I should've known by the lackluster decor. But like Robert A., I too was wooed by the friendly and charismatic manager and then disappointed. The food was lackluster at best. I ordered the veggie breakfast burrito with home fries. Both were in need of serious seasoning. I tasted no salt or pepper in anything. The tortilla was cold and not steamed or warmed which gave it a tough texture. To me this is burrito 101. If you've ever been to even a Taco Bell, you would know this to be a crucial step. Why they didn't know this is beyond me. It also came with no salsa and was terribly dry. The food was fresh like the manager promised. So fresh it tasted like it came right out of the ground and was prepared in its completely natural state. Smh ‍ Honestly, I hate McDonald's but sadly their breakfast burrito and hash brown would've won over this hands down. Never again. I also agree with Drew that this place is affront to Brooklyn and every quality eatery therein. This abomination of a breakfast set me back $13. The name is as generic as the fare they offer, but if you're eating here it's not like you really have a choice. You're stuck in this terminal, and as far as airport food goes, you could do a lot worse. I wanted a bacon egg and cheese, and my wife wanted a Greek omelette. So obviously, I can't tell you a thing about the bacon egg and cheese. The Greek omelette had no feta to speak of, but on the bright side it was actually cooked to order by the nice folk who run this place, and I'm happy we got upsold for spinach. Being that the bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll is my favorite New York breakfast of all time... I was pleasantly surprised to see a bodega style deli IN the airport! The owner said the BEC was one of his favorites as well and it's part of the reason he opened this restaurant in the first place. Filling a hole that was needed amongst the Sbarro's and such of the airport world. You can almost attribute the whole "pizza is a lot like sex" idiom with bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches as well. Because even the worst I've had still isn't all that bad. This one tasted just fine (though I'm almost certain they used turkey bacon which isn't my favorite), but at a $7+ price tag, you immediately remember you're not in a real bodega at all. I don't think I've ever paid more than $3.50 for one anywhere in the city, so that elevated figure was a bit shocking. I can only imagine what a headache it must be to run a store or restaurant in an airport, so I'll give them a pass. If you're there during lunch hours, they also have pastrami sandwiches to give you that real Brooklyn feel. I ordered a veggie omelette and there was a huge piece of bacon in it. NOT COOL. I very much dislike bacon, so I was grossed out, and no telling what would've happened if I were a vegetarian! They need to be more careful. Besides that, the omelette was tasteless and definitely not worth $10. My friend got a sandwich and said it was okay. Picked this place to get a bite to eat before our flight. What a waste of money and taste buds. Ordered a Philly Cheese Steak and Gyro and two orders of those Home Fries. The food was horrible, the service was awful and this place was expensive for what you got. The Home Fries were not cooked all the way through on some of them. Don't know if its 5 star worthy, but it was relatively quick and tasty. When you can easily waste $9 bucks on some pre-wrapped junk in other spots this sandwich came out hot and fresh. Good portions on the meat and flavored well. Might get better if had some seating, but hey it's airport turn around and the airports full of them. Very surprised at the negative reviews!! They must be talking about another place. We wanted to get food for our flight to LAX and they had an excellent selection of wraps and salads. In addition, there was a menu that they would make to order. I had the corned beef sandwich on rye with Swiss cheese and it was warm, delicious, tender, and lean. Seriously, it was as good as any quality deli. My daughter had a grilled chicken sandwich with avocado. The person at the checkout counter was very friendly and explained all the different toppings they had. There was a station which had condiments and utensils for you to take. So happy the delí was open at 5:30am when my flight was delayed! Coffee was 2.50, hot and just what I needed. I got an egg and cheese on a bagel as well- $5. Talk about really running a name into the ground. This place should issue an immediate apology to Brooklyn and all its great delicatessens. Though this place does have pastrami (which I can only see as being a bad idea before walking onto a plane) and eggs to order (pretty cool for an airport deli), that's about as 'Brooklyn' as it gets. Our purchase of several pasta salads and sandwiches turned out poorly. The pasta salads were overcooked piles of mush and the lack of meat/flavor/substance in $10 sammies left much to be desired. To boot, the owner?/manager was simply too much. Overly pushy and then rude to people who were checking out the menu. 'It's all fresh!' he loved to say as he up sells you. I'll take not-fresh if it means better quality food. Maybe I missed out on what they do best (those breakfast and pastrami sammies), but I doubt they'd really be any better. Won't be back. read more

