The last three days, Richard and Ian were in our palace to install our new HVAC system. They arrived each morning on time and ready to work. Richard and Ian were personable and put us at ease while working in our house. They both wore booties while walking throughout our home and made sure that drop cloths were placed everywhere they walked. At the end of the day, they thoroughly cleaned up and left our house better than when they arrived. In addition, it was over a hundred the last few days...making it well over a hundred and forty degrees in the attic. The men never complained and worked through it. We had a very good experience with Brower Mechanical. We had a lot of work done and added Solar. They were here for a week and did a spectacular job. They were always here when they said they would be and did more than they were contracted to do. The Solar and attic upgrades all passed city inspections with flying colors. The Sales Manager, Mark, was wonderful to work with as well as Kay in the finance department. The service technicians were neat and efficient and very pleasant to work with. Mark Ross helped me out when I was buying a home and needed a HVAC unit inspected right away and it was found to be a defective unit. We found out the HVAC was an issue at the last minute from the home inspector and most companies will not look at the HVAC, unless you own the home for some reason. Our furnace stopped working and we setup an appointment with Brower for a service call. The tech was on time and diagnosed that the problem was a bad igniter. It is a simple plug in type item, available for around $25.00. Their service call was $92.00. Several companies apply the service fee towards repair, but not with Brower. The total FAIR cost including their markup for the parts should be $92.0 plus $25.0 (part and another $25.00 (part markup) equals $142. It was more than double, a total of $299.00. I was able to discuss the situation with their service manager, who was sympathetic and reasonable and was able to help. They are competent, but expensive. read more

We've always liked Brower, and have had them in over the past 20 years to do two replacements of HVAC systems (different homes) and replacement of all duct work in our current home. The service personnel, without exception, are competent and customer-friendly when we have had them in to inspect our system once or twice a year. The only reason this a 4 rather than 5 star review is, when we obtained Brower's bid to replace the duct work, we informed the salesman that we have pretty extreme allergy problems, especially with dust and dust-mites. He recommended a UV light, which is inserted into the ductwork very close to the main unit in the attic, explaining that this UV light would cause dust mites to become 'sterile' over time, thereby eliminating or greatly reducing this problem. After the duct/UV install, I did some research and could find nothing to support UV elimination of dust mites. I contacted my cousin in So. Cal., whose husband has been running his own HVAC company for many years, asking her to check with him...he knew about UV, but said he knew of no connection of UV to eradication of these pests. Contacted the salesman a couple of times...no response. In summary, Brower is a great HVAC company, but don't swallow the UV/dust mite assertion if you have your ducts changed or serviced. read more

We had our home comfort system replaced by Brower 10/2013, including having new duct work, installation and venting installed in our attic. The energy audit was fantastic and gave us a thorough understanding of our energy needs. The installation process was great, and it seemed like our $20k investment was indeed a smart one to make with Brower. But, July of 2018 we noticed room temp air coming out of our vents when the AC was running. A service tech came out, and the service arm of their company must not be related to their sales and installation, because the tech began to give us a list of reasons why we were having warmish air, not cold air with the AC running, including incorrect duct work. Really. It was then discovered that we had a freon leak. Funny, after only 4+ years our system was starting to fail. WTH. We had some work done to get us through the summer and we even spoke with the service manager to explain that we had spent so much money with this company and felt that we shouldn't be forking over another $1k for repairs. At the time we opted out of signing up for their service plan, mainly because we couldnt believe that after only 4 years we were facing down some major repairs with the same company who took our money to install the new system! Now here I sit, waiting to hear from the service tech on call, on a Saturday night, which I was told I wouldn't be contacted because I dont have Brower's service agreement, although my unit is still under warranty. I wish we could say that Brower cares about their business, buts its pretty clear they care about making their money and moving on. read more

