Great food and service! Our waitress, Tina, was awesome! Great breakfast. Convenient location!

What good are credentials if you don't flash 'em where they're good for a good word? I've managed the most profitable glamping resort in the US for years and spent over a decade FOH/BOH/Managing Restaurants in DFW. That to say I will notice many small things that could improve that most don't, and that's okay. They aren't red flags, just most places aren't perfect and could be better. Put simply: Our Saturday Morning brunch at Broken Yolk could not have been better for us. If you are checking the reviews like a discerning customer or an prospective employee, don't miss this place for either. Food, Service, Atmosphere, Management top notch. Put more complicated for anybody who cares to read a novel: The website says this restaurant started in 1979 and blew up after a 2009 Travel Channel episode about it. This chain is in McKinney off of 121 in one of those tucked away entertainment shopping centers that have been springing up like weeds along that highway - there's ALOT of places to choose from for brunch and I was content to go to first watch again - comfort in the known versus the unknown, ya know? A few weeks ago we left a patio brunch before even getting beverages because I noticed the table hadn't been wiped down at all that day (overnight layer of dirt) and there was visible food bits on the water glasses - so I was precarious about another new place. But my wife was adamant we go to this place she had gone recently with her brother. As per usual, my wife was right. this place was a treat and the "District 121" pop-up center was a standout amongst the many copycats as enjoyable to meander, safe for my 4-year-old to play, and a huge screen and stage in front of a crowd of Adirondack chairs for events and art installations. It was playing the Ohio State game which was pretty neat - Dallas sports games here would probably be great. Friendly faces and accommodating hostesses greeted us. Three at the hostess stand at one point, friendly and chatting occasionally but not inappropriately so and did not appear to make anybody feel neglected or ignored. Short wait but easy text system. Plenty to check out on a stroll around "District 121" No sense of annoyance when it took a moment for us to gather our 4-year old back to the hostess stand once we received the "your table is ready" text. A few unoccupied tables while we waited but not so much it would be noticed by a layman - sign of a well-managed floor to limit filling the house for the sake of FOH and/or BOH quality. Clean table/glasses/menus and daughter already had a kid's drawing menu with crayons before I could ask. Our server, Hailey, was exemplary. She was well-spoken and polite; gracious and patient with our 4-year old as she ordered; knowledgeable about the menu and well-practiced at her check-in times. I would not be surprised to see her in a Hospitality/Service Industry management role soon and it would be well deserved. We will be coming back asking for her but will not be disappointed to hear that she has been promoted. The manager (cannot recall her name, apologies!) was pleasant and did the appropriate table-touch. Things were going so smoothly that I was slightly surprised to have a manager come by at all knowing the FOH was so well taken care of by her staff. I made sure to mention how exemplary Hailey was and she directed me here. I indicated that if there was a way to contact her higher ups in a way that might have more impact than a Yelp review to let me know - so if this genuinely gets reviewed by the corporate entity in any capacity please consider reaching out so that I may do so. From the brief check-in and my peak hours customer experience, she runs a tight ship in a way that seems effortless and fun. Everyone's vibe was uplifting, light, and overall positive. One of the employees cleaning, I assume a variation of busser, already seemed to be enjoying his work but smiles when I thanked him both times that he covertly walked by and broomed up a bit of dirt under the edge of our table. The FOH staff seemed focused yet casual, efficient yet not pressed. In my professional experience, you would not only be hard-pressed to find the SI work culture that this manager has cultivated, you would find the task impossible. She deserves all the accolades and attention from higher ups that it merits. Last, but not least. The Food. Rarely do you find a gem of a menu with unique, bold flavor profiles that offers both variety and comfort foods. Both the Bar and Kitchen have clearly been created with passion and food science. The seasonal Chicken & Corn Pancakes were cooked to perfection and could have been mistaken for a Low Country/Gullah creation by Sean Brock if you add real country ham. Kudos to whomever deserves it. House bloody mary flavor profile is evidently somebody's labor of love and the flight was a delight, Latte was stellar, had to add the Cheesy Grits once I saw them and their texture was sublime. My family and I came here during their soft opening and will DEFINITELY be back. Draya was our server, and she did an amazing job! Draya was friendly, provided great recommendations and service, and overall made the dining experience fantastic. Our orders came out in a reasonable amount of time, given how new and busy the establishment was. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and checked in on us. The food is also delicious! I had the Wild West Burger, and it was perfectly cooked. The burger and toppings were flavorful and tasted fantastic. The "messy" latte is messy (caramel around rim and glass) but tasted good as well. The decor and vibe inside create a welcoming feeling that feels fresh, friendly, and charming. I highly recommended Broken Yolk it's a great breakfast/brunch/lunch place. read more

I know the place is pretty new and I understand the waiting game. I am a very patient person. It takes 45 mins to wait for your table. When we were seated we have to wait another 15 mins to place our order and an additional 45 mins to wait for our food. Service was kinda of slow. Went here for lunch with my wife, I got a good morning burger and my wife got the soup salad sandwich combo. The food was good, the burger bun was massive compared to the patty and looked more impressive than actually was. the eggs on the burger were overcooked for what I'd like. Drinks were ok. Service was good and friendly. Overall great place for a quick lunch but not a lunch date per se. Going to come back to try their breakfast at some point read more

Broken Yolk has a special place in our hearts since we loved the one in San Diego. Moving here, found this one near our house was a pleasant surprise. But what a disappointment! I was here with 3 other friends from Highschool, and our server took immediate notice and made sure to make us feel comfortable and taking our time to catch up. In spite of the restaurant being clearly busy, she (named Tina) checked in on us very regularly and was super friendly and joking with us a lot. She made sure we were constantly doing well, even letting us exchange one of our mimosas in the flight we got for another kind of mimosa. Those mimosas were pretty great, I should add. Now, the food I ordered was just okay, but I still gave it 4 stars instead of 3 because I could tell I just ordered the wrong thing. The quality of the food was still very great, and was prepared perfectly. I just should have ordered something different. I had so much trouble deciding because too many things looked and sounded good on such a large menu. I got the pick 2 benedicts option, and I loved that you could try two in one sitting. I tried to look at their website menu so I could tell you which ones I got but the online menu was different. I couldn't find the ones I had. The one I enjoyed more was a more traditional benedict, but it had avocado as well. The other had fried chicken on it. Again, the food was pretty good, I just ordered wrong for myself on that day. It happens, can't blame the restaurant. The food was still enjoyable and quality regardless. The place itself was also really cute and well lit. Ambiance is nice but the most crucial part of a restaurant is the food and that is where it really falls short. My wife had the chicken and waffles and the chicken was bland and not well seasoned. Beautiful location and nice open air concept. Has the chicken fried steak which was cooked just right and layered with a nice hefty serving of thick gravy. Also had a side of Mexican fried rice and a blueberry muffin. I highly recommend going for a blueberry muffin. It is to die for. We were served quickly and food came out fast and piping hot! The menu is impressive... a lot of choices. Maybe too many. It seems that our server was a little distracted as well by all the options. There were additional charges for substitutions that I feel we should have been informed about. Another thing that bothered me was that one of the servers took away our Chalupa hot sauce for another table. Didn't bother asking if we were using it which we were. The food came out very quickly. This was my first time at the Broken Yolk Cafe. When my wife and I walked in, we were greeted by two friendly hostesses. Everything looked so good on the menu, so I appreciated our waiter John being patient and giving us suggestions. The food was fresh, big, and delicious.
