I agree with most of the reviews. They have very fast service and great customer service. The cashiers were very energetic and happy. They would also recommend items they personally like and big sellers. Please note there are only two small tables and a bench, so don't think this is like Starbucks or a cafe. Not a study environment like Local coffee. The pecan muffin was fluffy sweet and filling. The chocolate covered oatmeal cookie is a diabetic nightmare, but oh so rich and tasty. The Kolache was "alright." I tasted both the cheddar and regular. It does not warrant the high price. The grape bread was excellent. Overall, good place for some unique breads. I know people came here and say their Cinnamon rolls are great, I agree, but have you tried their Cinnamon Twists yet? I ordered 2 dozen Cinnamon Rolls this morning for work and I tried the sample Cinnamon Twist while waiting and it smacked me right on the face when I realized how freaking good it is, so I ordered another dozen Cinnamon Twist. Broadway Daily Bread does it well. Besides employing the friendliest people in San Antonio, the breads, breakfast options, and desserts are absolutely wonderful. The cutting board full of samples is awesome, usually causing me to over-purchase and over-tip. I never regret either. Best muffin in San Antonio. Hands down. When I'm in town, I like to buy a loaf of "Birdman Bread" which is soft and heavily seeded. I'll pick up a banana bran muffin, sometimes a few oatmeal raisin cookies, and another for the road. If it's Friday or Saturday definitely try the blueberry pecan scone (it's iced, but the scone itself is soft and not overly sweet, allowing for the blueberries and pecans to provide the flavor). The coffee is also very good, specifically the Snickerdoodle. Seasonally, their apricot pistachio bars, pumpkin muffins, gingerbread biscotti, and gingerbread scones keep me coming back. I love this Bakery and what they represent, local business blooming doing things the enjoy and doing it well. My biggest bone to pick is just overall prices as I understand quality must be matched by the price you request but in most items price tag I find it to be a little overstated for value. the cleanliness, quality, service, and convenience however will continue to bring me back time and again should I be looking for those interesting pastries that no other Bakery seems to offer to this level of quality or sheer level of inventiveness. PS if you aren't in the know they have day olds you can buy for reduced price, which is normally great however I don't recommend it for the fruit-flavored kolaches as the bread beings are sealed in a bag for 24 to 48 hour period Does give off a unpleasant taste. I highly recommend to get fresh their oatmeal chocolate chip cookies as they are spectacular and at their best the morning of, however the flavor is good regardless of their age but beware they get past three to four days or they turn into rocks. read more

The minute you open the door you are drawn in by the delicious smell of freshly baked breads and treats. I know the staff must get there very early in the morning to start baking. Breads, muffins, scones, cinnamon rolls, cookies...everything is delicious, made with healthy, fresh ingredients. The staff and owner are so very friendly, even when super busy. We took a little excursion this morning out to the Daily Bread; we were not disappointed! For breakfast we purchased 2 bacon and cheddar scones, a sausage kolache, and a cranberry scone. All were just delicious! We also purchased a lemon bar and pecan pie bar for after lunch....wonderful! About a year ago my 17 year old daughter stopped by your store looking for a job. I was in the car waiting outside. she was seeking for her dream job, at a her favorite bakery doing whatever ! A few minutes later she walked out crying and telling me how rude they had been to her. Needless to say that was the last time we got our bread from this local bakery. Forgot to say my daughter had a slight disability ? Nothing that prevented her from working a few hours a week. She was also beautiful, smart with a shy personality at times. Okay, I went back and it was just as good as before. I had the snickerdoodle(great), and a 7 layer bar (my favorite.. it had layers of coconut and chocolate chips and a crust on bottom, not sure what the other layers were). However, this place has a good and bad side. The good everything is fresh. The bad, everything is fresh. This means it will be yummy and not hard when you get it. It also means that by the time I get there after work or after waking up on the weekends, they are usually out of all the stuff I want. Broadway Daily Bread bakes divine muffins, 5 stars; and decent bread and cookies (i.e. - tasty enough, but not anything I couldn't duplicate or top at home...for considerably less expense), 3 stars. Parking, 2 stars: it isn't the worst I've encountered, but could be better. I'm much fonder of full spectrum eating establishments - and would probably have afforded an extra star if the bakery had more of an area to lounge and nosh...which is probably one reason I don't object to the fact they're closed on Sundays [and after all, this IS 2011 - we all should learn to be tolerant of one another's religious beliefs...if indeed, that's why the store is closed Sundays]; the other is that I recently learned I can't eat wheat :-/ So I won't be returning - but I'll continue to recommend the muffins to anyone with a hankerin' for sweets! read more