I had a service inspector out to my parents home yesterday to take a look at their air conditioner and duct work, my dad has dementia and has a hard time understanding everything completely. The gentleman that came out was "Coby"...after completely checking out the system he actually sat down at the table and spoke to my dad and reviewed some photos he had taken, as well as the condition of the duct work etc....Let me tell you!! There are very few people in the world that would provide the compassionate understanding of my dads condition as well as the time and patience it took to be sure he understood everything. I wanted to buy a new AC unit that will work with my old furnace. Brower Mechanical gave ma a great quote for a new Trane unit. Later I got a call that the unit I choose wouldn't work with my furnace, but a less efficient AC unit would. The price was the same. I called Trane and was told that there should not be a problem with the more efficient unit matching my furnace. So I called Brower Mechanical, explained the situation and they sent me another rep. He was very knowledgeable, checked my entire HVAC system, answered all my questions, and verified that the more efficient unit would work. Their installers were friendly, professional and did a great job. Tim went out of his way to upgrade some other parts of my system. They performed extra tests to show how both my AC and my furnace work. And they work great. I am happy with their installation. read more

We hired browerto insulate our attics after installing new roof. We had to go through the placer county Mpower they offered to handle all the work little did I know that instead of me paying roofer direct they made me give them the loan money which I found out through a mistake that they added 10k to roofers bid and kept it all . The insulation guys were great but the first guys getting it cleaned out were not. I would ask any sales guy with them how much they are adding on to any work done with Mpower they added 25% to my job read more

This week our Furnace and Air Condition tear out and replacement job was completed by Brower Mechanical out of Rocklin, performed by Dominic and Garrett. It was the best job ever, done over 3 days. The work was inspected by a third party service, which resulted in exceeding standards in quality, system performance, time to complete, clean work and our experience of the two techs who performed the job. We are very happy with the new system. It's super quiet, more efficient, quickly cools and heats, and is wireless. After suffering through four years of horribly high summer and winter PG&E bills, plus an unbearably hot house whenever the outside temperature exceeded 102 because the AC could not keep up with how fast the house was heating up, we finally decided to do something about it this year. It took us about a month to go from first call to getting the work started, partly because we took some time to decide. We ended up choosing to remove all the old insulation, seal the attic floor, drop our existing ducts to the attic floor so they would be covered by the new insulation, add additional attic ventilation, add an additional return and blow in new insulation throughout. It was quoted and scheduled as a three day job. Wednesday morning a subcontractor showed up to remove the old insulation. Things were going great until around noon, when somehow the hose he was using hit a pipe in the attic and broke it. Luckily I walked into the kitchen and saw the flow before it turned into flooding! And this is where we begin to see how much Brower values their customers. By the end of Wednesday, two guys from Brower had been out to see if they could fix it (leaving behind a small hole in the ceiling drywall) - they could not. A local plumber had also been out to see if he could fix it - he could not but would be back first thing the next day to do so. We did have to go Wednesday night without running water though. I was a bit stressed but figured it would all work out, and the no water thing got me out of cooking that night. Thursday morning, a bit late (the first and only time anyone from Brower arrived later than I was told they would), the crew from Brower showed up to start their work. Soon after that the plumber and his helper also showed up. It was loud here, until early afternoon when the Brower guys ran into issues. They didn't have the right parts on their truck to do what they needed to do that day, and even having someone from the shop bring the parts out would not leave them enough time to do the work. The plumbers had gotten their work all done and we had running water again, so at least there was that. But at this point, after two days of issues, even though I'd been reassured by both the crew and the lady at Brower that it WOULD all get done on Friday before the 100 degree weekend, I was stressed. No need for worry. Two crews showed up on time Friday morning and worked their asses off to get the job done. It got hot on Saturday afternoon and we sat inside laughing! Since then we have had that week plus of 105+ degree high temperatures, and our AC has been able to keep the house cool to 83 even when it was 110 outside. Last year's June PG&E bill was over $300, this year's is less than $250 (including part of that super hot week). I'm actually looking forward to next month's bill just to see the difference. The only thing remaining was the hole in the kitchen ceiling, which took a month to get taken care of - which is fine, because the guy who came out, Jeff Duncan Drywall of Grass Valley, is an artist! The repair looks awesome. In our experience, Brower Mechanical delivers on what they promise, and works hard to keep doing so even when things go to shit on the job! Highly recommended. read more

