The chicken is awesome! I've only given 4 stars as I've yet to have the chicken/potatoes. The one time I was going to have it they had taken it away and all I heard was how great the chicken and potatoes were. When I get ahold of some no doubt I will give it 5 as I'm sure I'm going to love it. Just can't eat too much as I've had a prior heart attack (all ok now) but the raves about it make me want some. Best fried chicken I have ever eaten, period. Super moist and crispy. If you love fried chicken this is definitely worth a try. They also have mashed potatoes and gravy, which is pretty good and corn on the cob that comes individually wrapped in foil with tons of butter, even the coleslaw is good, and I don't like coleslaw. Came here for lunch today because I was craving fried chicken and Yelp brought us in here. This lil restaurant is located in a small strip mall & easy to find. There is a counter with pies & salads and a window looking into the kitchen where the food is prepped. You order first, pay & they bring the food out to you. I ordered the #3 that included 2 pieces of broasted chicken, dinner roll, a 2 huge potato wedges. The chicken was very tender & juicy with crispy skin. The seasonings were pretty good too. The dinner roll was nothing special. The potato wedges were huge. I like fries better... Drinks come in cans. The service was average but could have been better. The chicken was pretty good, but I wouldn't go out of my way for this. The prices were pretty reasonable for what you get. This is an old school broasted chicken place from back in the days when broasted chicken (fried under pressure) was as hot as the Kogi Truck. It hasn't changed in 40 years since Mary and her husband started this restaurant. Back in the day, it was amazing fried chicken and I just kept it as a memory for years rather than being a returning customer. Flash forward to my chicken quest. It was before closing and I was the last customer. Got fried chicken, mashed potatoes w/gravy, cole slaw, biscuits, and even had fried fish. It was ok, but what will be a memory for me is that after closing me and Mary (in her late 70's) had a nice talk. No one else was there and we talked about the past. About her husband who drove race cars, how they started the place to support the family, and then her husband's last years sitting in a chair in the restaurant while she worked before he passed with Alzheimer's. Fond memories of days past. I went back again the next day as I needed to love this place. I do, but food wise it's somewhat also of memories of days past. My rating reflects the food, but Mary and family are 5 star class all the way. read more

So a lot of people have this perception of "fried chicken", and think KFC, popeyes, or any other place has the BEST fried chicken. All covered in heavy breading. Well, I was the same way until one of my friends took me here! I was a little skeptical when he was saying that this is the Juiciest and Crispiest fried chicken I will ever taste! I was like...WTH is broasting a chicken? roasted? boiled? BBQ? well...after some google-ing, haha, It's pretty much "pressure frying" your chicken, and everyone knows when you pressure fry something you lock in the moisture and flavor into a chicken. So when we got our order, it was piping hot!! This was by far the BEST fried chicken in my life! It wasn't heavily breaded at all, probably a light coating of flour and some salt and pepper, but it was just amazing! My mouth is watering while I write this right now. Thank goodness this place is over an hour away from where I live or else I'd be driving here all the time! :) The people who own this place are such nice people and I'm definitely looking forward to coming back here again sooner, rather than later. read more

I agree that Tony C is wrong I tell ya!! The name is Broaster Kitchen.. not Pie Kitchen. This place is known for their chicken, not pies. My family and I have been customers for over 20 years and it is the best chicken I have EVER tasted. Always tasty, juicy and the skin is my favorite part because it's so crispy. This is the only place I will eat coleslaw from and the biscuits are soft and the best with honey. I am not much of a potato fan but these large wedges are crispy on the outside and soft inside and flavorful. I have introduced many family and friends to this place and they were all pleased. Best part is that it's cooked to order so it's always fresh. We always order the food to go. The portions are plentiful, the prices are very low and we have no complaints about the food. What are you yelpers thinking!?!?!? Gosh, I swear.... Sometimes I just want to smack these other yelpers who say something is so great when in reality it's really not. First of all, this is not the best broasted chicken ever and no it's not worth the drive unless you live down the street. It's ok at best but certainly not the best. Not enough flavor and not enough breading. I understand broasted chicken is usually not breaded heavily but least cover the entire piece. The wait was very long but they were kind enough to throw in some extra chicken. Not kind enough to let us know we forgot and left it on the table. The Mac and cheese were definitely artificial, like the nacho cheese you get at the movies. The fries definitely tasted fake, but they looked nice. The atmosphere definitely drab and old, needs some money to put in and love. I would not reccomend. The best broasted chicken I have to say is still Grandmas Chicken in Cypress. Excellent broasted chicken. We got the Yelp $10 for $15 deal. We got their 10&10 special for $13.49, which is 10 mixed pieces and 10 potato wedges. To make the limit, an order of onion rings ($1.79) was added. Essentially the meal costed us $11.33 total with tax. What a deal. Our family has been coming here for many years, however 1 out of 10 times there can be a bad experience. But overall this place is great in terms of their chicken. I don't recommend dinning in but take out is great. the mac salad is good and the custard pie is always a plus. The secret is that if the senior white haired lady (owner) is working in the kitchen you can expect the chicken done right if its the younger folks working in the kitchen its a coin flip. read more

