly surprised at how the cook satisfied her bacon desires...it really has to crisp, not bend, and most attempt it and burn it...not this cook, he completed the difficult task masterfully. She was a happy camper. May man seemed please with his hash. I also had a cup of joe ($2) while I was there and it was better than most diners I regularly visit. Now that I'm a coffee snob, it's really hard to find a decent poured cup that is bold and has good flavor. This was good enough that I would recommend it to others. Overall, the food was ok, and I would be willing to come back and check out their lunch menu, especially since I heard they make a really good burger. The price point seemed right on for the portions and equal to other diners in Reno ($7.50-$9.50). Service was a-ok; she was friendly and charming and helpful with questions, but she also forgot the creamer for my coffee, and the hot sauce for our plates...it's those little things that make a difference for me. I was surprised that the place nearly emptied out before the AFC Championship started. I was expecting the opposite to happen. The bar has two decent size flat screens and a third tv that were all easy to view from our high top. They turn up the volume for the main event. The tavern also has some gaming at the bar. I didn't pay attention to the alcohol situation, just enough to know they have a full bar. Just might look into their Happy Hour situation and maybe suggest them to another Yelper for her event. Breakfast. This is for the Breakfast. I'm not sure you heard me so I will say it again. Don't read this review if you wanna know how they are with the booze. We didn't booze it up at all this time, we had breakfast. I snagged the last corned beef hash at 11:00 am. Already a good sign. Nice that they are prepping to service. Means the stuff is fresh. My hash was good. Eggs cooked just the way I ordered them. My wife got the basic breakfast with Sausage. Again. Good stuff nice big patty and eggs cooked just fine. But the star subject on this Sunday morning was my daughters biscuit and gravy with eggs and bacon. But no....not regular bacon. My daughter is one particular eater. So particular that she wont eat bacon unless it is crispy. And about 90% of the time the bacon comes out well done but not crispy. It's a sad story that she experiences over and over and over again. Nobody can get the bacon crispy at even the best breakfast places. It comes out burnt or charcoal in spots and still rubbery in other spots. By now you know what is coming up next. PERFECT CRISPY BACON. PERFECT. It was not overcooked in one spot. It was thick and it was crispy. I have no idea what that cook did, but the black magic he did on that bacon is downright scary. I honestly didn't think this could be done. And to top it all off...the man did PERFECT soft scrambled eggs! How? My mind was blown. I just couldn't comprehend someone actually doing both of these things and being the same person and it being on the same plate. Oh wait...one more I had a few forks of the gravy. I'm no cook. So please forgive me as a fanboy over my daughters plate. There was something different about this gravy. It had hunks of meat in it...but those hunks of meat were like dumplings, with great balance of doughy and meaty. I wasn't a fan of the biscuit style but they weren't mine anyway. My daughter ate them all up. I would say I am disappointed that I haven't walked in before today...but it would just mean that many more days taken off the end of my life. The food is a tasty, unhealthy splurge that I probably wouldn't have resisted as much in my younger days. Now....I have just a little more self control.... Sorry for the long winded post, but I do have to add that the place is basically a neighborhood bar. Not really a family eating atmosphere. Just a bunch of hi tops with stools pulled up to them. God knows how many times we have driven by this place and never noticed it.... it is that time of the month, Burger night, last day of the month every month, we get to have this for dinner. Dad picked this place because it is close to the house and we were all very glad we tried it. Great Charbroiled burgers (with Flame coming up through the grill) topped with Ortega chili and strips of bacon (cost extra!). 3.5 ish stars if I could. For my preference, its just a bit too divey, for me to come back in a hurry. It was packed on a Saturday morning, for brunch, which looked like a good sign. Most of the poeple seemed to be rgulars... although it was one of the bartenders birthday's so a lot of people were coming in for that I think. Not a gigantic menu, but the staples, plus a specials board, which I don't think ever changes which includes corned beef and hash, chicken fried steak, huevos ranchero etc. Prices are pretty good, with everything under $10 I believe. I got a bloody mary with clamato which was tasty and made with the right proportions, and the chicken fried steak. Cory got the huevos ranchero and the rest of the table had the hash, biscuits and gravy, and the hamburger steak and egg breakfasts. The table had sugar on it, in an open jar... which seems wrong to me... The toast was all served together in a basket, which is actually pretty genius. I enjoyed my breakfast, the chicken fried steak had great fried exterior even under the gravy. But I loved the potatoes most, the home fries... tastes just like my parent's. Cory said his was good, though to me, it looked a little... red neck haha The biscuits had to have been homemade and were huge, and another seal of approval from the hash and eggs guy. The food was good, very greasy spoon, like, I imagined before smoking was outlawed that the cook stood and had a cigarette out of his mouth type of place. Everyone was more than friendly too. The cook is regulated to just a small corner behind the bar, but it is all open, which I like to be able to see. For me, the atmosphere