It's a fine spot for brunch, but I think that there are far better options at a similar price point. To me, it's never really worth the wait given the subpar/rushed service, just decent food, and the fact that my bottomless cup of coffee is often left empty. It can be a bit loud/crowded, which makes it tough for larger groups. But, if you find yourself here, get the Brickway Benedict! Comes with some pretty solid home fries, too. Woke up in Providence and we'd had our fill of Man Vs Food and knew hot dogs were on the menu for the July 4th evening. Scrolling through Google, honey found a breakfast place for our 2 little monsters and ourselves. First, the streets are small here and parking is at a premium. This place is located in an area that can create parking issues for you. Use the sign to locate the establishment and walk to the back. It is a very small place and pending croud you might need to wait. The place is aesthetically pleasing with the art and the wait staff is very courteous. The order included big breakfast, burger, oatmeal and Brickway Special. The burger was awesome a bit over cooked yet good portion and good taste. The oatmeal was tasty yet a bit hard for one of my sons. The breakfast felt home cooked which was a plus. Finally, the buttermilk pancakes were sweet and another plus. Take your pick, it could be a chain or local owned both about same yet I little more plus for the local place. Cost $50 for 4 with waters and coffee Happy 4th of July! PS this city has a GREAT fireworks show and you need to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn by the water. read more

I had the salmon Benedict was tasty. Turkey bacon was not good. Maybe my fault for ordering turkey bacon lol. I truly do not understand why this place is always PACKED on weekends -- there are so many amazing breakfast options in Providence and this is not one of them. I'm happy to wait for food that's good, but this place usually seems to have a 20 minute/half hour wait and the food is just not good. I've been here a few times and had the pancakes, french toast, home fries, and eggs. I found the pancake portions to be pretty small, but the food is cheap so that's not the end of the world... I've just gotten way more pancake for my dollar a lot of other places. Everything was pretty bland, unseasoned, and not any better than I can make for myself at home. It's also really loud here, and the tables are super close together. I end up feeling stressed out as I eat and leaving very underwhelmed. I guess the plus side for prospective patrons is that I've noticed they are open on holidays (Memorial day, Labor day) when most other restaurants in the area are closed. Sorry Brickway, I really don't like leaving negative reviews but I just do not understand why people love this place. read more

I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. For one they don't have an updated online menu so when you order your food you're really being charge like $2 more for each item you order. On top of that they charge you a 10% "PICK UP FEE". That's right a 10% "PICK UP FEE". And the food wasn't cooked properly. Not to mention there were egg shells in the eggs NO LIE. So I guess the secret is going MID-WEEK based on the plethora of angry reviews... FYI complaining about a brunch wait time on a Saturday or Sunday, anywhere kind of makes you sound like you've never been to brunch before... That being said, in the 100+ venues we've hit for lunch in Pvd over the last year, this was the FASTEST meal we've ever gotten. It took less than 5 minutes from the moment the order was placed (chick/avocado/blue cheese omelette, homefries & toast), to when it was placed on the table. (And it was cooked perfectly). Would recommend overall as a 4 out of 5, losing 1 star because of service (won't get into detail). read more

Great place for brunch, expect to see a line there before being seated. We ordered the blueberry pancakes, the steak and eggs, French toast with strawberry and the Brickway benedict. My kids love their pancakes and the French toast they are not too sweet but we expected the syrup to be homemade instead of prepackaged by Smuckees. We do love the homefries guess because it's tasty and has a decent amount of seasoning on them. My medium rare steak in the other hand chewy like a slipper. I guessed I got the wrong cut of beef. But my wife enjoyed her egg benedict. We will definitely stop by again some other time we are in Providence. read more

