We went to the restaurant at 1:50 on September 2nd. When we asked if we could sit on the patio, Chrisa said no. When other staff said we could, we were able to sit on the patio. Ironically, other guests were allowed to use the patio. We waited 20 minutes to place our order. No one paid attention to our table. Rather, the bartender at the restaurant watched to see if we were okay. In the end we went to chrisa in person and asked to place our order. After she said she understood, she focused on other things, answered the phone, and ignored our presence. In the end, we left the restaurant without even being able to order. chrisa ignored us till the end and didn't even say an apology. The service at such an established restaurant is ridiculous. I hope there are no more ridiculous services like this. read more

Upon arriving to the Coronado location of the Brigantine, we waited at the door until gestured to the Happy Hour area, which is where we requested. The young man pointed the way. When we arrived, there was one high top table. We asked the people accompanying the table if we could sit there. Several minutes later a waitress said that she could clean the area in a few minutes. In the meantime a table opened up nearby. In order not to lose the table we sat, literally for 10 minutes for anyone come by. The table was cleared, but took another five minutes to be wiped. In the meantime a waitress passed by and my husband asked her for a menu. She wasn't our waitress, but brought us menus. We ordered and waitress was pleasant, but we won't be back. read more

Haven't been here in years I used to think of it along the same lines as the now defunct Bully's restaurants in Del Mar and Mission Valley but I'd say that the Brigantine has achieved a sort of stolid old school fused with nouveau cuisine appeal. We had the char grilled marinated octopus appetizer ( with greek olives, olive oil, lemon, frisee & tzatziki) - very hearty and tasty - and the wok charred ahi (seared sushi grade tuna, wok tossed vegetables, wasabi shoyu sauce) and True Cod fish and chips (with fries) entrees. Everything was very good and portions were more than adequate. Bread - a dying offering at restaurants these days - is free, hot and good. No cappuccino or espresso just coffee for after the meal but then keep in mind that this place is rooted in old school traditions. Our server Fernando was attentive and on the mark. We drove 6 hours to enjoy a good seafood meal and I ordered the clam appetizer for $20 and the meat was a half of the size of a penny and more than half of the shells were empty. I found this place by accident when I was leaving a meeting. It was early in the evening so it was fairly easy to get a seat, but they were full by the time we left. They had a good beer list, which my business associate commented on the good beer. I had a glass of the Brigantine Chardonnay, which was fruity, dry, and crisp... aka tasty. We skipped the starters and I ordered the Crab Stuffed Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. Fantastic shrimp in a white sauce with mixed vegetables and rice. Great dish! My only complaint is that the portions could of been a bit larger, but not a huge complaint. This is a nice restaurant on Coronado Island, hence the prices are a bit high, but most of the eateries on Coronado are a bit higher than other places in San Diego. So if you are on Coronado give this restaurant a try, you will not be disappointed. read more

Upon arriving and being seated (reservation was a bonus because there was a wait), we were awing all the newness. This was our first visit since the modernization reno, and were were surprised to see our tried-and-true favorite had changed very much. We've long enjoyed this restaurant quite a bit, if not for the meal, but also for the feeling of being surrounded by rich, dark wood and nautical themes really imbuing that feeling of being inside of, well, a brigantine. It is definitely a modern and pretty dining room, but I found myself pining for the old authentic feeling of yore and can't help but think of the tune "You've lost that loving feeling" silently. After seating, our server was fun, energetic and playful- explained the delicious-sounding specials of the evening and gathered drink orders promptly. Drinks arrived slowly but surely, no problem because every dish on the menu sounds great- add in evening specials- needless to say, choosing dinners took us a while. Meanwhile, we had soups, salads and two types of baked oysters. One Rockefeller, the other a garlic variety. I preferred the garlic oysters - they were light, bright, juicy with good briny oyster flavor. The oyster was lost in the Rockefeller dish. On the other end of the table, I heard the clam chowder was quite good. I ordered the salmon of the day and it was BLAND but cooked perfectly on the edge of medium/just slightly rare, my favorite cook on salmon.Still, I was left wishing I'd gone with a number of other promising dishes on the menu for flavor- but our server graciously brought over a wasabi sauce upon request, and that did save it to some degree. Elsewhere on the table were a couple of lobster specials- well received with a delicious sauce. My partner was underwhelmed by his filet medallions for lack of seasoning, I agreed, it was a middle of the road dish. Also a crusted ahi, kid's Mac 'n cheese and lobster tempura tacos... all good and enjoyed in that order rounded out the table. The adults helped finish the Mac and the "orderer of the Tacos" wished she had gone with a large bowl of clam chowder instead of the taco but only because, the chowder was THAT yummy. All in all, a pleasant meal that felt dialed in, but when there used to be a little unspoken magic, it's hard not to compare. As a family tradition, I know we'll be back, but we won't make it a point to visit this location destination if not in the area. read more