We have been doing business for several years with Brower Mechanical. They have always done great work. However, today (Thursday) they went above and beyond. The fan stopped working on our HVAC unit on a house we have scheduled for an open house this Saturday. and the tech didn't think they would be able to get it fixed until next week. I called Browner's service department and explained our circumstances. Their associate immediately called their supplier, got the replacement fan and scheduled the repair for 8am Friday morning. BEWARE!!!!! If I could give this company zero stars I would. We had Brower come out and check out our unit that was purchased and installed by Brower in 2012. It was blowing warm air. After installing a new capacitor the unit was still producing warm air. We were told they needed to do a leak detection test where they would put in 6lbs of refrigerant and inject a dye. Then they would come back in 2-3 weeks to see if the coil was leaking via a UV light. The technician said they had been having a lot of these repairs lately and said thats probably what it was. I asked if there would be a charge when he came back and he said no. He came back a few weeks later, went up with a black light and back down 15 minutes later to confirm the coil was in fact leaking. AND we were charged $277 for this service! When I said that he said there wasn't supposed to be a charge per our previous conversation, he said there was no "trip charge". He then took out a brochure with three prices for coil replacements with set prices on them. He told us what the charge was (over $4,000) minus the price of the coil ($401) because it was under warranty. I was very alarmed that it could cost $4,000 to replace a $400 part. There was no break down of charges of parts or labor. When I asked about the break down of charges, the technician said he would have the boss get back to me. A week later I got a call from Paul at Brower. When I asked him about the break down of charges for the coil replacement, he began to explain that there were coil replacements that were easy and took less time and that there were coil replacements that were more difficult that took more time. So to make it easy for their technicians so things were uniform across the board, he decided to make the pricing down the middle at the average coil replacement price. He proceeded to tell me how they needed two technicians for safety reasons and their protocol about having a person for fire watch because they use a torch and so on. He said the average time for replacement was 14.5 hours. I was NOT pleased with that answer. I said, "So if my coil replacement only takes 7 hours I have to pay for 14.5 hours? That's not right! If you were to go to a car mechanic to have a part replaced and they told you the average time to do this was 20 hours and they completed it in 15, would YOU want to pay for 20 hours of labor?" Of course you wouldn't! And there was a "standard charge" for refrigerant which again I said what if I don't need as much as "average"? He refused to give me the hourly labor charge for his technicians and said it depended on the type of work they were doing. He just kept repeating that "they have a standard price for a coil replacement" and that was it. This is absolutely ludacris and unacceptable!!!! You should only be charged for actual labor provided and actual parts used! Please DO NOT do business with Brower unless you want to get ripped off. I got two other bids for the same repair and they were $1500 and $2000 less! read more

Made an appointment 2 or so weeks in advance and was given a 4 hour window for their arrival. It really is kind of annoying that you can't get a tighter window for arrival. Sat around waiting for 4 hours on a Saturday and no one came, no one called. Waste of time. Cannot recommend them. read more