I've been here twice, inside's pretty nice, bright colors and art, staff with a heart. Had breakfast both times, Didn't wait in any lines, Was promptly served coffee, found it bold, rich and frothy. First time, wasn't sure what to pick, landed on the brickway benedict. Eggs came perfectly poached, The chef must've been coached. Second visit, switched it up, they still kept coffee in my cup. went with the Olympus, it was well worth the fuss. My girfl got some french toast or pancakes (i forget, thank god) covered in a somewhat bitter yogurt.blueberry mix and let me try a bite or two. Visited with my wife and met a friend for breakfast on a Tuesday morning. It was moderately busy. I'm glad we visited on a weekday because weekends I'm sure are very crowded. I ordered the banana pancakes and my wife ordered the French toast. We split a fruit bowl. There were plenty of choices when it came to omelettes, pancakes, and French toast. They even offer gluten free options. My pancakes consisted of three small to medium size flapjacks that had just enough bananas cooked inside. The syrup was the thick and sugary kind found in the grocery store. I believe they should offer real maple syrup and charge extra for it. You might be surprised how many people might choose that option. The French toast consisted of several slices of Texas toast. My wife enjoyed it. The fruit bowl consisted of apples, grapes, pineapple, and strawberries. Very fresh and nothing was canned. The coffee was good and I'm a coffee snob. Service was good. Prices were very reasonable. Although the place wasn't crowded, it was loud. I couldn't imagine how loud this place is when it's bursting at the seams. Overall, a nice local place to get a very good breakfast. read more

Oh Brickway, what happened to you? I remember really liking the food here years ago. but either my memory is faulty or things have gone downhill. The pancakes were rubbery, and my egg sandwich just tasted off, with the most unappealing looking onions I've ever seen, and the hashbrowns were blah. The restaurant was almost empty at the time, so a hurried kitchen was not the cause. Everything on my and my friend's plates was just flat out not very good . For the prices they charge, I could have had a much better meal at Julian's, or saved 5$ and gone to Donna's. I left feeling cheated. At least the service was friendly and prompt, and the iced coffee was good, but I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. read more

I'd give it zero stars if I could. I used to like this place for it's basic service but I think the service is tasteless and dishonest. I was with a party of 10 - mostly weeping people - who were there right before we were to attend a memorial service for our friend. Our emotionally distraught party did not pay attention to the bill and just paid. A gratuity was added to the bill. Waitress did not tell us. We ended up double tipping. Now that I am looking at receipts and realizing this - I think that place is just tackless and lame. Any good person would have taken note of our emotional despair and been nice and told us they added a tip to the total bill. Will never go there again! read more

I went here twice during the Thanksgiving holiday. The first time, the coffee tasted like it had gasoline in it. Truly undrinkable. I had the oatmeal and it was fine but nothing to write home about. The guests I was staying with suggested we go back and give it a second chance. Egg dishes all around. You certainly could put the food in the 2 to 3 star catagory. Coffee was better but tasted like it was from a grocery store can. The place is very tight so be prepared to be friends with the people to side and you have to get up to let the people behind you in or out as the back of the chairs touch sitting down. Icing on the cake - we had spent around $50 for 4 people, paid our bill and was finishing our coffee (not sure why). The watress came over and ASKED US TO LEAVE! The prices are right and the breakfast options diverse. Most of the breakfast food costs around $7 and pretty much everything is less than $10. Highlights are: 1) they offer side options for some of their more enticing options, i.e. blueberry topped lemon french toast, sausages; 2) their relative wealth of vegetarian-friendly options - always hard to find for breakfast food; 3) the variety of cheese offerings, which include blue and goat cheeses; 4) their spicey red potato homefries - quite flavorful; 5) bottomless cup of coffee. Our waitress kept filling our bottomless cup of coffee - +1 star - but stopped as we neared the end of our meal - -1/2 star; and 6) the scene. Wickendon St. is the Thayer St. of old and now holds the grungy art scene. The only thing I don't like about Brickway is their sliced bread french toast. French toast is supposed to be huge, very thickly cut pieces of bread, not grocery-store-sliced-bread-thin. This review is based on the only time i have eaten here, but Brickway didnt make the best first impression..... I was in a group of six, and while all 5 other people in my party seemed to enjoy thier food, the service is what brought the 2 stars... They wait staff has been described as bitchy, and thats dead on.....And our particular server seemed to not know a whole lot about the menu. We were in on a sunday for (lunch), and after sitting down and being told what the soup of the day was, we ordered.....and then we were told there was no lunch menu or soups..only breakfast and wrap sandwiches served with homefries. I thought it was strange that we were told what the soup was, but when we ordered it she said there is no soup on sundays..... The Room is a little to cramped as it seems there is 50 people in a room that holds 40. I imagine if i went back with perhaps a smaller group, I would have a better expirience. read more

