So this was the first time to Broken Yolk, Oceanside. Upscale Denny's in my opinion. It's a great looking place inside, don't get me wrong, but I sure do value those smaller, mom and pop places. I had my 2 kids and I felt totally lost inside this place. Nothing "warm and genuine" about it. We were seated quite quickly, but no server came to greet us or say, "Hi, I'll be right there." Lots of employees bustling around and passing us (and i still had my menu at the table), but no stopped. So I finally asked a server if she could help us. With that being said, she did. However, it was not a very comforting feeling. It was more like that, "rush, rush, uh can you hurry up your ordering 'cause I'm busy feeling." I had the Eggplant, Roasted Pepper, Onion, Sprout & Goat Cheese Pannini. Sounded so good on a cold day. We'll it was nothing exciting either. Bread was VERY Dry. The flavor of the whole thing just wasn't there. I'll stick to Panera for my Pannini from now on. The kids had kid cheeseburgers one with fries and the other with fruit. Fries were those thick rippled ones. They were very soft. My son did not care for them, he likes the shoestring kind right out of the fryer. The other one came with fruit. Nice serving of fresh fruit. Our table went un-bussed the entire time we sat there. No one offered to take our empty dishes. Even when our waitress came to pick-up payment AND drop change for the check did she not once ask if she could clear some of the dishes. All in all it was less than just an okay visit. The orange juice didn't taste fresh squeezed, in fact it seemed as though it hadn't been properly refrigerated as supposedly directed. I'd seen so many ads for the place and with the logo so cute I had high expectations-- something like hole in the wall fantastic with the standardized chain feel. Nutella Banana Crepes!!! Soooo good! Get them! I've gone out to eat at this location, and the other ones in Oceanside as well. I've never been disappointed. They can get very busy, service can get slow, and the quality of the food can be sacrificed..so that is not good. But I still come back for those Nutella Banana Crepes, and occasionally the California Breakfast Burrito (which is way too big, so you should share!) They also serve mimosas of all kinds, which has been for some good memories with me and my fiends in the summer. read more

The Broken Yolk Café on vista in Oceanside is going downhill since they changed the menu a couple of weeks ago. They had a bacon spinach and asparagus omelette I think was called the BSA which I loved that they no longer have. I ordered the Mama omelette instead and it came tasteless and was terrible. Today I ordered the chicken and waffles Benedict everything was overcooked and came cold. The service is still good, don't have to wait long even if it's on a weekend. The waiters and waitresses are very personable. Tiki toaster is still on the menu I'm hoping it is as good as it ever was. read more

Edit: 11/5 Worst service I've had. Ever. Let me start with my boyfriend never gets why I love this place so much and I got him to come with me this morning, once we are seated it took over 10 minutes to put just a drink order in, we decided to put in our food order too since it was busy. About 30 minutes later, servers bring half of the food for our party, when we still hadn't gotten our drinks. I told the servers we were still waiting on our drinks and we had a lot more food and they just said "ok" and left. Another 10 minutes go by and we're still just sitting there, half of our party (4 people) without our food, and still no drinks. At this point we're all really annoyed, so I go up to the counter and ask for a supervisor. Tell him what's going on and unapologetically tells us that they "couldn't find the glasses for the mimosas" so that's why it was taking so long..? But no explanation for the food still not coming? And no apology.. I go back and sit down and 5 minutes later the mimosas come, still no explanation for half of our food still missing. Server leaves to go "find" the rest of our food, a couple minutes go by and a different server comes and asks if "they forgot the food or just messed it up"... told him it was forgotten and then another couple minutes go by and the food finally comes. At this point everything is cold. And we still have gotten no apology from anyone. I'm assuming they would have maybe comped a mimosa or at least apologized (I wouldn't be writing this if I would have gotten an apology or acknowledgement of their mess up). Next time you run out of glasses, tell your table. We would have just said forget it. Next time you forget a table's food, apologize. Next time you do both of those things, comp the table something. My wife and I were traveling from Portland, OR to Temecula, CA & on 13 June, 2018 we stopped for breakfast at this Broken Yolk. This was the best meal experience of our 2 weeks on the road! (3 a day for 14 days= 42 meals) I am a disabled vet, in a wheelchair, and need easy access and seating room for my chair. First, the entry way was wide, and we were greeted happily at the door by Dalton. He got us seated quickly, making sure I was comfortable. He was professional, fast, friendly, and took care to make us feel welcome. Our server was ok, but more than a bit slow, not excellent...... very busy with a large group. Fortunately for us, another server, Molly, came by our table while caring for her other guests, and got us drink refills, asked about food quality, suggested desserts, got us extra napkins, and did what a good server is supposed to do! The food was well prepared, delicious, and obviously "fresh & hot". Thanks to Molly, it hadn't been left under the heat lamps. Everyone can have a bad day, be slow or tired or distracted, even the manager. But on the day we were there, the manager Jim was helping with tables, even cleaning them. Yes, praise in public, reprimand in private, but you as a customer don't know how much grief a manager has gotten from the staff or from customers about the staff. A good rule of thumb, if the food is bad, tell the head cook, they can fix it. If the food is good, go there to eat a lot, and watch the people. If they don't perform, tell the manager, let him or her sort it out. If the manager is at fault, tell corporate, let them fix it. And if none of that suits you, don't go back. Spend your money where you feel cared for and appreciated as a customer. read more