This pains me to have to update this (because this has been such a "go to" place for chicken) but, unfortunately, I think there has been a change in management left and they've gone the way of downgrading their product. Smaller pieces ... not as flavorful. I would like to think this may have been an anomaly, but I didn't the familiar white-haired, little old lady doing the cooking. I've read quite a few reviews here about Broaster Chicken and there are not a lot of happy folks. I being one of them. The food was ok, it wasn't bad, maybe I went on a good day? The horrible experience came from the staff of Broaster Chicken, particularly the girl behind the counter. Wow, what a bitch! I asked for a #1 and then she asked "anything else?" I replied with (I looked around for a fountain machine or what they offered by quickly glancing at the menu and didn't know what to order, but most places have fountain drinks so I just said "a coke"?. She answered back very rudely with "what!?". I said "Coke". I guess since I was looking around she assumed I thought I was getting a "cup" for a fountain drink so she replied with "we only have "canned" drinks" while pointing down to the display. I looked down and there sitting in the display was a "coke". So I said, "ok Coke". Geez really? Anyway, I proceeded to place my credit card on the counter and she said, "we only accept cash here". I told her that "you guys need to get with the times...you know, "technology". She seemed to agree. I walked out and went next door to get some cash. Now, when I returned and placed a $20 dollar bill on the counter she said sarcastically "oh, we have cash..." or something like that. At this point I was like wow. Anyway, after ringing me up she took the receipt, held it up, and let it fall to the counter. She didn't even hand it to me or say anything such a "Thank you!". I again said "wow". She is young and immature and it's obvious she hates working there. So I waited for my food and after about what seemed to be 10 minutes I got my order. I was a bit suspicious about what I was going to eat since my encounter with her wasn't a very good one so I checked my food very well. It wasn't bad, to me it was just regular old fried chicken. The cole slaw was good, the potato wedges were huge, but nothing special. All in all the food was average, nothing I'd return for a on regular basis, but it wasn't a horrible experience except for the immature vag behind the counter. I came here to find out what "broasted" chicken was. This place has been open for years so I would assume there is a loyal following that goes other than when i did during the week at lunchtime?? The menu is simple and all meals are very cheap. I kinda like that.I hear the pies are homemade and tasty. All meals are made to order so be prepared to wait. Most of the food is fried (or broasted so they call it). The little restaurant was a bit greasy as there was broast all over the floor and on the table and in the air. After eating here and making my way through the greasy broast cloud to the door I still cannot figure out how that WASN'T just cheap fried chicken! read more

I'd give an extra star for the price but didn't want to deceive yall. it would be about 3 stars for the food. Broaster chicken is basically pressure cooked chicken vs. the more unhealthy deep fried. We were really excited to try this place. The place is a little back-in-time feeling with vintage farmhouse antiques decked all over the walls. Homemade pies looked straight from Home and Gardens magazine; it was beautiful but I didn't try any. The broasted potatoes were flavorless and a bit boring; the broasted chicken was good but just a little bit burnt for my taste. I love that it was not like chicken on steroids and it definitely looked like real chicken vs. the stuff you get from the big chains. The coleslaw and mashedpotatoes with gravy did me good! The order took awhile to arrive which I didn't mind because I'd rather it be fresh. They also had a very limited selection of drinks so I just went next door to the liquor store for that. The prices are phenomenal so I would come back definitely for my fried chicken fix.... but less guilty ;) read more