I've never had bad food here... but have often experienced bad service. Funky little places like this tend to have funky service- and Brickway is no exception. I'm all for eclectic servers... but if you can't get decent (or even just rudimentary) service because the waitstaff are unprofessional there is no point in going . My lunch visit 2 days ago will be my last. Got the wrong food. Couldn't get a refill of our drinks because our server abandoned us after her spouse and baby arrived. We sat down at 2:35, and got our food a lazily 15 minutes later (*after* our server's spouse, even though we were seated first). Lastly, we were given the bums rush when we couldn't inhale our food prior to Brickway's 3pm closing time. Just all-in-all a sucky experience. My last four visits have been similar. One bad experience is a fluke, two is a coincidence, three is pattern, four makes it restaurant policy. I advise eating elsewhere. read more

Brickway on Wickenden is a great place for a quick bite at a convenient price. Most people make the mistake of trying to go in the front door of this place..WRONG! There's a side door so be aware. The wait for Brickway is usually under 20-30 minutes if you have a party of four or less, any bigger is kind of pushing it, and will usually result in a much longer wait. The best part is though is Brickway is on Wickenden Street, which is filled with great local businesses that you can walk in and browse. The food at Brickway isn't anything to boast about, but it is good and relatively cheap. I normally get the 2x4, which is two pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 bacon, and 2 sausage for about $9. Like I said pretty cheap. The service is always friendly and looking to fill up your coffee or water. The vibe of the place I would describe as on the cusp of being a hipster vibe. What I mean is they write the specials on a chalkboard in the middle of the dining area. They have graffiti all over the walls, and even the overall customer seems to have a hipster vibe. Now I have nothing against a hipster vibe, I just call it as I see it. Anyway Brickway is always a good place to eat if you don't want to spend too much money and want a quick bite. I'll admit that I'm a bit of a brunch snob, so when my girlfriend wanted to go to Brickway for brunch with some friends I was against it. After all, it's not really brunch if the place serves breakfast all day. It's just not the same. The overview: While it was not my usual brunch experience my food was delicious and our waitress was competent. For the price, I'll definitely be back. The specifics: I ordered the huevos rancheros, which was a special, my girlfriend got some sort of berry french toast. My huevos were awesome. The eggs were nicely places inside the tortillas and then all the other things were kind of off to the side on my plate so that I was able to make my own little egg burritos. The huevos had everything I needed: eggs, avocado, salsa, beans, tortillas, sour cream. Everything was hot when I came out, like freshly prepared not sitting under a heat lamp "hot". The portion was just the right size for me - I ate everything on my place and I left feeling full but not sick and stuffed. I also tried a bite of the berry french toast and it was pretty good (I rarely am impressed by french toast). Either way everyone I was with loved their food and for 4 people to have meals and coffee/juice it was about $35 + tip. Complaints: I felt a little rushed. Our waitress brought the check before we were halfway through our meal, without asking if we wanted anything else. She also stopped refilling our coffees after she brought the check. I remember loving Brickway back in the day. It had to be eight or ten year ago so I decided to stop in on a recent Saturday morning. The place wasn't busy and I'm not sure if it was because Brown students aren't back in school/the neighborhood yet or because the food was just mediocre. It took a few minutes for the waitresses to decide who was waiting on me and then when I asked for an iced coffee, the waitress delivered me a cup of hot coffee instead. Meh. I ordered what was once my old favorite dish- french toast topped with lemon yogurt and blueberries and banana pancake for my breakfast companion. The french toast came and was a bit overdone. Too dark for my taste. The blueberries were tiny and frozen. With it being August, there's no excuse for frozen berries. The pancake was fine but nothing special and a bit rubbery. The waitress was very nice and checked in on my table a few times. When I paid the bill, she brought back only dollars and didn't give me the coins that I was owed. I thought that was odd. I actually have an emotional dependency on Brickway. As a Brown student, Brickway is my go-to boozy brunch location. It's nestled on Wickenden and is neighbored by coffee shops, ice cream shops, antiques, and a short walk to India Point Park. I've been coming here for four years now and still have yet to try all the different omelettes - there's a very large variety of them, and none of them have disappointed. Most entrees also home with home fries, which have some sort of special seasoning/flavor that makes them so good. The lemon blueberry french toast is single handedly responsible for my freshman-15 weight gain, and I often get a side of the french toast along with a brunch entree. The Brickway Benedict is pretty decent, and their hollandaise sauce is on point. *Almost* most importantly, Brickway is BYOB, which means you can stop by Campus Fine Wines on the way, pick up a bottle of champagne, order orange juice at Brickway, and then DIY mimosas with brunch. The atmosphere matches the colorful, painted decor -- it's fun, it's full of life, it's Brickway. read more

