This bar has been one of my favorite places for over 10 years. Their food is excellant, as long as you dont want guacamole with your fantastic Mexican food! Today, however was a nightmare! I have lost 70% of my vision, I have a service dog. I usually go to Brickies on our walk. I call ahead and tell the Male bartender I am walking there and within 1 minute of arrival. I order my margarita and food. He brings it out to me. Today my phone had died by the time I arrived. Having a SERVICE DOG, I went inside. I went to the nearest table, it wasn't busy and my dog kept to himself. The dark haired female bartender immediately came over with such a look of disgust and hate, it made me nervous. I told the dark haired female bartender with a smile, that I only wanted to order, because my phone was dead I couldn't call from outside, so just wanted to order real quick and proceed to outside tables to wait for drink and food. Plus I get the food to go. First, she motioned my dog up... he jumped up. I told her I am training him - he is a service dog in training please don't do that. She then called me a liar, even though he had his tags on and service jacket. She then told me in the meanest terms, we don't serve people like you LEAVE. I am so sad to loose one of my favorite places. It is a place where the older gents hang out, but the food is good. I live within walking distance so since it's never busy, has good food, it's been convenient. I went back with the 'paperwork' she asked for, she annouced"why is that bitch here?" I wanted things fixed so she wouldn't do this again, that's why I returned with the paperwork to show her. The Male who usually is quite nice to me, came over and told me she complained the dog jumped on her. No apologies were made he offered me a margarita and then charged me while she ranted and paced behind the bar, till finally she loudly annouced she couldn't take me sitting quietly at a table (without dog), and slammed back door open as she went to go smoke her pot outside 'to help her deal with it'. This place has been around forever and it is a total neighborhood dive bar. It is filled with regulars (mainly lots of old men). The bartender knows everyone and what they drink. I went here a few times years ago and I remember it being pretty good food. I also remember the prices being very reasonable back in the day but that not the case any more. It was happy hour and the happy hour price for domestic drafts was $3.50! Like really!? This is Reno, not Vegas and this is a dive bar people. I noticed the food prices had really gone up too. Like $9 for a hot dog and $12 for some of the burgers and sandwiches. I don't mind paying that if it is worth the price but it just kind of shocked me that a place like this would have prices like this now. Comfortable little pub /grill. Three two of us had 1/3lb. burgers and one of us had a party melt on rye. Nothing was cooked to order (no options for med. rare for example) but they were pretty good burgers with all the toppings. Really thick slice of onion which I liked. Friendly staff. I will never go back here. I went in because I wanted to eat a little breakfast while I worked on a paper. All the tables were full and I didn't want to sit at the bar, so I took a spot in the back corner next to this weird side-table looking thing. I carefully scooted it over so that I might have a little more room, when the fry cook angrily snarled "Don't mess with that!" That was the sum of the interaction I had with any "staff" that might have been working there. I waited 10 more minutes there for anyone to even say hi, no less take an order. I made eye contact with the waitress and bartender as they passed several times. But alas, the only staff interaction was the angry fry cook. After 10 minutes, I left. Went to iHop instead and while it wasn't a great meal, I at least had a friendly waitress. read more

Brickie's is a great little neighborhood bar and grill! I'd heard amazing things about their burgers but what about the non meat fare? My options were grilled cheese or tuna melt so i decided to live dangerously and get the tuna melt. Do you know what the server asked me? he asked if I wanted jalapenos on it! I've never been asked that for a tuna melt, I love me some spicy so that's a win right there. I opted for chips and salsa instead of lays potato chips. he brought us a healthy serving of salsa. I'm not sure if it was homemade but it was tasty nonetheless. As was the tuna melt! Toasted to a golden brown, the perfect crunch in every bite. Oh, they also gave us a small pile of pickles with each sandwich. Another win! This is an easy going "good ol' boys" type of place where the bartender is also the server so be prepared to go up to the bar if you need something! Great food and drinks at reasonable prices. Welcome to Reno's version of CHEERS because chances are Steve knows your name! Wow, color me impressed. Not only was the service at the bar akin to eating with family (on our first visit no less), but we were lucky enough to hit the restaurant at lunch on Wednesday for the Corned Beef Taco special. They were amazing and the prices are reasonable! This is not, mind you, the ambiance capital of Reno, but I didn't go into this neighborhood tavern expecting that. Pretty small place. Suuuuper friendly. Great food/drink prices. We will definitely be back to try breakfast and to catch Niner games! Oh and lest I forget, homemade potato salad. This local dive bar is everything you want in a dive bar: Good drinks, good food, and friendly service. The bartenders start to recognize you after you've been there a couple times and they definitely remember their local clientele. Highlight for me at this place is the hawiain burger. Your choice of a beef patty or a grilled chicken breast topped with ham, pineapple, teriyaki sauce, and cheese. I usually order it with the potato salad. The kitchen is very limited here (no fryer or oven) so I try to stick with stuff that's cooked on the griddle instead of heated up in the microwave. This place is packed on weekdays during lunch so come early or late or be patient, whatever you do just don't complain because you've been warned! read more

