Updating this review: I recently had Brunello again as I had visitors in town. Like many others have noted, there's been an ownership change. The pastas we ordered were still pretty delicious, and the decorations were still largely the same. But the price for each bowl of pasta has gone up by at least $10 since the ownership change, tipping it to the pricier end of pastas in Seattle. Service also just seemed different -- our server was quite terse (didn't explain about happy hour, or the menu), they no longer have that amazing chili oil, and I'm just a little bummed with the changes that came to this neighborhood family spot. read more

I am honestly shocked at the high ratings at this place. Then again, the Seattle food scene is severely lacking in European food altogether. We went here for Valentine's Day, got the Gorgonzola pasta and then a salmon plate. First, the bread came out. It wasn't toasted at all, was bleached white and honestly tasted like a low quality loaf. None of the caramelized chewy crust with fluffy aerated interior. The pasta was pretty good, incredibly heavy so I only had a few bites. The salmon and its sides (steamed veggies and rice) looked like it came straight out of the Sysco truck. This is a super cute and cozy Italian restaurant nestled in a neighborhood. I walk by this place all the time and finally decided to try it! We got the linguini vongole, Caesar salad, and rigatoni con saliccia. Overall, the food was just okay. From the looks of it, I would've thought that it was a pretty authentic Italian restaurant but that was not the case when I tried the food. The Caesar salad tasted like one you could get from a bag and on a good Caesar salad I would expect some freshly grated Parmesan but it was topped with the Parmesan cheese that you get to put on top of pizza. The pasta's were good but nothing special again. They were rather dry. This was a letdown, especially because the ambiance and service was so good! I ordered the chicken parmesan, and while it looked promising, it was drowned in sauce and lacked the flavor you'd expect at that price point. My friends both had the penne vodka from the happy hour menu, which tasted oddly burnt and left a strange aftertaste. Not exactly the comforting Italian meal we had in mind. Came here for Valentine's day and they had a special menu for the occasion which sounded sweet. Problem was I kind of messed up a bit because the first course was a shareable course and accidentally told the waiter we would be sharing all the courses so it would be one order of their 3 course special. Whoops! The restaurant shoots for an Italian vineyard or winery sort of atmosphere towards the place. Very much something you would want if you're going for a cultured experience that doesn't hit the stereotypes like maybe Spaghetti Factory does. The tables and service also gives off a very classy and formal vibe a bit. So I would recommend dressing up for the place a little so you'd fit in. Service was good coming in with the wine bottle, opening, and pouring for us and also allowing us to taste the wine first to make sure it was to our liking. I rarely ever see restaurants do that nowadays, so I appreciate that a lot even though 95% of the time I'm not going to turn the bottle away after taste testing. When the main course came out, we were given separate smaller plates since I said we were sharing cause I'm dumb. T_T The steak was done well and we had a delicious dinner. Sharing the meal was a bit cute for the occasion to be honest. So it went well in my opinion. Just was a bit hungry still afterwards because we each at half a 3 course meal. It was too late to correct things by the time I've realized what I've done. Oh well. Food was still good and we had a pleasant time. Definitely a cozy neighborhood spot. I came solo on a Friday night and it was rather empty. I sat at the bar. I got nervous after reading some recent reviews but the place was great. I am deducting 1 star for lack of bar options. There are a few vodkas, 2 whiskeys and a few amaros - I feel like the bar program could be much more built out. I got the penne alla vodka sub rigatoni. Ive lived near by this place for 2 years and have always driven by but decided to try it for the hoots. It looked pretty authentic and I studied abroad in Italy too so I was like let's see how it goes. I made a reservation but when I walked in it seemed like I didn't need one it wasn't too busy. Ordered the carbonara and the ragu and lemme just say it was honestly the best pasta I've ever had. You can tell the pasta was soo soo fresh I wouldn't doubt they had some guy growing wheat and making the pasta right there as I ordered it. The carbonara was creamy rich and with a nice touch of adding chicken while the ragu was bold and meaty just the way I like it (pause). I do wish it had some more larger chunks of meat to bite on tho instead of it being like a meat sauce. Just my opinion tho next time I might add a meatball or something. Desserts were good, I wish it had a little more structure to it as it was kinda flat but it tasted great. Service was