The wall-o-art is really spectacular, but the dirt everywhere makes you wonder what kind of environment breakfast was prepared in... How can breakfast go wrong? By being very, very bland. I got the croque monsieur, which actually inspired me to make homemade ones at home, because I'm certain I can do it 200x better. It had a nice french toast base, but the meats were cheap and the cheese tasted like rubber salt. My home fries were cooked in margarine, which is all too 80s for my millennial pallet - sad face. Michael got the Santa Monica which consisted of three ramekins: granola, yogurt/fruit, and egg whites. They were described as, "healthy, nutritious, boring." Breakfast for two came to $19, but only because I had my coffee before I arrived. Skip the first meal of the day, slide into your skinny jeans and go for a modeling shoot at BoW. read more

I've been here a few times and have never had a bad experience, but I've also never left saying to myself "I can't WAIT to come back." Their menu is pretty robust for a breakfast place, full of unique offerings plus seasonal specials. The service is very fast based on the fact they have to move you. it gets insanely busy because for some odd reason, this is the only place for students to go. So, the Brickway is okay. I can't imagine anyone really jonesing for this level of mediocrity though. The pancakes are rubbery. Coffee's weak. The omelettes are nothing special. The hashbrowns are... different. The space on the weekends is very loud; don't plan on an intimate conversation, or a quiet space to get rid of your hangover headache. It's also very tight quarters. There's a good chance that there will be a toddler 3ft from you, probably putting his syrupy sticky hands on your jacket. They definitely move tables in-and-out very quickly, so even if the place is packed, you shouldn't have to wait too long for a table. This rubs some Yelpers who prefer to eat the first meal of the day at a more leisurely pace the wrong way. If you're in the area, and you're hungry for some breakfast, The Brickway will suffice, but it's nothing to write home about. read more

Brickway on Wickenden is a terrific breakfast and lunch restaurant on Wickenden Street. It's address alone tells you that it's probably a bit of a hipster/college student vibe (and that fact that it doesn't open for breakfast on weekends until 8 (which is actually earlier than some other local breakfast places!). It has a self-proclaimed "creative atmosphere" which is true: the walls and tables are colorful and eclectic. But how's the food? Really good but not earth shatteringly good. There are always specials on the chalkboards and I highly recommend you try them. They have the best variety of variations of eggs Benedict around and my own personal favorite is the banana/chocolate chip pancakes. The tables/seating is tight so no gossiping in this place as someone nearby is bound to hear and being Rhode Island, they'll know who you are talking about. The reason why I've given it 4 and not 5 stars is the somewhat-surly servers and hostesses. I've been here many times and they have a pattern of employing servers who do not serve with a smile. Or who chat. Or who seem friendly. It's fine - I always return - but it holds them back from being a 5. read more