It is with some light trepidation that I review Brickies Tavern. Brickies is nearly perfect as it is. It's like a local's place of old, trapped in amber. I don't relish the thought of hordes of folks descending on the place...but...we press on. First off, being in my...ahem...middle late 40's, I appreciate a bar where I'm almost always the youngest person. This means you are surrounded by seasoned professional drinkers and few amateurs. It means that the seats at one end of the bar almost invariably have a cast of "regulars" at them. They are talking a bit too loudly about baseball. It's magical. The decor is straight out of 1978 and I mean that in the best way possible. While the place has been open since '56 or so it's clear the last time it had an update was the late 70's. It's pretty much linoleum and bar stools. And yes...TVs. The bar is, oddly, fairly well stocked. A couple of cheap beers on tap, a few high end as well. Nothing too fancy or crazy. You'll most likely get a bartender of the "three ingredients in a drink is about right, and ice counts as an ingredient" school. This is not to say that they won't make you a mighty fine Bloody Mary, just that they'd /prefer/ to pour you a Jack or pop the top on a Coors Banquet Beer. They are also, usually, talking to the regulars about baseball. In a good way. The grill is open for lunch and dinner, breakfast on the weekends. The burgers are solid. Simple, again...nothing crazy or fancy. Get the fried egg on the grilled chicken sandwich. Just get it. The chili is old school and meaty and delicious. I can't say I've had the breakfast, although that's on my list. All in all, Brickies is about the overall vibe of a place. This is what earns it 4 stars. It's an old school neighborhood tavern. The emphasis is on the way things have always been, on the neighborhood, on a good beer served cold with a few friends and some guys talking about baseball. read more

The wife and I drove up from San Francisco on a Sunday for a short gambling trip. We left early in the morning so we could go to Duffy's at the ballpark and watch the Giants game. We arrived at 1pm and found the restaurant to be completely locked up - never mind that their web site says they open at 11am and a contradictory sign at the ballpark says they open at 1pm (which obviously wasn't the case). Still wanting to drink beers and watch the game we consulted the smart phone and ended up at Brickies Tavern. When we arrived, there were about 6 friendly locals at one end of the bar - we were able to park ourselves right in front of one of the big screens with the Giants game on. Carlina the bartender was super friendly and totally attentive to her customer's needs - I don't think I was ever with an empty glass the entire time. They also serve food (burgers, nachos, etc. along with breakfasts on the weekends) which is cooked behind the bar. I like it when you can see the food actually being prepared and think it makes for a better dining experience. We shared a plate of chicken nachos which were HUGE but nothing special. They have a good bottle beer selection along with about 6 on tap - Blue Moon was, IMO, was the best they had on tap. While we didn't try one, we watched Carlina make some Bloody Marys which looked delicious! I'll definitely go back on my next visit! read more

My first impression was a good one. The parking lot was full and the aroma of burgers grilling is fabulous. I sat at the bar which isn't typically my first choice because I find it difficult to reach my food. After I ordered, the server/bartender brought my silverware on a board that fits nicely on the edge of the bar bringing the food closer. So far so good. I ordered a patty melt with chips and salsa instead of potato salad. There is one guy doing all the cooking so either come early to avoid the lunch rush or allow for more than an hour for lunch. I think it has been almost 30 minutes since I ordered but the bartender is keeping my tea filled so its okay. When my food finally came it was worth the wait. The onions were grilled and sweet. The meat was cooked slightly more than I prefer but wasn't dried out. There was just the right amount of melty Swiss cheese and the rye bread was grilled just crispy enough to hold the sandwich together. Overall I enjoyed my meal but will definitely try to avoid the lunch rush next time. read more

