I usually come to this coffee house to get my refills of Whalebird kombucha which makes it real convenient since it's in town. I love Whalebird! Today on a Sunday about 1:15 pm, I decided to treat myself to a sandwich. I chose the avocado turkey on Ciabatta. Cute place! We stopped by here to meet our photographer for our wedding who lives in San Luis Obispo on our way down to LA. They have tons of seating inside and a nice outdoor area. It has very homey, laid back vibe. They have a few sandwich options for lunch. I got the turkey sandwich with avocado and my fiancé got the BLT - the bacon was super crispy ooo! Mine was tasty too. I got the regular kombucha (they also have jasmine kombucha too, but they were out when I tried to order it). My fiancé got an iced mocha and unfortunately for me when the server brought it out to us, she accidentally squeezed the cup too hard and it spilt onto my dress :( - hey, stuff happens! She was super apologetic. She got a rag to help clean it off and gave me a token to get a free coffee, which I got a cold brew for the road. Their cold brew wasn't the best, but not bad. Fantastic neighborhood coffeehouse! We visited this place on Sunday before heading out for the day. We'd been meaning to try it since we moved to Atascadero but kept forgetting about it. The vibe reminded me so much of the little neighborhood coffeehouses in San Francisco - 100% the opposite of that other major coffee place found on every street corner. I loved it. The coffee was fantastic, the latte my husband had was so good he didn't even add sugar (for him, that's a miracle), and we both loved our croissant sandwiches, too. Good espresso. They were quick and it's pretty close to the 101, so if you're traveling and need a quick cup I recommend this place.

While working on my Master's degree, I camped out several times to finish up papers. The staff is always friendly and the coffee drinks delicious. I also tried out the quiche and found it fluffy, tasty and fulfilling (even without a crust). They have definitely stepped it up in the food department as every food item I've seen looks amazing. I've been to Bru twice now. Both times I had very different issues with the experience, the first taking a very long time with my food, and the second getting the wrong items and some items we didn't even receive at all. I had written a fairly extensive review about the experiences previously, including the fact that I was made late to work from waiting 20+ minutes. After telling of these experiences, the owner personally reached out to me and spoke about how the experience could have been better. She fully acknowledged that the issues I was having were very concerning. She explained that they have some new staff still training, and that they are in the process of a customer service re-vamp from the previous experiences. She refunded me for the items I never received, and even walked the missing items over later on to make up for it. She seemed extremely sincere, and I would much rather see a business owner who KNOWS they have things to work on, rather than one that simply doesn't care. I'll be giving Bru another chance, hopefully their service lives up to the quality of the food and drinks, because it has been delicious every time. If I'm able to have a great experience, I'd love to change my review to a 5-star, I just have to see the improvements in action! read more

On a road trip this was the first time I ever passed through the town of Atascadero, and I believe I stumbled upon the best possible spot for a one-hour breather. Menu board features plenty of eclectic coffees and frappes, all hitting the right ground rich notes. But it's the lounge-around space with games and nick-knacks that makes for a gleeful stop, and another nice relief is the back patio which is quite the cool-off sun umbrella zone. I've been coming to Bru since it opened 4 years ago... The servers were top notch and friendly and if they didnt know how to make something they would google it with you! Today... We've had it and are sharing the worst it's ever been in terms of food and service; it's staggeringly declined over the last year. We used to go the Bru every weekend for breakfast: Huge bowls of Turkish-style yogurt, fluffy scrambled eggs and bacon, hand-made burritos, hand-made breakfast sandwiches, unusual coffee roasts, etc. Today, we found out the only thing on the menu is burritos (frozen, Costco-style) and a small selection of pastries to go with coffee. We noticed the menu on the wall had been cut in half and the food menu only had three items. We were shocked... But ordered a bacon burrito, veggie burrito and two large mochas. There were only 4 other people in Bru at the time. We sat out back in the garden area, so didn't hear the cashier call our order was ready. After 15 minutes I went in to check on the food. The cashier pointed to the counter and said "you must not have heard me call your order." I said I was out back and in the past our food was always brought to us. All he said was "it's probably still warm" and went back to doing what he was doing. It's mother's day... We chose to go to Bru to celebrate. We ordered mochas and burritos and the mocha tasted like Hershey's syrup. The burritos we cold and pre-frozen. What a disappointment and a waste! We used to LOVE this coffee shop for the yummy mochas and awesome food menu and the fact you get to sit in a flower garden area to enjoy them. I will NOT be recommending this place to friends anymore!!! Atascadero has a huge shortage of quality places to go eat, relax, shop, etc. This experience today underscores the reasons why people spend their money in other cities on the weekends. Whatever happened to Bru over the last year casts poorly on the decision making of Management and the Owner. Bring back the quality menu and customer service, Bru! We stayed in Atascadero and Bru Coffeehouse was recommended to us by our host. The staff is amazing. You are greeted with warm smiles. The place is very unique with an option of indoor and outdoor setting. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. It's quite so if you need to do some work great place to have coffee and get things done. The barista was making a new drink and was generous to give us a large sample of her : coconut and almond coffee, which is delicious! I really like their pour over coffee from Stumptown! We were in the neighborhood and this was the closest good coffee shop available according to our Yelp app. I need good coffee am, and since we were staying at a motel for the weekend, we were not making our own brew at home. Nice service here. We did not have to wait in line long, and quickly ordered two coffees and two burritos, since this ended up being our breakfast stop also. This was actually our second visit, we tried their coffe out the morning before also, so it was our choice for this morning also. The burritos were okay to good. I really was very hungry and enjoyed my potato and egg burrito. It had some spice to it also. My wife did not say much about hers, not bad I guess, but the salsa sauce to pour onto it was very fresh and flavorful. The atmosphere was casual, friendly and relaxed. This is a nice coffeehouse to wake up in, and just enjoy a really good large cup of fresh hot wonderful coffee! The price was fair also. Not complaints. We would go back. read more