Just got a simple egg with sausage on a roll. So easy and simple. I expected a sausage patty, not a few gray sliced up sausage links with their skins peeling thrown on to the roll. Most expensive prison food served in an airport I have ever had. I have never had prison food but it sure did feel like it with the long line at 6am and staff yelling orders at their customers when the food was ready. I don't want to hear Pedro yelling veggie omelet with home fries at 6am at me. I paid almost $20 for a veggie omelet with home fries, a B.E.C sandwich, and 2 coffees. What is warm, soggy and tastes like sadness? Yup you guessed it, its the tears I shed from the travesty for what this place calls good food. Otherwise the sadness that I experienced was their less than stellar french fries. Now you are wondering why I didnt give it 1 star, and that is because this place was clean and I was actually able to finish most of my burger that I ordered. I judge a place by the way they cook their fries. If you are going to put fries on the menu, you need to know how to cook fries. What I received was not in fact french fries, instead I received a stick pile of potatoes that I could have probably turned into mashed potatoes in order to make a better side dish. I mean these things were beyond soggy, they had a taste I cant even describe and I know how to describe just about any food item. Their burger was ok, and to be honest I dont even remember what it tasted like because I think I was using the burger to get the horrible taste of their french fries out of my mouth. Do yourself a favor, get chips when you come here instead....if you come here at all. My suggestion go somewhere else. I was leaving NYC and didn't have time to eat before I got to the airport, so I walked around the terminal to find something to eat. The menu looked somewhat healthy, the reviews were good, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered a veggie omelet and it came with potatoes and toast. They used canned mushrooms, which I am not a fan of. I wasn't impressed and didn't even finish my omelet. The toast was a little over toasted - a bit burnt. I see a lot of negative reviews here, but based on my expectations of airport food, I think this place is a solid 3-star, and I would come back. I ate here at 6am, options were scarce. The staff greets you here which i find rad for airport food. The rueben with Jalapeños was pretty darn good and really large. Fries do not come with the sandwiches but are available. There really isn't anything good to eat in this terminal. This is the best food in this terminal. read more

Sure, the service is a little bit slow and the only place to eat your food is standing up alongside a bar at one side of the restaurant, but did I mention that the food is actually quite good? Conveniently located right in American Airlines terminal, Brooklyn Deli is a great place to grab a thick pastrami or corned beef sandwich in between flights. I was passing through JFK yesterday afternoon and picked up a corned beef on rye to go. Excellent sandwich. Great flavor. Exactly what I was expecting. If you are expecting a sit down restaurant, this isn't your place. On the other hand, if you are looking for something different and better than your average airport fare, Brooklyn Deli is the place to stop. Go anywhere else for airport food. Save yourselves and your money. As a native New Yorker I know bagels - on a layover my wife begged to get a bagel so we stopped at this "deli" to grab breakfast. It was a dreadful mistake. My wife asked if the bagels were authentic NYC bagels- the teller said "of course they are, you're in Ny." What a crock- suspicious, I asked to see what the bagels look like prior to purchasing and was told "no they're in the kitchen". begrudgingly, and hungry I ordered. The rude teller initially overcharged me by 5 dollars telling me 2 bagels with cream cheese and a chocolate milk were 16 dollars and was upset when I asked how it was possibly that much. She then corrected herself that it was 11 dollars - again confused by the price she told me as it seemed high I asked for the breakdown. She bluntly I could get the food or not and the itemized would be on the receipt- fine. She didn't mention that the second cream cheese container was an additional charge- (a rather large additional charge I might add for cream cheese) and it wasn't posted on the menu. Ok- so bagels finally arrive and it was no wonder that I was refused a visual preview. They were AWFUL, seriously probably the worst I've ever had- worse than those prepackaged fake bagels you get at a low end hotel free breakfast. Cardboard tasting and small- the complete opposite of what I grew up with in New York and I would have seen that from a mile away had I been able to see the bagels beforehand. To their credit they were toasted and hot but other than that had no redeeming quality at all. Those bagels and this deli belong in a landfill- don't waste your time and money, there's a dunkin 1 gate down and you'll be better served there. Pretty good considering the total lack of options at this terminal. Ham and cheese burrito was very good. I was happy with so few food choices at this terminal to find a place that cooked food fresh. The staff was almost overly friendly but we had a good breakfast and overall we were happy. Warning though they only have turkey bacon so my wife's bacon egg and cheese was good except for the crappy flavorless bacon. This was better than I expected, but really.. it'd be impressive if this got screwed up. I will note that the mushrooms were definitely canned, although I wasn't too bothered by it. P.Ho got the hungry man's breakfast, which offered eggs, french toast and sausage. He said the french toast was better than the brunch place where we ate in Puerto Rico the day before (hah!) but that really isn't saying much, and the sausages were grossly dried out. As a lover of BBQ Chicken (and women, but that doesn't really apply here), I selected the obvious choice: BBQ Chicken Lover's Panini. Yet love this panini, I did not. It was dry, not heated quite right and the bread was a bit stale. But my gal loved her everything bagel breakfast sandwich and the service was exquisite.