Brickies Tavern Has one of the best grilled burgers in town with great cold beverages and amazing waitresses. Too bad they feel that they don't need to comply with the governors mandate to wear masks! I just went there for lunch and there were about 35 people in there every chair was filled and no one was wearing a mask! Even my waitress had her mask below her chin. We did not sit inside because I knew it was not safe. I even spoke to the owner who told me he felt that as long as someone walked in with a mask they were meeting the governors requirement. I witnessed at least 10 people walk in the building with no mask and no masks on their faces. If we are ever going to get out of this Covid mess every business has to comply. It saddens me greatly but I will not be going back, EVER! read more

Really, based on the positivity of the reviews of this place, I was hoping for something more (and I was really hoping for breakfast, which we were about 15 minutes too late to order), so I guess I was just disappointed. I ended up going with the BLT. The sandwich itself was a solid 5-star sandwich, and I was pretty impressed; it's definitely one of the better BLTs I've had from a restaurant--plus, the screwdriver I had with it was strong (and pretty cheap) so that was a plus. On the downside, the menu was a little smaller than I expected and I wasn't impressed with the sides--chips and salsa were not really what I wanted, but since I don't do mayonnaise, potato salad was not an option for me. The salsa wasn't great--it was probably from a jar, and it was pretty bland, yet spicier than I like. I do want to mention that this is totally a neighborhood bar, and they seem to really know and value their regulars. I don't consider that a negative thing, but we were Reno tourists this weekend, and we still managed to visit quite a few neighborhood bars, and most of the other ones were more friendly and welcoming than this place. No one here was RUDE to us, but I definitely felt like an outsider. So, basically, this place is okay. It wasn't MY favorite, but I can see why it could be someone else's, and I really wish I'd been able to try the delicious-looking breakfast. read more

I found Brickies whilst looking for a good place to watch the USA play in the World Cup. Truly a locals establishment, i think we were the only new guys there. Definitely recommend as an alternative to the usual chain restaurants. The bar keep was super friendly His food suggestions were spot on. Reviews constantly refer to Brickie's as a dive bar. To me that kind of bar is frequented by rather unsavory types. In this case I guess having been in business in the same location since 1956, and the building looks as if it's never been refurbished, you can refer to it as, well, a dive bar. The crowd includes huge numbers of professional people for lunch. I'm not sure about the night crowd. As with any bar food, not every item on the menu is rated a five star. I strongly suggest a cheeseburger if you want to be impressed, and I rate it a 10 star on the 1 to 5 scale! The only other menu item I've tried is the cheese enchalidas (Can't spell that), and I rate them as excellent. The primary down side is there do not serve fries. If you've had bad service I hope that was an anomaly and you'll try again. read more

We usually LOVE Brickie's and we've been coming for years! The service this most recent visit was the worst I've ever had anywhere!! We were greeted with attitude. 2 out of 3 dishes were given to someone else.. the one dish that was served, we had to wait nearly 10 minutes to get silverware so that was about cold. Finally 30 mins later the other food arrived. Unfortunately the terrible service didn't end there. The waitress ( Sheri) delivered our check and decided to socialize with other tables as if we haven't been here far too long already. We took our check to the bar, stood there for a good bit and finally asked the bar tender to check us out. The food is good here but there are plenty of worthy places to eat with mediocre service which would far surpass this experience! read more

Reno has some great burgers--Little Nugget, Ryan's....--BUT Brickies has the best burger hands down. Get the Big Brickie with The Works, pepper jack cheese. You're welcome. Also, look like a pro and get potato salad. You can get another side (chips? fries?), apparently, but I've never seen anyone order them. The potato salad is the best on Earth. THE POTATO SALAD IS THE BEST ON EARTH. The patty melt will spoil you forever, it's phenomenal, but get the burger to start. The staff is great, good people, a great place to roll in and get some cocktails, even if you're not hungry. Wonderful, neighborhood bar vibe, good prices. Female friendly for sure, as there is NO pickup energy at all. Staff keeps a great handle on everything, fast service on food and (especially) drinks. Definition of don't judge a book by it's cover. Brickies isn't in necessarily the best part of town and may even look a little run-down from the outside. However, me and buddy decided to stop in for a Friday afternoon beer. The place isn't too big and every seat at the bar was taken. We sat down at a table for a couple beers and an appetizer. The bartender was beyond friendly and the vibe in there was great! Everything was a good price and the food is easily better than typical bar food. I will be back!! read more