On a friday evening, I ordered 18 wings and fries for 1.92, Yelp 10 for 15 deal. - Cheap deal. Special! 6 wings for 4.69. (usually .99 for 1). French Fries. 1.49 - Chicken is hot, crispy, and tender! Great flavor. Not salty - Surprisingly not too greasy. You'd have to wrap a napkin with Popeyes chicken, but not here. I actually ate every bit. Better than KFC and Churches. Even Roscoes! The chicken is delicious - not greasy, flavorful and moist. So why no five star rating. Maybe I'm just out of touch with the times, but I thought it was a touch expensive considering the size of the chicken pieces. I got a family 8 piece for $23. Plus tax. Wedges were delicious too. The only thing I didn't like was the coleslaw which seemed plain and unseasoned. There's also a really bad smell of stale oil in the restaurant so I think they may need better filtration system in the kitchen, but overall, good tasty chicken and wedges. read more

It is rare that i write a negative review however I feel obligated to let others know of my recent experience with them. We purchased roasted chicken, rolls , home fries and coleslaw from them for our Xmas dinner. The only decent item was the coleslaw. The chicken was over roasted/burnt , you could sense it was not freshly made. The fries were bland and had absolutely no flavor at all. Even the fries at your local Albertsons taste a world better than these. The rolls were straight out of the bag and were not cooked or heated up in any way. The overall taste of the dinner was lacking to say the least. Absolutely no flavor at all. Others @ our dinner also remarked at how bland the food was. It is a shame because on paper Roasted chicken with fries, coleslaw and rolls SOUNDS delicious! You are best to keep looking here. I do not want others to spend their hard earned money and get little return for it . Hopefully they pick it up soon. =). read more

Great fried (excuse me "Broasted") chicken and potato wedges. Crispy on the outside and moist & fresh on the inside. It is all cooked to order, no bins of pre-cooked chicken that they pull pieces out of. But since is cooked to order, take out takes about 15-20 minutes, if there is no line. So phone ahead if you can. Really good pies too. This is basically a take-out place, while there are a few table to the side. It is basically hot and sticky. No air conditioning. Broaster Kitchen has been around for years. They cook the chicken when you order, in a Broaster, which is sort of like pressure cooking and frying at the same time. This isn't something you can make at home, due to needing specialized and trademarked equipment. It makes some of the best chicken you'll ever have. I'm talking, juicy, fall off the bone, crispy. So much better than fast food chicken. I don't think many people are familiar with Broasting, but it makes all the difference! The decor needs an update, and last time I went, they were changing up a few things to modernize it. The restaurant is always clean and the service is friendly. Management is top notch and family run. Lots of good sides and pies. I had the coleslaw and it was one of the best I've had. If you're looking for some good chicken or to impress your foodie friends, this is definitely worth a stop. read more

my boyfriend and his family have come here for years and lately we've all been impartial to it because there's better fried chicken out there these days. today will definitely be our last visit because i received the worst customer service i've ever experienced here (this was not the first time but the worst by far. they're always getting our order wrong too lol). i made a phone order for a planned dinner so i can just pick up and go but when i came in they messed up and charged me for the wrong family meal so i was missing some potatoes. i went back in and explained the situation, got it refunded and recharged, then waited 10 minutes for the rest of my food which wasn't a problem because i expect this from this place now lol. the second time they charged me the meal was correct but somehow they didn't charge me for the side i originally ordered and so when i got to my car the second time i was so frustrated that i was STILL missing food. they made two careless mistakes and now i'm having to go back and forth from my car to the restaurant to explain the situation over and over. the second time i went in, the owner came out and just could not understand my frustration and didn't even offer an apology so of course my patience was running thin. she wanted to charge my card for the third time and i asked her if i could just have the side of missing coleslaw for the inconvenience but she accused me of coming back in just for free food lol the audacity. mind you i was in a hurry and this whole ordeal wasted 30 minutes of my time. i ended up walking out frustrated and unsatisfied with the service of everyone i encountered here today. never coming back and i hope nobody has to experience the same service that i did. apart from that, like i said, the food has been going downhill over the years. the potatoes are unseasoned and the chicken is lacking flavor. at this point i'd much rather drive a littler further for better quality food. if you've never tried this place, i wouldn't want you to waste your time here. read more