I received 2 bids on replacing my heat/ac combo unit on my home. Brower was higher priced but I went with them because of the good reviews. They also were using a different brand of unit than the other place I received a bid from. I asked them if they could install the other brand of unit that their competitor used and they agreed to do that. They installed the unit and that night we turned it on and it did not go on. It took them 4 visits to fix it. We had no heat for several cold nights and I took off work several days to be here for the service tech. Come to find out their excuse for all the service calls was that they normally don't install the brand I requested(which was a major brand by the way) and that they weren't up on the latest training and service bulletins for it. But they did not tell me that when they agreed to install that brand. It finally was fixed and I called and talked to the person in charge of financial matters and said I was unhappy that I paid more for the installation of the same unit the other place would have installed for less given the fact that I had taken time off work (which is expensive for me since I run my own service business by myself). And would they at least consider matching the price of the competitor that quoted me the same unit and installation for less. I just felt shafted because not only did I pay more for the installation and the heating and air unit itself but I ended up paying even more on top of that when you consider work lost on those days I had to be there for the tech. They declined my request. I then talked to one of the owners and he didn't even apologize for the inconvenience that this had caused me. He said he couldn't match the price of the other company (C & R) . He said he lost too much money paying the techs to come out (to repair a newly installed unit from THEIR company). Well what about my time and money ? He was arrogant and didn't seem to care about my side of it at all. He did offer a free tune up when it was due but why would I want them to come out if he already admitted that they weren't up on servicing this particular brand ? Amazing. Do not and I repeat do not use this company as they, especially Duane, the Vise President will not correct installing the wrong size unit on our house. We went thru the smud program and had Brower do the work as my neighbor had them do his house. Right from the start the unit would not hold temperature and they came back out and replaced the ducting they installed to the family room. We had R30 insulation installed prior to them installing the HVAC as the house had a wall heater and a/c when we bought it. They installed the same unit as my neighbors house however our house is a little over 600 square feet bigger. Duane recently came out and looked inside the attic and stated that the ducting that his company installed hanging by straps throughout the attic should be un strapped and laying on the ceiling joices and then to have the attic insulation blown in over the ducting the help insulate the ducting. Makes since, he then sent out one of his Service people Jason to service the unit. Well the main reason I called is when it's 105 outside its 84 inside the house and the family room is even warmer. There was a crew remodeling the home next door and I talked to the HVAC company to look at our unit and he told me that unit was too small to properly control the climate in our home. I contacted a friend who owns an HVAC company and he stated the same thing. So the day Browers service man showed up serviced the unit and on the paper work he wrote out "Unit is not adequate in size to properly control the temperature of the home and the wrong size unit was installed". This is one of Browers own employees telling me the wrong unit was installed. Now after going back and forth with Duane for the past few month he refuses to correct the problem. He has even stated that the cable company messed up the insulation in the attic when all the cables run under the house as it is a raised floor home. He told me I need to fix the insulation problem and he'll see what he could do. I told him to replace the unit with the proper size and I will address the insulation. Not only will he not acknowledge that his company installed the wrong size unit even though his own service man wrote it on the receipt he absolutely refuses to admit they made a mistake or correct it. I told him to just replace to the unit and I will do the rest. My friend who owns his own HVAC company stated that a replacement unit wholesale is a mere 600 dollars and the price of the crane to reset the unit and with the volume of units they do would be less than 150 dollars or so. Yet Duane absolutely refuses to correct the problem as I am assuming he has no loyalty to his customers or pride in his company. When I suggested this he actually laughed at me over the phone so loud that my wife could hear him 5 feet away from the phone. What an insult. How much would that actually cut into your bottom line Duane ? You know more business is done by word of mouth as he did my neighbors home and he was recommended by my neighbor but I guess he's to big of a company now to have to worry about keeping his customers satisfied. I will be going to SMUD next with my complaints and detailed emails from him and my records of his lack of following up with phone calls and such and see what they think. I will never recommend his company to anyone ever again unless he "Mans" up and corrects the mistake. He knows it was made, his service man knows it was made and so do I but he obviously has no ethics to stand by his company's work to correct the problem. I guess those days are gone. read more

Brower did an energy audit on my home, sponsored by SMUD & PG&E. The day of, two guys showed up: 1 technician and 1 representative. The rep was explaining to me what was going on, and what the energy audit/rebate program offered. the rep returned about a week later to explain the results of the audit. It was a lengthy report, but very thorough. Being in the building design & construction industry myself, I was impressed with how much information was provided on my home. I set up an appointment for the work to be completed, and was told it should take about 2 days. Half way through the second day, we noticed two huge cracks in our ceiling, right where they had been doing work in the attic. As soon as we pointed it out, the techs stopped working and called the office to let them know what happened. They said I'd get a call alter that day to schedule an appointment for drywall repair. Never got the call. I called 3 days later (on Monday), and after attempting to navigate their complicated phone system, they said someone would call me later that day to schedule the repair. The drywall guy didnt come out until that Friday. And instead of replacing the cracked ceiling, he just taped it back into place and plastered over it. So that was a little frustrating. But the service by Brower was great. read more

I received an AC service from the government rebate program and called Brower, having done an earlier AC service by Bell Brothers. Brower rep wrote down a laundry list of itemes that needed repairs totaling $1K and future repairs of over $1K. However, some items said to be problem areas were checked fine or were already cleaned by Bell Brothers , such as the coil but was marked as "Very Dirty" by Brower rep and estimated to cost $358 to clean. read more

Be careful when dealing with Brower. I attempted to schedule AC maintenance on my two condensers. Roseville has a $75.00 rebate for AC maintenance available. The normal price quoted to service these two units by Brower was $186, so my out of pocket after the two rebates should have been $36.00. However, since there is a rebate available, they wanted me to pay over $200 for the service -- they up-charged their service simply because of the rebate!!! This REALLY seems unscrupulous to me. read more

