Broad Street Diner has just about everything you can want out of a diner. It's got the old school diner feel, meaning seating can be tight during rush hour breakfast, but get here before 9 on a weekend and you'll be fine. The food is fantastic (and yes I know it's a bit strange to say that about a diner) but it's true. The menu is extensive - everything from classic diner fare to some really unique options (check out their Instagram). Finally, the service is impeccable. Not only do you get service with a smile, but you will get your drinks right away, your coffee topped off and be checked up on to make sure you have everything you need. It's no surprise that BSD was voted best NJ diner. No, they aren't open 24 hours but as I am now officially no longer in my 20s, I don't visit late night diners quite as much (plus their food is too good to be eaten by a bunch of drunks that will barely appreciate the experience). I love this tiny place. The staff coulda been nicer but I'm sure they're sick of out-of-towners and I'm sure they can spot em a mile away. They weren't rude. Just not friendly. Like everyone else, I read that the BSD was crowned New Jersey's best diner. We get down this way every so often but we usually eat at Bahr's or Keyport Fishery. We made an exception the other day. It's a small place on the main street of Keyport. A short wait for our booth. Great service. An extensive menu. Myriad specials changing by the day. But it's always breakfast for me at a diner no matter what time of day. Corned beef hash and scrambled eggs for me. Well done hash browns and an english muffin. An omelette for my son with moz, bacon and sausage. Everything was well prepared and delicious. A take out salad for my wife was ordainary. Nothing memorable. Like many of my fellow reviewers, I had bookmarked Broad Street Diner because it was voted the nest diner in NJ. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. First of all, the parking situation is very limited. Street parking can be tricky. The restaurant is very bustling and busy, and I did like the decor. Be sure to check out the Elvis statue! For me though, that's where the good parts end. I found the service to be quite slow. I ordered the crabcake Benedict and I was extremely disappointed. The asparagus was really soggy. The potatoes were extremely underseasoned. And the crabcakes were a bit too fishy for my liking. I will say the eggs were cooked perfectly and the hollandaise was good but the whole dish really didn't come together for me. I never leave potatoes uneaten on a plate and I actually did for this dish. The waitstaff overall is very attentive and friendly but I was just genuinely disappointed that the food wasn't up to far for all its publicity. read more

One of the best real diner experiences I have had. I met family here for breakfast and it was my first time visiting. Everyone with me at the table said the corned beef hash was the best so I ordered a side of that with my florentine eggs Benedict. Everything was cooked perfect and the corned beef hash was one of the best I have ever had. It came in this cast iron skillet which was really nice and kept it warm. I really don't eat Cheeseburgers (or burgers in general) often, and in fact, it's probably been eight months since I last dined on a Cheeseburger. On an Election Day off from work, I really had a craving for a Cheeseburger and scanning local restaurants on yelp, Broad Street Diner caught my attention as they offer a Juicy Lucy cheeseburger. I ordered a customized version of the Juicy Lucy deluxe platter (the deluxe includes French fries) adding an additional beef patty and a upgrade to sweet potato fries. What have I been missing these past eight months! My first bite resulted in a euphoric sensation from the interplay between the robust beefy flavor of the juicy hamburger patties and the unique taste and texture of melted gooey American cheese. Broad Street Diner does not advertise the size of their hamburger patty, but I would guess it's 4-6 ounces; inline with most other restaurants. Don't forget the freshly crisp lettuce, onion, and tomato slices which helped provide a healthy contrast to the rich beef and cheese. The toasted slightly buttery brioche bun was sturdy enough to handle the heft of the Juicy Lucy patty, my additional beef patty, and the other accoutrements; as it remained toasty and fully intact. Note that my previous burger experience was a venerable McDonald's classic Cheeseburger and it provided nowhere near the taste bliss of Broad Street's Juicy Lucy, proving the humongous gap between a commercial chain burger and a burger from a higher quality location. The sweet potato fries were very good; fried to a nice crisp, not greasy, and seasoned with just the right amount of salt. I also ordered a garden salad (regular sized, not a side salad) with balsamic vinaigrette as a compliment to the luxurious Juicy Lucy and it was a high quality salad with fresh lettuce, arugula, cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, and one of my favorites in red onion. Service was friendly, professional, and attentive; not easy considering the restaurant was very busy for lunch. This diner truly is one