The servers were really nice, but forgetful. the food was not that great at all. I ordered the regular French toast but the toast was soggy. My friend ordered a fruit bowl and they gave him the bottom of the cantaloupe with nothing on it. I also ordered a western Benedict and it was subpar. My partner and I drove down to Oceanside today (from Long Beach) to see an old friend who was in town for the holidays visiting his Mom. We planned to go to a different restaurant for breakfast, but there was a long line waiting at that place..so, his Mom suggested The BROKEN YOLK CAFE. I was initially impressed with the size of the place, the modern, clean decor, and was VERY impressed with the efficiency of the entire STAFF. Even though this restaurant was almost full, we got a table right away, and put in our orders after making our selections from the enticing menus. I initially thought the prices were a little high..but, the pictures in the menu hinted that the food was going to be worth it. One thing I noticed right away...and then was annoyed by, was the MANY large screen televisions hanging all over the place everywhere you look. None of them had the volume on, and none had closed captions...so...what was the point??? I GO TO A RESTAURANT TO EAT AND TALK WITH FRIENDS..NOT TO WATCH TV!!! Then, in a very timely manner...our food was delivered to our table. THAT'S WHEN MY HAPPY FACE TURNED UPSIDE DOWN. I ordered the Turkey wrap, and asked for potato salad as my side. I also ordered a blueberry muffin on the side after my friends Mom ordered one...it sounded like a nice idea. WRONG! My muffin was brought out first, grilled, like I had asked...but......it was SO SMALL...I actually joked by saying......"where's the rest of it"? This tiny muffin was served on possibly the biggest dinner plate I had ever seen...making it seem even more miniscule. I decided to stop joking/complaining, and began to eat the muffin crumb (3 bites..it was gone). It sucked!!! It was about as big as one of those blueberry muffins you would get at Soup Plantation....except the ones at Soup Plantation actually taste good. This piece of shit muffin was $1.69. Do any of you remember your Mom buying that CHEAP (.25 cents a box-back in the day) muffin mix at the grocery store called JIFFY???? With the fake blueberry bits.......it was worse than one of those. Ok..back to the Turkey Wrap. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. The menu pictured a turkey wrap made with a red tortilla. I was served a green turkey wrap...with very little BARGAIN BASEMENT cold-cut turkey product...a few tiny pieces of avocado..tomato, and lettuce. The turkey was gone after 2 bites...leaving me with 3 bites left of tortilla and lettuce.....I asked them to leave out the sprouts...but, still found a few in my WRAP....Gross! This crap cost almost $10.00????????????? Really???? I would have enjoyed a peanut butter and jelly at home 10 times more. The (very) small portion of potato salad that came with the wrap was also a joke. Picture the crap you get at Albertson's deli...for $1.99 a pound...but, worse. I hoped beyond hope that it would be homemade potato salad...but...it was totally storebought...probably from a 20 lb container from some generic restaurant supplier. YUCK. My partner ordered a mushroom burger with onion rings...and said it was average..nothing special. I think that at almost $10.00, a burger should be special.... This was nothing but a glorified, expensive Denny's.......actually.....I'd prefer Denny's if I had to choose between the two...and I hate Denny's. Save your money...and go elsewhere. Our order didn't come entirely just in pieces and it took forever so we were starving. The only reason I am only giving this restaurant 1 star is because the manager did try to rectify the problem by comping our meal. However that still doesn't make this place good. First the service was awful, they didn't speak very good English so that was kind of a bummer, 2nd it took forever for our food while waiting the server never did check back to see if we needed refills. Lastly, once our food did arrive my sons grilled cheese was so well done he just stabbed it with a fork because it was too hard to eat. My daughters cheeseburger that I had ordered medium well came out very well done, their french fries were good. My omelette had old hard cheese( like the stuff that is not refrigerated properly), and no sauce and the hash browns were raw... Finally tracked down the server to send it back and asked for the new order to be placed in a to go box, the order and box sat in the window for over 15 minutes. When I did get it out to my car it still had no sauce, this had no cheese and the hash browns were burnt on top, greasy and raw underneath, I returned it to the counter inside. I am happy to report that this was an absolutely wonderful experience, and I did not inform anyone that I was there. I visited on a very busy Holiday, and wow was I was surprised. This place is