Really amazing seafood restaurant. Lots of different selections of fish and a wide variety of seafood from fish, shrimp, crab, scallops. The appetizer also included a number of different seafood. The highlight of the night for me were the steamed clams in the red curry and chorizo sauce. It was so good dipping the bread in that sauce. I ordered the seared ahi tuna dinner with rice and Chinese vegetables. It was perfectly done. It says Wasabi sauce but I did not taste any Wasabi. The rice was perfectly cooked which typically isn't the case at American restaurants. The portion was huge. I also had a bite of my colleagues blacked salmon. Boy that was good. Nice spice, perfectly blackened without it being burnt. Kudos to the chefs. My other colleagues ordered the scallop dish and another the shrimp and grits. Both said their dishes were very delicious. My husband and I had reservations for 5 pm.. I called around 3 pm and asked if we could go earlier and they said yes. When we got there at 4 pm, they told us dinner was not opened until 5 pm. Kinda wish they wudv said that when I called. We had to go to the bar side for a couple of appetizers and drinks. The margarita had too much lemon stuff and weak. I had to order an extra shot of tequila. The calamari strips were good but the clam chowder way just "ok".. I was able to taste flower.‍ not very tasty. At 5 pm, we were allowed in the dining room area but by that time we weren't that hungry so we ordered a half salad for each of us. I ordered a mud pie to go.. I get it, it's busy but we had to chase down refills and an order of fries for the table for while we waited and waited and waited for our food. Brigantine has a great location across from the Del Coronado Hotel and within the El Cordova Hotel. My wife and I sat outside and it was a very pleasant place to dine. The service was excellent. The waitress was friendly and efficient. The drawback was primarily the food. We had the Brussels Sprouts which my wife and I thought were very good - and a very good size portion. My wife got the fish and chips. The fish was excellent with the right amount of crispiness. The fries with the fish and chips were really average. I had the ahi tuna slider. I love ahi but the piece of ahi in this slider seemed to be drenched in salt. The fries with my dish, like my wife's, were really average. I came here for a graduation dinner and it was the perfect spot for a small get together. The patio was cute and much quieter and enjoyable than inside. Our server was very welcoming and polite. Good fondue! Delicious fish sandwich and salad with pecans. The bartender made a lousy bloody beer and I had to wait ten minutes for a replacement made the right way. The place is busy with a very small kitchen that we could see as we sat at the bar stools overlooking the prep station. Lets start with the calamari.. Ok, in SD, on Coronado island and they serve frozen strips that i get from red lobster!?!? That was the beginning of the end!! Server would of been happiest at home by his dry , hey what would you like attitude! The octopus was super chewy with no flavor! The kale gave it some life but not enough! The grilled oysters were buried with fried potatoes and had more butter flavor than anything else! The lobster roll was okay, but greasy and the star of the show was the truffle fries but i can get truffle fries from anywhere.. I've always enjoyed going to the Brigantine. In fact, we went two nights in a row as we were staying in the adjacent hotel. However, our last visit over this past weekend was less than satisfactory. Appetizer and drinks were ok but the entrees we all had were subpar. We had the special which was not so special: Macadamia crusted Mahi-mahi. Grainy and flavorless fish with a bland crust. Had to get Brigantine hot sauce to make it less meh. It would have been nice if our server had offered something different or made an effort to make up for 4 people having a bad dinner. Oh well. Not the usual stellar Brigantine experience. We'll try someplace different next trip. read more