good, I do wish it had complimentary great tho. Another thing tho is after my meal I wasn't full and I definitely wanted more food. This is the kinda place where you go for the flavour rather than to get full unless you order more. Not happy with this place. It is definitely presented as fine dining, and really seems like it would be from the outside, but sadly the food is not worth the price to me. The service could've been better and there are no prices on the menu. Looks like other reviewers were impressed with the gnocchi, which I should've gotten. My dish was good, but I expected a little more flavor. The sauce was quite bland. My real issue was that when I was dining (just me and my spouse, I wanted a nice atmosphere)-- a woman had brought her dog in and was feeding it on the table. Mind you, I have a dog myself but wouldn't think to bring him to really any dining establishment , especially on a Saturday night. My boyfriend and I wanted to celebrate an early Valentine's Day dinner as he had an online class on the night of. We found this restaurant nearby and decided to check it out! And it was a good thing we went the night before Valentine's Day as the day of had a set menu and about 160 reservations (according to Tim). It's located in the neighborhood area, away from all the busyness close to Safeway on Roosevelt Way NE in Roosevelt. There seemed to be very limited parking spaces for customers but mainly street parking. Parking doesn't seem to be too difficult as there are a lot of neighborhood parking spaces around. After getting seated, my boyfriend and I got complimentary bread with olive oil and vinegar. Vinegar with bread? MMM. Delicious combo. But the first piece of bread I got was rock hard. LOL. I thought it was just my weak teeth but nope. It was rock hard SAD. The other pieces weren't, thankfully. My boyfriend and I shared the Burrata con Prosciutto. The fior di latte cheese was huge! I was so excited to pop it, expecting it to be gooey in the middle, but I was disappointed with a nice cut LOL. The dish was delicious! Loved the combination of the "bland" cheese and the saltiness of the prosciutto. The peas were kind of interesting... Didn't really care for it on the dish, honestly. I actually wished the appetizer had some salad to eat with. And maybe some balsamic vinegar. That would have made it extra tasty in my opinion. For my main course, I got the Linguine Vongole. I was kind of stumped between that one and the Farfalle Al Salmone. But my boyfriend decided to get the latter. Yay! Best of both worlds hehe. The Linguine Vongole was REALLY good. There was a lot of clams which I loved! The entire dish had a really nice balance of saltiness and spiciness. It wasn't too heavy either. I thought my dish was really good until I tried the Farfalle Al Salmone. WOW. This was amazing! The amount of creaminess with the salmon was perfect! I thought the salmon was a little smoked, giving the dish an extra flavor that I did not expect. Definitely a favorite! We also ordered a red wine, Valpolicella Ripasso, "Mara", Cesari, and it was delicious! It fit my palate so well that my boyfriend was willing to stop drinking to let me finish the rest at home. I also found out that we were able to take the bottle home! Say whaaat? I didn't know some states allowed that as Hawaii definitely doesn't. On top of the food, the service here was spectacular! Our server, Tim, was very personable. He was very personable to all the tables he served, actually. He mentioned he was one of the co-founders of the restaurant and instead of staying in the back and allowing workers to do the hard work, he loved to serve and build a relationship with the customers. Definitely great customer service! My boyfriend and I both really enjoyed our dinner here! The food was delicious and the service was great! Went here with my family, super cozy Italian Place. Got the filet mignon with spaghetti aglio e olio, spaghetti bolognese, salmon risotto, bruschetta, and ravioli aurora. Good service, super accommodating, gave infinite bread, and had solid wine recommendations too. Bruschetta was a good starter, super fresh with plenty of olive oil and garlic. All the pasta was perfectly al dente, even the ravioli had a nice chew to it. Filet Mignon was a bit rare but the black pepper sauce was packed with umami, and the spaghetti had a perfectly toasty garlic flavor without seeming burnt. The bolognese was incredibly meaty and rich, did not skimp out on any ground beef. Salmon was a special for the day, but it was fatty, fresh, perfectly cooked, probably the best salmon I've had in a while. Solid risotto as well. Loved the ambiance, dim, cozy lights with Sinatra softly playing in the background so you could eat in peace. Last time I visited was back in 2016, but spontaneously revisited back on 10/30/20 during the Seattle Restaurant Week campaign. This was a substitution for another reservation elsewhere, but when you just became unemployed earlier in the week, you need comfort food. New ownership and clearly a well established neighborhood favorite during the pandemic.