Okay, when I was in high school, no matter where I went to lunch, I would go over a get a couple of cookies from Broadway Daily Bread. One for me and one for the teacher that taught the class I was going to be about 15 minutes late for. The cookies are absolutely delicious. So chewy but not falling apart chewy. They have a array of cookies too. I would always get the oatmeal choco chip. Yum. Of course they carry things other then cookies. Fresh bread and pastries made daily which is so fun to grab at the beginning of the day. The employees are so nice and helpful too. I was never judged for my cookie obsession and I appreciate that. Note: This review is strictly pertaining to the Key Lime Pie Bars (only available on Wednesdays, before I go and buy them all). Wednesdays are the new best day of the week. Why, do you ask? Well I'll tell you. Because of the hard but wonderfully crumbly graham-cracker crust... Because of the perfect balance of tart and sweet key lime flavor... Because all of that goodness is topped with sweetened shredded coconut. Key Lime Pie has never tasted so good. Seriously, it's so good that I gift them. I actually just give people these bars as a gift because they're fantastic. Now, the muffins are okay. Just okay. Some better than others, but most leave me wanting. Their bread is, of course, lovely. Their sausage kolaches are good but they don't have cheese in them which knocks them down a notch for obvious reasons. Just go on Wednesday. If you see a crazy lady at the counter requesting even MORE key lime pie bars, walk away. Because that lady is me and I'm addicted. Broadway Daily Bread is actually a bakery (unlike some other local places with "bakery" in the name). It's quite dangerous, because it's one of those places with a giant sample board at the counter. They have kolaches, muffins, brownies, cookies, scones, breads, and my recent favorite item, a butterscotch zucchini muffin. They also have a few different blends of coffee and one or two tiny tables, although this really isn't the place to come and sit/hang: it's a bakery, not a cafe. When I'm up early and feeling magnanimous, I stop here on the way to work and pick up a box of assorted items. For '09, the prices are very reasonable. I have this fantasy that they'll expand and start serving sandwiches and soups, but the baked goods are dreamy enough on their own, to be honest. I recommend parking on the side street rather than on Broadway itself, since backing out of the Broadway spaces is a little harrowing. But seriously, do your coworkers a favor and come try Broadway Daily Bread. read more

Finally stopped by after driving past for a year thinking "I should try that place out". Always on the lookout for something yummy. I had a rasberry kolache which was so soft with some zingy tart rasberry in top. Delish! But the bread! When I read that they add honey to their basic white loaf I got excited. My German Grandma Evelyn made bread every day that was just slightly sweet. In the manner of many rude teenagers I never helped make it but always ate it up. So the recipe was lost with her and I am always on a quest to find bread as good as grandmas. When I picked up the loaf after I purchased it I got a little more excited. It was heavy. Not with the heavy "dense" feel that comes from bread machine bread, but heavy with homemade goodness. They offerred to slice it for me but I said no - i wanted an inch and a half slice at least, with butter. And that is exactly how I enjoyed it 10 minutes later standing in my kitchen next to the cutting board - oohing and aahing over it. Perfect consistency, beautiful crust and that hint of sweetness. For baked goods, 5 stars. I haven't been to a better bakery in town, but that damns this fine business with faint praise. So why only 3 stars? Because they're CLOSED on Sunday. I don't care what kind of beliefs the owners have, but this is a major inconvenience to me as a customer since that's pretty much the only day that's convenient for me to pay a visit. I am going to assume that this is motivated by a desire to impose, through denial of service, their own religious beliefs onto their customers in a way that's even more direct but less easily recognizable than their name for the business. So I deduct 2 stars for this offense alone. If you don't like losing stars, maybe you should consider hiring someone who is willing to work on Sundays. So what is really good here on days other than Sunday and Monday? muffins, scones, cream cheese kolaches. Go forth and enjoy! read more

The owner, Chris, is all TOO sweet! Just like his goodies! The family and I went in for our weekly bread fix and we ran into him on our way out. He stopped the kids and asked them if they got what they wanted. When the kids said 'yes' he said 'well, come on in and get something else to add to it!' Daily Bread is a locally owned bakery that has become a fixture in Alamo Heights. My Saturday morning routine involves taking my three year old daughter to Daily Bread and letting her try some of the always generous samples while I pick out breakfast for the family. The muffins are absurdly delicious, the lemon bars are amazing, and I always end up with too much. One thing that my wife loves is that they have cinnamon rolls without raisens available. My favorite is the almond croissant. The breads are wonderful, too. They really make a sandwich something special. The biggest strength and biggest weakness is that their offerings rotate daily. Certain popular items are there every day, but some of our favorites are only offered once a week. I'd rather have that, though, than see their very diverse selection decline. Every time I go in, I see something new I want to try. The staff are uncannily helpful and pleasant but move the line quickly. The coffee is very good, too. I often grab a couple for me and my co-counsel on trial days. It makes the whole courtroom smell delicious. Snickerdoodle is my secret weapon. Around holidays, they have some impressive special order items, too. Daily Bread is part of the community. I get happy whenever I think about it. read more