Arrived early for our two person 8:30 reservation. Brigantine is a chic restaurant - dark woods, cool boat hull hanging above the bar, interesting light fixtures - which is reasonably loud. Unfortunately, the ambiance was the high point of the meal. The food was the low point. If you're going there to eat, eat before you go. At our table, the clam chowder came out tepid and over seasoned. The aggressive salt use may have been to mask the utter absence of whole or chopped clams in the chowder. While perhaps minced clams existed, their taste was not present. Worse, the crackers they provided were stale. Not "these went out of date last week" stale, but more like "this is hard tack from the American Revolution" stale. The entrees were also bad. My swordfish steak was thin and over cooked and over seasoned. My dinner companion's shrimp and grits were over cooked, bland, and the grits were instant grits, which made us laugh about that scene in My Cousin Vinny. Still, nothing came out edible, and everything was taken away no more than half eaten. Service was inattentive and slow. It was hard to tell if it was a poor staffing level, the end of the night, inexperience, or some combination. Bread never arrived at the table, though it was promised by our waiter twice - once when he first arrived ten minutes after we were seated, and once when the soup course came out. When the soup went back, he didn't ask about the quality, though the crackers were piled in a soggy mass on the unused bread plate. He did ask if the entrees were good, and so got a single star. Wine list was small, prices a bit more marked up than I expected, and the wine we selected came out at appropriate temperature. read more

The minute I saw Seared Jumbo Sea Scallops, one of my all-time favorites, I ordered them. Delicious! Another person in our group got the blackened salmon, something she had orderd before. It came with roasted cauliflower. Some of the sauce ingredients were bacon and butternut squash. There was a slight problem when someone ordered the Famous Fish Tacos, was not asked if she wanted breaded or grilled, and wound up with the breaded ones, which she did not want. She stuck with that order, but didn't really enjoy it. The teenager in our group ordered the New York steak. It looked delicious, at least for the few minutes it was on his plate before he wolfed it down. That came with mashed potatoes and nice, fresh garlic green beans. Service was very slow. We finally had to ask someone other than our server if they could bring the table bread and get refills for those who needed them at that time. I did not have a good experience with the restaurant but wasn't gonna write a review about it given the restaurant industry is struggling even more so than before because of the pandemic. However, when I found out they were being careless and overcharged my credit card by giving themselves additional tip on a to-go order after having provided a subpar customer service, I decided to leave a feedback. I used to run restaurants and used to enter the tips on credit card charges myself. From my experience, this type of mistake is not common unless done intentionally. If you want a bigger tip, even on a to-go order, provide a better customer service. When you see customer entering, acknowlege them or come to their assistance instead of ignoring them, especially if they are obviously confused and looking around. For a restaurant that charges $25+ per entree, the lack of helpfulness and enthusiasm from your staff was appalling, not to mention the uncleaned outdoor dining area. Don't overcharge customer's credit card by giving yourselves a bigger tip. I gave $5 tip on a $57 to-go order even though i did not think you deserved it. It's not a lot, but i was hoping it'd be something to help during the pandemic. But you still overcharged my credit card, making me regret I frequented your restaurant at all. Don't think the customer will not notice you giving youselves a few extra dollars. read more

This Brig location is great! I went with my boyfriend and his friend a few days ago (day of the earthquake actually) and it was extremely busy but the service didn't suffer one bit. Our server was super friendly and efficient but not overwhelmingly checking in lol! Boyfriend got the buffalo chicken taco and it came out with the worlds smallest piece of chicken and they kindly brought us another taco with a generous portion and let us keep the first one. We have been at Brigantine on Coronado Island many times. It has always been outstanding. It has great seafood and a full menu, as well. The service is great, and the atmosphere is fantastic. It is right across the street from the Del Coronado, and there is plenty of activity right outside the windows of the Brigantine. There is outdoor seating and an outdoor feel from the inside. I was skeptical sitting in their outdoor patio area, but it's enclosed and is well heated. The food was very flavorful and presented well. To start we had the oysters. They ran out of a variety of oysters, so we ended up getting just blue-point. That's not a bad thing, but it would have been nice to have a slightly larger variety of oysters. For our main dishes we ordered the gumbo, the salmon and a custom steak with added blackened shrimp. They're happy to accommodate special requests without too much trouble! The salmon was absolutely delicious! I eat salmon all the time, and the presentation of this dish was remarkable! I highly recommend this dish! The steak was very good and cooked to perfection. The gumbo was flavorful with just the right amount of rice, which is hard to do outside of New Orleans! Overall we had a great dinner and the kids ate everything on their plates.