now running like a very well-oiled machine. The wait time was short, the service was prompt and efficient, the food was outstanding, and it actually looked like the photos on the menu. I will definitely be back and am thrilled that the problems I experienced previously have been more than corrected. Thank you for a wonderful experience!! I wish there was a rating less than 1 star. This place is awful! Showed up VERY hungry, the wait was reasonable considering it was Sunday morning at 10am. We were seated and our drinks, and that's where everything started going down hill. It took a good 15 minutes for our waitress to even come over and say hello, even though she had walked by our table quite a few times. We ordered and then waited another 20 minutes for food. I had asked if it was possible for them to poach the egg on my eggs benidict "medium to well" because i didnt want runny eggs. Some places wont cook them that way so thats why i asked. She assured me they could. When we finally got our food, i cut into my eggs and yoke spills out all over everything, including my side of fruit. Would have sent it right back, but our waitress was no where to be found. So i told the people i was with to go ahead and start eating. 10 Minutes later the waitress finally stopped at our table and asked how everything was. I told her i hate to complain (as ive worked in restaurants and i know sometimes these things happen), but the eegs were way too under cooked. She first tries to tell me that its hard to tell if theyre cooked medium without cutting into them, and would i like the cooks to do that when they re-cook it. I said no, just ask them if its possible to poach them medium. Then she asks if i wanna keep my fruit, which has egg yoke on it...yuck! So another 15 minutes go by and she comes by to tell me my food is almost done, and it;ll be right out. 10 minutes later she comes back and tells me they havent even started my food because they had seated a party of 30 so it would probably be another half an hour or so for my food. Call me crazy but everywhere ive worked in fod service, fixing a mistake takes priority over new orders. By this time the people i was with had already finished eating, and she asked if maybe id just like some fruit and toast cause that wouldnt take too long, She comped our meal, which was good news for the people i was with because they got exactly what they ordered, no food for almost 2 hours and then some fruit and toast. Clearly, when i ordered eggs benidict, what i really wanted was fruit and toast!! Drive the extra few miles and go to the one in La Costa... leaps and bounds better than this place!! read more

I have been here a few times before, and the other times were alright. I just placed an order to go, and had to throw away my food. I ordered the Veggie omlete and all the veggies were raw not even cooked at all, including the onions!! Also it said it came with sliced avocado inside, in mine it came with a whole avocado just thrown in! Also because they didnt package it right once I put the bags in my car, the thing of gravy poured out all over my car. will not be returning to this location. I was really hoping the food here would be good, because it's close to where I live. When we first walked in, we were impressed with the atmosphere and how well it was decorated. We checked in with the host who said there'd be about a 20 minute wait. So we looked over the menu to see what they had to offer. About 5 minutes later we were seated. Awesome! The restaurant was very busy and loud. It's great that they have tvs to watch the games on throughout the restaurant. I ordered the California breakfast burrito, which is one of their star items. When it arrived, it looked delicious and I couldn't wait to eat it! HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!! The potatoes in it were barely cooked, bacon was just disgusting with no flavor. The best part was the cheese and avocado. Sad. It comes with a side of rice and beans, both not good at all. My boyfriend ordered eggs and hashbrowns with bacon and toast. Needless to say, the toast was his favorite part. After he tried to eat some more off his plate, he noticed a hair in the hashbrowns. We were pretty much disgusted and decided to never go back by that point. The manager was out earlier when we arrived, but did not see him when we left or we would've probably stopped to tell him. We arrived to have brunch on Saturday and left with an unpleasant experience. We were informed that the wait was 5-10minutes. It was 20minutes. At 15minutes, our table was "being cleared". At 20minutes, our table was "being set". There were many people seated before us. We arrived at the patio table and there was a fork in my wife's seat. There was one waitress for the entire patio. She was picking up checks and taking orders. There may have been more waiting staff, but they were not present. A customer next to us was waiting for the waitress to pick up her check, but got up to take it herself. We sat for 15minutes. My wife noticed customers seated after us being waited upon first. We decided to leave and I notified the staff about the lack of service. I wrote a letter to the company to have more waiting staff on busy days. I omitted my phone number to prevent some poor rep from apologizing for something that they did not do and to offer another return unpleasant experience. It is better to go to Denny's, two blocks away and have much better parking and service. Their address is 2273 El Camino Real in the Target shopping center. We are definitely, not coming back. I used to get a breakfast burrito with beans and rice. Ordered a breakfast burrito this time and got... A burrito. That's it.