I arrived early to my appointment, so I followed the smell to this bakery to have some breakfast. The blueberry muffins were so yummy. They would have been even better if they were warmed. It was very busy and my first time there, so I did not ask to have them warmed. I am not even sure that is an option. The coffee, on the other hand, was not impressive. The coffee area was dirty as well. I think it may have just been so busy that no one had a chance to clean up after the customers who were too rude to clean up after themselves. My visit here was prompted by a friend's recommendation after lunch next door at Cappycinnos. She said she'd treat me to a loaf of bread. The ordering area is vast, but there weren't many people (it was a weekday). I loved it... Just, clean, simple and streamlined. The samples on the counter help you make your decision. (They are cut up right in front of you--so fresh) and the loaf I finally decided on (you can opt either sliced or unsliced) was delicious. I had it the next morning, toasted with honey, and it had just the right amount of crunch, and sweetness. Oh, I shouldn't forget I had a cup of coffee there. I think this is one of the two best bakeries in San Antonio, the other being Bakery Lorraine. The bread is superb, the muffins and scones are the best in town, and the people who work there are passionate about what they do, and could not be more friendly. I have tried many of the Breads, Birdman is my favorite. Entirely whole grain and oats sweetened with honey or just the grains in the unsweetened version, this bread is excellent for sandwiches, or on it's own with olive oil with a good soup. They have too many other wonderful baked goods to list. They always have a large sample board so you can discover new favorites. We are spoiled because we can walk here, and doubly spoiled to even have a neighborhood bakery. Supporting local business makes your neighborhood a better place to live and commercial baked goods are no substitute. read more

I'd been told a few months ago to try this place out but hadn't gotten around to it. It seems that I always think about it on the two days that they're closed. (Go figure!) Today I decided I'd check it out for lunch. The location that I went to is on Dezavla (I believe North of I-10 across from a high school). All the sandwiches sounded delicious and are made with fresh baked bread! (Am I in Carb heaven?!) I chose the bacon sandwich (a BLT w/avocado). The sandwich was terrific. While standing at the counter, mouth watering over all the breads, cookies, muffins, cinnamon rolls, brownies and lemon bars back there.. I sampled the muffins. I ended up getting a chocolate cupcake. It was melt in your mouth good. I'm not sure why I waited so long to try this place out but I'll definitely not wait that long to go back! I'm sure the place is packed when the high school kids have lunch but I went about 1pm and summer is coming soon! They have a small area with tables and there's not a lot of parking but if that's the price I have to pay for a fresh, yummy sandwich... I'm game! read more

Could NOT disagree with you more on the Blueberry Muffin comment. It is without a doubt the largest, freshest and BEST. Filled with a multitude of blueberries. The best value for your money. Central Market, Bird Bakery and LoCal Coffee can't begin to compete with these baked goods.....all within walking distance of each other. AND, don't even get me started on Four*Bucks. read more

You guys still have it! Several years ago I was stationed at JBSA and would pick up goodies from Daily bread Broadway as well as from Olmos Perk. The lemon bars are delicious as are the various cookies and breads. We are back in town for training and grabbed a chocolate cake with a walnut frosting for someone's birthday and it was a huge hit. Cake was moist, a perfect blend of sweet and chocolate, with a unique, smooth, buttery walnut frosting that differentiates this from mass-produced commercial baked goods. This place is such a gem! The Snickerdoodle coffee is amazing black, and the blueberry muffins are awesome! As a vegan, you have to be choosy, but their food is so good! I walked in on a humid afternoon and was greeted by a super friendly cashier. She took my order for a cinnamon roll and I got a to go menu. I took a quick glance at their other items such as cookies,muffins and key lime bars. All looked delish. I went to one of the 2 tables to consume my cinnamon roll. It wasn't the best and it wasn't gargantuan like the big blob of sugar and dough served at Lulu's but bigger doesn't always mean better. I still think the best cinnamon rolls are the ones made at home. But BDB's cinnamon roll is superior to Lulu's and Guenther House. I just wish they were open later and on Sundays too. read more

Returned to San Antonio for a business trip and pretty much got a rental car just so I could eat here. I adore their cinnamon rolls--huge, perfectly baked (never overdone anywhere, never underdone in the middle), beautifully, frosted somewhere closer to generous than modest but the frosting does not overpower the lovely cinnamon flavor. Their Snickeroo coffee is lightly spiced and so fun with a dash of cream. Less than $5 for a coffee and a pastry. I filled a box to bring back to my colleagues--kolaches, muffins, cinnamon rolls--and was lauded as a bakery-hero. Love this place. I don't go here very often because I tend to frequent other bakeries that I deem to be "five star" places, but a very solid local bakery that I highly recommend. I really like their muffins. I try to avoid gluten so, again, my trips here are sort of limited but back when I used to eat a lot of wheat, I remember their muffings being kick a**.