Wow. Great experience. From the time Mitch came through our door, we could tell he knew what he was doing. Had 2 other companies come out and bid on complete hvac replacement before he arrived and his higher level of experience and knowledge was obvious. He helped guide us through or decision to remain with electric or convert to gas and helped get us financed through smud program. As the weather was already geting hot when our unit failed, Mitch brought us a portable a/c unit that kept us cool upstairs at night so we could sleep. The professionalism did not stop there. The installers were above and beyond in their attention to detail whether is was laying tarps along floor path to keep clean, or just being polite and courteous. I would highly recommend this company for your heating and air conditioning needs. Sitting in my living room as i write this and supposed to be another 100*+ day, and I am nice and cool. Had furnace/ac installed 8/12. Another contractor offered a inspection review of our system which they did. They discovered a duct completely disconnected and the set up of the ac was not done correctly. After a number of. After a number of calls to Brower and them saying nothing could be wrong they came out and admitted that the duct had not been reconnected. They finally took care of the problems, but with reluctance. I used them initially because of their reputation, but now suggest anyone get multiple quotes, and not necessarily from Brower. read more

Brower Mechanical installed my HVAC system few weeks ago. It was a change out as the old one had died. I had received one bid already from another contractor. I am so glad I picked Brower Mechanical. They are a top shelf outfit! Every one I came in contact with was just great. They did not rush through the job and were extremely meticulous and thorough in everything they did. They followed through with the inspections and the PG and E rebate process well after I had paid them in full. Most of all I did not get a hard sell from them even once. Bell Brothers was big on the maintenance contract which is a little deceptive unless you read the fine print. In addition their quote was way higher than Brower. Stick with these guys. You wont' be disappointed. By the way, they never tried to sell me a maintenance contract even though I indicated I was interested. I will have to call them in 6 months and schedule my first service. read more

I have been using Brower since I moved into my house about 10 years ago and they are the absolute BEST! They lowered my air ducts, covered them with insulation, air sealed my home and showed me how to claim both energy rebates and IRS rebates. We signed up for a Home Performance Program through SMUD and selected these guys as our contractor, based on a referral from someone at my wife's work. I wish that I could happily recommend this contractor also, BUT Brower Mechanical has earned two thumbs down from me at this point. Dave did a great job of working up our estimate and facilitating the energy audit process - He even clued us in on some savings we might have missed. We had Brower remove all insulation from the attic, airseal the attic, replace the entire HVAC and water heater, and so on. Unfortunately, while most of their critical work I believe was solid and on par with most contractors, they dropped something through our ceiling and made a huge hole in the livingroom, and then did a poor job repairing the drywall until the THIRD try at my insistence. Truth is that I can still see the repair - I'm over it. They also got hit on the County final inspection with some super sloppy "plumbing" on the furnace install and a problem with the water heater install (not properly secured to the wall, so that it easily wiggled with some force.) THEN they came back to fix the items and STILL did shoddy work on the water heater (securing it to the wall "per code," but using these crummy 2X4's wedged in like I found someone at the bus stop and paid them $50 to do the job.) This is NOT what you expect when a company charges you $1000 to install a hybrid water heater. They are coming back next week to try a 3rd time on that as well, again - per my insistence. I drew up a design ( I know - crazy, right?) for properly stabilizing the water heater, and they will hopefully get it right this time. They have thus far willingly fixed everything that needed fixing - This is true. Want to save yourself some hassle? I would probably just say go with someone else, and don't rely on just one referral. We did look them up here on Yelp and have been surprised that we didn't get 4-5 Star work like others have. read more