The chicken is so bomb... but that's it. The cole slaw was literally just shredded cabbage with no other ingredients. Maybe they served from the wrong container that wasn't prepared yet that day I got it but it was literally just shredded cabbage. And the potato was alright but had no flavor/ seasoning just a fried potato wedge. The chicken was so juicy and moist and honestly pretty fricken delicious. If I could give Broasted Kitchen 10 stars I would. I ordered a 50 piece chicken party pack with spuds, coleslaw, and dinner rolls for our Christmas party of 20 people yesterday. The food was absolutely delicious. My husband picked up the food just before the party. We followed Mike, the owner's oven heating direction and kept the chicken and spuds warm to serve. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. The spuds, coleslaw, and dinner rolls were fantastic. We live in La Mirada and travel a distance to Broasted Kitchen in Montebello because frankly, there's nothing in La Mirada, nor Whittier, that can top the Broasted Kitchen food quality and wonderful customer service they provide. In the past years, I've ordered their catering menu for a school staff Christmas party, and even our 41st wedding anniversary party last April plus other events throughout the years. Broaster Kitchen is another one of those rare lovely Broasted Chicken places. located off the 60fwy exit on Atlantic and right on Beverly... you just keep driving down till you hit Beverly and Maple. I have been coming here off and on because this spot is where my family would go to pick up chicken when I visit Monterey Park. I kinda forgot about this place...it has been at least a year or so since I have come here... and for me this is the closest Broasted Chicken spot from where I work in Downtown Los Angeles, and boy oh boy do I love my Broasted Chicken! This place makes a pretty good batch of Broasted Chicken and in all honesty it isn't very hard so the flavor and quality from what I run into is pretty much the same between all these different spots...I don't know if there is such a thing as Broasted Chicken being flavored differently?....the only thing I do know is this is what that Louisiana Chicken Hot Sauce is meant for...fried chicken is too salty... price wise I think they are a little more pricey than the Grandma's Chicken spot located by my house. like i get a 12 piece chicken dinner at Grandma's for about $19.00 that come with rolls, a pint of salad, and potato wedges. For the same food it cost me about $25.00 at Broaster. of course that is neither here nor there since I would only goto to Grandma's when I am in O.C. and Broasters is closest to my work in L.A. There is something to be said about all the Broasted Chicken places I have been though...and that is I THINK that because of the broasting process and pressure cookers....these places all seem to be..."sticky" you know like when you cook alot of greasy things in your kitchen? Since however this seems to be the case in every one of these types of food joints that serve this style chicken...I am going to go out on a limb and say they are pretty much all like this..and will not hold that against this place. the rolls aren't too hot and by hot I mean temperature AND taste ....but I didn't come here for the rolls. they have other things on the menu...fish, shrimp, burgers and sandwiches...they also sell whole and slices of pie. they looked good but I did not buy any. the staff were cool...not overly friendly...but not rude....the area is probably not horrible...but always find it not as friendly when i find pictures of "wanted" suspects hanging on the windows.. oh and they had a help wanted sign up when I went....anyone need a job? the chicken does get a 4 star....but that is kind of easy since I am already a fan of this kind of chicken. although the ambiance of the place really deserves only a 3 star at best. still great chicken though.....I love Chicken....CHICKEN!!!! read more

Just for those who don't know... BROASTED chicken is basically chicken breaded and seasoned, then put into a pressure cooker to fry in its NATURAL oils. Which is far healthier than fried chicken. Okay. So I have came back to this place to give it a shot, since I never got to try the food. I went to order my food.. I used the yelp deal $10 for $15. I ordered the 10pcs dark meat for 9.98! Are you kidding me? That's cheap! They actually gave me an extra piece. So I got 11. I then ordered a pint of Mac and cheese and an order of onion rings. Everything came out to be around $16.39. I only paid an extra $1.39 for all my food which isn't bad at all. They cook to order so there is a wait if you don't call in to order and instead order there. It was my first time so I wanted to see a menu. The wait was about 20 minutes, not too bad. The girl in the front named Corinne (I believe?) was so nice! She talked to me the whole time and the time seemed to fly by. On to the food: Mac and cheese - was very cheesy but delicious. Onion rings - LOOKED a little burnt.. Was a little dark.