wasn't pleasurable enough for me to jump at the chance for my return. A little to dark, a little too dingy. We live a few blocks away, and we decided to try Brickie's Tavern with our neighbors. We were in the mood for burgers, and on this Friday night, Brice's did not disappoint! I had the patty melt (no onions...yeah, I know, sacrilegious), 1 had the regular burger, another had the bacon burger, and I don't remember what the last entree was. We also had what seemed to be bottomless glasses of cabernet. Zack (Owner's son), was a great host, and we enjoyed the ambiance and excellent rock music from a couple of decades gone by. We all enjoyed our meal and drinks. Then 2 of us went back on a Saturday night. We tried a salad and the brisket street tacos. The tacos and the Cole slaw with them were unbelievably good! The salad was okay, and they were happy to take it back and toss it in dressing. Katie was the bartender/server tonight, and she was phenomenal! The food and drink were just what you would want from a great neighborhood tavern. We truly enjoyed both of our evenings there, and we will be back, bringing friends with us. Holy rolling stones, this place was AMAZING! It's a tiny little bar that you don't expect anything out of. You walk inside, there are menus, limited seating, and some specials up on the whiteboard. Lots of sports paraphernalia and a couple TVs to watch whatever game is showing. Also apparently a big local crowd given the football squares hung on the wall. The waitress recommended the burgers as "what they're known for," so we went for it. Fresh off the grill (a visible 10 feet from where you sit) and absolutely delicious. It was great for the price and absolutely tasty. No fries, however, but the burger was more than good enough to make up for it. Next time I hit up Reno, I'm definitely heading back here. read more

The atmosphere is divey however a bit contrived with written proverbs staring you in the face off the back bar mirror. I find the importance of this a bit strange but obviously a conversation piece. This is supposed to be Reno's version of "Cheers, however on the same thought, most want to keep this 1956 establishment a "secret". In all reality, does anyone really want to be associated these days with "Cheers"? Reno has it's fair share of quality dive bars. I really am totally bewildered and extremely hurt by myself and my wifes treatment in Brickies and on Christmas eve,we were planning on spending Christmas day there a week on im still reeling. Firstly im from the uk ,my wife American we moved into the area nearly 9 months ago. Zack was always extremely kind and pleasant which is why this senario is so upsetting, i come from a pub background in the uk, i served many people in Oxford Street in the west end of London, we loved going to brickies then all of a sudden i found some staff not as welcoming or wishing to serve us they'd be quite happy to leave us waiting, now im gonna express my wife is disabled and likes to take a comfy seat, but what has happened is just beyond me instead of communicating with me as im British and the cultural system is a bit different, the staff in brickies namely one bar man who never gave me or my wife the chance to redeem ourselves, literally stormed over to our table he is a guy in his forties he made us wait for 15 mins before having his outburst, Zack was in the tavern before this and was ignoring us, so Christmas eve he comes over the bar man and goes do you have a problem with some of the staff in here and i was shocked by his demeanor as we had been made to wait for so long for service so 2 gay women in a bar with an angry bar man we looked like we were being set up for pure embarrassment, i finally replied yes sometimes the service is a bit slow then he bitterly says ohh i have told zack what im doing . He raises his voice and says you ate the worse tippers in the world by now i was defensive i said what he said well we get paid crap money and hour and you don't tip i was flabbergasted, i expressed look in the uk we don't have a tipping system there, and he instantly says well i told Zack whenever im working im not going to serve you he works 3/4 nights a week. He then walks off no nothing my head was spinning needless to say we left , i did want to talk to Zack but we felt so hurt, i mean if this bothered him so much talk to me how the hell can you correct something if your just stone walled??? We had a i believed a genuine friendship with Zack but he treated us badly i nearly ran a bar in London and if you don't communicate with your customers then what does this say,the owners of the bar are so welcoming, our Christmas day was ruined with the notion of our custom meaning nothing and just to put the bar man straight im a British national here so i can't work, my wife works on a production line supports me financially we live in a motel so he probably earns more than my wife, he complains about money well at least you can work,to have no chance of defending ourselves we have had no choice but to write it here i loved brickies but now we feel humiliated and deeply saddened by Zack im an open person who believes in resolving conflict so yes brickies is amazing just make sure you leave a tip its just a very sad story i thought i would always be welcomed in brickies we do miss Zack and the atmosphere but to be treated like this is so upsetting read more

Four stars for the breakfast, which I guess is served only on weekends. Three stars for lunch and dinner, which is standard bar food. Four stars for the atmosphere of a friendly neighborhood bar. For breakfast I got the hash and eggs. The hash is excellent and recommended for hash lovers. For dinner I got the burger. It was fried and tasted like I would make it at home which isn't a plus. The homemade potato salad was fresh but didn't seem special. The choices of beer was pretty standard. It's a friendly bar.