Dan Horstkotte of Brower Mechanical is an outstanding technician. I am very impressed with his expertise, professional attitude and congenial demeanor. On April 14, 2016 per my request for an assessment and safety inspection of the HVAC system in both the main and guest house here, Mr. Horstkotte performed an efficient and thorough inspection of each system and provided me with a detailed explanation of the results. It was determined that the system in the guest house did need some repair so I made a subsequent appointment to have him do that work. Again, Mr. Horstkotte was thorough in all he did. I really appreciate that he was able to take before and after photos of the repair work for my files and explain for my understanding, exactly what was done. Because of his good work, I decided to sign up for the bi-annual inspections of both HVAC systems. As per the contract, M. Horstkotte returned in October 2016 and again performed a thorough and detailed inspection. Brower Mechanical is very fortunate to have Dan Horstkotte on its Staff because he is completely competent, trustworthy and responsible. I called Brower Mechanical on the advice of a friend when my heater stopped working. They were able to schedule an appointment for me the same day, and the technician, as promised, called 30 minutes before his arrival and arrived promptly, within that 30 minute time frame. The technician, Jared, was friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough. He spent about an hour diagnosing the problem, which was actually several problems; he checked every possible thing that could be malfunctioning before arriving at the final diagnosis. Once he had diagnosed the problems, Jared explained them to me clearly and in detail -- in layman's terms, but not in a way that seemed like he was "dumbing it down" for me. The repairs weren't cheap (though not much more than I expected), and I inquired as to how much a new furnace would set me back. Jared admitted that he couldn't quote me a price -- that he's not a salesman, he's a technician. This was one of the most refreshing things I've EVER heard when I've gotten service from a company. The technicians should be technicians, NOT salesmen, but nowadays it seems that everyone is trying to sell you something! Jared indicated he could contact a salesman to come out and speak with me about pricing a new furnace. He also discussed the option of a protection plan that offered a number of benefits if I chose to just do the repairs. I decided to go with the repairs and the protection plan, which got me 15% off the repairs AND no charge for the diagnosis. Jared said the parts were in stock and that he could come back to do the repairs the next day; the dispatcher was off work, but he indicated she would call me back the next morning to confirm my appointment. The next morning, as promised, the dispatcher called and said Jared would be back out to do the repairs, and she gave me a three-hour window in which to expect him and indicated he would call about 30 minutes before arrival. He did, and he even arrived slightly BEFORE the beginning of the three-hour window. The repairs took about an hour, and the furnace was working like a charm when he was finished. I am really impressed with Brower Mechanical; I've heard (and read on here) some horror stories about other Heating and Air companies -- especially some of the big names here in Sac -- and I was nervous about getting my furnace repaired, but Brower, and Jared, made it a painless process. We had Brower Mechanical out today to do a maintenance on our air conditioner. Cameron did an excellent job. He was very friendly, very informative and wore booties over his shoes. His inspection of our unit was very thorough. We signed up for a Maintenance Agreement which is going to be well worth the money. read more

While the employees of Brower Mechanical are very polite, they have been out to our home 5 times in the last year and have just been called out for a 6th. We currently rent, so it's up to the property management to choose the HVAC company, otherwise we would have gone elsewhere. Our AC unit has had recurring leak, stopped working, the fan has come loose three times (the third was two days after Brower came to repair it), and currently our heater isn't working. I understand the Property Management company is partially responsible, but this is ridiculous. I won't be recommending Brower to anyone. read more

I purchased home in Granite Bay about a year ago and it had a fairly new high-end Lennox HVAC system. I recently contacted Brower Mechanical to have a service/tune-up on it. The receptionist was polite and explained that the combo price to have both AC/Heater serviced was $187. I had to wait almost a month for my appointment. We were given a window of 12-4 PM on a Friday. The serviceman showed up about 5:15 PM ( he called about 4 PM to say he would be late). The service man appeared to be only marginally experienced and had a less than pleasant attitude. He examined the units and told me that they seemed to perform well beyond normal capacity. He then said that the heater had some dust in it and the AC coil was dirty and needed to be cleaned. I continued working on my home and about 20 minutes later he said he was done with his work. I asked if he had finished servicing the units so that I could pay for his service. He then explained that he had only EXAMINED the equipment and if we wanted to have it tuned up/serviced, we would have to purchase one of three service contracts costing hundreds of dollars. I said: "What, I called you guys out to service/tune-up the equipment, not only to EXAMINE IT". I then explained that I was going to call the company to explain my grave mis-satisfaction. The company sent out another service representative seven days later and that gentleman cleaned the AC unit. I will NOT RECOMMEND BROWER MECH or use this company again. read more
