I've lived in San Diego since 1991 and have never been to a broken yolk until today. I had high hopes because they claim to be the best breakfast in San Diego county. I ordered the American breakfast with two eggs over easy, bacon, hashbrowns and an English muffin. The eggs and bacon were very greasy. The hashbrowns, although there were a lot of them, we're not crispy. The English muffin also was not crispy, It had the texture of a limp sponge. I won't be back. You can get the same breakfast at Denny's, and they include pancakes for 1/3 of the price. $15 for what I got was way overpriced. read more

Tried again after not having a good first experience and again both my husband and I felt the breakfast was subpar. Almost anywhere else beats this place. The place is really going downhill. I kept trying to give it opportunities, but I think I'm done. Fake processed cheese on a $14 omelette was the final nail. The biscuits and gravy can with two tiny sausages, it was disappointing. Prices are high and food isn't great. I've been to a few of the Broken Yolk locations in San Diego. You always come out with lots of food good service, and a fun breakfast atmosphere. But this time was exceptional. Beautiful new location in Carlsbad, excellent service, and a guaranteed food coma. Our server Ben was extremely attentive, and he even offered to top off my girlfriend's dry biscuits with gravy. Brought the family here on a Wednesday morning. There was no wait and it was moderately busy. The server Alison was great. She kept the coffee coming and made sure my grumpy kids got their food first without us even having to ask. The food was delicious! I had the John Wayne omelette and my wife had the Cali Eggs Benedict. Our meals took a minute to come out but it was worth the wait as it was all hot and yummy. Great place for brunch. read more

Thomas was our server and he was nice. The food however was horrible. I had the chicken fried steak and couldn't even cut thru it. Another person brought my blueberry muffin and pretty much just handed it to me while I was in the middle of taking a bite of my food instead of putting on the table. I want to share what a fantastic experience I had today. Our server Tarissa and food runner Christine were a perfect example of exemplary service. We arrived at 11 am on a Sunday, probably the worst time to go I know... We were seated within 10 minutes which was surprising given the fact they were slammed. Tarissa was so upbeat and nice, she brightened my day instantly. We placed our order and Christine brought it out in less than ten minutes. She was just as cheerful and sweet as Tarissa. Completely and honestly disappointed. Service was just on this side of ok. I had to ask twice for several things, and we constantly had to chase our waitress down for a refill of coffee and water. She never came back to check if put food was ok (my son's steak was not.) He ate what he could and we took the rest home. I was very sad when I walked into this restaurant. I was leaving a really fun vacation with my daughter and granddaughter...whom I don't get to see very often. I didn't think anything could cheer me up but maybe a hot breakfast and a mimosa. Much to my surprise I met Nick. I'm not sure if I have met anyone with his positivity! Horrible service, dirty dishes. I have always ALWAYS loved the broken yolk. I have been going to the original PB location for years...anytime I am close to one it is my first choice. The broken yolk in Vista is disgusting. I've tried so hard each time I have been to this location, to have an open mind about it Today was the last straw. First let me say we did not eat here this time for this review. The reason is we were told the patio was too wet and was a work hazzard. Now it has rained the night before but I found this absolutely ridiculous. Why someone could not have mopped up the outside patio to make it safe is beyond me. This place is totally overrated. I've been twice, once on a weekend a couple of months ago, and on a weekday this week. Service was average the first time, non-existent the second time. When I day non-existent, I mean I wasn't even served. I was seated, given a menu, and then sat there for 10 minutes. No one came by to ask if I wanted coffee, water, or if I was ready to order. I went back to the front and gave back the menu, as I had to head in to work. The host said "someone called in sick". It's a weekday, and there were only two other tables seated in the whole restaurant. How does one person calling out affect it that much, especially when there's two employees standing around the front host area. Whatever. Especially for the prices they charge, this place isn't worth the time, the food is not that good (the one time I actually got to eat). These high ratings I see in the area (Oceanside/Carlsbad) sort of baffle me. I see 4-plus star ratings for restaurants that wouldn't get 2 stars in other places/states that I've lived in. We went at 10 this morning and waited only 10 minutes to be seated. Server was prompt and friendly and we started with a Bloody Mary. Not the best as it seemed watered down and we detected no vodka. Coffee also tasted bland. We ordered the John Wayne omelette that had chili, cheese, onions and mushrooms but we declined on the mushrooms. Food was served very quickly however appearance was not too appealing. Sourdough toast pieces were small and dry especially the heal of the loaf which was tiny. Hash browns looked like a pile of greasy potatoes and did not taste good. The omelette was not good at all either with part of the eggs undercooked, too many white onions, chili that looked like it came from a can, and the cheese seemed artificial. We expected a better quality meal and will never order this omelette again. read more

So my very first experience at any Broken Yolk. I was surprised at the wide variety of food choices that they did have here. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs and my wife had ordered the Tiki toast. My food was alright nothing too special and it did need some salt but my wife's was amazing. The coconut crust that covers the french toast was delicious. I will say that I does seem alittle pricey but they do have very good portion sizes for their prices. We got my kids something off the kids menu and I could of sworn it was an adult meal which was great because my kids can eat. I also order chocolate chip pancakes which were alright but again they were huge. My only complaint was we were waiting on some friends when we had gotten seated and were waiting for them to order and it seem like our waitress was being impatient with us but aside from that, the food was fast which I would never complain about.