of best ones that I have been to, and that's saying a lot! The dining area is the size of a trailer, but the vibe inside is totally 50s retro. We loved how friendly everyone was, but the food is why we came! The French Onion soup was delicious and savory, and they had a great selection of burgers. My guy got a brunch burger whose sunnyside up egg had the most perfect runny yolk. I had the Smokehouse burger which has pulled pork, BBQ sauce, cheese, and fried pickle chips on top of the beef patty for a meat party. The brisket tasted amazing with the tangy BBQ sauce, and the pickle chips added a bit of zest. The only bad thing is that the pickle chips get a little soggy from being nestled in so much sauce, but that was a tasty burger! For those who actually eat coleslaw, it's a little sweet and heavy on the mayo. If you like it creamy, you'll love the one here. I would definitely recommend checking this place out, especially if you like classic diners. Just be careful to watch all the steps outside! They have warning signs on the doors that I still managed not to see, and sure enough, I tripped upon entering (in more ways than one). But after eating here, we considered moving to Keyport because this place is just that good! read more

Our first time here, after hearing about it, and it was excellent. Broad Street is a small place, only about 50 seats, in classic diner style. Due to the lack of space there is usually a wait to be seated, but service is fast, and well worth the wait. What really stood out was the fresh, simple cooking and superior service, really going back to the idea of what a diner should be. One small example: subbed mashed potatoes instead of fries, and the potatoes were homemade and delicious, nothing processed. We visited Broad Street for dinner on a Saturday night. My parents have been raving about this diner and have been dying for us to try it. I ordered breakfast for dinner, and it didn't disappoint! My #1 pick in diners in New Jersey. Old time train car type diner. Small. Seating is tight. Food is definitely top notch by diner standards. They rarely have a bad day. Menu features Americana style classics, but they also have a few creative food items. Nice compromise between classic diner and updated tastes. I go there once a month or so. Pricing is reasonable. Big downside is that they're popular. If you arrive there during peak times,days,there is a good chance you will be waiting. Service is usually very good. Owners are present. Coffee is OK; always fresh. Favorites are their homemade corn beef hash (photo). French toast. Burgers and sandwiches are excellent. Even salads are good. Meatloaf is excellent. The 'Texas barbecue brisket' sandwich is a complex - messy pileup - and is definitely not for everybody. My advice; order it with the pile up items on the side. Beef stew special is excellent, nice recipe. I am guessing it's done in a slow cooker.. Keep-in-mind: If you are a big person you may be uncomfortable. Not handicapped accessible (steps into diner & tight inside, narrow bathrooms access). I've chosen it is my number one choice as I like the old-time diner experience. And at the same time their food is some of the best diner food I've had. My boyfriend and I were around Sandy Hook, so we decided to come here since this diner is claimed to be the #1 diner in New Jersey. I honestly would not say this is #1. Parking here is street parking. Luckily, it's free but when it gets busy, you'll have a hard time finding parking. Next, this diner is quite small. We came during a busy time and there was a line but we were able to get a table. People after us didn't get a table right away because the whole diner was full. No seats or tables were available at all. So, if you plan on coming here, expect to wait during their busy hours. I will say, they do have a nice selection of food on the menu. Some choices are unique. I was going to go with the "chocolate babka french toast" which sounded very interesting. However, they have a 2 for $20 menu or entrees for $10 on their special menu. I ended up going with the chicken stir-fry which has an asian flavor. Ordering from this menu, you also get soup or salad and pudding or jello. The chicken stir-fry didn't taste too bad, but the flavor became overbearing. The sauce tasted good, but they had put so much when I felt I just wanted more rice to counteract the sauce. In the end, it was just alright. The service wasn't too bad. Although it was busy, the waiters and waitresses were very attentive to all their customers. The food was clearly better than most diner's food but is it the best? At the end of the day, it is also still a diner. The Good: The ingredients tastes fresh and many of items are made in house. I always get their burgers which uses a meat blend that they ground themselves. I also enjoy their many homemades sauces. Service is always friendly but they get busy and it is sometimes hard to get their attention. The Bad: You have to find off street parking which can be hard on the weekends. The restaurant is tiny(30 seats?) which means there is always a wait during peak times. This can be really annoying if it is cold out. They are not open late. They close at 9PM!