I consider myself somewhat of a coffee snob. I work all over California and typically pick up fancy coffee beans while in LA, San DIego, the bay Area, or Sacramento to enjoy with my beautiful wife. When I found out what kind of beans Bru carried I flipped out. I made Stumptown a must visit while i was in Seattle last summer and have ordered their beans online. They are the best., I was VERY STOKED to find a powerful coffee shop in my hometown. I'd like to say farewell to the other coffee shops in Paso, Templeton and Atascadero that I used to frequent. I enjoy going into BRU especially when I see Elliott ( my favorite barista because of his twisted, sometimes morbid, dark & dry sense of humor) he always makes me feel welcomed. I only come to Atascadero once a month and stay at The Carlton it's only in the afternoons when I see him. Elliott makes my latte and cappuccino the way I enjoy drinking it, the fullness, bold and rich taste, he knows coffee. I've been there in the mornings and it seems like the employees not as energetic in the mornings like Elliott in the afternoons. The pastries are okay I'm not a huge fan of sweets, I've tried their sandwiches it's hit or miss depending who's working the kitchen. This is my favorite coffee house in Atascadero. My go to order is a hazelnut iced latte made with MACADAMIA MILK!! have you heard of such a wonderful thing? I've only ordered the Lates and have enjoyed each one. The people working here are very friendly. I've enjoyed their pastries and appreciate that they have a gluten free option for my boyfriend. We were looking for a good cup of coffee during our trip through this area and VERY happy to find Bru Coffeehouse today. We consider ourselves coffee snobs and this place measured up very well given the location. The beans from Stumphouse seem very high quality and they have a great espresso machine. The baristas were extremely friendly. My wife ordered an extra-hot soy mocha and the barista was careful to make sure the tempertaure was going to be just-right for her - she made a noble attempt at soy latte art on top of the mocha. It was a super-tasty! I had a cappucino and it was WAY too foamy on top (different barista than my wife), but below all the froth, the coffee was plenty yummy. They have a very nice space here too. A big open area to enjoy your coffee, a short bar at the window, some patio tables (too hot outside!) and even a private little quiet more study-type area. Live music corner too! They have beer on tap, which must be a nice bonus for business in the evenings. Whenever we are back in the area, we will come back. They are working hard, care about their product, and deserve the business. read more

Simply the best tasting Espresso we have had. Each shot is hand crafted, and we have NEVER had a bitter, or acidic shot. I get 4 shots in a lg. Soy Latte, and it always has that coveted marshmallow taste that seems nearly impossible to get at other places. We go early days, and BRU is always clean with friendly and talkative staff. Nice place! It has seating outside in front, inside with air condition and in the back patio! It also has a small room with two tables if you want some alone time work done. They offer coffee menu, but also all different kinds of drinks! We had a fruit smoothie, its was very natural with fresh fruits and no added sugar! It was delicious. They have enough room for big study groups and sofas if you want yo get a little more comfortable. The free wifi works fine, it was very easy to access it and work with it. The place is also very VERY clean, the bathroom is very nice and the tables and floor are very clean also. The staff was very nice and they gave us our beverages rather fast. The music is nice also! Planning on ditching Starbucks and coming here more often! read more

OK, I am writing this review for the owners/manager ... Bru, I have loved you, but please replace your french presses. I know a pour over is "fancier" and more on-trend, but a french press is something that can be shared and enjoyed over time with another person--a little coffee moment, if you will--and a pour over in a cup, well, isn't. And while I understand things break, you apparently had two! Did they break simultaneously? Do you just not want to do french press coffee anymore? Also, I totally get what Jeb's review is saying about nice employees who are totally not apologetic about broken things/missing things... If I ask for something, at least try to make it up for me. When you don't, it ruins the experience. I grind and brew Stumptown at home, I go to Bru for the experience. read more

Bru is an excellent place to go and hang out while enjoying excellent espresso based drinks, pour over coffe, or traditional bru. By far, the best coffee house in North SLO County... when considering the artisan coffee, the atmosphere, and the friendly staff. You will not be disappointed. I enjoy the espresso and double macchiatto; my kids love the hot chocolate; and my wife enjoys Raspberry Hot Chocolate. The baked goods are excellent as well. If you're hungry for breakfast, i recommend the breakfast bagel sandwich... delicious! If you show up on a Saturday or Sunday, I just might run into you there. Bru has great coffee and a nice atmosphere. The staff is friendly and seem pretty knowledgeable about the different blends. We enjoy going to Bru for their french press, however, food is just okay. We have not been there at night for music for a while, but remember it being a chill spot. A little bit of a hipster vibe, but not overwhelming. I would say it is a comfortable spot for all.
